  • it was better than I thought
I bought this camera a few weeks ago. Before I bought it, I read many reviews. I was concerned about some of the negative reviews. However, I was relieved after I got it. It turned out much better than I thought. If you have time to play with it, it has amazing functions for such a small camera at this price....more info
  • Really worth the price
Nice, beautiful look. It's cheaper to buy online then at stores. Has many features that are so easy to use, there is no need for a manual. Supports only XD and Micro SD, though it's better to buy the micro SD card from amazon. Takes nice clear pictures and automatically focuses on the item you want to take a picture of. Just give it 2 seconds to focus and out comes a clear picture. The macro feature is amazingly clear and High Def. I never wanted to spend more than 200 on a digital camera, but this is worth more than 200. ...more info

  • Keep Looking
This is one of those times when I assumed the obvious and was wrong. Who knew that Olympus had decided that no one needed a date & time stamp on their photos... I use the camera for work related inspection photos and need that feature. A friend cautioned me to look at Canon before I bought but I didn't listen. Now the wife gets a barely used Stylus 1010 and I get to spend more money on a Canon SD880....more info
  • Its ok but i expected better.
Hi, After reading all the reviews, I decided to give this camera a try. Its a very beautiful cam. I love the color and all the features on it. My only little problem is that the shutter is so hard to press down. By the time it actually flashes, the "moment" for the picture has passed. ...more info
  • Great pictures, Excellent price
The stylus is a bit larger than we had wanted but the combination of 10 MP and 7x zoom was too good to resist. We have had 4 previous Olympus digital cameras and have liked them all. This one is small enough to fit in many shirt pockets, or a purse. Image stabilization helps overall picture quality. The batteries are very small and light, and hold a charge for a lot of pictures. Uses the same XD cards as previous cameras. The back display is large and easy to use, as are the camera controls. Very easy, for instance, to change from auto flash to fill flash while your subjects are still smiling. We bought this for our first European trip and we are very happy with it...more info
  • Pleased with this camera
I am a newbie to the camera world, and my camera needs are quite simple. I wanted a simple no frills camera to take pictures.

    - Takes quick pictures. This camera does not take forever like some others do. This was a key feature for me as I have a newborn and its easy to miss out on key moments due to waiting for the picture during, and that nasty delay after you take a picture that prevents you from taking another.

    - The interface is very non-cumbersome. I am non-techie when it comes to cameras. This camera fits the point and shoot type of mentality. I also like the interface for the setting that asks you what type of picture you are taking so that it can adjust the flash (it asks portrait, water pictures, night pictures etc...)

    - The charger is very non-bulky. Lots of camera come with chargers that have long cables and just cause clutter. This one is a little box that plugs into your outlet and the battery goes inside the box. Nice, simple and clean. Battery life is quite reasonable.

    - Turns on and is ready to fire very quickly (at least versus other cameras I have used).

    - A little pricey for a simple camera, other simple cameras are less expensive. However, I was willing to pay more because this camera takes quick pictures and this was a critical feature for me.

    - I have noticed some noise on the pictures. I should point out that this could be user error as I am just using the default settings. The noise is very small and I really only notice it when using my huge 25.5 inch monitor (that has a decent color and resolution display). On my 22inch monitor (that is of lesser image quality) you cant really see the noise. I personally don't have a problem with the noise because I was willing to accept some picture noise for quick performance. I did want to mention this flaw as I realize there are people out there who maybe more anal then myself about the quality of the picture. If I had to put a number on it I would say the picture quality (on default setting) is 7/10. I also noticed that many of my pictures came out with Red Eye - but it was easy to fix with Vista's default picture viewer which can fix this with a couple of clicks (again not a issue for me personally but I did want mention it.

So far I am very pleased and I would recommend it, esp if quick pictures is important to you (assuming you don't mind paying a little more).

Side note: I noticed the camera came with some software to edit pictures, I have not installed the software so I cannot comment on that.

  • Disappointing camera
For a long time I looked forward to owning a Stylus 1010. I'm sorry to say that I'm sadly disappointed. There are so many good reviews that I thought it was a sure thing. I wanted it mainly because it's small enough to fit in a purse and it's the only pocket camera I could find with a decent zoom (7x optical, equivalent to 37-260mm). Unfortunately, every time I have the lens completely extended I get a blurry picture.

I also get many grainy photos. In all but the most ideal light situations the pictures are grainy or blurry. Sometimes in full sunlight they are overexposed. This is mainly with it on automatic settings. I have played around with some of the multitude of other settings but have not been any more impressed. Sometimes supermacro will give you a cool shot that is clear but just as often it will give you a blurry shot. If your subject is moving at all with the macro settings then don't even waste time trying. That is pretty much true with every other setting except sports. And, I don't mean moving fast, I mean moving even slightly.

This was supposed to be an easy point and shoot camera that my fiance could also use but it's obvious that he will not be able to count on getting a good shot with it. Sometimes I think that my expectations were too high because I normally use a (semi) professional camera (Nikon D70S) but I do think a pocket camera should take at least 70% of the "normal" or "easy" pictures clearly. I've owned a pocket size Canon camera before and got much better results. The Olympus Stylus 1010 is a sad disappointment....more info
  • Great Camera, Compact
Very useful camera and compact. Upgraded from a 5MP 3X zoom to this camera, no comparison. So far the pictures have turned out really good. Also the video quality is great. Although i'm not sure if the item was new, looked new but the box was not sealed....more info
  • Love this Camera!
We purchased this camera back in the spring of 2008, we have had a blast with it ever since! It takes wonderful pictures even on "Auto" mode and it is very easy to use all the different mode options. It even takes great pictures in the dark on the available light mode, inside & outside. We use this mainly for family events and outdoor trips. I don't have one complaint about this camera, it has everything we need and more. ...more info
  • Get a Canon, not this
I bought the Stylus 1020 (same as the 1010 but with a better display screen) but quickly regretted it. This camera has a 10 megapixel image, but even when shots are saved at the "FINE" setting, the image quality is noticeably poorer than a 4-year-old Canon Powershot 6-megapixel camera. Comparing images from this and the Canon side by side, it's obvious that the Canon images are crisp and clear, while it looks like the Olympus images are shot through gauze or fog.

Yes, I did check to make sure the lens was unobstructed.... No luck there; it was clean as a whistle. I'm turning right around and taking this camera back. Please don't disappoint yourself. Get a Canon (or anything else that has better picture quality). ...more info

  • pretty decent camera : )
I purchased this one month ago to replace my canon sd200 of 3.2mps/ 3x zoom. I wanted the 7x zoom in a small point & shoot. When comparing, I prefered the color saturation (white balance) better in my Canon! I still like my little canon and think it takes some better shots! I took a lot of side by side shots and was even considering returning this new one! However this Olympus can do amazing things...the technology has come a long way. I do love the panoromic stitch mode, in camera editing, etc...however, I was VERY disapointed when I used the continuous shooting mode with the zoom. My pics were automatically shot in a lower resolution and they came out quite pixelated. (it was an important event)
Overall, now that I have had time to really play with the camera and work with the modes, I actually find it is a decent and fun camera for most people to enjoy. It does most of the thinking FOR you if you want it too! It is a lot of camera for a small price. I still don't always like the color tones vs my canon...but that's just my personal take.

UPDATE: now 2 months later.....I am using and loving my camera more...I have finally downgraded and given my beloved Canon to one of my older children. I did find a feature that was very helpful that I use quite often which helps with the color saturation! I turn on the "SHADOW ADJUST" little button on the lower bottom right (shared with the erase button) and that brightens up my pictures and makes me much happier! I wish I did that from the simple...and it really makes a difference!...more info
  • So Far, So Good!
So I bought this camera about a month ago, because I was looking for a replacement for my Stylus 310 (It seems so long ago...). I had read all the reviews, both positive and negative, and was - to be honest - a bit hesitant to invest. However, I've come to trust Olympus, and I know that often, a poor review can stem from limited knowledge of how to make the most out of a product.

Needless to say, I gave in, shelled out the $250, signed up for Amazon Prime (yes, the trial saved me about $11 in expedited shipping charges), and next thing I know: shiny new (silver) toy!

The camera is great. I've taken some really amazing super-macro photos (I call them my "study" on texture), the battery lasts seemingly forever, the optical zoom is impeccable, and I had no problem taking lengthy videos with a non-Olympus card, and the Shoot and Select modes have proven to be a veritable party starter.

I think this camera has reinstilled my passion for on-the-spot photo taking and seeing the world through a very large, bright, and clear lcd viewfinder. I say go for it!...more info

  • Wonderful camera
This is my fourth Olympus camera. I started out with a film version and have purhcased Olympus every since. I purchased this camera for use with my consulting business. This camera is fantastic; easy to use and durable. The pictures are very clear and the grid helps me to center the pictures. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone that needs a good point-and-shoot camera. ...more info
  • Avoid this model!
I have owned a 1010 for over three months, and I am very disappointed with it. The images are consistently flat, lacking in color, and usually blurry. The flash mode is never remembered, so it usually flashes outdoors when you don't want it to, and sometimes with a force (fill) flash set to on, it won't flash. During videorecording, the sound is flawed by loud scratchy noise at the start of each recording....more info
  • Fastest Power-On to Shoot!
A great little pocket camera, with an incredibly fast power-up time to take a picture. Lots of great "shooting modes" and a nice in-camera panorama feature (xD card only) made it great for my last trip. The 7X optical zoom was perfect for some long-distance shots, but even the image stabilization can't keep those perfect. Great display and battery life (I won't miss exchanging the AA batteries like my old model). A 2GB xD Card is good for storing a lot of pics, especially if you don't need to shoot above 5MP (and who really does?)

Very nice! These little cameras are getting better all the time, but sadly, still lack the speed and picture quality of a full-sized SLR. ...more info
  • Great picture quality!!
This camera was a steal.... I decided what camera I wanted based on the features, and then checked around for the best price, and the Amazon price was about 40% cheaper than any of the stores in my area.

Picture quality is fantastic and I like the small footprint. It is easy to handle and relatively easy to use for point and click photos. But you can also play with the settings if you want to take even better pictures.

The only think I don't like is the battery. It is expensive and you really have to have a second one charged and ready to swap into the camera. The other option is to take the card out of the camera and charge it when not in use, etc.

Otherwise... it is a GREAT deal on a fantastic camera. Not the top of the line by any means, but well worth the price. ...more info
  • Excellent camera
I can't find anything wrong with this camera. Both zoom and clarity outperform my friends new Nikon digital 35mm slr. That was a shock to me and him. Long battery life, very bright display, unbelievable video. Also, it is superior at low light settings, even with the flash off. Just put the dial on SCN and find the 'available light' setting. It comes out brighter than it appears to your eyes. Also very easy to operate. ...more info
  • Big Zoom in a small package
I forgot my camera for my son's graduation for college. We had a video camera, but I wanted a point and shoot. I've owned older Stylus models before and never had a complaint, so when I saw this with 10 megapixils and a 7x optical zoom, I knew it was mine.

As with any camera you have to discover all the features. One that I loved during the graduation was a continuous shooting mode. I have about 20 or 30 photos of him walking across the stage getting his diploma. With those kind of shots you never seem to time the best shot right, but now you don't have to. You get them all and can pick out the best of the bunch. That mode did use up alot of the battery though.

Battery life in general has been great, I don't have to recharge every 2 seconds, and I can pick up my camera after not using it for a couple of weeks and there is still "juice".

    Overall very happy....more info

I did a lot of research before I bought this camera on Amazon and I love it. It is simple to use, haven't quite learned the more advanced settings but to turn on and just shoot is super easy. • Olympus Stylus 1010 Camera
I diligently searched for a good quality point & shoot camera that was easy to use & small in size. I used the product reviews by Amazon & other camera sites. I recently used the camera for a Mediterranean cruise & absolutely loved the ease of use of the camera & picture quality. It's easy enough for an amateur to use & has other features that I'm looking forward to learning how to use....more info
  • The Best Point & Shoot Ever
I needed a new point & shoot digital camera since my previous 2MP 3X optical zoom obviously has shortcomings. After days of online research I almost purchased a Canon Powershot. Then I came upon the Stylus 1010. What had me was the 7x optical zoom. But what almost turned me away were reports of 10 seconds cont. video recording time at 640x480 30fps. After further research I purchased the 1010 along with a 2Gb M+ card. Happily when I droped the card in and started recording video at high res. it started counting down from 18 minutes. When I played back the video on my tv the picture and audio quality was great. I did not need to do a firmware upgrade as some said. Once I got to using the friendly controls and the zoom I was awed. People are amazed when I show them pictures of objects with and without zoom. Very impressive for a compact camera.People complain about the panorama mode but there are two in-camera and one pc mode which are very easy to use. Must admit at first I was a bit disappointed with the overall photo quality but that was before I knew how to use features like autofocus and metering. If not sure what settings to use just select 'auto'. Another thing I like is that if you are not sure what a function is for the 'disp' button gives a written explanation. All in all this is a very good camera. Excellent picture quality, excellent zoom and more features than you can get bored with easily. So to all who had doubts like me, once you are going for a compact point and shoot this is the camera for you. ...more info
  • Nice.
Overall great camera so far, no complaints. Taking video at highest quality is no problem even with the cheap 4gb sd micro card I have, the firmware update fixed the problem with only being able to take 10 sec of video on those cards. A lot of people have said that without the flash the pictures are blurry, which I did see at first. But if you use the 'available light' setting, the pictures come out clear as day....more info
