- The Dream Match Is Finally Here
Freddy Krueger is in hell and he's come to the realization that everyone has forgotten about him and the legacy he had left behind when he died. So he formulates a plan to get people to remember and fear Freddy once again, but he isn't strong enough to do it alone. He resurrects Jason Voorhees by pretending to be Pamela Voorhees and tells Jason to go to Elm Street. Once there, Jason does the dirty work and Freddy Krueger's name starts to spread. The more fear that spreads, the stronger Freddy gets. Things seem to be progressing in Freddy's favor until Jason unintentionally steals a kill from Freddy and winds up setting the stage for a battle between two horror icons that fans have been anticipating for at least a decade.
After so much buildup and fans waiting so long for this epic confrontation to take place, there really was no way it could live up to the hype. With that being said, it isn't a terrible film. Just disappointing. It really feels like more of a Nightmare On Elm Street film than a Friday the 13th film. So, right off the bat, that gets to me since I wasn't a big fan of the ANOES franchise and I'm completely biased towards Friday the 13th as a whole. Jason is also suddenly afraid of water and emotional, which hurts the character overall. While this may be the biggest Jason to date, he certainly comes off as the weakest. Freddy seems to be two steps ahead of Jason throughout most of the film, as well. While it makes sense overall, the F13 fan in me would've liked to have seen Jason have a bit more control offensively in the film. Overall, I think the most disappointing factor of this film is that a sequel never materialized even though the film did fairly strong numbers at the box office and on DVD. A few of the endings that were scrapped would have been amazing compared to the inconclusive one we wound up with. It's just a shame because a follow up is nothing more than a dream sequence at this point.

- Loved it
Brilliant movie. In my opinion, one of the best movies out of either series (Friday the 13th or A Nightmare On Elm Street), it's really great. Lot's of suspence and gore and the cool death scenes - everything you could want from a slasher movie.
The characters were great to, well developed and likeable and there were quite a few funny lines that made me laugh - and I thought the scne near the start where the teenagers ran out of the house screaming was really funny, like the movie was spoofing itself.
People make fun of this movie having Kelly Rowland in it but I thought she was a really good actress and she played a good character, too.
Brilliant movie, for fans of Freddy or Jason, or both (like me) :)....more info
- Battle for first place
I love this movie. It's filled with so much action. I especially love when they are fighting at the end. This movie is definately worth the time and money....more info
The spooky atmosphere makes these films. I recommend this Film to anyone. My favourite movies are pts 1-4. Pt 1 - 3 brings me back to my youth and the DVD transfers are fine, if you are after something intelligent, this is not for you, for the films are a fun and entertaining session of good-looking horny teens getting slashed. I think the series went a bit far after pt 8, but what the hell its all popcorn stuff anyway. For all the people bagging Paramount GET A LIFE this box is beautifully put together, (like how many times do you need to see Jason do the sleeping bag thing)???????

- It was good, but don't expect anything that will scare you to death.
Since a bunch of people have already explained the whole freaking plot of the movie, I'll make this short. It's a fun movie, and I liked that they went back to some of the old elements of Freddy(What N6 loses is gained here), but there's nothing mind blowing about it. Basically, it has people from the Freddy movies, strong willed, independant outsiders, and people from the Jason movies, young, dumb, and fun. It difinately has some great efffects in it.
Freddy shadow puppet
evil children in "missing posters" looking at Lori while she's following the blood
others that I may've forgotten
They definately added to the appearance of Freddy and Jason.
Freddy-best make-up yet-awesome noisy glove-back to old roots with the 50% evil 50% humorous, I personally think that's from the N3 genre
Jason-look is ultimate-has cool hair-has cool outfit-great hockey mask-cool jacket.
All in all, a solid movie but I urge you, if you're new to Freddy and Jason I suggest starting out with N 1,3,4,or 7 and from Jason F1, F7(eh, I thought it was good despite what people said), or F8 before going on to FvJ. Nonetheless I can't wait for FvJ2.
btw Lori, aka monica keena, is hot!...more info
- Make them remember me
I've been a bigger Friday the 13th fan than a Nightmare on Elm Street fan. The woods simply seem more inherently frightening and dangerous than a suburban street for horny teens. In any event, I feel that both of these series, especially Friday the 13th, have lost their lure in recent years. Trying to find ways to bring back our favorite slashers and attempting to do it in contemporary fashion have fallen short, in my opinion. I've remained a fan through it all, yet when they took Jason out of Camp Crystal Lake and brought him to New York City, he somehow became less imposing and some of the mystery was lost.
Freddy vs. Jason was an idea borne years before this film began pre-production. The premise of the film (Freddy calling on Jason to strike fear back into the children of Elm Street) is decent, but it seemed to me that something was missing...
I enjoyed the movie, especially the dream sequences, but I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong with the film. It just didn't feel like Friday the 13th to me. It felt more like a Nightmare on Elm Street film, but even those movies were scarier. This movie bordered on absurd at times and much of what we had come to know about Freddy and Jason was betrayed in this film by way of contradiction (i.e. Jason suddenly having a phobia of water after he had, on many occassions in the past, pursued people into the water to kill them).
I am glad that this movie was made and I will always remain a fan, but I feel that with all of the time and writing that went into this idea, it could have been a hell of a lot better. The story was not bad, but the movie was simply not scary or suspenseful at all. It's a must see for any fan of either series, if for no other reason than to see what your favorite classic slasher is up to - but don't expect to get that good old feeling you used to get when watching a Friday the 13th or a Nightmare on Elm Street film back in the 80s and 90s.
The bonus material is extensive and quite exhaustive. They cover every aspect of the film, including pre-production, direction, stunts, visual effects, make-up, audio commentary, deleted scenes, storyboards and galleries, etc.... The bonus disc amounts to a few hours of extra viewing, which is actually pretty informative and insightful. With cool, animated menus, this is a great DVD edition for something of a letdown film....more info
- This and JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 make a good match,
I wanted to see this movie in theatres, but it ran out too fast and we had to see CABIN FEVER. This is plenty gory, so I think there's a lot of dead heat when it comes to "which one's gorier? LAND OF THE DEAD or FREDDY VS. JASON?". I don't see how they would make FREDDY VS. JASON UNRATED. Except if there were MORE gore, and MORE nudity. If they do make one, I'm heading straight for it. Coulda been more of those, I guess. Either way, it's great....more info
- Almost as good as I hoped, and that's high praise
I'll start out by saying that I'm a huge freddy krueger fan. Since I was like 8 or 9, I think he's one of THE great literary characters, on film or not, he is terror made tangible with a nasty sense of humor. I only recently got a chance to watch the Jason movies (of which 6 is my favorite).
The plot is great. It's not too deep, but it's an excellent way to bring the two slasher icons together at last, which I'm sure is no easy feat. The acting is actually pretty good, dispite the large quantities of throwaway characters and lame dialog. The actors sell it nonetheless, which is a credit to them. My favorite thing about the movie is the way they blended the cliches of both series together, almost too neatly. Remember though, all this is really just one big deus ex machina to get to what this movie is really about, the fight scenes between Jason and Freddy.
Which are SPECTACULAR. I love the approach they had to the fights. Very brutal combat instead of lithe martial arts or some nonsense. Just bashing and slashing. My favorite bit is when Jason throws freddy through a window, and while he's lying there on the broken glass of the window pane he drags freddy through the wall breaking all the support beams and such.OUCH!
If you're a fan of either series or just like a good action movie buy this now. It's not perfect, but it's better than you might expect....more info
- HARDCORE FANS WE GOT WHAT WE WHERE EXPECTING
IM A BIG FAN OF SLASHER MOVIES FROM THE 80'S I LOVE FREDDY, FOR ME HE IS THE BEST HORROR ICON EVER (thats mi opinion) WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE MAKING OF FREDDY VS JASON I WAS VERY EXCITED BUT VERY AFFRAID AT THE SAME TIME BECAUSE I THOUGHT THEY WHERE GOING TO MAKE A VERY SILLY MOVIE BUT TO MY SURPRISE IT WAS MUCH BETTER THAN I THOUGHT THEY WENT TO THE BASICS.
FOR US HARDCORE FANS OF THIS 2 ICONS THEY DID A GREAT JOB VERY WELL DONE. BUY IT ALONG WITH THE NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET BOX GREAT FOR A HORROR COLLECTOR....more info
- Great for Hardcore Fans
If you are a fan of these '80's slasher Horror Favorites, then you will enjoy it just seeing Freddy and Jason together in a movie. It makes it feel like old times when Freddy was the evil master of dreams and Jason was just...well just being Jason getting his revenge on those camp counselors as usual. Great to have them back again on screen. ...more info
- A Showdown Of Epic Proportions
Fans of both A Nightmare On Elm Street and Friday The 13th had been wanting this for years. A showdown between Freddy and Jason had been planned in the past, but unfortunately due to licensing conflicts and money issues, the idea never came together. However almost 15 years after the initial idea of putting these two monster, horror movie icons together first surfaced, it final came to fruition. "Freddy Vs. Jason" is a movie that anyone who enjoyed either A Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday The 13th will enjoy. Make no mistake, there's no big plot here, no tricky story lines or anything, this movie is basically just to get these two mammoth superpowers together so they can have their ultimate showdown. However despite a lacking plot, and somewhat useless characters, Freddy Vs. Jason delivers on many different levels. Let the battle begin!
The plot is not really the main point of the movie. Like I said before, the main point of this movie is getting Freddy and Jason together so they can have their fight. The plot sees the return of both Elm Street and Crystal Lake as settings (who knew Elm Street and Crystal Lake were located so close to one another? No wonder no one wants to live there!). Freddy returns to his usual stopping grounds of Elm Street to try to once again terrorize the youth through their dreams. Unfortunately he can no longer harm any of the children in their dreams, because no one seems to be afraid of him. We quickly learn that all the children who have had incidents related to Freddy Kruger in their dreams, have been quarantined in a mental hospital, therefore removing the legend of Freddy Kruger from the minds of the youth. Freddy realizes he has to create his legend of terror all over again, but since he is stuck in the dream world, he needs someone in the living world to do his dirty work. Enter Jason. Freddy resurrects Jason, and releases him into the living world to start a killing spree, and hopefully restore the fear Freddy once held over the youth. However Jason quickly gets out of control, and begins killing everyone and everything for his own glory. After Freddy is brought into the real world via our heroine, we get the showdown we have been waiting for.
The movie is very well directed, and for the most part the actors/actresses give a solid performance. Monica Keena and Jason Ritter are favorable heroes, and do well with their roles. However the real treat is seeing Freddy and Jason together. The immortal Robert Englund returns as Freddy, and newcomer Ken Kirzinger enters to play Jason. Their performances are definitely the most memorable the movie has to offer. The fight sequences between the two are nothing short of stellar. While sometimes they get quite ridiculous (as when Freddy is launching the oxygen tanks at Jason) they are always entertaining throughout the entire film. The killings that are found in the movie are of course gruesome, yet not really scary. Most of the deaths are actually kind of funny in a twisted way. The movie has its fair share of nudity, of course showcasing a naked woman in Crystal Lake (won't they ever learn?) and in the shower. There's plenty of comic relief from the pot smoking dou that somehow finds their way into the mix, and Freddy alike. The special effects are great, particularly the fiery lake scene at the end of the movie. The soundtrack is also very good featuring the likes of Killswitch Engage, Spineshank, Hatebreed, From Autumn To Ashes, and Sevendust, all which seem to flow perfect with what the movie is going for.
While the plot may have its share of holes and ridiculous ideas, it's not a really important aspect of the movie. The best things is seeing Freddy and Jason together taking each other on finally. Fans had wanted it for years, and I don't think there could have been a better movie made for these two to star in. Plot or no plot this is one of the most entertaining installments in either series. If you were a fan of A Nightmare On Elm Street or Friday The 13th, then you will undoubtably enjoy this movie, no matter what the outcome (which I will leave for you to see of course). "Freddy Vs. Jason" delivers on many levels, and is a highlight for both franchises. Don't waste time, see this one right away....more info
This is an old-school horror...
Lots of gore, the goriest horror film I've seen in a long time. Almost comparable to the Evil Dead.
Anyway, if you like either the Nighmare on Elm Street series (I do not) or the Friday 13th series (I do) this is one one those slashers that has a small plot, but if you like the style of the others, then this movie is for you.
Also, if you like new horror films on high budgets, this is also for you.
Just dont get it expecting a classic!
Overall, a good final battle. A sequel is almost inevitable......more info
- WHO WILL WIN FREDDY OR JASON
THIS MOVIE ISN'T REALLY SCARY BUT IT HAS A PRETTY GOOD AMOUNT OF ACTION BUT IT NEEDS A LIL' BIT MORE BLOOD AND GORE. THIS MOVIE TOOK PLACE IN VANCOUVER,CANADA. THIS MOVIE IS ABOUT 2 OF THE MOST POPULAR HORROR KILLERS EVER. THE MOVIE STARTS OUT WHEN FREDDY HAS TO WAKE JASON UP TO GO TO ELM STREET AND START KILLING PEOPLE SO THAT THEY THINK IT IS FREDDY BECAUSE FREDDY IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH BUT THEN THEY THINK THAT FREDDY IS BACK SO THEY START DREAMING ABOUT HIM AND THEN HE GETS STRONG ENOUGH BUT NOW HE HAS GOT A PROBLEM HE HAS TO FIND OUT HOW TO TAKE JASON DOWN SO HE GOES TO THE ONLY PLACE TO KILL HIM CRYSTAL, LAKE.... THAT IS ALL I WILL SAY DON'T WANT TO GIVE IT ALL AWAY

- King Kong vs Godzilla - slasher movie style ! Freddy vs Jason is above average.
Sort of a gore fans' version of what King Kong vs Godzilla is to monster movie fans.
For what this movie is, a violent slasher movie of epic proportions - the meeting and greeting and beating of two slasher icons. Freddy vs Jason to me was really entertaining. That is all this is meant to do, it is for fans of the gore and slasher genre & watching these two bloody each other up. These movies don't need a heavy plot or deep characters or love interests, they are just for violence fans. Characters are just there to be fed to the real stars, Freddy and Jason. I enjoyed the blood bath fight scenes between the two and the action to me was satisfactory. As far as acting & plot - well these movies really aren't specializing in that aspect. These are for gore, violence & this case 2 horror icons going at it with a stab here and a slash there. Better than average in my opinion. I enjoyed this than most of the other Jason/Friday the 13th films and I am not really into the Elm Street series, but put the two together and I really liked it. The DVD is really a treat for this movie..well worth owning....more info

If you love A Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th, or both, you'll definitely love Freddy Vs. Jason! I love the awesome fighting sequences between them. - HORROR ICONS COLLIDE
Fans of the NIGHTMNARE ON ELM STREET and FRIDAY THE 13TH MOVIES have long waited for their respective leads to face off in battle against one another. Film companies that own the rights to various characters have often held them in check, not wanting to share the wealth made by them. But now, since interest in both seems to have dwindled, they look to join the duo to make more money. And that was done this weekend as the movie took over the box office. The question is, was it worth the wait?
The answer is a resounding yes. Fright film fans can rejoice in one of the best of both series. And with the success of this movie, it can't be long until Michael Myers joins in the fray (yes, talks are already under way).
The movie begins with Freddy (the returning Robert Englund) bemoaning the fact that he is no longer remembered and thus has no way to return to the world to wreak havoc. Looking of a way back, he finds Jason (Ken Kirzinger) in the bowels of Hell, resurrects him and sends him back to Elm Street to remind the folks there what terror is all about.
Jason follows instructions (given to him by his mother, actually Freddy appearing as same). He begins slaughtering teens in the house Freddy once stalked and when the police show, one young officer is chastised for mentioning Freddy's name within earshot of the teens. If not mentioned or remembered, how can he return?
That one mention snowballs and eventually the whole town remembers and discusses Freddy. Jason primarily focuses on Lori (Monica Keena) whose ex boyfriend Will (Jason Ritter) has been locked away in a mental institute from his weigh in with Freddy long ago. There with his best friend, the pair along with most of those who had contact with Freddy have been kept dreamless with the help of a test drug. Will and friend escape and set out to find and help Lori and friends from the evil they know exist.
Given strength by Jason, Freddy returns to the dream world of the teens in town and begins his assault on another of Lori's friends. But as he is about to claim her soul, she disappears when Jason kills her in the real world. The terror Freddy set free is ruining his chances to scare the world. I mean, how can he send out scares if no one is alive to dream of him? The showdown is set in motion and now it just takes time.
The teens come upon an idea to lure Freddy into the real world and let the two titans of terror face off against one another. Their plan is to do so at Camp Crystal Lake so that once, they hope, Jason finishes Freddy, they can send Jason back to the watery depths and a final rest. Yes, although he murders viciously (and with much gore), Jason sort of becomes a hero here.
Would I tell you the final outcome? No way! Just know that the movie keeps your interest throughout, setting up the final confrontation between these two. Did I say final? As anyone with any amount of horror film knowledge knows, nothing is final in a horror icon flick.
The acting is well done, with all characters appearing seamless in their roles making them quite believable. Englund has done this role over and over again and yet each time he shows why no one else could have done the part. Much to do was made of the fact that Kane Hodder (who has played Jason since number 6) was not hired to play him here. Know what? It's a guy in a mask! Kirzinger does a solid job in that function.
The movie may not be overflowing with new scares, but that's not what's expected here. What we are looking for is a decent story, a few laughs, a steady pace and a few buckets of gore. This movie delivers on all counts.
- Better Than Expected
I'm a huge fan of both Jason and Freddy, having seen all their movies since their release, and several times on video, TV (even the awful spin-off series based on each film), and DVD. It's been a long time coming, and it's finally here.
-Not a bad script at all. A little far-fetched at times, with semi-stale characters that are cardboard cutouts of what you'd expect in a horror film, but it still somehow works.
-Put aside what you know from their previous films and it works.
-Surprisingly good acting from young actors.
-Great special effects!!
-Great bonus features!!
-Nice amount of blood: not too much and not too little.
-Is ALMOST scary.
-Freddy and Jason look great!
-Much better than Jason X, Jason Goes to Hell
-No Kane Hodder as Jason : (
-Jason is (rotted) black, yet still has whisps of hair sticking out of his mask.
-((SPOILER)) Ending was good, but would liked to have seen a definite winner.
Though some of these con's are huge, it's still a good movie. Not up to caliber to Jason or Freddy standards, but considering the junk Hollywood's been pumping out recently that's supposed to be "horror," Jason Vs. Freddy isn't that bad at all....more info
- 2 HORROR ICONS PREPARE FOR BATTLE - WINNER KILLS ALL
I think that this movie was good until the end, it should have had one winner not a drawl.
I also think if their going to make a part2 to this they should add MICHAEL MYERS in to the mix on the next one.
I rate this movie a 7 from 1to10!!
- This is what i waited to see for years!
A new drug now prevents Freddy Krueger [Robert Englund] from killing the kids in their dreams on Elm Street. So, He ressurrects Jason Voorhees to assist him in killing the town's kids. But, when Jason won't step aside to let Freddy kill his victims, An inevitable showdown between the two occur. This was the only thing that was worth being made that featured these 2 guys. This movie does a great job blending Friday The 13th with Nightmare On Elm Street. Both series by this point ran out of steam as individual titles. I think the makers of this movie were clever for finally putting this movie out after years of being shelved. The climatic showdown between Freddy and Jason at the end was really well done and it truly breathed new life into both of these guys as terrifying characters. This movie was thrilling and the thrills never let up and i think that a sequel actually wouldn't hurt this spin-off. Maybe in the 2nd Freddy Vs. Jason, We can see who really wins the battle!...more info
- Perfectly Plotted - Makes Fans of Both Happy
Freddy Vs. Jason pits two of the biggest names in slasher history together. This movie works well for fans of both. It has a Nightmare on Elm Street feel but a Friday the 13th atmosphere. The plot works perfectly if you're a fan of both and it's a LOT better than the last few releases of both series.
I won't give away any of the movie but I will talk about what the DVD includes. An audio commentary from director Ronny Yu and Freddy and Jason. It also includes plenty of deleted scenes, and alternate opening AND ending, featurettes, a music video and plenty more.
If you're a fan of Freddy Krueger or Jason Voorhees, this is a must have. If you're a casual fan, it's highly recommended. Otherwise, it's worth a checking out....more info
- The man of your dreams........oh, and that Jason guy!
ok, I am very critical of the movies I see. I am 33 years old, and I felt that this film was cheesy, stupid, not scary at all with no originality and I loved every minute of it!! Yes I did, and here is why??The film was a comic book, a monster movie that didnt take itself seriously at all. The whole tone of the film lends to that. I never thought id give this piece of trash 5 stars, but the fact that everyone involved just went for the cheesy factor and knew it......It's a fun film if you go in thinkin cheesy comic because that is exactly what it is. I loved it opening day and still love it now. The final fight at the end between these 2 juggernauts is fantastic! Check this out for cheap cheesy thrills!!!!!! Youll love it....more info
The did they put two horror icons together Freddy Vs. jason. The movie was slow and hard to watch. one the real killing started it was a fun movie. Although Freddy was not really a killer more like a murderer since he killed 1 count 'em one person and Jason had like 10 or 11. The fight between these two was the most exciting part of it. Ofcourse when you have Ronny Yu directing you will have a lot of blood (ie. Bride Of Chucky. I would recoommednd this movie to hardcore Jason and Freddy fans not the casual fans cuz the movie is long and slow at times. ...more info
- Let's get ready to rumble!
In this corner, he stands 5'10" and weighs in at a crispy 180 pounds. He hails from Elm Street and is wearing the butt ugly Christmas colored sweater and glove with blades for fingers. He's Freddy Krueger. And his opponent stands 6'6" and a worm riddled 300 pounds. He hails originally from Crystal Lake and is dressed in the really ratty coveralls and hockey mask. He's Jason Vorhees. Let's get ready to rumble!
Freddy vs. Jason is a dream match-up for fans of the 80's teen slasher films. Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street are arguably the two most successful horror franchises in history. And in this movie we finally get to see the two villains together and ultimately going after each other. This is the source of many debates on the playground when we were kids, who would win in a fight with Freddy versus Jason? Both are indestructible, and this is truly a tale much like the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object.
So how do you get these two together in a storyline that even remotely makes sense? Let's forget for the moment the normal horror movie problem of resurrecting a character for one more sequel when he was killed in the previous edition of the series. The real problem here is that Freddy exists only in the dreams of the children of Elm Street while Jason swings his machete at naked teenagers who are very much awake. Although somewhat convoluted, the movie does pull it off with a story that actually works well enough. I wont spoil it though.
The film is true not only to the two monsters, but it pays homage to the style of film and story that made these two famous. No wimpy PG-13 rating here, this is a good hard R rating with big bosoms on display and blood by the bucket full. Freddy cracks his one liners, and Jason keeps coming no matter what you do to him. And the teenagers, well they keep doing stupid things as we'd expect to get themselves killed, and most of them are so obnoxious that we're pretty happy to see them go!
If you've never seen any of the original Freddy or Jason movies, stay home. This isn't the one to start with. If however, you're a child of the 80's and at least liked the first couple of movies from either or both series, then this is a movie you need to see. So does the winner get to take on Michael Myers from the Halloween series? Or do we get a rematch in a steel cage?
- pretty cool
