Customer Reviews:

  • The best bread cookbook ever!!
I love this cookbook! I have bought it for friends and my son, who turned me on to it via an article from somewhere. I have tried so many recipes and they have all received approval from those I experimented on. I have to say of all of the cookbooks I own and have owned this is one is at the top of my list. I have a "earth momma" friend who spent years kneading bread that I bought this cookbook for her after she borrowed it and loved it. If you like fresh artisan bread this is the cookbook for you. How can something so simple be so fanastic? :) Bon appettit!...more info
  • Artisan Bread
Really enjoy this book; it's important to read carefully, as the process is not the same as traditional bread making, but nothing smells as good as fresh bread baking alomost daily....more info
  • I really wanted to like it....
First, make sure that you check their website for errors - as there are a few that are significant.

Second, I am not a typical baker. I grind my own flours and grains. As such, I can only speak to the wheat and whole grain recipes. They are not great. I would much rather put in the 20 minutes to make a great quality loaf, than "five" (which is not entirely accurate) for a ok loaf.

Third, the bread you make on the first day is not the same as the four day bread. For the whole wheat recipes the book states that you can use the dough for five days. The first day bread was almost good. The third day bread was bordering on barely eatable. The book states that it would have sourdough qualities - that is the understatement of the week! It was more like SOURdough - way too sour for the average palate or sandwich. By early in the fourth day, there was a significant amount of separation of liquid from the dough. At this point, it was unusable. Thus, the wheat recipes are three day (at most) recipes, not five as stated in the book.

Pass on this one. If you want the jest of the book there is an interesting article on the Mother Earth News website that one of the authors of this book wrote. That article covers what you need to know and will save you the cost of the book. ...more info

  • Makes me look like a bread making genius
I heard about this book from a newspaper article. I started making bread and everyone just raves about it. I probably shouldn't tell people how little time I spend on the whole process, but I am trying to convert people! Why pay $3 or more for a loaf of French bread in the store when you can make great bread for roughly 50 cents a loaf. It truly is revolutionary!...more info
  • best cookbook in my kitchen
My first batch of bread turned out great and they only got better from there. Once you have made the basic recipe you can begin to play around with it and make alterations to the recipes to suit your tastes. However, if you are the type that likes to follow recipes to the letter you can still get really good results....more info
  • Excellent book in the opinion of this cook book cynic
To be honest I love the concept of a good cook book but have enjoyed very few. Though I love cooking, I'm a pragmatist at heart and I don't tolerate books that want me to recreate the kitchen of some culinary school, drive two hours to get my ingredients or sit there while the author wants me to be tutored by their personal spiritual philosophies.

This book simply points out how to make great bread with a modest amount of time and effort. Before learning this methodology I probably made four loaves a month. Now I bake two a day and it's far better than my other bread....more info

  • Excellent book
This book is a great for us. My husband has made several different recipes since receiving it. They all turned out perfect and were as simple as described. It has revolutionized our home baking. We make bread every other day now and is much easier than my old version using a biga. We've made onion bread, olive bread, brioche and the master bread.
    On to the next type.
Thanks so much for such a great book.

  • I bake a lot of bread and I really like this book
I do a lot of baking including many different traditional bread recipes. I've tried the no-knead bread a few times, but I was nervous dealing with the super hot pan, and I have a hard time planning that far in advance! So this book is a joy. The bread is really tasty with a nice crispy crust. I can make it on a weekend and then make individual loaves while I'm doing dinner. I've done the peasant, rye, whole wheat and standard....more info

I saw the book in a store and knew I wanted it.So I went to amazon determined to buy. Started baking bread via their method from a magazine article. Bake and eat everyday even my son who eats nothing loves this bread. I like to cook and baked at one time for a brief career period. This makes it easy, fun and tasty. I HIGHLY recommend this book. • Bread-Making is a BLAST!
Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking This book has been such a fun source of doing something that I have not done in a long time: bread making. The product is SO easy, delicious and everything the authors say it is. There is NO kneading or old-fashioned proofing. I love this book! ...more info
  • Great Bread, don't give up
This book was recommended by a friend who made some great bread and raved about it. Living in Holland, some of the flours aren't available, so I'm having some folks bring it with them from the states, like 'rye' flour. My first attempt was decent, although I was expecting a perfect loaf the first time out. But the book itself is really helpful, and with a few tricks, it gets better. Well written and easy to follow. Looking forward to many more fresh loaves of bread, great stuff....more info

  • Yes, its really as easy and tasty as it looks!
I love, love, love this book! Follow directions and you'll soon have lovely delicious bread, just as promised. Works best on a pizza stone, but I've also had success in my loaf pan. Definitely buy a nice sized dough bucket and a bottle (not packets) of yeast before you start. I bake so much that now I need a bigger container for the bulk flour I buy. SO WORTH IT!...more info
  • Goood Bread!
This book shows you how to have fresh, crusty bread in almost no time and extremely little effort every day! The directions are very clear, and you need to invest very little in new equipment if you are already a bread baker. The real beauty is that there is virtually no kneading of the bread at all! (Of course, if you are using that excercize to take out your aggressions, you will have defeated your purpose.) There are pictures of finished product and of the how-tos, as well. If you are not an accomplished bread baker, you will be able to turn out some pretty professional looking loaves that also taste good. I think this book would be good to give new brides... ...more info
  • The best bread book so far
I have been backing since I was 12. While I rarely use the recipe without modifying, this book is so straightforward and easy to use, I haven't had to play with the recipe yet. Love the Oatmeal bread for kids sandwiches and just made a brioche that came out PERFECT! Brioche had been a challenge for me and this time it was out of this world! Love this book! I work full time so it doesn't leave time for serious backing and this method of refrigerating dough works perfect for me!...more info

  • I can't believe I made this bread!
I heard about this book on Twitter and I thought, "Yeah, right! Make bread in 5 minutes...I don't think so." But the more I read about the process, the more intrigued I became. So,I ordered the book! I got it a few days later and read through the beginning. I had most of the supplies to get started except for a pizza peel. I went out and bought it and started my bread baking adventure! I can't believe how easy it was to make. The directions with pictures make it easy for a beginner to follow. The bread came out looking as good as the bakeries Artisan Bread and I had the feeling of pride because I did it! A great book...a must read for anyone wanting to improve their kitchen skills! I am so glad I ordered it from Amazon!...more info

  • I'm a bread baker!
The aroma of fresh bread fills the house. Opening the oven to perfect crusty artisan bread is a surprise to me, and I made it. My family is properly impressed and as a result the bread doesn't last long. The process is truly easy-and it's a luxury to have dough in the fridge, ready to bake for anyone who needs a little home grown comfort. And, doesn't everyone?...more info
I bake for my family, and have done so for over 20 years, and this book has opened a new chapter in our meals. I love the book and the easy, no fuss way that it helps anyone produce outstanding breads. I am buying a copy for my kids for Christmas....more info
  • 5 minute bread is 5 star
It is almost to simple to be believed. I love to bake bread and have searched out and collected different receipes for years. The methods in this book really work. The instructions are clear, the results are as good as any of the longer more traditional methods I have used.
I haven't had time to try all the receipes but the breads I have made are great.

  • You can teach an old dog new tricks!
I've been baking bread for 35 years, and I have to say I was skeptical when I first heard of Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day. However, I am completely sold! While I will still make, occasionally, some of my old favorite bread recipes, I love not only the convenience, but the flavor and texture of the recipes the authors created. There will always be a container of dough waiting for me in my refrigerator! Right now, I have brioche and olive oil doughs waiting for me to transform them into fabulous bread this evening. This is a great book, especially for anyone who has felt intimidated by the idea of baking bread in the past. However, it's also for those of us who have baked for years; simplify, simplify, simplify. Thank you to the authors for their wonderful creativity and diligent research. This is a no-fail system!!...more info
I have been making my family's bread for a few years. I love the smell of fresh baking bread. As our daughter has reached toddlerhood, my bread making time has gone out the window.
Add to that the ever present high fructose corn syrup, the increasing prices, and a concern for what is in our food - what's a girl to do? Enter Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day.

This book has made it possible for me to make good home made bread again. I know what is in the bread. There's nothing I can't pronounce, it's less expensive than store bought bread, more tasty, and I can put the dough together while she's sleeping and bake it tomorrow!

There is a lot more to the bread recipes here than the Main or Master recipe. Don't get stuck there. Explore! There's plenty of different recipes, to suit just about every palate. The granola bread is lovely (granola recipe is also included); the oatmeal bread is hearty; the olive oil dough is fabulous; the buttermilk bread just might be the perfect sandwich bread. I haven't explored every recipe yet but I have enjoyed every single one.

I also love that the bread recipe is place just before things it can be used in. No more - well I have a giant bowl of olive oil dough - now what? (by the way the olive oil dough makes fantastic pizza dough)

There's a few typos so if you get the book, go to the main website and check out the corrections. That's important. I will also say that although the recipe says you get 4 one pound loaves from a batch (depending on the recipe) i have never gotten that. I typically get about 2-3 loaves per recipe. But that doesn't bother me. My sister who also uses this book, gets the 4 loaves per batch, every time.

I love this book. My sister and I are always fighting over who has custody of it. It's the most popularly lended book between the two of us.

This promises what it says: five minutes to put the dough together, let it rise, then into the fridge it goes. Then when you're ready take it out or the amount you are going ot use, follow the directions (which usually mean let it sit at room temp for x amount of minutes ) and bake.

How much simpler could you get???
    Buy this book. ...more info
  • Great bread....great book
Wonderful book and system. Easy to follow. The dough may require some adjustment for moisture or temperature. Works very well in a gas oven. We especially like the breads with additives: Olives, Garlic, Jalapenos etc.... makes a great specialty bread!

The 'non-airtight' container is nothing more than a loose fitting plastic tub (not the snap/burp kind--think plastic shoe box).

We like the metal and composite bread slides better than the wooden ones.

  • Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day
My disappointment in this cookbook makes me a little apprehensive about ordering another "made easy" bread cookbook. I have tried three of the recipes so far and I would not call them failures exactly, but clear disappointments. In future, I think I will go with the old way of bread making. ...more info
  • I love baking bread again!
The recipes in this book have made it possible for me to enjoy baking bread again. It is wonderful to be able to quickly prepare wholesome and delicious breads and pizza crusts at home. Commercial products have WAY too many additives for me. I can eat bread again! This is a 'must have' book for anyone that loves to bake. ...more info
  • Great but not for Kindle
The book was great but reading a book with lots of recipes is an utter source of frustration on a Kindle. If this is the cookbook to judge all over cookbooks that are read on the Kindle, perhaps we should never read a cookbook on a Kindle. There's no trying to quickly thumb back to a recipe you want a second look at that you remember being somewhere in the "front of the book"...NOT on a Kindle. Most frustrating!...more info
