  • ACER Notebook
This is my new favorite toy. I took it to a three day conference for notetaking and it worked out beautifully. The 2.5 pound weight meant I could carry it in a large pocketbook as part of my carry-on luggage and it fit under the seat, so even in the mini-jet, I didn't have to put it in the overhead luggage.

It's great for notetaking and judging by the number of other Acer netbooks I saw in the audience, Amazon must have had a run on them before the conference.

I can see though, where someone with larger hands than mine might have problems doing a sustained typing job because the keyboard is quite small. The screen resolution is fine. This is a great tool for someone who goes to a lot of meetings and is on a lot of committees. The two hour battery is a limitation, but it charges up quickly.

I highly recommend it for someone who needs a basic computer for notetaking or basic processing. ...more info
  • Computer didnt give video
We turned on the computer which is a gift for my father in low B-day, and it never gave video. Seems something is wrong and cannot turn on the screen. I will return this back inmediatly. I bought another ACER netbook and is working amazing.. but this one really disapointed me....more info

I youtubed video reviews on netbook after I placed the order online, I was really concerned~ especially after reading some of the reviews with people complaining about the noise of the fan, the slow internet, etc.

However, now I got it, i must say that: It's
Awesome!!! My second day having it~

I'm trying to make this review as simple as possible(I try not to repeat the great features that other people had already mention)

Great!!! Way faster than my PC (even though my PC has better processor, but it's slower compare to this mini gadget). It does everything that my big PC would do (unlike the review video on YOUTUBE said, that netbook is designed for surfing internet only). Quick boot-up, I can watch video online-youtube, veoh...wherever..

I even have a adobe audition 1.5 on my netbook, so I built a simple recording system on-the-go (that's a pretty intensive program). I tested last night, it seems to work just as well as my old PC, if not, better

    Hard drive size-awesome~ 160GB

    glossy screen

Most likely it's sold under $300 (if you get the 3-cell battery, this is cheaper than my electronic dictionary i got 3+ years ago. It's affordable for the most part.

Keyboard is not an issue (unlike some other quare-shaped model, this netbook is rectangle, so the keys are extended)

Screen is on the small side (hey, it said that it's 8.9'', lol), and I don't know how to bring the brightness down~ is there such feature?

It does get hot if it's on more than 2 hours (with programs running, such as media player, ...)

The wireless button looks flimsy, a bit loose, and I'm afraid that if I touch it too often, it would break----at first i thought it was the lock button...

of course, the inconvenience of not having the optical DVD/CD drive

  • Nice Netbook
I spend virtually all my time on the road, bought this to cut down on weight/bulk and couldn't be happier. The size is truly tiny but I've been really impressed with the quality, performance and expansion capabilities.

The screen is lovely, plenty bright and sharp and I'm seeing right around 2.5 hours of battery life with the standard 3-cell battery.

It's been mentioned before, but the keyboard is a bit cramped (although I'm writing this review on my Aspire One with no real problems) and I find the "enter" and "backspace" keys a bit difficult to hit consistently. That's an acceptable sacrifice given the overall small size and lack of weight.

I can't comment on how XP performs or what software comes pre-installed. I installed Windows 7 as soon as I took it out of the box with no problems. Windows 7, by the way, runs great on this machine although I did have to download and install a touchpad driver from Acer to get the tap/double-tap working.

I really like the multimedia card slot and the additional SD slot and three USB ports. The shiny outer case is beautiful but does collect fingerprints. The built-in webcam works great.

This is a great little laptop for frequent travelers to keep up on e-mail, surf the web, watch videos through Hulu, etc... I wouldn't want to write a novel on it but after a few weeks of use I'm really happy and consider it a bargain at $259....more info
  • great notebook
I received my notebook about a month ago. I use programs like excel, word, corel draw, matlab, ... I usually run 2-3 of these programs plus download files from the internet and listen to music on the notebook at the same time. I have not had any problems. However, my wife bought a similar notebook and had a boot problem (hardware) after about 2 months and had to send it back to be fixed. Hers is working fine now, but we had to reinstal all the programs, since they had changed the motherboard and reinstalled the windows and formatted the hard disk.

Overall, I strongly suggest buying this notebook. The price is cheap, the keypad is not too small, the quality of the monitor is fine, even the sound is not as bad as the reviews I read on the web.

  • Packs a Punch!
I just received my Acer One as a gift last week. I think I'm in love. This little "guy" can do just about everything my full size laptop can do. It came with a free trial to Microsoft Office, but I downloaded [...] onto mine. I also downloaded Mozilla Firefox and have noticed no changes on in speed.

I do some traveling and love to hangout at Starbucks or Barnes and Noble having my coffee and doing computer work. I also do Internet research for [...]so I had to download some special plug-ins and everything has been working perfectly.

The only thing this little guy is missing is a DVD player, but who really needs that on such a little machine? If I really need to watch something to relax, there are many TV channels that now show full episodes right online, so I can get my fix for free entertainment.

    Lighweight (only about 2 pounds)
    3 usb ports
ac power or battery (good for about 2.5 hours)
    webcam built in
    microphone built in
    several colors to choose from

None that I have found so far.

I think this is a great computer for its price (under $300 including tax). I think this would be a great computer to give a student, a mom, or anyone who likes to be mobile.

  • Awesome mini!
I absolutely love this little laptop! I was looking for something that I could bring with me everywhere, so I could always have my novel-in-progress with me to work on. It is everything I could possibly want. The keyboard is just the right size, not too small that I can't type properly, and the screen is perfect. Normally I'm a Mac girl, but I haven't been too impressed with their laptop keyboards and the price tag. For the couple hundred dollars I spent on this I get everything I need. I can't think of any reason not to love it....more info

  • Don't purchase the extra memory for 24.98!
Amazon recommended upgrading the memory for 24.98. The memory arrived in a package by itself, no instructions at all. I read all of the reviews for the memory & everyone said it was easy to upgrade. I still couldn't figure it out so I contacted Acer. They responded & said that this model is not upgradable. I now have to deal with a return. The Acer Aspire One is a nice little netbook but it is a little slow. It's nice to have for e-mail & shopping....more info
  • Aspire One AOA150-1706 Netbook
Great little powerhouse to take on trips for email, movies, use as MP3 and for business correspondence, spreadsheets and etc. When my wife takes it on trips she just puts it in her purse.

Very sturdy and feels like quality. You don't have to treat it like you are holding a new born baby! Can't say this of some other netbooks

Plenty of extra removable storage with SDHC memory slot (good for movies). Easy to add software and data or pictures with USB ports. Takes all current camera memory cards.

This model even came with a nice little travel mouse that works great anytime.

I was hesitant about the size of the keyboard due to size of my fingers but have no problem with this keyboard compared to other netbooks.

Everything you need in one small package for travel or home use if you don't spend alot of time at home on spreadsheets.

Includes an internal wi-fi card. I'm able to log-on to free wi-fi in most airports.

The only thing that can cause a travel problem for some is the lack of a modem. Not all motels, hotels and other away from home places to stay provide high apeed internet service. Some still only have dial-up internet service. However, if you travel alot you can purchase a USB modem to carry with you....more info
  • Great Laptop
This laptop is great for traveling. The laptop is small and light enough to go with me around everywhere. It has plenty of storage space. The processer is also fast enough for viewing pictures and using Skype. The seller is also great. I ordered this from the middle east and it got here in less than a week. I love the color (baby pink) as well. ...more info

  • Doesn't Do the One Thing it Should
My wife and I bought the Aspire One 8.9 to have a light, portable device for connecting to the Internet. But we've had no luck at all using the wireless connection. So far I've spent more than 5 hours trying to fix the problem. Acer's customer support was a waste of time. Based on the hundreds of people who have reported wireless problems with the Aspire One in various on-line forums I strongly suggest that no one buy this netbook. $300 is not a bargain when the machine doesn't do the one thing it should....more info

  • Cute but functional, we'll see?!
Purchased this little pink gal a week ago and it will be on it's way to the Acer repair center as we speak. The fan noise that comes from the forward vent is constantly on and can get annoying after awhile (especially in a quiet room!!) I also have the Dell mini 10 and the fan is whisper quiet. We'll see if the fan noise is something they can remedy or not...Another problem I had with my particular one was my space bar sticking. As I would type, the far right end of the space bar would not move when pressed thus resulting in connected words here and there! Acer customer service is great and got on the ball with helping me sending it for a checkup...How long this will take is still to be seen (or not seen, which ever the case may be!!)
Other than that, this little one is a cutie and the keyboard is very nice to the fingers (when it's fully functional!) Very smooth!
If they can fix the problems mentioned, it will be a keeper!!
With all netbooks, do your homework because they are all quite different internally and externally!! ...more info
  • The Little Netbook that Could do it all.
This is my second Acer Aspire One book. Due to my college daughter taking my first one. This machine is a mini power house the 1 gig of ram and 160 gig hard-drive make this well worth the $[...] I spent on it. The 3 cell battery will give you a little over one hour of use on a single charge. However if your able to buy one with the 6 cell for about $[...] you should. Because the battery if purchased separate will cost from $[...] buck. The video card works well with all of the different video formats. My only problem with this unit is the speakers. the sound is way to low. My blackberry speaker is twice as loud and clear....more info

Excellent computer especially for me as a writter; it does everything I want it to do and it is super fast. It's so light and practical, I can take it anywhere. Also, it's color and material give it a sophisticated finish look. I recommend it to every writer. ...more info
  • OK, BUT!
Purchased this for access to email and the internet while traveling. The size is right, the fit and finish were good; I was excited to have it. However, right from the start we had trouble with the USB ports - 2 out of 3 of them. They didn't work. When I spoke to support they said the only way to fix the problem was to do a "restore" and bring the unit back to factory spec. We did that (after having loaded our own software and changing our preference) and it seemed to fix the problem. We reloaded our software, changed our preferences again and put it away for a week. We took it out and booted it up, and once again the 2 USB ports didn't work. Again we called Acer support (who were very helpful). After trying a number of fixes, we were told the only thing left to do was to do another "restore". We were not happy campers. Not knowing if this would continue to occur, we decided to return the unit to the vendor.

As to the features, I liked the keyboard size. The screen, though reflective, was crisp and clear. However, I didn't like the auto scrolling feature of the touchpad as it seemed to get hung up a lot. Despite the instructions in the user's manual saying it could be disabled, Acer support said that it couldn't.

In its place, we purchased a comparable Assus which we like much better except the keyboard is a bit smaller. But, there is no auto scroll feature, and everything works!...more info
  • Amazon Has Misrepresented the Product As Easy To Upgrade Memory
I purchased my Acer Aspire One AOA150-1635 8.9-inch Netbook with the Memory Upgrade which was advertised as "a quick and simple upgrade you can do yourself." That may be the case with a newer new model if you can unscrew a plate on the bottom and get to the memory. Amazon may be shipping an earlier version of the AOA150-1635 which does not have access to the memory from the bottom. I don't know this for a fact. Installation for this unit requires taking the entire unit apart, which probably voids the warranty, in order to get to the plug-in location. There is no way it is "a quick and simple upgrade you can do your self." I went on line to see how to do it. Check out:[..] and see for yourself if the memory upgrade is quick and simple. I am afraid to upgrade my unit and am waiting to see what will do about this. The advertising for the memory upgrade clearly misrepresents what is being sold. The price is the same as in local stores and is fair. However, if you intend to upgrade the memory, insist on getting a picture of the bottom of the unit or some representation that a quick and easy upgrade is quick and easy. I suspect that I would have been better off purchasing locally with the store installing the upgrade. All I saved was the tax and recycling charge.
