The DVD Player works really well. The picture is really good. The sound works well. I am really pleased with this purchase....more info
  • Good Product
Great DVD player, good picture and sound. Plenty loud in the car. I did have an issue with the location of the battery release and the ease in which the battery would slide off. Other than that, it worked well at keeping the kids entertained on our 5 hour drive blasting Yo Gabba Gabba and The Chipmunks. ...more info
  • Perfect
I am very satisfied. The picture is very clear. The video does not skip like my other DVD player. The screen is big enough. The sound is good. Love that one can put 2 headphones. I recommend this to everyone. ...more info
  • Happy Camper!
After researching many portable DVD choices, we are so pleased to have selected this one! It has everything and more. I never thought we'd need the remote, but we do. The picture quality is stunning; the screen size is perfecto; and the sound quality it superb. We scored when we selected this one. We are very happy campers! Great price too!...more info
  • Excellent Product
The Sony DVP-FX820 is a truely great product! The Battery Life is exceptional as well as both the picture and sound quality. Get this item on sale since the Sony DVP-FX930 came out. It is essentially the same product but with a 9" screen....more info
  • Great Size!
Any bigger and this would be more like a laptop than a travel DVD player. We have used it several times and while the sound quality could be a little bit better, overall it is a great little travel media item....more info
  • DVD Player
I am very pleased with the DVD player. It has been durable for a 5 and 7 year old and very easy to operate for them....more info
  • Good DVD player
I have had this DVD player for a couple of months and have found nothing wrong with it. I am happy with the picture quality and the sound. With my older DVD player you needed to use earphones in the car or you couldn't hear it over the car noises. I have no problems with this Sony being able to hear it in the car. I like the swivel screen and that you can still access all the control buttons just below the screen.

Another reviewer said that you couldn't fast forward or rewind without the remote control. The "enter" button that is located between the "options" button and the "return" button allows you to both FF and REW.

I am very happy with the battery life. I get at least 5 hours out of the battery and I didn't change any of the settings and I haven't used earphones at all. I charge the battery right before I am going to use it because I have noticed that the battery discharges when you aren't using it for a period of time. My older DVD player did this also.

I really like the "hold" function on this unit because it locks the buttons so that my grandkids can't mess with them when they are watching a movie.

I highly recommend this DVD player....more info

  • Best portable dvd i bought
My first dvd player i bought was a toshiba mode SD-P91S i thought it was ok good battery life good 9 inch screen. But the sony with its 8 inch screen is alot brighter and clearer, also the battery life is about the same. the sony also performs better it dosnt feel cheap, and plays amlost any disc without any problems. the toshiba is very picky on the disc you play, and like to skip alot and make lots of noise. buy this sony its one of the few good sony products...more info
  • Awesome!
We absolutely love this DVD player. The battery lasts forever and the screen quality is amazing, better than one of our t.v.'s! Great deal for the money and we love it!...more info
  • Sony DVP-FX820 8inch portable DVD player
Have researched the web for some time to find the right unit to use while on the treadmill, as of this writing I have not been disappointed the image is sharp, the audio on the headset more than adequate, the battery is a miracle in design, and the service from Amazon as usual was exceptional....more info
  • Cool little thing but...
Works perfectly and battery life is amazing.
Only down is that you need the remote to fast forward it... You can skip scenes, but as I use it to pre-screen movies, it is slightly annoying that I need the remote for that.......more info
  • Great!
This is an excellent CD player! Child lock prevents little wondering hands! My daughter loves it! She will watch it while in the airport. Priceless investment. Best DVD player with great features - Sony never dissppoints!...more info
  • Great Player, awesome screen picture, swivel a must for airplane
I bought this after reading the reviews. The screen is really sharp, just as others have said. I didnt think I would need the swivel part, but when using on a plane it is a must. I took this to a trip that involved a 5 plus hour plane flight and watched hours of movies. The battery life held up and the swivel screen was very handy in the cramped seats because you can swing the player portion around to slide back while the screen can be tipped back and slid back. ...more info
  • not a right regional code
My husband bought this player in US as a gift. The seller hasn't warned him of the fact that it would only play region 1 stuff. It is useless for EU users.

  • Great Picture / Crappy Speakers
Initially, I was skeptical that I could actually enjoy watching a movie on a 7-8" screen, so my shopping was leaning more toward a unit with a 9-10" display. But it soon became clear (no pun intended) that a higher quality small screen is actually more pleasing to watch than a comparably-priced unit with a larger screen. When it comes to picture quality, this Sony is just about the best. Even a wide-screen letter-boxed image has sufficient detail and clarity to make you quickly forget you are watching in miniature.

On the downside, I was surprised at how bad the sound was. Not distorted or anything, but extremely thin and tinny, like a telephone on a table across the room. This seemed really odd, especially given the high quality of everything else about the unit. To be fair, I'd guess that most portable DVD players aren't any better, since there is probably the assumption that everybody will be using headphones (on a plane, in the back seat, etc.) But I bought this to watch movies with my girlfriend on camping trips, and the idea of the two of us each wearing headphones in our tent didn't sound like much fun. But the built-in speakers are simply unacceptable for decent enjoyment.

However, since I liked most everything else about the unit so much, I tried it with several different portable speakers and finally decided on this little guy from Altec Lansing... Altec Lansing iM-237 Orbit Ultraportable Speaker for MP3 Players (Silver)... This very compact speaker sounds great and makes the Sony sound about 500x better, resulting in a very satisfactory viewing/listening experience.

One more minor annoyance --- it APPEARS that this DVD player has a complete set of controls on the front of the unit (just below the screen) which would make the included remote unnecessary (the remote seems silly anyway, since you will generally be using the DVD player at no more than arm's length). HOWEVER, the buttons on the front will NOT allow you fast-forward or can only jump back or forth to the next "chapter". If you want to "scan" within a chapter, you must use the FFW/REW controls on the remote, which is just one more thing to carry. I hope Sony corrects this oversight on future models.

  • Nice "toy"
I bought this as a birthday gift for my husband to use on airplanes, in particular. It's compact, has a great screen and sound...very clear and easy to use.

The battery died on the way home from a trip...guess we should have charged the battery in the hotel room. Now that we know, I{m sure there won't be any problem. He used it to listen to some CD's, too. I think the battery lasts about 6 hours.

Completely satisfied with my DVD player. Doesn't need outside speakers on this one; plenty of volume. The price was also very good and delivery excellent. Can't go wrong with this Sony DVP-FX820 8-inch portable. All my friends at work use and desire to purchase one down the road.

I would highly recommend this product to all....more info
  • Good quality; don't like buttons
The picture quality and the sound quality are great. I like the general design and this one is slim and sleek. However, I do not like the button controls. There is no easy on/off button, which is really disappointing since I wanted to make it easy for my 4-year-old to manage herself. Now I have to be involved in helping her. The on/off switch is on the side, and it is more of a sliding function. You have to press it really hard to make it go on, and it takes several attempts before I get it right. HATE THIS. I also don't like the menu selection buttons. Again, difficult for my daughter. The last one we had was easy for her to navigate.

I also use this as a DVD player to plug directly into a TV. It was not a quick plug and play. It took me 1/2 hour to get it to work by pulling out ALL the cables to everything, replugging them in and then getting it to work somehow.

Other than the buttons and the cable situation, it's a nice unit....more info

  • Awesome
I was looking for another portable dvd player with a longer battery life and I'm so glad I went with this sony one as the picture quality is outstanding. I didnt find any problem with the sound, it does not come with headphones or a carry case but as I already had acessories it was no big deal, and having a six hour battery can't be beat for the price,I have always loved sony products and have not been disappointed,my previous dvd player was a polaroid and it was okay but couldn't compare to sony!...more info
  • Great product
I needed a DVD player with a long lasting battery and I have been very pleased with this product. Furthermore the picture is clear and the price was quite reasonable for the quality of the player....more info
  • good purchase
I am really happy with this purchase. I have only used the dvd player for a few trips. My daughter(20 months) seems to enjoy it.
I decided to go with Sony after reading some positive reviews for this product. I looked at other brands(cheaper ones), and read those reviews too. Like what other people have said, the battery life seems to be good, and volume from the built in speakers are loud enough so that it can be heard amidst traffic noises (this was something that was important to me, as my daughter is too young to use a headset).

I also bought a Targus carrying case from Walmart, and that made setting it up in the car easy.

I would highly recommend this for anyone with kids, it could be a life saver on long trips....more info
  • Love it.
This is a great deal for a portable dvd. The picture is excellant and the sound is ok but better with headsets. Have fun running dvds in bed and outside on a hot summer's day....more info
  • Great player; display developed row of bad pixels after 60 hours.
My wife purchased this for me as a birthday gift in the fall of 2008, after doing considerable research. I used the DVP on several flights for work, and absolutely feel in love with in. This is a great looking display, and the remote works well. Battery life is pretty good as well. After my home DVD player gave up the ghost, we started using the DVPFX820 for general home use. Unfortunately, with about 60 hours on it, a horizontal line appeared in the display. Sony has offered to replace the unit with a refurbished unit (with cosmetic blemishes) instead of replacing the display. They claim the display is not covered in the warranty for parts!!! I sent it off for repair; we'll see if they keep a customer or lose one for life. ...more info
