Unusable. Sent power surges through my computer when I tried plugging it in. Will not risk plugging it in to another machine again....more info
- Deacent item but you get for what you pay for
It's a decent case. It was hard ask heck for me to get the case open to put in a hard drive but after that it worked well. Formatted it as HFS+ for awhile on my mac with a 120GB HDD and that worked well was able to use it and eject. Then I formatted it as FAT32 and am currently using as so. I am able to read/write/eject from XP and OSX. Aside from setting it up I have had no problems with the drive. My only concern is that there is ZERO padding or protection for the HDD so I'm always careful not to knock it off the table....more info
- Great for price
I read the reviews on Amazon and decided to purchase. Installation was super easy. Put my old hard drive in, was kind of scared to break it because you kind of have to wiggle it in and then make sure it's in place, but when you do it works great. Have been using it for quite awhile and it seems to protect my hard drive well and it functions perfectly when plugged in. Great product for the price!...more info
- Breaks easily
While most of the case is made of aluminum, the slots that hold two pieces together are made of plastic. After the second time I closed the case, one slot cracked down the middle, and the other broke off completely (I would post pictures, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to put the case back together if I opened it). It was fully functional for about a week, but afterwards the USB port on the enclosure stopped working properly; wiggling the cable was the only way to get to get the enclosure connected, but the connection would fail immediately. I was able to use a different USB cable than the one included with better luck.
I would only recommend this case if you plan on never opening it after you install a drive inside it, and you plan on always leaving it plugged into your computer.
Very simple installation
Flimsy mechanism for keeping the case together won't survive being opened more than a couple of times
Built-in USB port is unreliable
Terrible instructions (screws and a screwdriver are included with the drive, but the instructions make no mention of them, and the case has no holes for inserting the screws)....more info
- Durable dispite the low price
This little Enclosure is a life savor at a low price, if your laptop's motherboard breaks or something along those lines, this is your solution, take out the hard drive, make sure its either ATA or SATA, if its SATA it will fit into this casing no problem at all. It will double your memory space, and allow you to use what you have instead of going out and spending 100+ dollars on similar items, like the FreeAgent Go extrenal hard drive. Totally recommended. ...more info
- Require Y cable to use it normally
This item is compact and slightly smaller than WD passport external hard drive.
The case open from both sides. Hard drive can be fixed onto the frame with supplied screws from one side.
I have used this item with a Hitachi 2.5 inch SATA drive. Y cable has to be used to connect to several computers.
Working very good....more info
- Nice Looking Enclosure

- good quality, works as it should, but just a little slow.
It was very very easy to put my hard drive into this thing. You don't even need the screws that come with it. Just open it by pressing the silver button, pop in the drive, and close the cover.
It works with my MacBook Pro and is probably the cheapest way to preserve my hard drive. But it's kinda slow. With the mini-USB to 2 USB ports cable it comes with (and I've tested with other cables with one USB port as well), it was 15-20 mbps at most. Maybe because it's a Mac, I don't know.
I would still recommend it, BUT not for those who need a fast external drive....more info
- Great for the price
I purchased the hdd enclosure for an old laptop hard drive and have been very pleased with it. I purchased it for $7 shipped, and for the price, it was a very good deal.
I have found this drive very portable, and slightly more durable than expected (it has survived being dropped from about 4 ft several times, but thats not recommended). I love the fact that it is powered only from the USB port and requires no additional power cords, unlike larger drives which require an external power source.
It is constructed of relatively cheap plastic and came with no instructions on how to use it. However, being an external hdd enclosure, it's pretty self explanatory on how to insert drive and plug into computer. It included no CD for driver support, but thats not necessarily a problem. Both Windows and Mac have built in driver support that mounts the drive and sees the data. I have not tried this on Linux, but it is only mounted a "generic usb drive", so one would assume Linux would have no issues with it as well.
I certainly recommend this drive for the price....more info
- A quality Product!
I just received my 2.5" HDD case and was very pleasantly surprised with my purchase. I guess I just assumed it was made of plastic, and, I expected a cheaply made product for $4. and change. Now that I've gone back and read the description I see it does indeed say aluminum, As you can guess I don't read instructions either or follow road maps, but at least this one time I feel vindicated in my failure to comply, and I still don't need no stinkin' map. Anyway, I highly recommend this product the finish is flawless, its well constructed, its made of fairly heavy gauge aluminum (for its purpose) it comes with a nicely made carrying pouch, a small screw driver, a double headed USB (or Y) cable and it has an LED on the front. A lot better deal than some cases I've seen here for $20.00 . BTW, Eforcity shipped this product very quickly. Hint! Push the button on the back to open it. Highly recommended....more info
- Works Great / Case doesn't fit
With either one or both USB plugs inserted it still worked fine. The case did not fit at all. The drive I used from a Sony laptop worked, but what is the point of trying to look slick when you can never put on the top on the case? ...more info
- It works.
My 2.5" SATA harddrive had a hard time getting into the case, lack of precision making equipment I assume, but after getting some leverage it went in. Plugged it into my computer (XP), formatted and now use it for school work, and portable applications. All the computers I plug it in to are unable to "eject" it, or tell it to shut off. I have not had any loss of information from "drive write failure" yet, but it may worry some. I think this problem arises because it is powered by USB and there is no on/off switch. Overall functionally is great.
The black casing with the silver middle makes it a very attractive casing, with minor smudging.
Top and bottom pieces seem strong, but I'm not quite sure I'd drop this 5 feet and expect my harddrive to still work. When I was trying to open it, I broke off an unnecessary peice, (cheap plastic) and the USB cable wiggles up and down easily, but does not come out.
Came with useless (to me) CD.
The case for the case is nice, keeps extra dirt out of the casing, I would hope, otherwise it is useless.
Overall: (out of 5)
(Quality for price is right on the mark though.)
Comes down to an overall 3. =)
