Customer Reviews:

  • It's the worst product I have bought that actually functioned
I have struggled for some time to find settings that will work with this stupid thing. It's a third the price of competition and I guess now I know why.

Router has lots of features, but the problem is that none of them actually work and to run somewhat smoothly you have to turn most of them off.

First off, it runs UPNP by default, which is insecure and worse seems to be buggy on this router. I guess basically every setting it has by default is stupid and wrong. Including defaulting to completely insecure WEP which seems to get hacked within minutes. Also, you simply can't connect to this thing at all without some of the included software. Going through windows, it simply doesn't work, and before you realize this or if you forget you can waste a huge amount of time.

Basically, to make it work for more than one machine you have to turn of UPNP, turn off DNS relay, and reserve IP addresses in the router for each of your machines. Otherwise, it just won't run right. It constantly gives machines the same IP and more frustratingly it will be connected but you'll simply stop having it actually download anything.

I originally put this as 3 stars but after all my frustration I would change it to one if I could, but for some reason it's not letting me change the star rating. If you use p2p or want any sort of security it seems this thing just isn't stable. Even the wired access has lots of problems.

It's cheaper than the rest, but you are going to have to work much more to set it up and if you run networked games or p2p from a wireless network card of any kind you are going to have to resign yourself to having a connection that fails randomly every few hours no matter what settings you try.

  • Stay Away - Good for Browsing and Thats It!
Bought this in September for use in my apartment. It works fine when browsing but completely drops your connection if you attempt to do any heavy downloading. Turns out that this router has a 32 connection max. So, if you use bittorrent to download the latest linux distro, be prepared for your internet to cut out within 10 minutes. I have to restart the router every time this happens. Spend the extra money and get any of the other routers which allow over 200 connections....more info
  • Easy to set up, great price, works wonderfully!
After buying a new laptop loaded with Vista, I struggled to get my 5 year old router to work for days to no avail. I didn't want to spend a lot of money for a new router and decided to try this one - I'm not working right now and can't really afford a fancy $100+ model. I found it extremely quick and easy to set up, and it works like a charm. I can now get a great signal all over the house and in the few days I've owned it the router has not gone down once (my old router had to be restarted daily). Very pleased with this router!...more info
  • D-Link Router
    D-Link DIR-615 4-Port 10/100 Mbps Wireless N Router

After spending several days trying to get this router to work, I returned it because it was not compatable with AT&T DSL. I purchase a 2-wire modem from AT&T and was up and running in 20 minutes. ...more info
  • Too complicated for the novice user, not plug and play friendly
No- it does not work out of the box. DLink tech support is zero on a scale of one to ten. They claim to be in California but it's clearly somewhere in India. With a dozen calls to tech support, I received 12 different configurations, non of them worked to perfection. The DIR-615 was fast, then slow, then fast, then would just freeze up. DLink told me to call my ISP; my ISP told me to call Netgear (wireless card); Netgear told me to call my ISP; it was ridiculous. It took me a good three weeks to "finally" get it configured to a very good result on CNET's speed test. Spent one entire Saturday from 8am to 8pm on the phone, different configurations, etc. Do not use the Wireless Assistant that comes with the CD, it slows down the connection. You'll need to "bridge" your DSL modem and set up the dir-615 to pppoe. Make sure you have the correct Ip addy's and DSN's from your ISP. On my laptop, it would connect but could not browse any websites. DLink wanted me to configure my wireless card and I told them "no way". Wireless should work "anywhere" with any card. How is it that I can log on at a hotel or an airport or at Starbucks with no problem but DLink insists that I have to configure my card for my home?... BS! After surfing on the web on a different computer and reading similar connection issues I took a few suggestions and wholla, everything came together. My wireless is set to "find an ip address automatically" and not configured to what Dlink had suggested. I had a Linksys 80211b for 3 years with NOT ONE PROBLEM before it died on me and I bought the dir-615. Someone told me to give it about 3 weeks and the modem will start behaving badly again. Let's wait and see. Bottom line, the dir-615 seems to be working fine. DLink tech support sucks and I would avoid anything having to do with them. If you like to tinker and have the time, consider it a challenge. But if you want plug and play, don't buy this router. If your looking for perfection in connectivity, installation and qualified technical support, this is not the router for you. And to DLink, bring the tech jobs back to the US with good old red blooded, English speaking Americans on the other line and don't ask "what is the problem" instead say, "how may I assist you".................more info
  • Very good router
I just purchased this router and it works fine, the set-up was quick and easy, and I can easily pick up the wifi signal for my ps3 which is located upstairs and the router is located downstairs. Just remember to write down your ssid name, your password and your security key ( when pairing your ps3 to this router it will ask for your encryption key instead of security key, same thing ) I am very happy with the purchase and recommend to anyone....more info
  • D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N router
PROS---works great, excellent range, great throughput.

CONS---took a little longer to setup than I would have liked.
Have to use the CD, couldn't get it up manually. Never had a problem
setting up other brands or other D-Link models manually....more info
  • nice range
Bought this router to set up a wirelss network on a farm.As soon as we hooked it up we got a usable signal at 800'.Pretty amazing considering trees and a hill are between the gateway and the adapter on the remote pc.
Sadly the signal is about 50" short of the building we need internet access .
Was unable to connect with a G laptop but didn't have enough time to try and fix the problem....more info
  • Never worked -- twice
This router would broadcast but would never connect to the internet. D-Link was no help and had Amazon send a second one which also didn't work. Luckily Amazon helped out with an upgrade to a Linksys which has worked since day one!...more info
  • good for the price
it is a really good product, especially for the price. the only thing is i had a lot of trouble setting it up and ended up having to call tech support. they were completely helpful though and its running smoothly now. i am really good on computers so for me to have trouble with the install is unusual so be aware of that. ive had to reset it three times now too but i dont know if thats my modems fault or its. either way i would recommend it for someone with a duplex or a 2bdrm apartment....more info
  • Constant dropouts with Vonage
I bought this router to replace my old 802.11b D-Link router. Everything appeared to be working correctly but we began to have constant dropouts with our Vonage phone service. At first I didn't make the connection that it could be the router and assumed I had a technical problem with Vonage or my ISP. After working with both and changing port settings per Vonage recommendations, I continued to have dropouts during every call. Finally, I decided to try the old router on a whim. The dropouts disappeared completely. Next I tried a firmware update which did nothing to solve the problem. Then I tried putting the Vonage ATA on the DMZ - no luck again. Since then, I replaced the router with a Linksys and like my older router, it doesn't cause problems.

  • For 40 bucks, tough to beat.
Simply put, for the money, you can't beat this router. It's fast and is easily set up. I had to keep resetting my old router constantly, so I just wanted something I could plug in, set up simply and forget. This has done the trick. I've had it over a monthnwith no issues whatsoever. When I get some time to delve a little more deeply, I will do some tweaking. Till then, it's hard to touch for the money-fast, efficient, and easy to set up. what more can you ask for?...more info
  • Spend a little more money for a better product
Buyer beware! I bought one of these from a big box store when I saw the low price and wanted to upgrade my old G-class router. The setup was needlessly complex and the signal coming from the DIR-615 continually fluctuated between weak and just under maximum. I suppose I could reluctantly recommend this router for those who just do light web surfing and email, but if you need a strong, fast wireless network for gaming, large downloads, work purposes, etcetera... spend more money on a better quality router....more info
  • Works just fine as expected
works as expected.... router was easy to install with the instructions.... step by step and it works great!!...more info
  • Works Great, value for money
I have been using this router for about a month now and having no issues at all. Download speed is also great. Signal strength is also great at comparable distances. Being a experienced user, I did find setting it up little tedious compared to other routers I have used in the past. Still find it difficult to connect new devices on to the Wi-Fi network little bit cumbersome. But overall its real value for money....more info
  • So far so good!
All I can say is I got it this afternoon and getting 8 times faster wireless and wired connection than my one-year old junk WRT54G. I should note that my connection plan is not over 802.11g limits. And more interestingly, my connection speed is much more faster than what I am subscribed to pay for.

A reminder: I got hardware version B2 with firmware 2.23 and upgraded to 2.25 ...more info
  • Had two and they both are bad routers
I have 2 of these routers and both are junk. One the AP keeps failing if more than 2 wireless devices are connected too it, it causes the router to reboot. Contacted support for replacement and after 30-45 minute wait for support they had me reset it twice. and it still failed. They finally told me it was my laptop's that caused the problem. Funny because my laptops work everywhere else. The other after 3 months of working the AP log read kernel: WLAN: MLME - Disconnecting (deauth) wireless client: ffffffffffff Reason 3 and that was the end of my use of any dlink product. I have use dlink for years and there products have worked great, I will no longer use there products. I am an outsource IT provider and I will no longer recommed or install any of there products. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, IT IS A PIECE OF CRAP.D-Link DIR-615 4-Port 10/100 Mbps Wireless N Router...more info
