Customer Reviews:

  • Works well
This bike rack works well and is reasonably priced. We have only tested it with two bicycles, so I am not sure if it would work well with three. I like it at least as well as the Hollywood rack from 10 years ago that fit my other vehicle....more info
  • Great value
Excellent product for the price. Already used it a few times and it works great. Easy to assemble and install....more info
  • Do Not Buy This Product! CHIPS PAINT!!!
My Husband is a researcher, it does not matter what it is he researches everything before he buys anything. He read all the reviews and short of putting a hitch on the back of my 2006 Honda Accord (which is what we bought today)he thought this was the best product for the money. The first thing we discovered was that this bike rack does not work well at all with a spoiler. We put the top of the rack below the spoiler at first and it came loose after 10 mins on the road, so we decided to put it above the spoiler, which did not work out well either but did hold. When we returned home and took the bike rack off I have 3 pea sized chips of paint scraped off the back of my car. I will highly upset about that. This happened on the bottom part where the pads are suppose to prevent that from happening. I would not recommend anyone buy this product unless they want to touch up the paint on their car....more info
  • Well built, but can carry two bikes at the most
    - Well made, looks and feels strong
    - Fits very well on Hyundai Sonata
    - Easy to setup and remove
    - Handled one 40-pound mountain bike and a child's bike (~20 lb) very well.

    - I can't imagine how anyone can fit 3 bikes on this. There is just not enough room. May be if we remove pedals from the bikes.
    - Didn't stay intact with two heavy (35 - 40 lb) mountain bikes. Holding clamps kept moving. We had to stop and readjust 3 times during a 30-mile trip.

If your bikes are lightweight, you will be fine with this product. If you are thinking of carrying 3 heavy moutain bikes, just forget about it. You may be able to fit 3 bikes only if they are in such away that their handles and peddles don't hit each other.

The product is not so bad to warrant a return. However, its weight capacity is not mentioned anywhere and it would be very hard to carry 3 normal bikes. Hence, 3-star rating.

    Update: 3/5/2009
It was very windy when we tried to transport two light road bikes and this carrier couldn't handle the second bike! This is unbelievable. We had to stop 2 times on the highway to remount the second bike. The bike just came off the carrier and was dangling by the belt - both the times. It was scary. In all that commotion, I lost the (expensive) blinker from the other bike! It appears like this rack can handle just one bike under adverse conditions and can carry two in ideal conditions....more info
  • **Buyer Beware**Get What You Pay For!!!!
This product is definitely a reflection of its low price tag. It's hard to get a good bike rack for one bike at this price, so getting a rack at this price for 3 bikes is kind of a joke if you think you will be getting a great quality bike rack. I purchased this product with this in mind and as I suspected, the price was to good to be true to receive a great product. It gets the job done however. You will need to spend a good hour tinkering with the hookups to find a good snug fit that will keep the rack in place. If you don't mind doing some good labor, this product is fine for the price, but if you are looking for a great easy use bike rack, this is not it. Good Luck!!...more info
  • Works Great and is very sturdy
This bike rack works great and is very sturdy! It is easy to put on my car and easy to remove. I love the loops that hold the bike in place on the rack, though they are a little hard to clip on. Can't get a better bike rack for the price!...more info
  • Not bad for the price
This rack definitely can't handle 3 bikes. We have 2 mountain bikes and could not have added a third bike to the rack. Also watch out for potential scratches when mounting the rack. But it has been pretty sturdy and the bikes do not seem to move around a lot when driving. All in value not a bad rack for the price. ...more info
  • Good Product But Bad Manual
I received the product in excellent condition and quite fast (for standard shipping)! Then I tried to follow the instructions as this is my first time installing a bike rack. It is quite confusing -- especially the instruction on how to attach all the straps. Then I checked the picture in on the product box and realized what was missing in the text. Hence -1 * for this product....more info
  • Great rack. No disappointment.
I am very pleased. My bike and my wife's bike fit great. My son's bike only fits on one side but it is not the rack's fault. His bike is a bike that does not have a support bar that goes straight across. It is slanted. I suspect that I would have a challenge with his bike on any rack. No complaints. I'd recommend this rack. Great rack for the money....more info
  • Excellent Trunk Rack
Very stable. No problem with straps coming loose as others have reported elsewhere. This may be due to the way that the individual secures the loose straps. The straps do need to be tightened again after putting the load on the rack. This should be obvious. The rack will probably hold 3 bikes very tightly (as it was designed for) but I bought it for two based on recommendations. Very Pleased with purchase....more info
  • Surprised nobody has had this problem...
Overall, I like the rack but there are a couple of things I do not like. First, like one poster also mentioned, the long straps just dangle in the wind unless you use a rubber band to wrap them up with. I will probably just cut the excess off because the bands will end up breaking.

Also, I have a Trek mountain bike and I can only put it on the back (the farthest out) rungs on the rack. If I try to use the others, the pedal hits my car! (yes I tried rotating it, but it definitely hits the car) I do not need to put 3 bikes on the rack, but I definitely wanted to be able to put 2 on it but I can't figure out how this is possible. I have a Corolla so I would have thought this would not be an issue with this car.

Other than that, it stays put surprisingly well, and I am fairly content....more info
  • rack
this bike rack is fairly easy to use. doesn't weigh much and stores flat. ...more info
  • great choice, I recommend it
I'm very satisfied with this item. it might not be as fancy as the $90 ones , but its definitely as useful and efficient.

  • This rack served its purpose well.
This rack successfully made it 1,4000 miles over three days with one road bike on a 1997 Toyota Camry. It was stable and secure the whole way. I don't know if I would recommend it for heavy regular use, but for $50, it was a decent deal....more info
  • Good product
Easy to set up, good hold, carries 2 bikes. Holds up well on highway. Good price for a stable product....more info
  • Does the job, sturdy.
Have used it twice so far for short trips. Secures the bike(s) well. Don't see how I could get 3 bikes on it without destroying the trunk of my Camry; maybe it could squeeze a kid's bike in. Took a bit of juggling to get 2 adult bikes on it, but it manages. Overall a good buy for the price....more info
  • Good easy rack
It arrived with a strap missing but I called customer service at Hollywood and they sent me one by overnight AM delivery, so I was very impressed. It is definitey easy to mount on the car. Make sure you check the compatibility list, it turned out not to fit my 1992 Dodge Shadow, but did fit my wife's 2008 VW Rabbit....more info
  • Good value
Bought the Hollywood Rack to transport beach cruisers around town. I have a Chevy Blazer SUV & it fits fine on my back window. Even though the rack is made for 3 bikes I don't see how it's possible to fit all of them on there. I've never been able to get more than 2 cruisers on the rack. That would be my only complaint.

No assembly & once you figure out how the straps go it can be put on in +/- 5 mins. Also keep in mind if you have a girl's bike with a curved tube you might want to buy a cross-bar adaptor to give it a straight tube frame, will make life much easier when fitting on the rack....more info
  • Great Rack
great bike rack, fits on my Golf VW perfect, easy to use and change the settings...more info
  • great bike rack
I really like this rack. It is easy to get bikes onto and holds them well. If you alternate the way they face there is no problem getting 3 on. We usually use it for only 2 on the back of my Hyundai Elantra. The car feels like there is nothing on it and the bikes do not really obstruct the view....more info
  • Great bike rack but...
This overall is a great bike rack but I did notice when I placed more than one bike on the rack the bottom two straps tend to work loose. But it still seemed really secure even with the two bottom straps loose. I have just made it a habit that whenever I stop I check the straps. I have not noticed this problem with only one bike on it. I would totally recommend this product, for the price it is great! This rack is ready to go out of the box and really easy to install by yourself. I have a Honda Civic coupe and it fits great. I have not tried to place 3 bikes on this rack but i do see how it would be a tight fit....more info
  • Not good for an Acura RSX
Points for being sturdy and ridiculously easy to install right out of the box, but make sure you have a car on which it will fit. I didn't think to check the fit guide before purchasing because I had read that it worked just fine with hatchbacks, but it does not safely fit my Acura RSX. Definitely check the manufacturer's web site to see if this will fit your car....more info
  • Works Great
This did just what is was suppose to do. It fit 3 bikes just fine. The 3rd was a youth bike. It took a little thought to get all three on but now that we know how it's easy....more info
  • Solid rack at good price, easy to use
With the six rubber holders included with the rack, this is a breeze to secure the bikes and go. Not sure how three would fit on this however, as two had the inner bike right up against the car. Very easy to use, I am satisfied. ...more info
  • Solid
With its six straps the rack does not move. Although rated for three bikes, it is very tight. Lost some paint due to rubbing, so I am planning to pick up some pipe insulation for padding. The rubber straps did not come in the box but the helpful tech support sent a set right away. A roof or hitch rack would be better, but much more expensive. I felt safe with my new bikes on this....more info
  • Great Bike Rack
The bike rack came promptly and was everything I hoped it would be. The directions of exactly how to put it on aren't amazing, but it wasn't difficult and it held my bike securely for the entire ride. It's great!...more info
  • Be Careful - Will Scratch Your Car!
The bike rack worked fine once assembled, but I found it hard not to scratch the back of my car's trunk. When you're trying to adjust the angle of the rack or the straps, something would always inadvertenly bump or crash against my trunk. It's helpful if you have someone hold it in place while you're doing it. Also, I didn't have ties for the slack end of the straps so they were dangling wildly off the back of my car. I ended up using rubberbands to solve that one. Good car rack but I definitely will need to get my paint job fixed. ...more info
