Customer Reviews:

  • hp wireless review
Great price, but does not work very well. Have to enter sometimes up to 3 times for it to print. Also, it should have a printer on feature so that you don't have to maintain your printer on 24/7. Installation was very easy,
but product does tend to act up periodically. Thanks....more info
  • Disappointed a little
I was hoping you could get two of the USB units so you could connect two computers to one printer. Other than that it is a nice addition, I would recommend if you want to alleviate cord clutter....more info
  • Wish I had purchased a wireless printer instead...
Let me first say this item set up on my computer and worked almost immediately, problem is every time I signed off my computer, the adapter kept resetting. I finally disconnected the PC adapter and rewired hard into my computer. Good news is it does still operate wirelessly from our laptops, I am just not sure if it because of the adapter itself, or the fact that my laptops are part of my wireless network. Worse of all, there is very little troubleshooting assistance online, and I gave up calling HP, because I was transferred multiple times (to multiple countries I suspect) and still never spoke with a technician who could help me. Either way, I am out the $ that could have gone into a wireless printer AND I could have saved myself the time and aggravation!!

I would not recommend this item to anyone with fair to moderate computer knowledge and experience. My rating and recommendation would have been dramatically different if I had received the technical assistance I needed....more info
  • HP Wireless Printing Upgrade
This product is very convenient and works instantly once the software is downloaded to your computer. It has great range too! I take my laptop around the house and print from other rooms easily. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because the hardware (AC adapter, and usb adapter) seem kinda bulky. I would hope that they would be more sleek and smaller. But, overall, I love the unit....more info
Piece of JUNK! The wireless upgrade will not work with WiFi, cordless phone, Bluetooth, or VPN network. Can you tell me what kind of office does not have one if not ALL of these? The intereference disconnects the wireless printer connection. And yes, before returning I thought I could try using it on my Mac - NOPE. Not compatible. 45 minutes on the phone with HP Support so that the tech could explain to me how to buy a longer phone cord - which wasn't my problem in the first place. I just don't want my USB cord draped across my office with my printer/fax sitting in the middle of the floor! Don't waste your time and money - you'll have to return it anyway. Mine is going back today!...more info

this upgrade kit hooks up easily to my hp photosmart c4100 all-in-one printer. my wireless network consist of a pc with windows xp, a laptop with vista, and a second pc also with vista. after i figured out how to hook up the 1st pc and the laptop with only one pc adapter, with the laptop i printed a test page w/o the adapter just my wifi connection it worked great. now all i need to to do is set up my 2nd pc, and i know it will work fine. i did not have to make any calls to hp tech support i just read the simple steps on the support website for hp products after i registered my upgrade kit. took a total of 15 minutes. ...more info

  • Another HP disappointment
I bought this upgrade per HP support suggestion. It is supposed to work with my HP notebook and my HP printer. After numerous hours trying to get this to work with Vista I gave up. I will NEVER buy HP again. Thanks for letting me vent....more info
  • I can clear up some of the bad reviews and questions
I read several reviews, most of the bad experiences could have been made better if HP would support and document this product correctly. This device assigns an address to your printer, similar to how each computer on a network has an address.
First you install everything according to the directions. I had to unplug and replug in the USB part that connects to the computer and the one that connects to the printer until the connection was made. Once everything is set up and installed, you need to start the advanced setup options. This is how you set the printer to have access to your other computers on the network. You have to permit it to allow other users to connect. If you have WEP or WPA (which you should if you have a wireless network for security) you need to put in the password. I suggest using WPA.
Once you do that, right click on the icon in your system tray and connect. THEN you can remove the USB device from your computer. Go to start, then printers. You should see your printer there, paused (because you took out the USB device). Right click the icon, share the printer, that gives you the shared name. Unpause it.
This allows you to browse out on other computer when you `add' a new printer. You need to put in the name (mine is hpoffice which I think is the default). Anyway, once you do this you can add the printer to other computers after installing the software on them.
I hope this helps. I can confirm, you can connect several computers to your printer using this, and you do NOT have to have the USB part plugged in to any computers, once you set everything up. Setting the device up makes it a networked device that you can access from any other networked device.
I will update this review later once I have used it a while.

  • Piece of junk
Do not buy this item. I have an hp laptop and printer, absolutely impossible to make this thing work. I think hp owes everyone who bought this an apology and money for the fruitless hours of trying to install it.I would have given it 0 stars if I could....more info
  • A waste of money
Purchased the HP wireless printing upgrade kit and it doesn't work. After installing/unstalling multiple times!

Time to take to return - time - gas and inconvenience, is just not worth it!...more info
  • has never connected properly
i purchased this product well over a year ago...over the time it has been connected to my computer it NEVER retains a connection to the printer. i have to reboot every time i want to print and lately that doesn't even work. i'd give it ZERO stars if that were an option. ...more info
  • Never did work, customer service wasted 2+ hours
I purchased this product directly from HP to work with a supposedly compatible HP printer (Officejet 7310 All-in-One). After an hour of following instructions to the letter (twice), then over TWO HOURS on chat and phone with five different idiots who either intentionally or unintentionally refused to understand that a) this product exists, b) my printer is working correctly, c) I am not calling about my printer, and d) this product is NOT working, I finally gave up and have begun the process of returning the wireless upgrade kit. The customer support was ridiculous; the chat person wasted an hour (obviously trying to handle way too many customers at once) and never even got so far as to answer a single question or recommend a single action. The phone people passed me around for another hour and a half, never comprehending the problem, let alone even beginning any form of troubleshooting. I should have known I was in trouble when they couldn't even use a spellcheck on the user guide, but still, I so wanted to believe. The problem is that the Connection Manager refuses to connect to the printer, despite my having set the laptop less than two feet from the printer, changed channels, uninstalled & reinstalled the app and drivers, etc. It sounded good, but it's a real piss off to get such unbelieveably useless customer service from such a big company. In the time I've lost just dealing with this worthless product (at least, worthless for me), let alone the days probably taken off my life from the stress of dealing with their mentally challenged "support" reps, I hate to think how many times I could've just walked over and plugged the computer into the damn printer. :-/...more info
  • good and bad
This is the second time we bought the device. The first one worked great except that it broke in just over a year. We called the HP customer service hoping maybe they could revive the device but the service really sucked. Since we liked it so much that we decided to buy it again. The second one is working great now. By the way, the price on Amazon was about 1/3 of what we would've paid at a local Circuit City. ...more info
  • Neat product but poorly documented
I'll can echo David Kight's review (Feb 18,2009) as I just installed this kit and have two desktops and one laptop accessing my printer through my LAN without need of the PC adapter. I first did the basic install on each one of my systems then followed the steps David outlined in his review. After doing the advanced setup on one of the systems all I had to do on the others was start->control panel->printers to set sharing. In operation, only one system can access the printer at a given time, that system being the last one to connect. The connection manager (CM) icon in the system tray will indicate if you are connected (Ready) or if another system is connected (Occupied by "computer's name"). Right clicking on the CM icon and selecting Connect will disconnect the other system and connect your system. I haven't tried to see what happens if the other system is in the process of printing. All in all I would give this product 5 stars if the documentation was better written....more info
  • A dowgrade Kit - Don't buy it
The product sucks, doesn't work like the marketing messages from HP, and the support services from HP are useless.

I have wasted 6 hours trying to make it work but it's really not worthed.

Buy a printer with the wireless interface already in place....more info
  • Works like a champ
I set this up for an individual user who has their own office. It was incredibly easy, and I haven't heard a single complaint. I can't speak to its effectiveness in a multi-user setting, but I highly recommend it for uncomplicated situations. ...more info
  • It Works!
I bought this kit to be able to print on my HP PSC1300 All-in-one from my laptop with Vista and my desktop which has XP. Both computers are Dells. It was pretty simple to set up (except for the fact that I couldn't find my printer driver CD and had to download the driver from the web unto my laptop :)). After using the USB PC adapter to set up both computers, I was able to remove it since it doesn't need to be permanently connected to either system. I haven't had any problems since I set it up last month.
Note: If you already have a wireless network setup (which I do), it may be easier to get this kit to work....more info
  • Excelet product very usefull
I bought this product and was easy to install, easy to use, good wide range of covering.... the only issue I is that it need AC adapter to be used, and has no swith to turn off or turn on, must to be disconected ot connected forthis purpose....more info
  • impressed
I read some of the previous reviews with a degree of scepticism particularly as there seemed to be problems when setting this up with Vista. However I went ahead and bought the product and I'm glad I did. Set it up to work on three laptops ,two on XP and one on Vista, it took no more than 30 minutes and it worked like a dream on all of them. It's still early days but on performace so far I have to rate this with 5 stars....more info
  • Worthless
This device is very inconsistant, works fine with just 1 printer and with Vista. Directions are garbage, no messages to tell what is going on, software only installs if you can access the printer. I normally like HP products but this is the worst I've ever encountered and HP just ignores your support request.

Update, after talking with a really helpful support rep at HP I got it working. It just took too many e-mails before I was put in contact with this person.

You may be able to do accomplish the same result by sharing your printer from the PC it is connected to. Nice devide if you have a printer/scanner not connected to a PC and want to share it....more info
  • HP support advised to buy this for MAC!!
I have HP Officejet AIO J4580 at home. At the shop I was told it works wirelessly with MAC . HAHA. It doesn't.
I do live in a country where sales people's knowledge of the product is: "oh its very nice for you ", so I should have known better.
After some emailing with HP support they advised me to buy the" Wireless printing upgrade kit" to make it work wirelessly, and I did mention I have a MAC. HA HA HA! It doesn't . The world seems to be full of sales people who'll tell you any lie just to make a sale.
Well HP, my fancy AIO printer is on it's way to bin, followed by the useless upgrade kit. What a waste of time and money.
I'll be waiting for Apple to come up with a very thin AIO MACBOOK that wirelessly prints, scans, faxes and whips up a cappucino while I get ready to spend some quality time at home. Anything else is just not worth the effort. MAC for president!...more info
  • HP Wireless Kit - GREAT PRODUCT!!!!
I bought a new laptop and needed to be wireless. I work across my office from the printer and getting up to "cable-up" every time was a hassel. I bought the HP Wireless Kit to work with my HP Printer and it's amazing. Installation was easy. No conflicts, no printing problems, nothing! I also bought two of these for my father's home office using two computers. He uses it with one laptop connecting to one HP printer and the other computer uses the kit with a Minolta Color Printer. Again, no problems with installation or use. You can only use ONE of these kits per computer, per printer. There is a conflict if you try to set up more than one. Other than that, I highly recommend this product to increase productivity & increase mobility and to get rid of some of those unsightly wires....more info
  • Good quality, super saving and easy setup
I just bought the HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit (Q6236A) from For [...], you cannot beat this price. The quality of the HP products are super. I have two new HP desktop computers running Windows Vista and a HP Deskjet D1455. I have no problem at all to share my printer with my two desktops. My experience is to carefully read the documentations from both the manual and the CD, which are come with the kit, first and then I have no problem to have a successful installation....more info
  • Works but annoying
This is a great little product to help clear my printer out of my kitchen where I keep my laptop. It works great. Only two negatives...One is that I can only connect one computer to the printer. (Not a big deal.) The other problem is that since I installed this on my computer, there is a program that keeps trying to install at my computer start-up. I cannot seem to get it to stop. (More annoying than anything.)...more info
