Product Description

The standard length of a marathon is 26.2 miles, and the Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat will cover more than 100 times that distance. The Britax Marathon Convertible car seat is one of the most functional seats to ever hit the market. Slightly larger than other Britax Car Seats, the Marathon is legendary for safety and comfort. It's important to note that the shell of the car seat is a bit bulkier than others, so parents should allow for about 31 inches of seat space when used rear facing. Some of the unique features on the Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat include a five-point polyester harness with no-tangle polyester webbing, built in lock-offs for the car's seat belts, and a push-button LATCH system with VersaTether. This Britax Car Seat provides the utmost security in both forward and rear facing installations. The Britax Marathon has Expanded PolyStyrene (EPS) padding to protect your baby in the event of a collision. Britax convertible car seats are equipped with their patented HUGS system, which is designed to better distribute webbing loads to reduce head movement and minimize the chance for the webbing's edge to load on the child's neck. The Britax Marathon provides parents with an all around top-rated car seat. However, it might be too large for compact cars. For those looking for a smaller Britax Car Seat, the Britax Roundabout is a perfect choice. It is a little smaller than the Britax Marathon, and it is designed for children weighing up to 40 pounds.

The Marathon from Britax is a durable, convertible car seat that helps keep your child safe and secure in the car. Ideal for parents seeking premium comfort and a higher, forward-facing harnessed weight capacity, the Marathon fits children rear facing from five to 35 pounds and children forward facing from at least one year old and 20 pounds, up to 65 pounds. Both positions can accommodate a standing height up to 49 inches.

The Britax Marathon offers:
  • HUGS system for maximum safety.
  • Easy-to-use push-button release LATCH connectors.
  • Five-point harness for a secure fit.

The Marathon's LATCH system is easy to adjust. (Crocodile color shown.) View larger.
An Easy-to-Adjust Design That Grows with Your Baby
The Marathon boasts an easy-to-manage design and enhanced features that can be safely used in cars with or without the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system. For one, it provides built-in lock-off clips that keep the seat tightly in place when using only traditional seatbelts at installation. Secondly, a simple handle pull allows the car seat base to be reclined when rear-facing, and soft padding and a stain resistant, removable and washable cover keep things cozy and stress-free.

In addition, the five-point harness system is made with strong polyester webbing, has tangle free straps, and fits snugly over your baby's shoulders, collarbone and hips to provide a secure fit. There are also four adjustable height positions so the seat can truly grow with your baby. Finally, the one-hand recline adjustment allows for proper positioning, which helps ensure your child's safety.

HUGS for Optimum Safety and Support
When it comes to safety, the Marathon truly delivers. First, the patented floating HUGS (Harness Ultra Guard) system exceeds U.S. safety standards by reducing forward head movement as it gently cushions the neck and chest with soft padding--a feature that's particularly important both in the case of an accident and during nap time. In addition, this system better distributes the webbing loads, reducing head movement and minimizing harness irritation on baby's neck in case of an impact. HUGS also reduces the chance of improperly positioning the chest clip.

Versa-Tether for Additional Security
Marathon also offers Britax's patented Versa-Tether, an anchor aid that provides additional security in the forward facing position for children weighing more than 50 pounds. The Versa-Tether fastens the top of the car seat to factory installed automobile anchor points, minimizing the possibility of a head injury in the event of impact. This system also allows for rear-facing tethering to help keep the seat consistently stable.

Weighing 16.5 pounds, and measuring 19.5 x 27.5 x 25.5 inches (WxHxD), the Marathon is also Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 213 compliant, meaning it adheres to a strict set of quality control and safety standards, and is approved for airline travel. The Marathon comes with a 1-year limited warranty.

The Marathon is also available in the following colors: Onyx, Mariposa, Tan Swirl, Crocodile, Mossy Oak, All Star Blue, New Denim, and Granite.

  • 5 point harness with patented Floating HUGS system and 4 harness heights
  • Built-in lock-off clips, Versa-Tether & Safe Guard LATCH Connectors
  • EPS and Comfort Foam for safety and comfort
  • Rear- and forward-facing recline
  • Rear facing: 5 to 35 pounds. Forward facing: At least 1 year old and 20 to 65 pounds

  • Britax Car Seat
As a new 59 year old Grandma, I was able to buy this for my car, install it (and I have arthritis) without difficulty and it functions. ...more info
  • Happy Customer
Love the car seat. The fabric is very easy to clean. The color is neutral enough for either boy or girl. I just wish it has more cushion.
I would recommend this to anyone. LOVE IT....more info

So far I really like this car seat. My son really loves to sit in it. Easy to strap on the baby and seems very comfortable. ...more info
  • Very Pleased
Very happy with this carseat. It is easy to install, we still have it rear-facing for our 11-month old son. It is solidly built, I feel safe with him in it. Another important thing: Comfort. Most seats, it seems, have just a thin layer of padding atop the hard molding of the seat. This seat, however, is nice and plush.
When we had this seat checked by our local carseat technician at the firestation he said not to use the tether system until we turn the seat around, the Britax website says you can use the tether rear-facing but we see no point, plus there are no anchors in that position in my car.
One negative is the first couple of weeks , we had our son in the seat with the straps in the lowest position and to tighten him in, while pulling on the front tightener, the metal mechanism under the seat was catching on the molding thus preventing us from tightening as much as needed. But the fireman said to loosen the straps and re-tighten. When he gets a little bigger and graduates to the next level strap height, that will not be an issue. Even now after about a month of use, it is not an issue.
Other than that, our son is very happy in his new 'big boy seat'. I would purchase this seat again if I needed to....more info
  • Expensive but worth it
This car seat is expensive but very comfy. I purchased another car seat that is less expensive and regreted it because it is not as comfy. This car seat is worth it considering that you can use it for many years. ...more info
  • 3rd Britax and still love them...
This is our third Britax and we still love them! The straps are study and don't twist when you remove the squirming toddler from their seat. The seat covers are plush and hold up reasonably well (our 2 1/2 year old Marathon is starting to show a bit of wear). They are always rated high on the safety standards and are so easy to install....more info
  • A happy customer
We purchased two of these car seats for our 8 month old son. We had an infant carrier previous to this convertible seat, but our son was approaching the weight limit and seemed to be getting too tall as well. I am very pleased with these seats so far. The instructions were easy to follow. It took my husband and I about 6 or 7 minutes to install. I installed the second one by myself and it took a few minutes longer. I would recommend two people if possible, but it is absolutely manageable on your own. Adjusting the straps is a bit tricky and when we have to adjust them again it will probably require removing the car seat, but I don't think this should be a deterrent for buying the seat. My son fits in this seat well and seems to like it. He does get hot when he's in the seat for a long period of time, but based on his infant carrier and reviews of other car seats this seems to be a common problem for most seats. Finally, the space it takes up in the back seat is the same as our infant carrier. The passenger's seat that it sits behind is adjusted at the same angle and distance back. Although, it does seem a lot bigger it still fits in our small cars. ...more info
  • great carseat
the Britax Marathon is working perfectly for our 1 year old. We've only had it for a month but it seems to be well made. I think my favorite feature is the no-tangle straps, which make strapping in a wiggly baby much faster....more info
  • LOVE this carseat. . .
My family is a Britax family, we have 3 different seats. I would say this is one of the best seats of the Britax family. It gives us plenty of room for my one year old now and can easily see her in this for the many years to come. My three year old has sat in it and still has plenty of room.

She is still currently rear facing, just turned 1 and is only 22 pounds. Will probably keep her rear facing for a little longer, she still doesn't mind getting in it. She often falls asleep as soon as we get down the road.

The fabric is very cute and soft....more info
  • Best Car Seat around
My granddaughter loves this car seat. It is heavier and sturdier than all others I have seen. It is very comfortable and cushy. Very high quality. I highly recommend it....more info
  • great buy!
We are very pleased with the Britax marathon car seat. Our 10 month old was out growing her infant car seat and didn't enjoy driving until we moved her into this seat. Facing forward, and the height of the seat allows her to look out the window and enjoy the view! She's much more comfortable.

The straps and seat are easy to adjust and install, making it very user friendly (this wasn't the case with our infant seat). I strongly recommend paying the extra money--you'll be pleased with your purchase! I know we'll buy another one for our other car!...more info
  • Great seat!
This carseat is great. I've used it for two boys so far and it's held up fantastic. It's comfy, easy to use, easy to clean and best of all, Safe! I love the length of rear facing....more info
  • Britax marathon carseat
Britax has great products so all I can say about this carseat is that its color is a lot darker than I thought. This is our second Britax marathon carseat for our second child so we only had it for a couple of months. So far so good....more info
  • Great car seat
I own four of these - have six grandchildren that I baby sit and put them all in a big SUV. Had to get rid of two other brand car seats because they never worked properly or felt safe. The Britax are well constructed and reliable and come in all colors to match car interior - or not. They meet all safety standards and have good safety rating. Easy to take cover off to clean it too!...more info
  • Britax Marathon
This is our second Marathon. The first was in a car that was, unfortunately, totaled. Neither my husband nor I gave any thought to replacing it with anything else. It's sturdy, easy to install and adjust, the fabric is durable and can withstand anything my 15-mo. old daughter can give it, and she's comfortable. The velcro near the armrests keeps the straps out of the way when placing her in the seat. If she's still using this seat when we have another child, we'll definitely get another for baby #2....more info

  • Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat
This car seat is awesome- fantastic price! I've actually purchased three of these previously for my son - one for my car, one for my husband's, and one for my mom). The kids are so comfortable in them - i will never use anything else! I started both of my children in the Graco Snugride, which is great for a tiny infant. However, both of my children grew very rapidly, and the Snugrides are only supposed to be for children up to 22 lbs. I believe my daughter is there already and my son was by four months, so what's a mom to do? This carseat is a fantastic option because it can be forward or rear-facing and it has a recline for rear-facing so the baby isn't thrown forward in the seat. My daughter is so comfy in it (at only 4.5 months). We didn't discover this with our son until he was about 10 months and his poor little legs always looked so uncomfortable in the snugride. So now we have purchased a total of 4 of these car seats. I intend to buy two more yet (one more for my car and one more for my husband's - my mom got this one and my husband and I are still sharing the Snugride for her, but not for much longer.) This car seat is pricy, but worth every penny. I highly recommend!...more info
  • Good Seat, Great Service
We've had this seat for two months now and love it. It is very easy to install into vehicles with the latch system and is equally easy to remove. We also like the pull strap at the front of the seat to tighten the shoulder harnesses after buckling in the little one. Our biggest complaint is that the shoulder straps seem to twist and tangle quite often, making it a challenge to buckle in a squirming child at times.

Overall, a great seat and great pricing & service from Amazon....more info
  • Great Seat
We bought the seat in the limited edition Mossy Oak Camo, for DH of course. This is one of the first things we bought for our baby. After reading reviews, my parents still thought I was crazy for buying such an expensive carseat.

I would not bring my newborn home in this seat. Honestly, I probably wouldn't put a "normal" sized baby in this seat until 6+ months. My son happens to be growing like CRAZY. At 3 months old, he weighs around 16 pounds. He has been holding his head up since the day he was born (freaked me out) so I felt safe enough to install our Marathon and let him try it out.

He LOVES it. With his infant seat, he had gotten to where as soon as you sat him in it, he screamed. You put him in this car seat and he doesn't even whimper. He will sit back there wide awake and stare out the back window. I think the key for him is he doesn't feel like he's lying down. He feels like he's sitting up like a big boy.

My main word of advice is READ the manual. DH is stubborn, knows it all, and wouldn't read the manual. I'm car seat impaired, so it took me a while, but I finally figured it out. My problem was I couldn't find the latch straps that were hidden inside the car seat. After that, it was pretty simple.

I would definitely go with the car seat again and plan to buy another down the road.

  • Nice seat, difficult instructions
The seat itself is very nice and fits relatively easily in our vehicles despite its overall seat size. The seat straps are harder to twist than others we have tried, but they do still twist. The instruction manual is not easy to read or understand and adjusting the straps for different sizes was cumbersome. Overall the safety features are what was important to us, and the other items can be overcome. ...more info
  • Love the Mossy Oak!
It is a great car seat.
It was expensive (compared to other brands) but worth it!
It is defiantly very safe from all the safety features and well built.
I would recommend this to anyone!
The only slight problem I have with it is my son is bigger for his age and the buckle part is a little hard to clasp and not pinch his leg.

  • excellent
i love this car seat... we have an infant carrier and didn't want to buy a new car seat every other year. now that he's 9 months old, this should be his one and only! my baby constantly falls asleep, even short distances, so it must be comfortable. easy to tighten and loosen up for his bulky jackets. ...more info
  • Great car seat
This is a really great car seat! I thought the price was too good to be true, but it wasn't. I received the car seat in new condition as stated and it came to my home extremely fast. I found the best price ever for a Britax carseat here on this website. I still can't beleive I got it for a steal, when in the stores this car seat goes for $279.99. This car seat is one of the safest out there, which is the most important reason why I purchased it!...more info
  • Mom of Three
We have three Britax Marathons (one for each of our children). I wouldn't purchase any other carseat. I was recently in an accident with one of our children in our minivan. She was in her Britax, and suffered no injuries. This is a great carseat and you won't regret spending the money to purchase one for your own child....more info
  • Great carseat!
Britax carseats are super easy to install, and are very comfortable for the baby. I definitely recommend them, and they are worth the money....more info
  • Great Car Seat
I purchased this car seat when my daughter outgrew her infant carrier and so fat the seat has been perfect, its easy enough to install and remove to put in other cars, the padding and protection are suburb. I did research galore prior to my purchase because i wanted the best seat for protection without spending $400.00. I love the color and the softness of the fabric, my daughter seems to enjoy it too!...more info
  • Safe and Secure
We shopped very carefully for a carseat for our son, and once he outgrew the infant seat (Graco SnugRide), we looked to Baby 411's gear guide to see what rated best. This carseat was the winner.

My son is a tad small for his age, but he rides like the king of the backseat when he's in his carseat. This carseat is washable, I can say that for sure! Our son is 3 and eats snacks frequently in it, and we just wipe it down with a baby wipe. Bigger spills can be taken care of by removing the straps and cover, which is easy to do. It's well-padded, cushy, and I feel that the "wings" around the head-area keep my kiddo safer.

The only problem we've had is, it's BIG. We drive a BMW 325i and now that his legs are getting longer, my son is getting a little cramped. With my husband's seat pushed back (when husband drives) it's a tight fit.

Shop around for the best deals on this seat: don't wait until you MUST have one, and you'll have time to sort through the different prices. ...more info
  • Brittax marathon
This car seat is great and lived up to all our expectations. It cost more than some others but we like it much more than a Graco that cost half as much. We wish we would have spent the extra money and gotten a 2nd Brittax instead. This car seat will suit our child longer and seems to hold him in a more comfortable position while sleeping. With the Marathon and the Graco both installed correctly, my son's head falls forward in the Graco seat as it seems to sit him slightly more upright. Very satisfied and we bought another now that we have a 2nd child. You can catch these on sale occasionally and save a few dollars off the fairly steep price so keep your eyes open if you're considering this product....more info
  • Seat cover very hard to take off
My son likes the car seat. Today he spit up in it and I had to take the seat cover off. Britax has a video to show you how its done, but in their demo, the seat is not in the car - so of course it is easy! Most of us will try to remove the seat cover while the seat is STILL in the car. You have to undo 3 buckles (difficult when the seat is still attached) and pull the straps through the seat (gross when the seat is covered in spit up), so the straps got spit up in the process. Britax really ought to come up with a design where the seat cover is easier to take off especially when most of us will take the seat cover off when its gross (and do you really want to struggle 30 minutes pulling straps through a spit up car seat!!!!)

Worse of all, after I got the seat cover removed, the tag in the back said "hand wash only"!!! If I knew that, I wouldn't have removed the seat cover in the first place and would have simply cleaned it while it was still on the seat.

    Very frustrating!!! ...more info
  • Fits in my Civic
The thing I was most worried about was whether or not the seat would fit in my civic. (It's a 2002) It works just great! We have plenty of room where before (with her chicco carseat) we were pretty tight. We have the marathon seat sitting forward. I didn't ever put it backward since she's one now and over the weight limit. So, just for the record, it does fit well in a Civic! No problems there. I also love the velcro on the straps that makes it so I dont have to sit her on the straps and then fish them out from behind her. They just stick to the sides and ta-da, easy to get her in every time. Great product, I'd recommend it.

Also, I wish I had bought two when they had the two for twins deal going on. For now we would have just kept one in my car and one in my husbands. We plan on having more children and this seat fits up to 4 year olds... so that would have been a good investment. oh well. I'll just buy another one in a few years probably....more info
