Product Description

Enjoy both handsfree communication on the goo and wireless stereo music from your Bluetooth-compatible cell phone (or PDA or PC) with the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970. Enjoy excellent audio quality for stereo music and call handling with fast automatic volume adjustment and Digital Signal Processing (DSP). And when the phone rings, a glance at the display reveals the name or number of your caller, allowing you to choose to accept or reject the call. Note that Bluetooth wireless stereo music streaming requires your cell phone to have the A2DP Bluetooth profile embedded in it (see Tech Talk section below).

Listen to music and talk handsfree with the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970.
With the HBH-DS970, you can listen to more music with less chance of missing a call. The multipoint function--which connects to two wireless devices simultaneously--enables you to listen to the music files from a computer, PDA or other Bluetooth devices while remaining connected to their mobile phone, staying available for every call. Using the intuitive display hanging lightly around the neck, the phone can stay in the pocket while the user handles calls, chooses music or adjusts the volume.

Music and voice gets transmitted from your phone or device and received by the HBH-DS970 control pod, which is worn like a lanyard around your neck and which includes an LCD and controls (play/pause, changing tracks, and volume). A cord extends from the control pod to two earbud-style headphones, with the call button placed just below the left earpiece and a microphone placed below the right. Three sizes of rubber eartips are included for an optimal fit.

Tech Talk: Bluetooth Audio Streaming
Bluetooth technology uses low-powered, low-frequency radio transmission to link together two devices to exchange voice and audio as well as data such as contact info from your phonebook and photos sent to a printer. The key to unlocking the veritable Swiss Army Knife of wireless functionality is to make sure your cell phone or device includes the right Bluetooth "profiles," as not every phone has the same profiles.

For streaming stereo music from your phone to a pair of headphones, make sure it has the A2DP (or Advanced Audio Distribution) profile embedded within its specfications. To take advantage of the remote controls on this headphone, the cell phone should also have the AVRCP (Audio Video Control) profile.

This pair of headphones uses Bluetooth version 2.0, which provides faster throughput and less of a chance of buffering. To achieve these speeds, your cell phone must also have Bluetooth 2.0, but these headphones are still compatible with cell phones with Bluetooth version 1.2.

Features:
  • Stream stereo music wirelessly from your Bluetooth-enabled cell phone and talk handsfree
  • Two rubber-capped earbuds connect to lanyard-style control pod
  • Control pod's display reveals the name or number of your caller
  • Walk into a noisy environment and the volume adjusts automatically in less than a second.
  • Requires that your cell phone have the A2DP Bluetooth stereo music streaming profile

  • Sony Ericsson Bluetooh headset HBH-DS970
The sound of the bluetooth headset just cannot compare with the wired headset that came with my sony handphone W760i. Tinny and distorted. ...more info

the product has very nice accessories go with it. However, the case is a little bit too big....more info
  • Good for bluetooth - ok for music
I was expecting a little more out of this headset. I mean bluetooth conection and all displays work great with my K-790. I got caller ID with Name and freedom from something in my ear at all times. With my BlackBerry I only get caller ID number - no name - so it kinda sucks.
For music - there's definitely not enough Bass. Overall good quality for bluetooth headset for talking and listening - so so on music playback....more info
  • Sound is fine for my ears but product design unworkable
I sought out a2dp headphones and have owned this product for a month or two and use it with a Treo 680.
    (1) Never had a "necklace" style bluetooth and, while I'm trying to get used to it, the little plastic pieces that make the "rope" into a necklace BROKE.
    (2) The thing keeps shutting itself off after 5 minutes of use -- enough to make me want to return it. JUST AFTER the 30-day return policy.
    (3) Even after adjusting the earbuds to fit, they fall out of my ears after 5 minutes.

  • Great!
These head phones work great. These other reviews are complaining about the low power Bluetooth signal. This has nothing to do with Sony, it's your crappy cell phones.

These really sound good, in contrast to some other reviewers, i find the bass very good. You also might need to adjust the setting on the music output, i.e. your phones mp3 player to adjust the treble and bass.

I really love these bad boys, and they work for over 6 hours before I have to charge them. The trick is finding the hidden on/off button, as they do not turn off by them self.

Also, the phone feature works great. All the people I've talked to on the other end say the voice quality is great.

  • Great unit in a unique package
I've used this with two phones now, and it works well with both. My current is the LG VX8350 and it connects and works with no problem. The stereo sound is great and the earbuds are very comfortable. The charger is light (contrary to a previous reviewer) but its always a hassle to carry a charger. The unit lives up to the 6 hour talk time (about the same for music listening) so I can't complain even though I wish for a longer battery life. There are more than 6 hours in my days....more info
  • good for mp3, mediocre for telephone
My friends complained when I used this as a phone headset. I could hear fine, but they didn't like the call quality. ...more info
