Product Description

"New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan presents the story of Sarah, the eldest of the extraordinary-and magical-Drake sisters, now rewritten and expanded, in this very special collector's edition. "Sarah Drake has come home." Ever since Damon Wilder sought refuge in Sea Haven, he's heard the same breathless rumor pass the lips of nearly every local in the sleepy coastal town. Even the wind seems to whisper her name-a reverie so powerfully suggestive that it carries the curious Damon to Sarah's cliff-top home, and seeks to shelter him there. But Damon has not arrived alone. A killer has tracked him to Sea Haven, and into the shadows of Drake House. But Sarah has her own secrets, and danger-as well as a desire more urgent than either has ever known-is just a whisper away..."

Customer Reviews:

  • A Mixture of Paranormal, romance & mystery
This is the first book I've read by Christine Feehan, and I wasn't quite sure what to expect - especially given the fact that it cost less than $3.00! However, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised.

"Magic in the Wind" is a combination of romance, mystery & the paranormal. It's about a man whose brilliant homeland security ideas puts him the position of being a target to an unscrupulous few, and the group of 7 sisters who use their "special powers" in an effort to save his life. It's also about the love affair that ensues between this "genius" and the eldest of the 7 sisters.

Overall, I found this book to be a page-turner and, given the fact that it's only 103 pages long, this means that it can be read in a relatively short period of time. Perfect for those who don't have a lot of reading time available.

I chose to give this book 4 stars instead of 5 because, while reading it, I felt that several areas could have been fleshed out more - I found myself wanting some additional information that just wasn't there...

If you're interested in the paranormal, and like to be entertained by both romance & mystery, than give this book/author a try. You sure can't beat the price!

  • Sarah's story -- but too brief!
I read "Oceans of Fire" first and loved it and so I bought this to read about the oldest of the seven Drake sisters. Damon Wilder has come to Sea Haven to rest and recuperate and...hide. He is a government scientist involved in developing classified defense systems. He has lived in Sea Haven for a month when the wind and townspeople begin to whisper "Sarah's back. Sarah's home" and he wonders exactly who she is.

Sarah Drake is a security expert hired to protect Damon unbeknownst to him. He is curious about her and walks/limps from his house across the way from Drake house to satisfy his curiousity in more ways than one. He is surprised to find the gate open as it was closed before Sarah came home. He walks up to the house and see the large dogs that let him pass and hears Sarah promising to look in on a teenage boy that is dying even though he wonders what she could do. Sarah is surprised to see him especially when he tells her the gate was open. The prophecy for the seven sisters says the gate will open for the one meant for the oldest. Sarah also sees Death surrounding Damon and fears for him.

Sarah's sisters Hannah, Abigail and Kate also come home and while Sarah is out approaching Damon's home to protect him, they help her with magic as there are 3 men trying to kidnap him.

As the story progresses with the inevitable romance between Damon and Sarah, I felt alot of time was spent on Jonas and Hanna when we really needed to more about what it is that Sarah has been doing as a security expert as that seemed to be left rather vague. I would love to see this story rewritten and expanded upon, but it was still an enjoyable read....more info
  • Good introduction to this author and series
I found this book to be a fun, fast read. If you are interested in books about people with psychic and paranormal abilities, then you will love this story. It is a story of a group of seven sisters who all have these abilities that they have learned to use to help others and to make them successful in their chosen careers. It shows a group of loving, happy, and independent women and, for the most part, very strong self-confident women. It is delightful and makes me want to read more about them.
I had never read anything by this author before, nor had I read any books from the paranormal romance genre; therefore, these short story books that are now popular give me a sample of authors that I am unfamiliar with and introduce me to unfamilar work. This kind of short story is good for the evenings when I want a fast read too. This story fascinated me and made me want to read all of the Drake Sister books, especially Hannah's story. Yes, I agree with other reviewers that the first book in a series would be better as a full length book that introduces all of the sisters, their family background and their individual powers and careers and maybe the author will expand on this story at a future date-- I certainly hope so! The bottom line however, is that this book made me want to read the rest of the series and it introduced me to a new favorite author. I believe that is the purpose of these short stories and I gave it 4 stars because, for me, it was successful and I now plan on buying the next 2 books in the series....more info
  • Drake Sisters - Magic in the Wind
I had read two of the Drake Sisters books and wanted to read the first one. I was disappointed with the size of the book at first, because it was very thin.

But with Feehan's usual flair, she made the book come alive with her descriptions of people, places and things. What could be just reading becomes alive in the mind and when the last page is finished, there is a certain loneliness where the characters dwelt during the reading.

I strongly recommend Christine Feehans books to men and women alike....more info

  • a lot to like as well as dislike....
I read Twilight Before Christmas first-which I really enjoyed. This book is just too short and in that respect does no justice to the characters Sarah and Damon. If it would have been longer, it would have been interesting to read more of the two's backgrounds and their career choices, and more interaction with the characters.

My biggest complaint is that the book just seemed rushed and incomplete-definately more of a introduction to the Drake sisters than a complete love story. But still fairly good and I'd suggest it for a few hours entertainment.

I DO like the fact the Feehan seems to be writing this series with the characters falling for each other early in the book-that way we can enjoy more of their relationship, instead of the usual "fight it till the last 10 pages" in most romances. I also love the interaction and fun betwwen the sisters-I'm one of five sisters myself:)

All in all-a fast, fun book. 3.5 stars:)...more info

  • Feeling shorted
If you have not read Christine Feehan's works before, she is a prolific novelist who does a successful job of mixing the two genres of romance and science fiction.

This book is the first in the series about the seven magical Drake sisters. Feehan usually does an excellent job of character development, creating a plot that has many interesting twists and turns, and stories which include sizzling sex scenes (these scenes may be too racy for some). This book, however, left me with a feeling of being slightly disappointed. Magic Wind was only 101 pages long. I have read other novels in this series and I was disappointed that Sarah, the heroine of Magic Wind, did not get a full, well developed story as did the other characters in this series.

  • Great lead in to new series
I had read Ms Feehan's other books and liked some and not others. I had passed on Oceans of Fire because of not having the first of the serie, Bought this "booklet" now I own the other 2 books. All 3 are KEEPER'S. Now waiting for the 4th sister's story....more info

  • Sadly said....awful...
Boy, this one was not worth the $2 I spent on it. Contrived. Poor development. Characters I couldn't care about. Too much of a fluff romance for my tastes. Perhaps written for a mature teen, not a mature woman....more info
  • Could have been fleshed out more, but still very good
I read this book after reading the third book in the series, so perhaps I'm not as bothered by the details that were left out because they were provided in Oceans of Fire. I agree with others that Feehan could have fleshed this out more than she did, but it stands alone fine. As long as you know how short it is before you buy it, you'll be fine--and it might be better to read it after one of the other books in the series.

As for the font, I didn't even notice it, and sometimes I won't buy a book if I think the font will give me a headache. If it had been bigger, I bet some reviewers would have complained that the publisher was trying to make the book appear longer than it was. Some people are never happy....more info
  • Magic in the Wind (Drake Sisters - Book 1) by Christine Feehan
I've enjoyed the first 5 stories about the Drake sisters, Sarah, Kate, Abby, Libby, and Hannah. Magic in the Wind is about the oldest sister Sarah and her love interest Damon Wilder. I must say, though, it wasn't enough. On one hand, as the lead into a series, I would have wanted more in the overall background for the sisters before moving into Sarah's story. And, because Sarah is such a exciting person in and of herself, I would have liked to have had more information on her professional life and how she used her abilities in her work. A more detailed Damon story would have been good --- the brief references to his past was not satisfying to the overall storyline.
Of course, on the other hand, a novella like 'Magic in the Wind' would leave some readers eager for more . . . such as 'The Twilight before Christmas' which is Kate and Matt Granite's story.
I love Christine Feehan's books, and eagerly look forward to Joley and Elle's stories. I expect these to be fabulous --- and totally satisfying!...more info
  • Drake Series Book 1
Okay this book is really just a short story it just has about a hundred pages or so. Basis of story is Damon Wilder has come to Sea Haven and everyone is talking about Sarah Drake has come home. Sarah is a secuirty expert and Damon is some kind of lab guy well the bad guys are after him and Sarah and her sisters fight back. We are introduced to all the characters for upcoming books. This was basically getting to know the charcters for the Drake Sisters series. I loved Hannah and Jonas you just know they are getting together. Four stars because romance between main characters was pretty tame for me but like I said was not a whole book so that might have something to do about it. I would suggest getting it because the other books in this series are really good and this is a good starter book. ...more info
  • Not Her Best Novel
I have read just about all of Christine Feehan's books...the Drake Sisters series is excellent as is the Dark series. This is my least favorite book out of both series. It just wasn't as compelling, suspenseful, or romantic as her other books. However, for the price, (since it is a much smaller book, page wise) it is worth the read....more info
  • Good Story but SHORT
Great story - had read it in a combo book - Frustrating when you get a very thin book and was expecting a regular size one - GREAT STORY but as usual publishers making extra money by publishing different than original....more info
  • Minstrel
I am a big fan of Ms Feehan, and I hate to give this short story a low grade, but.... To start at the beginning, The front cover sould use a bit of sprucing up. Looking at the book cover would not have drawn me to it if I had seen in at a store rather than on Amazon.
The book itself, well I feel as tho I spent 2.99 to buy what amounts to a glorified outline or first try at a story that has no mystery or advnture to it, especially to those of us who have enjoyed previous antics of the 'sisters'. Since I enjoy the author's works, I have to assume tht either her editor or publisher planned this piece of a story. We know from the beginning how the story will end. We do not see much action from the sisters. it is interesting how a whole section is left out;that being the obvious healing of the young man by one of the sisters conviently out of town. I suppose she will make it home in time to heal the patient when her turn comes to have a book.
There are so many openings for adventure and magic that are left untouched. The book is missing 200+ pages of fun and and sarcasm. Will Ms Feehan rewrite and flesh out these characters? I certainly hope so. When will shy Hannah and the bossy sherrif finally realize they are a match?.

Yes I will continue to buy and enjoy her books, but this in actuallty belongs in an anthology, not out on its own. Please, no more of this very dissaappointing style of publication, and I do not blame the author for this.

One last note; the font style and spacing are too small. Try thinking about all of us with less than perfect vision nest time....more info

There are seven sisters in the Drake family. Each of them has a magical gift. This book is the first in the series and is about the oldest, Sarah. I loved this book. It is a Christine Feehan book so of course I loved it. I love anything she writes. She is a wonderful writer....more info
