About Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

  • Upright exercise bike with eight levels of computer controlled, magnetic eddy current resistance
  • Six preset programs provide workout variety
  • Handlebars are adjustable to suit your riding position
  • Contact grip heart rate sensors enable you to monitor your fitness level
  • 36.5 by 20.5-inch footprint; 300-pound weight capacity

Customer Reviews:

  • Product was inadequate......
When I received the package the box looked fine, until I opened it.
The bike had a big hole and it was cracked. I never had a complaint before about the products I received from Amazon. Schwinn Active 10 Series Upright Exercise Bike
The bike was inexpensive but still, I didn't expect a broken bike. ...more info
  • Good basic exercise
As detailed in many reviews, item arrived with box falling apart. Computer controller did not work. Contacted (Schwinn) customer service and they sent replacement computer and transformer. Okay now. Fairly easy assembly....more info
  • Good so far
This is the first time buying an exercise bike for me, and I wanted to make sure that my bike is of good quality. So far, this seems to be the case with my Schwinn 101. I was a little hesitant at first, because some of the reviews seemed negative. However, much of the criticism comes from the poor packaging and shipping, not from the mechanics of the bike itself.

Because I actually bought mine from a local store (for cheaper than the Amazon price), I was able to circumvent the shipping problems. Plus, the local store guys assured me that I could bring it right back if anything was damaged (the packaging was kind of flimsy) or missing. So I would recommend that if anyone is considering buying this bike to try getting it locally. It could save so many hassles.

Set up seemed easy enough (my husband did it for me in about 30 minutes). The bike seems sturdy and I like the sleek, simple design. For the first couple times riding it, I could hear a "ping" noise from the pedals, but I think this is gone now. I am very happy with the way the bike works (caveat: I've only had it for about 2-3 weeks)--I get some serious exercise from it. I'm impressed with how the handle bars count my pulse and the monitor display is helpful in knowing how much exercise I'm getting. Also, it's really quiet. I didn't think the water bottle holder would be a big deal, but it is! It makes hydrating so much easier, which helps me exercise better. The resistance also seems adequate. Mind you, I'm a small person without much leg muscle, but still, using one of the programmed exercises for 20 minutes kicks my butt! And the highest resistance level on these programs is 5 (out of 8 levels). All in all, I'm very happy with this bike helping me get regular exercise. ...more info
  • Poor packing and poor workmanship
I purchased this bike for the Goldbox price of $239. Placed the order on Dec. 22, and it shipped on Feb. 15. Amazon did keep me informed as to order status.

Upon arrival the box was all beat to hell. Started assembling the bike and the left shroud was cracked. Wasn't about to pack all that back up and take to UPS for return. Called up Scwinn, or Nautilus, or whoever they are, to have a new shroud shipped to me. The gal was helpful and registered the bike for me. Then she asked for the serial number, the numbnuts drilled a rivet through the first digit of the serial number, but she guessed it should be a 3 for this model. I reminded her that I would need a crank puller to pull the crank arm off in order to replace the shroud.

I went on to assemble the bike. The pins in the front panel electrical panel connector had to be straightened with needle-nose pliers. Also found the left front base cover with the moving wheel was cracked. The shrould and gear puller did arrive in a few days.

Got the bike assembled in probably twice the time it should have taken due to the cracked shroud. So far, the bike appears to be stable and quiet. Longevity is a big question due condition the bike was received in....more info
  • Damages from Shipment
It's well-priced and super easy to assemble so an ideal choice for home gym use. I read all the reviews and thought surely the company had re-thought the packaging by now since few really said anything negative about the product itself. Nope. Next call is to Schwinn to get 4 shattered plastic pieces re-sent and a new computer cable that was broken-none of these items keep it from working just fine. While the bike (just got it 2 days ago) will be great I'm sure, I can't help but wonder why 2 such reputable vendors (Schwinn and Amazon) wouldn't take these concerns more seriously....more info
  • Great Bike, Awful Shipment
I have been using this bike for a week now as a replacement for a broken bike from a different manufacturer. The bike is very smooth in operation and very quiet. No problems at all. The shipping condition is a different matter. As other reviewers have experienced the bike arrived via UPS in awful condition. I took pictures of the shipping container before I even touched it anticipating a damaged shipping claim. Upon assembly I found one piece completely destroyed - the end cap to the rear support tube. So, the bike is functional and Schwinn has promised to send me a replacement support tube cap. Anyway, so far I do like the bike a lot and the purchase was well worth it....more info
  • Sturdy and quiet (but needs a better seat)
This is a terrific bike for the price -- assembly was simple, and the finished product is virtually silent. We had a minor issue with a "thump thump" from one of the pedals, but it turned out to need to be really, REALLY tight.

The seat, though, isn't the most comfortable in the world. It's a bit on the wide side (to accommodate American butts) and not padded well. Luckily, it has a standard bicycle mount, so you can visit your favorite bike store and replace it.

One other nit: The programs are all six minutes long. Five would have been more convenient if you like to do a round-number workout. I like to do 20 minutes, so it's 18 + some. Still, it's a minor thing in an otherwise well-made product....more info
  • Assembly tools cause woes.
As a frequent purchaser of put-it-together-yourself items, I find that tools included for these items are usually cheap devices of a pressed metal variety. So, when I opened my horribly mangled box, I was not surprised at the lack of good solid tools included. Trying each tool once and noting the considerable wear on the tools each time I turned a nut or tightened a screw, I quickly scrounged in my local tool box and produced hearty tools that easily completed the job.

It took 1 hour to put the bike together myself and except for the lack of good tools the other components that came in the mangled and holey box, were of solid design. It is whisper quiet while in use and the bike has a fairly small space requirement. The seat was a little hard, but supportive, if you don't like hard seats you should order a seat cover.

If you purchase this bike keep in mind that you should have some good tools and a minimal understanding of bikes in general....more info
  • Great Bike
This is a great bike and you can't beat the price. You can get a really good workout with the different levels of resistance and the pre programmed workouts. Also this bike is silent while in use, literally! I live in an apartment and do not have to worry about waking up my neighbors while using my bike at 5:00 in the morning! I'm not sure what the deal is with the packaging, but when it arrived there were 2 big holes in the box, but all of the parts were there. I think the company is aware of what's happening during shipping now so all of the little pieces were secured to a piece of cardboard with plastic covering and the larger pieces were boxed together. I have had this bike for 2 months now and I'm very happy with this purchase....more info
  • Great Item and fast delivery
We ordered the bike on 12-20 and it arrived 12-23. The Schwinn 101 is simple to assemble and works great.Wife needed bike as snow & icy weather prevents using regular bike outside. Both my wife & son used it right away and got great workouts. Bike is totally quiet and well built. The box it came in was damaged with several holes, but everything was intact. This was my first order on Amazon and it was excellent.Highly recommended and very happy with product and order....more info
  • Great Beginner Bike!
I purchased this bike a couple of months back and have been very satisfied with it. The bike arrived quickly and, despite all of the reviews here, in very good condition. All of the parts were accounted for and none were damaged. The bike itself was fairly easy to assemble, although I did use some tools of my own to speed up the process. When in use, the bike is nearly silent. Also, the bike is small enough to fit into my one-bedroom apartment with ease while still feeling very solid. I have not experienced any problems with it and have been using it every other day for a little over a month. One of the only drawbacks I've noticed is a limited selection of preset routines in the bike's computer and several of them are very similar. However, for the price, this is an excellent purchase and I would recommend it to anyone looking to get an affordable upright bike....more info
