Product Description

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie smolder in one of the most anticipated, sizzling action films ever made. After five (or six) years of vanilla-wedded bliss, ordinary suburbanites John and Jane Smith (Pitt and Jolie) are stuck in a rut the size of the Grand Canyon?until the truth comes out! Unbeknownst to each other, they are both coolly lethal, highly paid assassins working for rival organizations. And when they discover they're each other's next target, their secret lives collide in a spicy, explosive mix of wicked comedy, pent-up passion, nonstop action and high-tech weaponry that gives an all-new meaning to "Till death do us part!"

Released amidst rumors of romance between costars Angelina Jolie and soon-to-be-divorced Brad Pitt, Mr. and Mrs. Smith offers automatic weapons and high explosives as the cure for marital boredom. The premise of this exhausting action-comedy (no relation to the 1941 Alfred Hitchcock comedy starring Carole Lombard and Robert Montgomery) is that the unhappily married Smiths (Pitt and Jolie) will improve their relationship once they discover their mutually-hidden identities as world-class assassins, but things get complicated when their secret-agency bosses order them to rub each other out. There's plenty of amusing banter in the otherwise disposable screenplay by Simon Kinberg (xXx: State of the Union, Fantastic Four), and director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) gives Pitt and Jolie a slick, glossy superstar showcase that's innocuous but certainly never boring. It could've been better, but as an action-packed summer confection, Mr. and Mrs. Smith kills two hours in high style. --Jeff Shannon

  • Many hats
When I sat down to watch this film at home, i put on my romantic comedy hat for a nice evening. But as the story progressed, I had to put on my spy hat, adventure cap, my drama hat and eventually my sonics hat. This movie has it all! Not to spoil it...but Mr. and Mrs. Smith are really Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
I did feel, that the movie was lacking in a strong political stance. I mean...where does this movie stand on current issues? This is imporatant to me, and it was not covered. 3 stars and no more....more info
  • The Tabloids Made It Famous.
As far as movies go, MR. AND MRS. SMITH is essentially an action movie containing a snippet of intrigue. However, sentiment for the film will remain high because MR. AND MRS. SMITH will always be looked upon as the film that brought stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie together (despite having probably been involved together before working on the production). The film opens with John and Jane Smith (Pitt and Jolie) discussing their life together and looking back on the rather bored domesticity they shared in the early years of their marriage. Originally they found each other attractive and compatible. But, more importantly, the marriage was a convenience for both John and Jane are top international assassins. Their relationship enters completely different territory when both John and Jane are both sent to assassinate the same target. They end up getting in each others' way and the man they were sent to assassinate gets away. They vow to get rid of the other assassin. Upon discovering that they are trying to kill each other, John and Jane have to decide whether the love they have for each other is real and worth fighting for or to keep fighting until they kill each other.

MR. AND MRS. SMITH is slightly better than the usual action flick. Much of this is because of the film's stars. As much as I hate to admit it, Brad Pitt is a decent actor and Angelina Jolie is not a terrible actress. They are both known more for their looks than their talent, but unlike many of the pretty faces that show up in movies they have some acting chops. However, looks and talent aside, the real reason that MR.AND MRS. SMITH stands out from other similar action movies is because of the chemistry between Pitt and Jolie. The weakest scenes in the movie are when their characters try to prevent each other from finding out what they really do for a living and when each of their characters "struggles" with how they feel for each other. They like each other. They like each other a lot and their passion is white smoking hot.

Not being a fan of either Pitt or Jolie, MR. AND MRS. SMITH wasn't a film I was very excited to watch. I will admit that it was slightly better than I thought it would be. The story isn't especially strong and there are some scenes that make many James Bond films seem plausible and realistic. The acting is much better than in many action flicks. I especially enjoyed Vince Vaughn's supporting role as one of John's co-workers, Eddie. Even though I know most will be drawn to the film because of either Pitt or Jolie or both, I was more impressed with the secondary actors in the film. Unfortunately, they receive very little screen time at all. Highly recommended for fans of Pitt and Jolie. If you just enjoy watching action films, you could do better, but you could also do much worse....more info
  • Mr & Mrs Smith
As for the movie's story and theme, it was good. I am writing this more to talk about the quality of the DVD. It slowed down and stopped in around half a dozen places, but restarted and continued on it's own. Overall, considering the price we paid, it was a not a bad deal....more info
  • 2 stars out of 4
    The Bottom Line:

A star vehicle and nothing more, Mr. & Mrs. Smith is reminiscent of Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief: both movies seem to feel that watching sexy stars interact is inherently interesting when all the evidence points to the contrary. ...more info

  • Classic Thriller Romance Even an Old Spy Can Love
The most important skill in spying is typing--four hours of typing for every hour of meeting, more if you have to the transcripts of a meeting with a terrorist yourself.

I say that up front so that in saying I am a former spy that loves this movie, and pull it out every couple of months for a repeat viewing (confession, I do the same the Captain Hornblower DVDs), I am not putting on airs.

This is just a great movie in every respect....more info
  • Chick flick with a twist
It starts off like a chick flick they are in therapy and you see the basic we love each other but we are miserable scenes. Then you find out that they both are assassins. Then it turns into a sexy dark comedy and action romp that never looses sight of the relationship.

The unrated version sticks more to exploring the relationship. Two examples, the scenes exploring the sparks when they meet are longer and the scene when you see them together after you find out they are both assassins is different. In the unrated version you see them both dressed for the neighbors party waiting outside the door a typical bored married couple with nothing to say to each other. In the theater release instead of this you have a shot of Angelina almost being caught in her sexy domanatrix costume. The unrated scene works better because the audience knows they have so much in common and would be connected if they only knew about their common profession.

This movie blends genres not unlike Beverly Hills Cop I and II or War of the Roses. It is well written on several levels dark humor, action and romantic comedy and it delivers well in each genre. You leave entertained and feeling like you witnessed the beginning of something spectacular.

If that is not enough you get to stare at Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt for two hours - for us it was a great date night my husband got to stare at Angelina and I got to stare at Brad. What a movie! ...more info
  • A Guilty Pleasure
I hate to say it but `Mr. & Mrs. Smith' was entertaining, to a point.

The sheer fact that anything involving Brad Pitt or and Angelina Jolie could be remotely watchable is in itself a great achievement. I cannot think of a couple on earth I hate more. OK maybe Benifer.

With decent editing, lighting and cameras which stay in focus, `Mr. & Mrs. Smith' far surpasses most films of the year.

Although the actors are pathetic, the plot is intriguing. Married assassins target each other. The first 30 minutes are a poorly edited hodgepodge of flashbacks intended to set the premise of a yuppie couple each working as assassins without the other one knowing, but which leave us totally confused. If not for the trailer's synopsis we would have no idea what the hell is going on.

The plot does start to take off when Pitt and Jolie's rival agencies target each other. This provides us with an amusing and exciting series of scenes with the two arguing while trying to blow each up via, RPGs, machine pistols, and vehicle chases.

Ultimately Pitt and Jolie Team up to take a stand against their shadow agencies. Nothing is explained as to why these intelligence franchises which put 007's Royal Navy and CTU to shame would go to such extremes to assassinate their own agents and then simply give up allowing them to live normal lives. But by the end we are not expecting too much. In fact nothing is explained as to who or what these agencies are. The only other employees we see are Vince Vaughn for some comic relief and a brief voice cameo by Keith David.

Why it worked: Well I guess you have to be a 2nd Amendment nut like me to appreciate Jolie using a pump shotgun, MP5K, and an M4 Carbine all at once to kill her husband. There are some impressive action scenes with some impressive weapons. They really like HKs. Although 9mm are out of date. The final action sequence involves the two using Glock 18s with custom nickel slides. The same kind on `24's season finale.

In conclusion, the movie is fun to a point if even a Pitt Jolie hater like me could stand them anyone can.

  • Sexy and funny movie....
This is a really fun movie. Funny, too, but also FUN. I had a great time watching this, and unlike many other drama / comedies, at every point where it could have easily become a tear-jerker, the writers broke it up with some comedy. They pull it off well, and the entire movie comes together very smoothly.

And in addition to a great story, the chemistry between Jolie and Pitt is absolutely evident ~ a perfect way to add fire to an already great story.

If you like love stories but frequently find them too sappy, or if you like action flicks but frequently get bored by gratuitous violence, you'll probably like this movie, which strikes a nice balance between both. I highly recommend it....more info
  • A lot of fun indeed, proves that not every celebrity couple produces a `Gigli'...
Despite the fact that this movie received more attention due to its stars off-screen relationship and most likely destroyed the box-office because of it, there is really no denying that on-screen these two are impeccable together. Honestly, watching them together is so natural and pleasant that if their home life is anything like their film life then I completely understand why they're together. They interact so effortlessly together, so naturally and beautifully that it transcends acting altogether. That really is the biggest draw to `Mr. & Mrs. Smith'. This is one of those cases where the actors really elevate the body of the film. `Mr. & Mrs. Smith' has is detractors, but overall this is such a fun film that those faults are easily forgiven. Angelina Jolie has never been more radiant then she is in this film (I'm telling you, I don't get the Golden Globe `Comedy/Musical' Actress snub at all!!!), and Brad Pitt has never been more charming (some may disagree, but I'm sticking with that statement for the time being). That coupled with Adam Brody and Vince Vaughn serving up some hilarious supporting performances and you get a well rounded good time.

So the movie finds our two stars in a loveless marriage if that is at all believable. The first scene has them arguing calmly before a marriage councilor. In a sense they are bored. They've been married for five or six years and within those years their lives have become so routine, so predictable that they can't stand each other. What each fails to realize is that their lives are the furthest things from routine, for they really don't know each other at all. In fact, both John and Jane Smith are assassins working for conflicting agencies, and when they are both hired to assassinate the same target they end up confronted with the truth about each other, and their marriage starts to heat up as they are instructed to take each other out.

The film's major detractor is its running length. While it is only a two hour film and that in itself may not seem like a long time, with a film of the genre it can seem to drag a bit. I know that seems odd but action films, like comedies, are generally shorter than your dramas and biopics. By the time you get to the final stretch of `Mr. & Mrs. Smith' you may feel a bit worn out, but it's only a mere few minutes away from the credits so hold in there. Aside from that minor complaint I really can't say too many bad things about this film. At times it is a bit clich¨¦d, but what film isn't these days. The acting, like I said, really makes up for any and all issues with the film. Aside from Pitt and Jolie there is Vince Vaughn who is just hysterical here as John's best friend Eddie, and Adam Brody is spot on as Benjamin Danz, a kid who may know more than he's letting on. I would have loved to see Kerry Washington used a little more than she is. Her role is really thankless, and she is so very talented.

The action sequences are great here, but obviously censored. The film's original rating was R, at least that's what I had gathered at the time of release, and that significant cuts where made (especially in that already steamy love scene) and I'm sure those cuts inched there way over into some of the violent sequences. That said, it's not anything too drastic for enjoyment. The fight/love scene in particular is so breathtakingly done that it is the immediate highlight of the film. Not that I'm an advocate for spousal abuse (lord knows I'm the farthest thing from) but that particular scene looks like a lot of fun. Anyways, moving on, the film is entertaining in just about every respect and is more than just a celebrity gossip piece. So what if this spawned the most widely talked about Hollywood romance in the history of Hollywood romances, that's the furthest thing from the point. When the dust settles and the paparazzi get their pictures (and those crazy fans get their hugs) we're left with an entertaining, enjoyable and crowd pleasing good time, and that my friends is exactly what we're looking for....more info

Everyone I talked to seemed to really like this film. I may be more likely to dislike it because I was so skeptical from the start that I would only watch it when it came on cable. Overall, the film was boring, not very funny, and even the acting fell flat.

In the end, this represents what I think are actually the worst movies: the lower level of mediocrity. It wasn't bad enough to make it campy and funny, and it wasn't good enough to truly entertain me. However, I will give it credit for being better than Crank....more info

  • New Take On the Domestics
When first exposed to "Mr & Mrs Smith", I had my doubts. First, romantic comedy is something I really don't like admitting to enjoying, (no matter how many guns they have). This movie was a pleasant surprise, and I had a real hoot watching it, (and many times since).

The humour is verbal with some very good lines, but this is also made punchier by the plethora of situational gags exploiting the contexts they are used it. Sounds dull and dry the way I say it, but what it amounts to is a complex comedy that works. The tentative questions about "how many" are given a whole new twist with the Smiths.

Pitt and Jolie have an on screen chemistry that works in most scenes. There are a couple of fizzled points, but for the most part, they really spark well and add to the laughs. Jolie's line "Are you still alive, Baby?" is a classic. Pitt once again demonstrates his ability for comedy, and Jolie also has a knack for it.

Having two enemy assassins married to each other was an inspired innovation, and it really goes off with people like Pitt and Jolie in the lead roles. Vince Vaughn still plays much the same character as in other movies such as Wedding Crashers (R-Rated Widescreen Edition) and Dodgeball - A True Underdog Story (Widescreen Edition). That sort of "I'm ok, you're ok" guy that Vaughn seems to do well with, recently.

All in all, this is a great movie. I think I may have to admit that romantic comedy may be something I like. Bummer....more info

  • Incredible star chemistry!
The great driving force of this movie is not the plot or the characters, but the two stars. This is where Hollywood succeeds matching two actors that have enormous chemistry together and placing them on the big screen. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie know what they're doing in this film, and you know they know how much to give and when to pull back. The action sequences are incredible and almost Tarantino like, all in all a popcorn bowl of fun movie watching for men and women....more info
  • Director's Cut smoother than the Original Cut
If you haven't watched the theatrical version of this movie plenty of times, you may not notice the minute changes from that version to this director's cut version.

Some of the dialogue has changed and some scenes are extended. The Bogota Dirty Dance scene has been extended, as was the War of the Roses fight and love scenes. The Dance of Death towards the end is also slightly different. Also different was the hidden lives of both Smiths weren't revealed until much later in the movie.

I truly enjoyed the original cut, but this cut cleared up some minor foibles I had w/ the first. Adam Brody's scene was cut out of the beginning, which I thought worked better for the movie because in the original his introduction went nowhere, other than his reappearance toward the end. There appeared to be a lot more character development in this version as well. Of course more Bogota scenes are dreamily sexy as was the love scene after their big marital spat.

If you're a huge Mr. & Mrs. Smith fan, I would recommend buying both the theatrical release and the Director's Cut. If you don't want to buy both, I think the Director's cut is actually better than the original.

The only part I wish was that Brad & Angie to do some of the commentary. The commentary on this disk wasn't as interesting as the Original Version dvd, because Doug Liman is constantly talking about the cost of the production which is kind of boring, I would have liked hearing more about the plot, tidbits about the sets, bloopers, more on why some scene got added or removed---anything but the cost and days of production.

As far as the Bonus disc, there are plenty of deleted scenes to enjoy. I would highly recommend getting this edition....more info

I love this movie. Sure, the ending is a letdown and there's not much depth to the movie overall, but it is simply a fun ride along the way. The Blu-Ray version looks great. I'm not big into special features, to be honest, so it doesn't bother me that the disc is rather short on special features. I do wish that this had both versions - the Director's Cut (which I've never seen) and the original theatrical version, but they've only included the original. That's the only real letdown for me....more info
  • Ain't marriage grand?
Despite being a fun and sexy romp, Mr. and Mrs. Smith will probably go down in history as the film that made Brad Pitt go from Jennifer Aniston to Angelina Jolie. Like a lot of films, the press behind it seemed to interest more people than the actual film itself, although it did a good number at the box office. While it's a bit problematic, this film wasn't designed to get your kleenex going or your mind working; it just wants to have fun and fun it has. This is the unrated edition so there's more stuff put in (or in some cases, taken out) but by and large, it's still the same rollickingly fun movie.

While in Columbia, John and Jane meet and soon a relationship blossoms and they get married. But despite being insanely attractive, they don't really get along but seeing as how they're both hired assassins for separate agencies with none the wiser about the other's "real" profession, it's a good thing. But soon they find out and want to kill each other until there's a hit put out on the 2 of them so they have to team up and survive together and maybe even fall in love, and for real this time.

Whether the meeting of the co-stars did result in the breakup of a marriage, you have to admit these 2 have huge time chemistry on-screen; so much so that the idea that their sex life is on the fritz seems almost laughable. It's also good that their acting is up to snuff and while they don't feel like completely realized characters, they more than pull it off. There's also some roles by always likable Adam Brody and scene-stealer Vince Vaughn.

The action scenes are the highlight although they're none too inventive (although, the use of the dual sliding doors on SUV's was funny) but that's what we came to see: people getting shot at in MTV-style moves. My one complaint is that certain plot elements seem dropped, like the writer didn't want to write TOO much for the movie so he just wrote the bare minimum, even if certain things don't even get explained. But then again, this is a movie meant to be a blockbuster "good times had by all" kind of movie so it's kind of hard to complain when that was the point, no?

It might not be the best action movie of that year or any year but if you ever pick it up, you might just enjoy yourself which is the whole point.

  • Please enter a title for your review
It never ceases to amaze me how many hollywood movies of the 2000s that you could reasonably expect to be at least generically entertaining turn out to be downright poorly written and/or edited. The bits of the couple talking to the marriage counsellor is like a subpar tv dramedy, and most of the actual plot is either boring or makes no sense. The two meet in a Cambodian warzone but both believe each other have innocuous American jobs? Then they're simultaneously carrying out assassinations, but telling us who they're killing or why is apparently not as important as highlighting the masterful strategies they employ to get the job done: Pitt cleverly impersonating a drunk to get his targets defences down and Jolie impersonating a dominatrix. This isn't fun, it's just dumb. After enduring those 25 minutes the movie finds it's feet with a few inventive action sequences but still leaves a trail of unanswered questions and sets character logic as an unacceptably low priority. ...more info
  • Brangelina's beginnings
It's hard to seperate yourself from this movie considering the hype it generated unwittingly. The movie itself was overshadowed by the fact that Brad Pitt had left his wife Jennifer Aniston for Angelina Jolie, his costar. They put down the rumors saying "Oh no, we're just friends". Of course, that's anything but true now. Four children, world travel, charitable causes, and one of the most hyped celebrity couples (but not annoying like Bennifer) later, we all know better. Trying to put that aside, this movie was pretty good.

Brad and Angelina play a married couple in a rut. Bored and rather unwilling to change their status as a "boring couple", they are living in the suburbs, going on with their otherwise mundane existences. What neither of them knows is that they are both assasins, working for rival groups, and one day they are hired to off each other. We see a series of events unfolding as they are off on their missions independently, then as their paths cross and realize they are not so boring after all. Strangely enough, the spark in their marriage returns and they live happily ever after. They really didn't know each other at all, did they?

It's a lightweight action movie with a lot of shooting and violence, yet not campy like some action movies past. It has a few moments of humor, but it, like their marriage in the beginning, starts of slow and boring. But, it's a fun time without being too serious. Good for some entertainment....more info
  • What a Dumb Movie
If this is an example of the projects America's highest paid actors are choosing, I have some serious concerns. There is no substance; no redeeming value of any kind here. My guess is the film is attractive to teens who either want to be Pitt and marry Jolie or vice versa. The actors mumble through the few lines and the rest is "shoot em up." Waste of time....more info
  • Mediocrity Defined
This is a very overrated movie containing a ridiculous plot and poor casting.

First, the plot (warning - contains spoilers):

The premise is beyond ludicrous. It starts off with a married couple (Mr. and Mrs. Smith) in marriage counseling due to a lack of sizzle their relationship. They have been married for 5-6 years.

As the story unfolds, one learns that they are both assassins working for rival government agencies. During their entire relationship, they have never figured out what each other does for a living in spite of the fact that when they met in Bogota, Columbia, the future Mrs. Smith was currently involved in an assassination and being sought by the police. For such skillful killers, they certainly lack situational awareness. Later on in the show, they end up targeting each other and fail to have any success (depite apparently having the combat skills of Rambo and the Steven Seagal characters combined).

    Second, the casting:

Having a pretty boy like Brad Pitt and a prissy actress like Angelina Jolie in the roles of highly skilled assassins is pretty weak.

Overall, this is a predictable movie with a lot of weaknesses. Not recommended....more info

  • Works as spectacle, but not much more
Comedy action thriller in which Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie play married couple John and Jane Smith who are unaware that they are both assassins working for rival agencies until they are ordered by their respective bosses to kill the same target (Adam Brody of The O.C. fame). Being given the same job leads to the couple discovering the truth about each other and they are then ordered by their respective bosses to kill each other, and are given 48 hours to do so. Will they obey their orders or will they remember their marriage of half a decade or so? This movie is undoubtedly entertaining, with lots of explosions, gunfights and diverting action sequences. The banter between Pitt and Jolie as they attempt to kill each other whilst still calling each other `dear' and `honey' is amusing, but ultimately director Doug Liman doesn't pack enough plot into this film to make it excellent, despite the obvious star power of Pitt and Jolie and the film's tongue-in-cheek humour. Worst of all there is a glaring plot hole towards the end of the film, such that in the final analysis this film works as spectacle, but not much more. ...more info

  • Fun, fast, parodical, full of entertainment...
I laughed and laughed and chuckled through. The movie is a mix between an action movie and a comedy about an action movie, and never takes itself too seriously--either in the action as well as the gore (non too explicit, only implied) and bedroom department. VERY FUNNY, lots of BIG weapons and bigger jokes. Brad and Angelina are fun to watch, witty, and have enough facial expressions and moments of silence to have you feel for the characters (even if they are both trained assassins...) and their being manipulated by others. It is so over the top, that it is just a delight. Actualyl saw this at the theaters when it came out and knew that I'd HAVE to get it on DVD when it was available. Am not sorry I did--I'd seen it several times and don't remember many other action movies I'd enjoyed this much...
I recommend it to anyone who likes light sarcasm, not-too-slapsticky-comedy, and good visual effects, cool twists and turns, and moments of jaw hanging action.

  • loved it!
I thought this movie was very enjoyable from the start. The on-camera chemistry between Brad and Angelina was evident and lent a lot to the believability of the movie. Who else could be a decent enough match for Laura Croft herself? Awesome premise and executed very well. It is a witty allegory of married life in contemporary America. I don't own a gun, but could totally relate! My only complaint is the `all girl' agency Mrs. Smith worked for, it was a bit too "Charlie's Angels"....more info
  • appealing, somehow
I don't know how to review this movie. It was like an action/comedy, except the funny parts weren't funny. The action parts were, however, really good and plentiful. The storyline was a bit all over the place for me to really sit there and find any solid enjoyment out of it. Yet somehow, despite the unrealistic story, something about it kept me tuned in. It must have been all the gun shooting action. Maybe I'm getting soft at my old age, or maybe there really was something special about the movie. Worth watching....more info
  • Love the movie, even better in blu-ray
I love everything about this movie. Vince Vaughn didn't have a large role but he was funny. Brad and Angelina play well off each other. The blu-ray video and audio quality were reference. The surrounds were used extensively. One of my favorite movies on blu-ray....more info
  • Mr. & Mrs. Bland
I wasn't expecting much from this movie when I caught it on HBO. I actually sat through the whole thing expecting some solid comical genius from Vince Vaughn. Surprisingly it was Brad Pitt's subtle reactions, his staccato way of saying lines that is inadvertently humorous, and childish way he performed the domestic violence scene(s) is what produced major laughs just as I was ready to change the channel. Angelina Jolie, who is perfect at playing a neurotic woman and natural vixen, seems to try too hard in this role and adds more drama to this movie whose dialogue is so bad at times you'd think it was written at the hands of borderline dropouts in a remedial high school. There is one scene where she is weeping over a glass of whiskey awaiting the death of her husband that made me throw an apple at the tv.

Vince Vaughn's character did add something to the movie but not much. His lines too seemed forced or out of place for this movie, though he was highly believable as the aging bachelor who still lives and squabbles with his mother. People who like to watch explosions and live vicariously through good looking people or who idolize Brangelina might like this movie. Otherwise, tune in for the scene where Pitt suspects his wife of poisoning his food and the one where does stylized kicks to his wife's body. Tune out for the dialoge and Angelina's many failed expressions of danger which turned out to be more of a "f**k me face" for the cameras.

  • I Actually Like the Rated Version Better
I felt this one showed more about their marriage. But the end fight scene lacked the original romance that the rated version had, simply by eliminating the background music. Its amazing what a simple music score change can do to a movie. However, this will remain one of my all time favorite movies. Sex, romance, and violence all rolled up into one. What more could a woman ask for?...more info
  • Doug Liman's commentary put me to sleep
I love love love this movie so I bought the "unrated" disc as I thought it would give me some interesting insight into the actors and the film, etc. I was so sadly disappointed! If you put the director's commentary on as your watching the film, you will literally fall asleep, he is so incredibly boring. I thought directors are great storytellers, but man, is he a drip! I could not sit through it!! Doesn't anybody look at this stuff before it's sold to the masses?!? So I turned the commentary off and watched the same dvd I could've rented from netflix. Not fair for 20 bucks!...more info
  • Good, but too predictable !
A good rollicking , fun movie ( if you like to pretend) Pitt and jolie display the good repore' that was present when they first fell "in love ".

This movie is entertaining and a good watch the first time. I bought it because I enjoyed it so much in theaters, but the second time all the suspense was gone, so definitely not a movie you can enjoy over and over again....more info
  • Short version?
My husband and I saw this movie in the theater. We both remember the movie being longer. Is this a cut version? The scene in the beginning with the dancing in the rain is super short on this DVD as is the scene with the angry sex. We were disappointed by that and no explanation on the box. Usually you get the "director's cut" longer version on DVD than in the theater. What gives? Quality was great. A fun movie....more info

  • Not what I expected
I received this video and it looked okay. No visible scratches on the back or anything recognizably wrong. However, there are spots in the dvd that will pause and not play without skipping the scene. This was very disappointing because the seller said it was fine. I hoped that they would have been able to tell me if there were any issues with it. Oh well....more info

  • Bonnie & Clyde meets True Lies
This movie was almost as entertaining as the off-screen love triangle that this movie sparked between Pitt, Jolie, and Aniston. You get a sense that Pitt and Jolie are falling in lust with each other during the making of this (who could blame them?) and that helps intensify every scene (as if it needed it). Wild and fun and stylish, the only thing that might have improved it would have been a cameo from Aniston herself. Come to think of it, she may have wanted to visit the set more often. ...more info

  • Even better the second time!!
I hadn't seen Mr. and Mrs. Smith since it was in the movie theater. I liked it but only remembered a lot of action and things blowing up. For some reason, I decided to buy it now...and was glad I waited since it says it's a collector's edition.

Watching the movie again on my own tv, there were so many parts I had forgotten. I understood more of it and liked it a lot! As crazy as their life was together, once they found out the truth about each other,I think they got along better and saw each other in a totally different way. Their chemistry was amazing...just one look and you could sense it.
In my opinion, the excitement of their lives and their likes beats any romance. ...more info

  • One thought.
Overall, the film was a good action movie for me. It was comical too, and I can't say that it's not enjoyable. However, my only thought is that there are waaay too many unnecessary deaths depicted in this movie.

I know that that's how movies are now nowadays and I'm not at all against it, but good action flicks usually justify a sub-character's death; this film doesn't feel like it does. The fact that the traditional action-flick henchmen are replaced by government agents (who are probably actually the real good guys) and are continuously killed doesn't really help comfort me as I watch them all get shot, stabbed, run over, etc. . . It would have been fun to watch if I could only imagine that all those people were mindless thugs following the orders of a main antagonist, but their actual identity and part in the story makes it uneasy for me to watch. . . Even though it's only fiction.

If you look at it from perspective, the Smiths are really just cold blooded killers. I don't care that their fighting for their survival. There's no way that justifies killing about a hundred government agents.

  • A terrible movie
I happened to watch this movie on a transatlantic flight. If I had paid money to see it in a theater I would have asked for my money back.
The premise is clever but all else is totally stupid: bullets flying everywhere, someone hit by a car, things blowing up. Nobody gets hurt.
An unfortunate showcase for two "beautiful people". ...more info
  • The War of the Roses - but without the character
Watching Mr and Mrs Smith was not unenjoyable, but I'm not sure that I would do it again. The film sadly failed to reach the excellent potential of a promising plot idea. The actors look stunning and there are some nice action scenes, but otherwise, there is little really going for it. At times I was reminded of the relationship between Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas in the War of the Roses, but that film that offered much more in terms of plot, dialogue and acting performances (even the house trashing was more enjoyable).

This film clearly it has an appeal for many people - it's just that I'm not one of them. ...more info

  • Great Movie!!!! But the extras are mediocre.
I love this movie. Its got action, sexual tention, and humor all wrapped in one! And this movie, like most, doesn't make the female lead a complete utterly helpless princess who cannot take care of herself. Angelina Jolie is great in her first comedy. And I must admit that I am a bit of a fan of the "Brangelina", so this movie is also great to see the obvious chemistry they have between each other. The disappointment that I found though, was that in this version of the DVD, the special features are not all that great. It contains some comentary, which all DVD's have and few care about, and some deleted scenes, which are not much. I expected a lot more, and they could have done more. Maybe I need to buy a "special edition" DVD in order to find the satisfaction that I crave, but I feel that they could have added a gag reel, behind the scenes (especially about the training that Brad and Angelina had to do), and other things like that.

So what I am trying to say is that buy this version of the DVD because you like the movie. Not because you like the movie and want a lot of awesome bonus features with it....more info
  • Killer Action & Comedy!
Mr. and Mrs. Smith, a suburban couple who live in a large and beautiful house on a quiet street, have been keeping a rather large secret from one another - they are both actually assassins working for rival organizations.

When the two are sent on the same job and unexpectedly discover the true nature of their respective professions, they wage war on each other, which eventually destroys the not so happy home they've been trying so hard to maintain. However, when it becomes clear that their bosses want them eliminated, they realize they have to turn to each other.

Overall, Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a mixture of very dark comedy and some well put together action sequences that deliver a well rounded movie going experience, but, there's some definite flaws here - some common sense issues, not to mention that there's no real villain - but the battle between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie - verbal and otherwise - manages to carry the picture to it's conclusion....more info
  • Who hasn't wanted to kill their spouse?
This is a great premise, explored with humor and action. Anyone who is married has gone through ups and downs in their relationship - and everyone knows marriage can be dull at times. Angelina and Brad get far more spice than they bargain for when it's revealed that they're both assassins hired to kill each other.

The dialogue is reminiscent of the old school detective movies, quick and layered with double meanings. Both leads are sleek, with sexiness oozing from their pores (as if anyone doesn't know this). Their house (the primary set) is full of "Jetson" type gadgets and enough weapons to wage a war, yet remained comfortable and tasteful (a humorous combination).

I was impressed with the stunts and car chases; however the shoot outs got to be a bit much at times. The knock down, drag out fight between the leads is comic brilliance - they really don't hold back and the result is well, as you can imagine, better than make up sex.

Vince Vaughn is memorable as an assassin living with his mother. He delivers his one liners with comic ease and leaves the rest of the cast members in his wake.

I'm sure if I wanted to probe, I'd find a few plot holes, but who would want to go and ruin such a perfect cheese. Not me, I'll take mine with a glass of wine - this movie is a keeper. I'll be watching it on many anniversaries to come.

  • Angelina and Brad's Debut
Good action, great duo! I also enjoyed Vince Vaughn's signature humor.

A married couple of five years finds their once hot romance strained from the secrets they have being keeping from each other. Both work for independent assassination organizations, and both don't know it in till the two are set up to take out one another. Watch as both go from trying to kill one another to rekindling their romance and take on the corporations to stay alive (and when I say rekindle, I mean intense action scenes filled with shootouts, fist fighting and trying to run each over with cars).

The movie is as entertaining as it is humorous. You got some great gadgets such as a knife drawers coming out of ovens, weaponry, the works. Makes it all very enjoyable to watch. Brad Pitt is pretty funny, he has the same sort of character found in his Oceans movies, witty remarks, smooth humor. Angelina Jolie's character is more organized, punctual and seductively tough. Vince Vaughn plays Brad's best friend and coworker, he adds the punch lines and the absurd remarks. They all fit their parts well, and together they make one great movie!

  • Surprisingly entertaining.
Reading the hyped descriptive language about the film, I thought that this would be yet another one of those highly predictable scripts that would have me mouthing the lines in advance of their delivery. I was wrong. While I cannot profess to be a fan of either Pitt or Jolie, I truly enjoyed this film. Yes, you have to turn off your brain a bit and ignore reality just a tad, but this flick is entertaining. The back and forth dialogue between the two principals keeps one interested, and the zeal with which the two pursued their vocational duties adds to the balance. Not for everyone due to the "shoot 'em up" scenes and romantic petting in one particular spot, but enjoyable for the rest of the family....more info

  • Not worth the time and money...
Overall a bad buy! Horrible DVD mastering with menus that never fully load and buttons that don't work. The movie has a couple of really funny extra clips in it, but nothing really "finished." The extended scenes aren't scored, which is really distracting because I couldn't stop thinking about the great "Mondo Bongo" song that should have been there during the alternate ending, et al!
Don't bother with this one... check out the Directors Cuts of "Kingdom of Heaven" (amazing!) and "King Arthur" - they're both very worthwhile....more info
  • For a good time...
Check this movie out. It's not one of those deep, inspirational movies that will make you think. This movie is just a simple, fun, action packed movie to sit and enjoy.

It has the right mix of action, comedy, and the bit of romance that is shown and needed to enhance the story. The main characters are portrayed by two people that seem to fit those characters perfectly (Pitt, Jolie) and the small role played by Vince Vaughn is just pure comedy relief at the perfect moments.

I recommend this movie for just the pure fun time it is. Yes it can seem slightly boring and drag on at times, but what movie doesn't? ...more info
