Customer Reviews:

  • Imposter
I received the item I ordered from ZiroIs very quickly. It looked fine, but I could not format this thumb drive as the instructions stated. I sought help from the brand Kingston, and they walked me through a few troubleshooters. Apparently, since there are no numbers on the connector part of this thumb drive, it is an imposter. I contacted ZiroIs and they sent a replacement very quickly. It, too, was an imposter, but it came formatted and it worked, so I am using it....more info

  • Locked up during 20mb+ file transfers
It's great to have access to 64GB of size for transfer, unfortunately, it locks up on 20mb file transfers off my laptop. I have not seen any other reviews suggesting that so perhaps there may be an issue with my unit. I've used 1,2,4gb USB flash drives without issue from Kingston. This one, however, locked up during mid transfers, unfortunately....more info
  • This is a great device to carry around
All my prior USB flash drives were 8 GB or smaller. I was looking for a 16 or 32 GB drive, and saw that this 64 GB drive was in my price range.

It works with my Dell desktop PC's running Windows XP Home, Windows Vista 32 bit, and Windows 7 beta 32 and 64 bit.

The drive comes pre-formatted with a FAT file system, which is good, as Windows no longer allows large drives to be formatted to FAT.

It isn't exactly the fastest flash drive in the west, but it is one of the largest affordable drives. The physical size is no larger than typical 2, 4 or 8 GB USB flash drives.

If you need a lot of space in an easily portable drive, you could do a lot worse than the Kingston Technology DT150/64GB 64GB DataTraveler 150 USB 2.0 Flash Drive.

It can't be used to speed up Windows Vista or Windows 7 like some other USB flash drives. It doesn't do readyboost. Only purchase this for a lot of storage at a reasonable price.

It holds backups of my personal files, in the event of a drive failure or accidental deletion. This is the first drive which can hold my large music and video library.

I'm very pleased with this drive and with Amazon's quick delivery....more info

  • slower than a snail
This is the slowest USB drive that I have ever owned. It takes over 4 hours to transfer about 2GB of files, so I though I had a defective unit. Just called Kingston's tech support line, and it turned out the marketing dept jumped the gun and released a version with an old internal controller. The tech support person also owned one of this and had similar experience as I described to him. The return dept demands credit card info if I want them to send the replacement first. I refused. After all, it's their faults, and they should send a replacement right away. Waiting for the RMA label. Last time to buy Kingston, unfortunately, not only due to one particular defective product, but I'm really disappointed at how they handle their most loyal customers -- I owned many Kingston flash drives since their first was released....more info
  • Large capacity, great size and price
8 years ago, I bought a flash drive of the same price and size but has only 1GB on it. Technology sure is really fast because now, 64 times the capacity, same size and price! Greate purchase, I was lucky enough to buy this product a week ago when it was still a bit cheaper than the current posted price of $122. Main reason for buying the product is because my WD passport hdd broke. This one is not 320GB but it's more reliable and portable. I don't mean to compare this with a high capacity HDD though, I was just devastated because all my files were gone :(. Can't wait for them to come up with a higher capacity flash drive soon.

The product is sealed in a blister pack, very simple packaging. Be careful when you open the pack though, don't throw it away because there is also a lace included in the cardboard-type sort of manual where the licensing and stuff are printed. This lace goes through the hole at the bottom of the flash drive (see the picture that I've attached in this product). This is why I wondered why one of the reviewers had to make the hole bigger when there is already a lace included.

Flash drive capacity is as advertised, you get a little over 64MB (nice!)and there is a separate 32KB for the system files (note the word separate). I tried to see how long will it take to write files on this thing so I copied over a movie file worth 173MB and was able to transfer it in 14 seconds, giving us over 12MB per second. Not as fast as a spinning HDD of course but still manageable (I'm not particular with the write speed anyway). As for the read speed, I'm not sure how to measure this so I decided to load a movie instead, didn't encounter any lags or anything for the whole duration of the movie.

Finally, there is no external switch to turn on/off the write protect settings for this item. You might be able to do this using a program that will invoke the setting on board. Personally, I don't use this setting that much since we get a lot of prompts that warn us when the same files will be overwritten and the capacity is huge anyway.

Overall, one of my great buys in amazon. Currently out of stock as I write this review, lucky me :)....more info

  • Generally satisfied
The main thing is that it's big. Read performance is often near 20 MB/s. Write performance is 3-5 MB/s for a single large file, but barely a tenth of that for a directory containing many small files. Mechanical construction is disappointing. It's a plastic shell wrapped in a thin printed layer that will likely not survive long in a pocket. At least it stores the cap. In nearly a month of use, I haven't noticed any operational glitches. I'm generally satisfied, but if I had it to do again, I'd probably make a different choice, even a smaller drive with better mechanical construction....more info
  • Traveling office
I have my entire office workload, archives and all, and Outlook files as well, stored on this amazing drive. Each night, besides my regular backup, I backup changed and new files to this device. The device is fast, so backing up to it (or copying files to it) takes little time. Then I put the drive in my pocket and have it with me wherever I go. This is the ultimate backup; I could - if necessary - restart my entire business anywhere in the world without missing a beat. I recommend this drive highly....more info
  • Dissappointed
The hole for hanging on the keychain is toooooooo small.
I had my husband try to enlarge the hole and the entire outer casing came off.
Now I have a flash drive that has a red top and a black body.
So far it has worked fine; however it doesn't look good.

  • Needed formatting out of the box. Slow...
Out of the box, I got an error trying to access the flash drive. I did a full (not quick) format using NTFS and that solved the problem. I'm not sure if there were any built-in applications since I never got a chance to see.

This memory is SLOW. It took me 5 hours to copy 24GB over a USB 2.0 connection. It seemed like forever.

On the plus side; this is a huge amount of memory in a slightly larger than normal shape. Keep in mind that this is 100 times as much memory as you would have gotten a few years ago for the same price. I'm a programmer and have two virtual PC's, documentation, DVD training and numerous ISO DVD images stored with room to spare. This is cheap insurance to backup a fairly large amount of data.

  • Not good
Started off by locking up after a couple minutes of writing data to the drive. After 3 hours of frustration I only had about 10 gb on it. Then low and behold it was all gone. Now I can't read or write. Got an RMA from Kingston so we'll see. Seller did everything right, no complaints....more info
I have brought this item and I thought it was one of Kingston's great products, but, I was TOTALY wrong, First, it's a very slow USB compared to Kingston 8GB, and when I tried to copy 35GB file on Vista it just got disamount and the copy process stops, but, when used with Windows 2003, it stated that 100% is copied and after it was finished, it gave me an error and again, NO FILE.
I have read a lot of reviews online, regarding this issue, I hoped that I have done that before I buy this worthless item.

Don't buy if you are planning to use it with large files, but, in 1GB file or less, maybe it will hold up to that.

  • for a non techie, this thing works like a charm
I've had a few USB flash drives in the last few years. Purchased from Costco (all types), from Fry's (Sandisk and some general no names) and finally decided that I wanted a true large capacity flash drive. I read the reviews where people had liked the speed and ease. I also read about some Kingston flash drives that people had thought was much slower. I can say for my 4 systems(XP on multiple HP desktop systems purchased from 2004 thru 2008, XP Pro on Lenovo T61 laptop) and this drive works like a dream. It did not require me to download or install any driver/software. Worked out of the box, and transferred 30 GB's(10 GB's at a time at about 10 min. each batch) of data. I am satisfied and I do believe it was faster. I can't wholly remember as I did not think it was slow at all. I now take it whereever I go if I need to pull up any of my past photos or documents in a jiffy. And the $116 price tag was well worth it....more info
