  • Takes Some Trial and Error To Get Used To
    Presto 05466 ProFry Stainless-Steel Dual-Basket Immersion-Element 12-Cup Deep Fryer
Got my fryer in this afternoon, cleaned it like the instructions and filled it with a gallon of peanut oil and set the temp to 375 degrees. Sat my kitchen timer at 15 minutes, at the about the same my timer went off the red light went off on the fryer. Re-sat my kitchen time again for 20 minutes and put the chicken in the baskets, put the lid on and left it for about 18 minutes and I got a deep fried un-godly mess in the baskets. The coating was fried so hard, I couldn't eat it and the chicken cooked only part way through. So I'll chalk it up to a first attempt (and no I am not inexperienced in frying chicken or cooking) and try it again at 325 degrees and keep an eye on it this time LOL.

Definitely nothing like the deep fryers I used to cook with at the Dairy Dinner. I don't have a Thermometer to check it with but I'd be willing to bet the temp went over the 375 mark. Can't say I'm thrilled about the two foot cord either.

I highly recommend the use of tongs, which you can also order though Amazon over long handled BBQ forks,...more info
  • Deep Fry and Job with Ease
This fryer can handle any job you throw at it. Two big baskets, oil heats up quickly. I definitly read the reviews before buying and was concerned about the oil not getting hot enough..simple soultion i do is stir up the oil when the light goes off and wait a little bit. After a few minutes i drop the baskets in and wait..the frying pretty much stirs all the oil around so it definitly keeps the oil hot while frying. I didn't give a 5 becuase it is pretty big in size and you definitly need a big storage space for it...does it warrant not getting a 5 becuase of it probably to most a no but i wasn't expecting such a big fryer, but it is well worth it....more info
  • Great fryer
This fryer beats the little fry daddy we had before! I like being able to cook all of the foods that we eat at once so that it can all be served hot. I didn't realize the volume of oil needed by looking at the picture when we purchased it, but that isn't a big deal. So far we love it....more info
From the time I received the package, I opened it up and used it right away. I was so excited to use it everyday because I enjoy cooking for my family a lot of fries, cheese sticks, fish, etc.
In today's economy,it is better to eat at home rather than spend money at the restaurants. It became a part of our cost reduction to buy this product.
I highly recommend this product because it performs like those expensive deep fryers used in first class hotels and restaurants. It takes about less than 20 minutes to heat up the oil which is set at 375 degrees F. It cooks the food evenly. I could also cook french fries and cheese sticks at the same time using the two fryers together. I feel like I'm a professional chef using it. Cleaning it is not a problem.
The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have an oil drain and filter. Aside from this, I don't have any regrets buying this product....more info
  • Great for the family!
I bought this fryer for my husband and we absolutely love it. We have a family of 6 plus the kids have friends over all the time so when it comes to dinner time - its perfect. He can fry two foods at once or just alot of the same. It is large for our countertop so once it is cool he just stores in the basement which we have no problem with. I would recommend this product. I did alot of searching and I think this is the best one especially for the price....more info
  • Thanks for the great Reviews they were very helpful
I agree with the previous review that the fryer defintely does not come up to the correct temperature but after moving the oil around it seems to work great. It does take some getting use to but I am really starting to enjoy this fryer. I found that if I put the cover on while frying chicken it comes out great. I also did some french fries and salmon and no problem the taste was good. I think the company needs to go back and look at the temperature issue but once it gets going good this fryer does a great job. Thank everyone for your review of this product because I read everyone of them before deciding to purchase and I am so glad I did. Thanks Amazon for giving us this forum I really do check out the reviews before purchasing a lot of the products that I use. ...more info

  • works great
Took away a star for a lack of safety features or easy oil storage.

Pros: Overall a great buy, stays Hot, cooks evenly, cleans easy. Is one of the biggest home use fryers available.

CONS: Needs a light to tell if its still HOT, and needs a good cover to store with oil. You have to be sure to pour it into another container after its cool. Also will need to buy a funnel/filter....more info

  • Pleased so far
I've only used this product a few times but so far I have been pleased with it. I was a little leary of getting it after reading the other reviews but I'm glad I did purchase it. I like the dual baskets but my only complaint, the reason I did not give it 5 stars, is I wish it had come with one large basket as well. I know they can be purchased but for the price it would have been nice if it had been included. Clean up is easy and it's not too heavy as I had feared given it's size. If you don't have a lot of counter space or room in a bottom cabinet to put it you might want to consider something else because it is very large. ...more info

  • Could not be made any cheaper if you tried
We purchased the previous model of this fryer in 2004. It was well built and did a great job. However the control burned out and we decided to replace it with another one. The material and construction of the new one is awful. The only thing that prevents us from returning it is that the control fits on the older model. Presto it appears no longer build quality. One can rest assured that when we need to replace the one we now have it will not be one made by Presto....more info
  • Great fryer
    Presto 05466 ProFry Stainless-Steel Dual-Basket Immersion-Element 12-Cup Deep Fryer

The break-in for our new fryer was a night of coconut shrimp, tempura veggies, onion rings, french fries. We've done jalapeno poppers and mozzarella sticks, hot wings for Superbowl Sunday, fried chicken, and it has all come out great.

The only downside is that the bin that holds the oil has sharp edges under the top lip which makes it dangerous when washing it. ...more info
  • very unhappy
We purchased this based on the Amazon ratings, despite the fact that most people say it doesn't get to optimal temps. And it certainly didn't in my case. We gave it plenty of time to heat up, and made sure the potatoes were prepared exactly as suggested. We had about 2 baking potatoes worth of fries, didn't seem like very much. As soon as we put them in, the temp dropped to 300, and it never came back up. We left the food in twice as long as recommended, but they never cooked all the way through. These were not huge, think fries either. ...more info
Great machine for the money.Easy clean up. Large 12 cup capacity, great for big group, 2 cycles fed 5 people. Time will tell on durability, but happy so far. One thing wish unit had was a temperature display, but as I stated, great unit for the $$....more info
  • Excellent fryer for the home
I bought this Presto fryer a while back and have loved it. I read all the instructions first and used a candy thermometer to make sure the unit's thermostat was accurate and it was. I had read the review on here about stirring the oil if it doesn't reach the proper temp and that worked like a charm.

I wasn't sure when I would use it again so after the first fry fest (say that three times fast) I drained and filtered the oil using a large mesh strainer with a round coffee filter. Then I poured the cleaned oil back into the original bottles that it was purchased in using a funnel I bought on here for that purpose. Norpro 5 1/2-Inch Stainless Steel Funnel with Detachable Strainer I was shocked to see that the two bottles were as full as they were when I opened them. This leads me to believe that frying at the correct temp is a lot more of a low fat choice then the conventional wisdom had me thinking.

I have fried at least 8 lbs of vegetables like cauliflower, asparagus spears, eggplant cutlets and onion rings and all were superb and much better than the old stove top way of frying. Everything cooked evenly and had that appetizing golden color but the asparagus did lose some of it's batter.

Boneless chicken thighs and haddock fillets came out excellently. It took only about one minute - maybe less - to fry the fish at 375. I don't remember how long the chicken took because I cook by sight and sound more than time. Food is nothing if not sensual.

p.s. One tip I have, actually two, is to heat the baskets in the oil before adding the food so the batter won't stick. And if you have to do a lot of onion rings don't use the baskets at all. Just gently drop them in the oil and fish them out with a Chinese spider or use long tongs....more info
  • Great fryer
Great fryer for a family, looks pretty good on the counter (takes up about the same space as a toaster oven). Perfect for my family that some love foods almost burned and others only lightly done! ...more info
  • Deep Fryer
I owned this product previously but had taken it over to a friends house to prepare Paula Deen's Deep Fried Chicken for a special get together. Well, long story short the Fryer didn't come home with us. Our friends loved the chicken and how easy it was to use and clean up the fryer they asked if could borrow it for an upcoming event they were having. It's been almost a year now and we didn't get the fryer back so my husband and I decided to let our friends keep it and we bought a new one.

Wonderful product to have if you like to deep fry and have many to feed!!!

  • fries good but other downfalls
This Fryer is very large which is what we were looking for. However we didn't realize the things that our old one had that helped alot. The lid that latches with a filter is very important, if you don't want your whole house to stink like fry oil. This has a lid that just sets on top but it doesn't filter anything. After we made fried chicken one night all of our coats that were hanging in the back room where we fry had to be washed they stunk so bad. Our back room is even separated with a swinging door but the smell filled the house and the bedrooms smelled like grease when we went to bed. Also a downfall is it is hard to drain the oil our of this one. But without the lid snaping tight on it, if you leave the oil in it, it smells all the time. Another downfall is there is no timer on it, which our other digital one had. All and all our old smaller digital fryer had many other pluses that we didn't even know were important....more info

  • Fantastic Home Deep Fryer
    Presto 05466 ProFry Stainless-Steel Dual-Basket Immersion-Element 12-Cup Deep Fryer

I love my Presto Fryer. It makes it very simple to fry more than 1 item at a time.

With the immersion element the oil is kept at the correct tempature and it has a super fast recovery.

Cleaning is a cinch, just remove the oil and the container slips right out.

I highly reccomend this to anyone that enjoys fried foods!!...more info

Have only had the ProFry for about a month, but so far I love it. Really large capacity, can fry 2 different items at one time, heats up fast. All in all it's great. Only down side: doesn't have a timer, but I just set the timer on the microwave, so no big deal. ...more info

  • Presto Performance
I have only used this unit 4 times since purchase. I needed the bulk qualities of this which has proven worthy in my book. I have only used 100% peanut oil whereas other reviews may differ. It seemed the first use was not to standards as stated in specs, etc. but following fry uses maintained temperature much better and held temperature as I had hoped it would. Have only used for french fries (1/4"), chicken and onion rings since purchase but the quantity needed, taste (using peanut oil) and expectations has met my goal (and I can be picky). Clean-up is not too bad and have purchased containers to stock used oil to make it all worthwhile. If you are looking for a deep fryer to replace the fry daddys..this one will run circles around them. Enjoy...more info
  • High Expectations, Let Down
I bought this for my boyfriend and me, and we were so excited about taking it out and using it. We made fish and chips and were very let down. We bought a separate external thermometer to see if the oil was truly calculating correctly. I had the same issues as others, it never heated above 320 when it was turned all the way up to 375. We even circulated the oil, doing this got the temp up to 340 which quickly dropped back down to 320. So when we dropped the food it, the temp would drop below 300. This was definitely not ideal frying temps and our food was really greasy.

We were let down, after purchasing almost $15.00 worth of Canola oil that we now have to figure out what to do with. (We strained it out after use and are hoping it stores alright in an airtight container). This is a large fryer and takes 5 quarts of oil.

We are returning this Fryer, perhaps it was defective. I think we are going to go the route of a thermometer on a deep pot, hopefully we'll have more control over the temp next time we want to fry something.
