  • Can it get any better??
I just want to start off with saying that until I purchased this t.v. I've never been a fan of Sony. For me it seemed that they only made over-priced, mediocre electronics that didn't ever compare to what the rest of the industry was providing. Yet, after endless research I decided to buy this Sony as our first ever flat screen t.v. and all I can say is WOW!! I've seen HD on countless other flat screens over the years, but this set is by far the best for under $2000. I was dead set on getting the Samsung 650 for the last 4-5 months because the image was so beautiful in every store I saw them in and it seemed like the best deal for the money (not crazy expensive, but not cheap such as other lesser known brands). However, i was looking around in a Frye's one day and saw the Sony XBR6 on display right next to a Samsung 650 and was surprised at just how much brighter, clearer and more detailed the Sony was! They were each running the same video loop and you could easily see that the Sony truly did have much darker blacks than the Samsung (black on all the Samsungs actually looked grey compared to Sony's, which canceled the idea of maybe the 650 just wasn't calibrated correctly). After searching on Amazon and seeing how they were offering the set for $150 less than anywhere else along with free shipping I decided it was time to get one and I couldn't be happier. The amount of features and inputs on the XBR6 is amazing. Whether you get this set or a Samsung you won't be disappointed, but I just had to say how much I love this LCD in case there are others out there like me who just can't get enough info. before deciding to buy a new t.v. ...more info
  • Great TV!
I just got my 46XBR6 yesterday and I tested it out. First was regular cable through the coaxial cable hook-up. That looked very good and I was impressed. Then I hooked up my digital cable box via HDMI and tried that input! WOW! I was floored at how good the NCAA tournament looked! I felt like I was in the arena watching the game live. What was a blur (players faces and sneakers) in the coaxial hook-up, was crystal clear via HDMI. Let it be said for those who simply do not know any better, without HDMI you may think you're watching HD content, but you are not! Oh my goodness! Every HD channel was amazing! Then I fired up my PS3 via HDMI and the games were amazing! BluRay was mind blowing!

I then looked for dead pixels, flashlights, smearing, clouding, and all that other stuff you guys seem to complain about, and I saw nothing of the sort. Mine was manufactured in February 2009, so that's probably why. Or I guess I'm just lucky! Never the less, I am extremely happy with my purchase and the price ($1649) I got off Amazon through J&R Music & Computer World was a super deal. I'm glad I was able to get it when I did! This TV is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who is on the fence about getting it!

  • Sony Bravia 46" XBR6
    Sony Bravia XBR KDL-46XBR6 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

The Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR6 was our choice after a lot of research into HDTVs. The Sony Bravia XBR6 series was best suited to our preferences because of its picture quality, audio quality, and high end feature set. Since picture quality is reviewed by many others, I'll concentrate on the audio and feature sets.

Audio: The sound was far and away the best of any of the sets we compared. We do not have a home theatre setup at the moment, so we are relying on the built-in stereo speakers. The XBR6 projects a clear stereo image with better bass response than you normally get from inboard TV speakers. They claim in the marketing literature that you get a surround-sound type image, but I don't think it lives up to that claim. In addition, there are audio settings that allow you to customize the sound a bit, sort of like a primitive equalizer. Also, there is a cool feature that brings out the voice over other audio on hard to hear movie soundtracks.

Feature Set: Mixed reviews here, although still an overall positive. The TV has a USB port, and we have successfully shown slide shows using pictures we brought over from our computer with a flash drive. I would like to have more control over the slide show feature on the TV, which is fairly primitive. We have not been able to get all USB devices to be recognized by the TV. It seems the more basic, the more likely it will recognize them.

We have successfully used the TV as a monitor for a PC. This is simply a matter of connecting the two with an RGB cable. This allows us to display powerpoints and other documents, and display web sites through the computer's wireless capability to the TV.

The disappointment has been the networking capability. There is a network port for a wired connection to the network. The device picks up an IP address from the DHCP on the router (this part is for the more technically inclined), but I can't do anything with the device even though I see it on the network. I can ping it, but can't interact with it any other way. I have spent hours on web sites and on the phone with Sony, but noone has been of any help with this. A big disappointment.

Otherwise, a great TV. We're enjoying it immensely, and find that it provides a clear image even in our den, which has a glass western wall and gets a lot of afternoon and early evening sun. ...more info
  • HD is required if you want a great picture, otherwise don't bother
The picture stinks if you don't get HD service, so don't bother buying ANY flat screen unless you are going to tack on the extra, on-going cost of HD. I confirmed the same experience with my sister who just bought a different brand flat screen.

We went with this one after visiting the big box stores and reading all the reviews. The picture is incredible when you get HD. We use a satellite network, and please be aware that in order to get the best HD picture your DVR unit has to be located near the TV (instead of in a different room like ours was.) I don't like looking at the DVR unit, so we bought a new media center that has shutter doors so there is air flow, and we had already invested in the special remote where the frequency goes through walls/doors.

The only 2 things nit-picky things I don't like are this:
-- the SONY lights up when you turn it on. It really drove us crazy at first, but I got over it after a couple of days and don't "see" it anymore. The only good thing about it is that you know the TV is on when you click on the remote (the TV doesn't make any click "on" noise like our previous one did.)

-- I really didn't like the silver speaker bar at the bottom and it almost prevented me from buying the TV. But it was the perfect size and great picture so I put up with it. I think it's insane to pay $100 they are charging to get a black overlay strip. Way to go SONY.

Our TV was delivered by FED EX. I had no idea when the TV was due to arrive, so I was out of the house when they came the first time. I called FED EX to see what time they were expected to return the next day. The customer service rep couldn't give me any time range. So I was forced to stay home the next day until it came (because you have to sign for it.) Luckily they came mid-morning. The young kid put it on my door step and reluctantly asked if I wanted him to bring it in. Being the 5'1" woman that I am, you would think that would be a no-brainer. No white glove service for me, he just left it in the box inside. If you purchase this and want someone to set it up for you, you will have to do some research with Amazon.

My 5 stars is for the TV picture, best price, and it got delivered in a timely manner without any damage (it's well packaged by the way.)...more info
  • Bravo
This LCD is top notch. I saved over $1000 compared to the price at the local Best Buy. The delivery went fine; two nice people brought the TV inside, unpacked it, and set it up on my TV stand. I was able to throw in a DVD to test it before signing off on the delivery. (I had this setup ready as a courtesy for the delivery people)

The 120hz is definitely the way to go. The blacks are truly black on this TV, and the color are vivid and bright.

I have a PS3 which functions as my Blue-Ray & DVD Player. Batman Dark Knight (BR) and Hellboy II (BR) look sweet on this TV. PS3 games look awesome.

As a side bonus, the menus for the TV are easy and quick to navigate. I've had other TVs where it's a pain to change anything--even the video input.

I have a receiver and surround sound, so I can't comment on the TV speakers. ...more info

  • we love it
the sony bravia xbr6 kdl 46 inch 1080p has been wonderful. the white glove delivery was excellent. the two delivery men unpacked the television and put it in its stand and told us to wait until it was warm to turn it on. the december delivery caused the need for the warm up. we had our local cable company install a hd-dvr and we were ready to watch. even though one of us is technology challenged, we found the remote easy to use. the picture is excellent and the sound more than adequate. our whole experience using amazon as a vendor was great. ...more info
  • Sony Bravia 46"
I did a lot of research to find the right HDTV and settled on the Sony 46" XBR6. It arrived quickly and I was able to set it up in less than 30 minutes. It has a beautiful picture and good audio. The price I got at Amazon (been a customer for 10 years) beat everything in stores and on the internet. I did buy the 4 year warranty package directly from Sony and got a good deal on that also.
I also ordered a high def Sony DVD Player from Amazon which showed up almost immediately. It took about 10 minutes to unpack and hook up so now I have a great home entertainment center.
I have checked several times since Christmas and the Amazon price is still very competitive.
I have now gotten to the point, if I need something and it is on Amazon, I just buy it knowing if I have a problem, they will take care of it.Sony Bravia XBR KDL-46XBR6 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV...more info

  • Nicest I've ever had...
This was my x-mas gift to myself. I bought the 46" then tried to make an order change to the 52" but was too late. Amazon had a great deal going at the time, cheapest price I've ever seen on this TV (even cheaper than any sale going on now) and came with a free SONY blue-ray player on top of that. Great sale. TV is very nice. Very sharp picture. Automatically switches inputs for you which I find very nice (when watching TV and you load a DVD, it switches to DVD for you. When you turn DVD off, switches back to TV for you). Viewing angle is as they say it is, about 178 degrees, but as you move to the side the colors fade a lot so it's not a sharp picture from extreme angles. Very nice appearance. It's a fixed stand so you can't turn the TV when mounted but mines on the wall. Very nice set....more info
When i was looking to replace my old tv with a new LCD tv i spent about a month researching different brand tvs. MY search came down to the Sony 46XBR6 and Samsung LN52A750. Both tvs had the features i was looking for in a tv but samsung lost out to sony because i own a lot of sony products and have had ZERO problems with them.
Well iv had the tv for 3 days now and i am glad i went with sony! The bravia sync is a god sent, no more having to push the input button when i want to watch a dvd, I just turn on my sony blue ray and the tv does it for me!This will work with any electronics that are compatiable.
The picture is the best i have seen, alot of people say that they are getting ghost in their black screens but i have not seen this on mine!
let me tell you that if you are a gamer you will not believe how the games look on this tv! Its like going from playstation 2 to 3! its that good! trust me iv been playing for 30 years!
Movies are just as impressive!I have 400 dvds of the old format and even when they are upconverted they are amazing! the sound of the tv is real good,i know alot of people have not been happy with the sound, but I have found that it matters what type of equipment you put though the tv! cheap equipment= bad sound! I can go on and on about why you should choose this tv but believe me when i say that this is a winner! Oh if you are worried about the tv being shipped, dont my tv was fine! not even a mark on the box! thanks Amazon! ...more info
  • Very satisfied!
I have not stressed this TV too much since I am using a Pioneer AV Receiver which upconverts all video and handles the audio itself. As such it only sees full 1080p signal. So probably some of the satisfaction can be credited to the receiver. I really like the fact that the screen brightens up during the day (at least appears to be significantly brighter and easy to watch even in bright surroundings). On the other hand, I wished it was a little brighter during the night. Yes, I have played with the settings. I also got a good deal on it in the 2-day post-Christmas sale in 2008....more info
  • Shopping for TVs on line---A First
Buying this product was difficult for me from the start because there are so many choices on a subject about which I know relatively little. I visited a local electronics store and spoke to friends about various brands. Then I selected what I wanted and compared prices. Amazon definately offered the best deal with no charge for shipping and no tax in my state. I am very pleased with my set and your service....more info
  • Sony Bravia
This TV is exceptional in every way. The color and picture are perfect, clear and you feel like you are on the field during the Pittsburgh Steeler games. We have it hooked up to a Bose system and the sound is awesome. Would highly recommend this TV if you have HD access on your satellite or cable. ...more info

Amazon is a great vendor and this Sony LCD lives up up the hype. It replaced a Samsung DLP which is also a very nice TV, however the black and the color contrast is superior on the Sony. It is also much better for daytime viewing or in brighter lighting situations. I am very pleased with the TV and as always with Amazon....more info
  • TV's Great, "White Glove" Service isn't

The 46" Sony TV works good, but does need some adjustment to the picture. I've tried to make adjustments exactly as the manual instructs, but to no avail. No big deal, but I guess I'll have to call the service dept. Now on to what really bothers me.... The promise of "White Glove" delivery.

Our new TV was delivered on Dec. 23, 2008 at 5:45PM. We paid for and expected "White Glove" delivery service. What we got was ONE individual who was "sorry" that he was unable to install the TV (Sony 46") on a new TV stand we purchased because it was too big for him to handle alone. (I offered to help.) We had EVERYTHING set up and ready for the installation. What the delivery people (we expected more than one guy)had to do was attach two brackets to the back of the TV and hang the TV on the stand. Really, no big deal. The individual again was "sorry", but he was only able to do a "standard" set-up. I guess the standard set-up consisted of placing the TV on a table and walking away. We ended up doing the job ourselves, and disposing of the packing material.

Many TV's this big are hung on a wall or onto a stand. Our request was not unusual, and certainly well within the realm of a customary installation. You need to retrain your delivery personnel to accommodate a simple installation other than simply placing the purchased TV onto a table.

  • Much better than KDL46Z4100
We bought both the 46XBR6 and the KDL46Z4100 Series. Although the Z-Series has a slightly bigger viewing angle, the picture of the Z-Series can't even come close to the XBR6. With both of them hooked-up receiving the same signal (DirectTV) the XBR6 had unbelievable clarity almost 3D like.
While the Z-Series seemed to struggle to process the signal. If we just hooked up the Z with nothing to compare it to, we probably would of been happy with the picture, but after hooking up the XBR6 we went from being happy to being amazed. Needless to say the Z went back to the store and the XBR6 is here to stay....more info

  • XBR6 = Great Quality
The White Glove Service left a little to be desired. They were running several hours late and wanted to get in, unpacked and out as quickly as possible.
The TV, however, surpasses all my expectations. I've read several reviews about the blacks having "clouds" or streaks of light. Nothing like that on ours and the Blu-Ray disks are more clear than going to a theater....more info
