  • Works for me
I am a talk radio junkie and now can get talk radio on all different subjects from all over the world. Love it. Too bad it doesn't work in the car!...more info
  • Global Info & Entertainment Search Time Saver
Since receiving this device I find I use it daily as a source of search for Global English & Foreign Language information-news and entertainment radio stations. Rather than use "Google" or some other search engine this device saves time in locating global radio sources. The "favorites" feature is straight forward to use and as you use the device more and more you can set radio locations aside in the favorites section. I happen to use the news-talk feature frequently to listen to foreign sources discuss economies and business news rather than the homogenized sound bites we get even on our so called business network radio or TV stations. ...more info
  • Doesn't work, but useless anyway
Received this item as a gift. Very thoughtful, but completely useless.

I use Macs exclusively at home, so right off the bat, I'm in trouble as it doesn't support Mac OS. I have two Windows XP computers for work, and tried both. Neither work. One doesn't recognize it at all, the other does, but along with the application starting I get new Explorer windows popping open every 2-3 seconds over top of the app... never saw such behavior before. Can't get to the app due to the Explorer windows, so never got to try it.

The bigger question is why does anyone need this silly thing anyway? iTunes has hundreds of radio stations, so does Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc. [...].

  • Useful Every Day
I use the Aluratek daily. I have owned it for over 2 months. I have cable internet access ie not dial up. Thousands of stations as listed. Good search capabilities. Until they find a way to charge us, the radio stations are free.

I was looking for two stations in South Africa that were not available. After finding the URL's and sending them to Aluratek - one week later they were there.

Saving favourites to My Favourites is the easiest way to get what I want - there is just too much choice otherwise
I highly recomend this product. It is not perfect - if the Web has problems it will have problems livestreaming - but that is a rare problem. Obviously there is a slight time delay on reality, but this is so convenient as my One Source for internet radio....more info
  • Super Easy to use, and FUN, makes a great gift too! HEAR the WORLD!
Aluratek is known for high quality radio devices, and this is a handy and very affordable member of the Aluratek family.

What I like MOST about this is that it is goof-proof- you simply plug it in to a USB port, the program loads and you are free to explore- there is nothing complicated here.

Like many reviewers, I remember enjoying short wave as a child - my family felt it was important to be exposed to other cultures and far away lands. This is certainly easier to use!

While one can argue that most stations can be found for free without the Aluratec- but would be rather time consuming- this is much easier.

I have used this on my Vista Premium Toshiba laptop, as well as my Acer 10.1 inch netbook running Windows XP - no problems with either- this truly is plug-and-play.

I think it makes a sensational gift too- be it a young person, or a senior or anywhwre in between.

People seem to be delighted by this product, as it has the "WOW it WORKS" factor going for it- you open it up plug it in and you are good to go.

It is also nice to hear news from around the world- I love the notion of hearing real time financial data and commentary from Europe, Japan and China.

You cant miss with this one - get one for yourself and maybe another as a "just because" gift for a friend or family member -this is good!

  • Amazing product.
Aluratek AIRJ01F USB Internet Radio Jukebox (Black)
Wow! If you like to browse the radio stations of the entire world, this is your product. It is inexpensive and reception is largely clear. There are still a few minor kinks to work out. But, anyone who has depended upon Short Wave Reception in the last century should upgrade to this product. This is version 1.0. It can only get better!...more info
  • Would Not Automatically Detect
I tried plugging it into a secure Desktop which runs Windows XP Pro, and the self-starting app did not run automatically. Tried 4 different USB 2 ports and the device was not automatically detected. Used Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 and now using Norton Internet Security 2009. In both Internet Security software (one at a time), I disabled anti-virus and would not automatically detect. Then disabled firewall and same results. I took the device to Best Buy and tried it on a PC that had Windows Vista Home installed and it worked. So the device is good.

Any suggestions on how to get it to work on Windows XP Pro appreciated....more info

I love my little Aluratek usb device. I liked it so much I decided to give it to 5 people for holiday gifts. I pretty much only use the genre listing and I love being able to find the music I like so quickly. :-)...more info
