Customer Reviews:

  • It's only an upgrade... But a great sequel Nontheless!
The first one had graphics that served as decent, and often delievered better than average battles [hence the name], since instead of having pesky out of date mission objectives, now you have one, "Kill everyone on the opposing side, or control the map in outposts"

The second game offers somewhat the same thing, but...
All in all, this was a pretty good sequel to star wars battle front, but what you knew in that game, forget about it, it won't help you here.

For starters your blaster rifle doesnt exacally go straight all the time [before it gets hot],you're no longer having to look in the corner to see your ammo, now it's in your crosshare! And finally! Grenades that actually DO act like they explode! Other than these minor additions, the graphics are different. Somewhat jerky in more than just some places, but altogether... in a word: different.

The enviornments are wonderfully superb, but your little soldier, jedi, pilot, looks just slightly worse than the first game.
With new weapons and vihcles [and some carried on from the first], plus the adition of heros and villians being used by the player, this is an exelent party game that will offer a few hours of entertainment before you start noticing just how much you wish you could get the empire to battle the republic... after that thought, the rest of the expierience is a bit, lacking.

There isn't much difference between this game and the first one. With the additoon to space battles, don't get your hopes up, it really isnt all that. Since it offers the same repedative solution everytime. The space battles are not the high point in this game, the huge open maps are [you only thought geinosis was big in the first one]. The hero/villian characters are fun to use on occasin, but since the game isn't challenging against the computer, one must embrace going up against a buddy, or just simply taking the hero villian system off line [it's just too easy with the heros or villians]. I do like the addition of runing though. That is good.

The new levels arent really all that special. In fact, after playing them all once, I was already just playing the ones from the first game, they've changed them all around, but they look familiar and make one feel safe and secure [not to mention most of the familiar levels are the big ones [endor, geinosis, kamino and so on]. With the exception of corisant, and to an extent mustifar [but it does get repedativly boring after playing it twice in a row], the rest of the levels arent really worth mentioning.
Some of the vehicles make this game's graphics very jerky. But with the addition of secondary weapons on the vehicles... one doesn't notice with so many buttons to push.

With the additiong of stats, now you can become the Gerneral you always wanted to be on the star wars front line assault. You must aqquier medals and so on for varias feats of skill [inlcuding head shots with a sniper rifle, x many kills with the blaster rifle, and even x many kills with the hand gun]. This addition was very fun and the highlight of my fun time with it.

over all, this game gets a bit boring after a while [since it never gets to hard]. Sure i'm sure it's fun the first week you play it, but once you've played all the levels, you'll find yourself magnitized to three or four of them, and then get bored with that and be creative and play the other, less entertaining levels before just putting it back on the shelf for a few days.
Not a bad buy, but beware of the 50$ price tag, it might just not be worth that much to you in the end.

I give it 4 stars for being better than the average sequel, and entertaining enough. But I wont give it another just because, I didn't like the jerky graphics in spots, and the fact that its just an upgrade to the first one. ...more info
  • A Must Have!
For just under $[...], this game was superb. It is worth so much more. The game's graphics, especially the detailing and depth, is stunning. This is also a very long game. This will take you through many landscapes from the movies. The voices, music (from the movies) and sound effects are intense....more info
  • One of the best multiplayer/strategy/ anything games
This is one of the best games I have ever played. When I got SWBF1, I played it and was amazed by the amazing gameplay. Every aspect was awesome. It pleases parents because there is no cursing and it pleases kids because it's an amazing shooting game. Good graphics, gameplay, etc. Then in galactic conquest, I saw that I could have a Jedi on my side. Then I was disappointed because I couldn't be a Jedi. The game was still awesome though.

Then I got SWBF2, there are so many new and greater features. Such as: Space battles, dogfights, objectives, running, new units, being able to be a Jedi (my favorite), new vehicles, new sound, new planets, better graphics or should I say vivid graphics (in some areas, you aren't supposed to see very well), everything about it is great.

You have to complete objectives or you lose because you don't get reinforcements if you don't, some say it's bad, but it isn't at all! SWBF1 was a little easy, you kill people, yada, yada still a great game though. Now, it's more realistic, like what the troops in the movies actually had to do to survive! You cannot beat this game in one day. The are many hours of fun in this game.

    BUY IT!

  • Totally ripped off
You only got a star because it was a mandatory field.
Not only was the horrendous postage not clearly disclosed at point of sale, but the game when arrived was not compatible with Australian playstation consoles...something to do with PAL.

We have all learned the enormous advantages of shopping locally.

    Thanks for the lesson....more info
  • A great game
This is a great game. This game is very open-ended, allowing for whatever kind of gameplay you want. The different game modes aid this greatly. The modes range from capture the flag to galactic conquest. There are many maps, which means many different kinds of battles. The several classes allow a player to develop their own style as well. Finally, it is hard to be bored of this game. I have had it for several years now, and it is still my favorite game....more info
  • loved this game
love the game, it is a little slow loading in the advanced levels, a new memory card helped, also have original PS2 probably time to upgrade....more info
  • This game rocks!
Yes, I am a die-hard Star Wars fan and yes, I love a good mission-based action game so man, if this isn't the perfect game for me! It's so much fun and there's so much freedom in the game in itself! Add on to that the space missions and Wow, this game totally blows me away! Highly recommended for anyone who is a Star Wars fan, a FPS fan, or a fan of fun gameplay!...more info
  • A lot of fun...
I am typically a PC gamer and have had trouble, in the past, playing FPS games on a console game controller. This game has been such a blast to play with my son in splitscreen mode that I was able to work out my game controller issues fairly quickly and am now a lot better at moving and shooting at the same time using my left thumb to aim the gun. I like the way the training built up the complexity of the missions and I like how the individual missions have intermediate goals you can attain without having to solve the whole level at once. I also like the combination of infantry combat play and combat flying in some of the missions. I am enjoying it quite a bit!!...more info
  • Great game!
I bought Star Wars Battlefront II for my son who is 7. He never reads the instructions that come with any video games, he learns as he goes. In a couple of days he had this one down. He loves it - and has told me this several times! We limit his time on this game, otherwise he would probably play it all day. The graphics are pretty neat and the game is a lot of fun to play. If our son doesn't behave or do his chores, we do not allow him to play this game for a day or two - and that is really hard on him!!! In that way, it's a good discipline tool for parents!...more info
  • Great Game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Star Wars Battlefront II is way better then Battlefront 1. The gameplay is the biggest hit. The shooting isn't as good as Halos shooting, but the shooting is still awesome. In addition, you can zoom in with all guns now making the game much easier. The jedi modes are also fun. If you get boared of keep getting points to unlock jedis, then just go to Mos Eisly Assualt. That levels awesome. The graphics are good but the character models are bad looking. The sound is incredible. The sound of blasters, lightsabers, voiceacting, and music help bring the Star Wars feel to life. However I hate the annoying commander who keeps saying, "We've captured a command post." That guy is so annoying. The game is long and the menus are good as well. All in all, Battlefront II is a great game. Buy it!!...more info

  • One of the best Star Wars games ever made
Star Wars: Battlefront II takes everything that the first Battlefront game set up and knocks it out of the park. Addictive, death match style gameplay is what's on the menu with Battlefront II, as you choose a side and battle it out over expansive environments in the Star Wars universe, including Hoth, the Daggobbah System, Naboo, the Death Star, and more. The many modes include squad based battles and space combat, as well as goal-oriented missions and more besides. After completing certain objectives during a mission, you'll be able to play as classic Star Wars characters like Luke, Obi-Wan, Darth Vader, Yoda, and more besides. What really makes Battlefront II all the more fun is the online multiplayer and deathmatch features, which are reason enough to pick up Battlefront II. The game looks great and the controls are tight, while the game as a whole wonderfully captures the feel and tone of the Star Wars universe. All in all, Battlefront II is still worth owning for any and every gamer who likes deathmatch style gameplay, and for Star Wars fans, picking this up is a no-brainer....more info
  • Good game, but...
    BF1 = Battlefront BF2 = Battlefront II

    1. Playable Jedi/Sith/Heros? BOOYAH!!! How awesome is it to be able to thrash a lightsaber around?!
    2. The space battles are pretty cool, although they could be a bit I found myself mostly trying to figure out how in the world I was destroying other guys (including myself) without doing anything...
    3. The Rise of the Empire mission-based play is SO COOL! This is the one thing that was lacking in BF1.

    1. They left out some of the best maps from BF1.
    2. The style of play is much too...shoot-em-up for me. BF1 offers a slower play that gives me time to think instead of wondering, "How in the world did I just kill myself."
    3. The on-screen visuals that show your ammo and health level are too comfusing for me to use.
    4. You can't command your troops! That was the whole fun of BF1!
    5. I had trouble with my maps not showing enemies on the screen. I often found myself thinking I was completely safe while actually being surrounded. I also had a hard time seeing enemies on the screen without using the above-head markers, but even they would disappear at horrible times.
    6. There are only two levels of expertice to choose from, whereas in BF1, you had three.

So, basically, if you like a more hard-core game, buy BF2. If you want to really "experience" the game, buy BF1 first. It's cheaper, and personally, I was relieved to go back to the oldie-but-goodie after renting BF2....more info
  • Sweet Star Wars game!!!!!!!
I like this game a lot. It is cool that your get to play as a jedi. Two things that I didn't like too much is that some controls are different and you can't really be a sniper. Everyone sees you immedietly. I do not think that you can go prone or I just haven't figured out how to do it yet. Overall it is a really good game and there is a lot of action....more info
  • Ewok Stew
Star Wars Battlefront was a great game. This sequel to it takes all that was good in the first one and expands upon it. Sometimes it is extremely hard, but it is always fun.

There is something very cool about a battle in space where you get in your ship, board an enemy ship and start blasting away at its shields, life support systems and the like. Then go and use your rocket launcher to blow up the enemy ships in the docking area, get back aboard yours and get out of there before the entire ship is destroyed. Or steal one of their ships and blast them back to Endor with their own bombs.

Besides space battles, there is also the opportunity to play as select heroes and bad guys like Mace Windu, Yoda, the Emperor and more.

If you are a Star Wars fan and you don't have this game, you don't know what you are missing. Trust me on this, you will be satisfied....more info
  • Great sequel to BF1, but not without problems.
Battle Front is one of my favorite games of all time. When I first picked it up and put it in my ps2 I loved it. It had smoothe gameplay, clear colorful graphics, non glitched up split screen, awsome weapons units and veichles, as well plently of exciting battlefields. So what happens when I put Battle Front 2 in my ps2 expecting an improved yet same experiance? Well lets compare both titles....

    smooth gameplay
    pretty graphics
    2 battlefields per planet
    great units, weapons, and veichles
    working squad commands
    air battles on land
    lame campaign
    boring galactic conquest
    no space battles
    pathetic AI

    space battles
    episode 3 planets
    starfighter maneuvers
    awsome new charecter classes
    good campaign
    good galactic conquest
    improved AI
    hunt and ctf modes.
    chunky gameplay
    chunky glitched up splitscreen
    not as good graphics
no land air battles, with exception of Hoth
    random glitches
    missing some important battles
    some crappy campaign stories
    hardly any working squad commands
no information on your starting cp

There is some other tidbits I missed out on, but nothing important.
Overall BF2 is worth the 20 bucks, but pick up the first one, since it is stll far more addictive and includes some stuff BF2 didn't. ...more info
  • When will we see Battlefront 3?
Battlefront's 1 & 2 are two of our most heavily played PS2 games. I would even have to credit the first one for enlightening my son on the whole Star Wars universe and just how cool it could all be. Both games let you step into battle with the "grunts" who never seemed to get enough screen time in the movies for my liking. And where else can you be engaged in face-to-face combat with blasters, then jump into an X-Wing and join a dog fight?

Not to mention the fact that the games offer single player, splitscreen co-op, and on-line options. I have become so frustrated with the current trend towards single player/on-line only!!!! Did everyone suddenly start purchasing a separate game system for each member of the family so they can play on-line together?

Therefore all the more reason for a third installment using the next generation systems. Battlefront 3 on the PS3 system would have amazing possiblities. Imagine all the best features from the first two versions combined with near photo-real graphics, multiple maps for all planets, more planets, swappable weapons... How about including some of the ships we have yet to see in a Battlefront game like B-Wings or the Falcon or the numerous TIE encarnations? Is it possible to create downloads for skins on a PS3 or X-Box 360 game? If so how about new paint jobs, uniforms and armor?

If they aren't working on this, they really should be.

I love this game. I bought the Play Station 2 version for my brothe-in law, but I have it for XBOX 360, and I love it. Playing in "Instant Action" mode is great for getting out stress. You can play alone or with others and play all of the great heros of the movies. My favorites are Darth Maul and Han Solo. Great for any game and Star Wars enthusiast!...more info

This game is great. You can attack head on, sneak behind and supise, or blow them up. Play as a jedi or a tooper. In Musterfar go to the base with the bridge and shoot down the contral pannle. The birdge will fall in to the lava sometimes with men on it. I've had this game since it first came out and I am still not sick of it. I think anyone that enjoys the Halo multiplayer would enjoy this game. Lucasarts improved just about everything you can think of from the first Battlefront. The story mode and galactic conquest (strategy mode) are excellent additions to the basic Battlefront where you simply take over bases and kill the enemy (but thank goodness they still kept that in this game). I do miss some of the old scenarios, but a lot of the new scenarios are really good and the new controls make Battlefront II totally worth playing. I love the improved controls, new characters, and the new space battles. The ability to sprint is an ingenious addition. In most games you can walk, or run. In this game the characters have the ability to run very fast by sprinting. They can also kneel, lay, dive, and roll. I hope all future action games adopt this. I do wish the characters had the ability to punch someone, after all they can do just about everything else. The ability to change your character at bases you control is a nice addition. Engineers with the ability to repair things or take over occupied enemy vehicles is great. There is a nice array of weapons and the ability to play as specialized characters such as Darth Vader or Boba Fett is awesome. The space battles are really fun, except when you board the enemy ship there is only limited areas that you have access to. The graphics are great in HD.

    ability to sprint
    change characters at bases
engineers that repair things and steal enemy vehicles
    multiple scenarios
    a lot of characters
    play as specialty characters (jedi)
    space battles
multiple playing options (strategy mode, story mode, and basic Battlefront mode)

characters don't have the ability to punch someone
boarding an enemy ship in a space battle has very limited access to the enemy ship
Some of the fun scenarios from the first Battlefront are not in this one

The option of flying multiple ships, playing multiple characters, using turrets in both space battles and regular battles, and all of the multiple things your characters can do make this game worth playing....more info

  • A definite upgrade from Part 1
The best feature I must say, above the familiar terrains featured in the latest first 3 parts of the Star Wars series (Corrusant, etc.) & trainable soldiers/robot droids (whether you're for the Jedi or the Empire) is the playable Jedi/Empire heroes. Being Yoda or Boba Fett was never this much fun.

The space battles are intriguing as well. Nothing like sabotaging a Star Destroyer from the inside. For the right USED price, this is worth the investment....more info
  • One of the best
I think Star Wars Battlefront 2 is in some ways better than BF1.
The goods and the bads are stated below.

    The Good

    The graphics are better
    There are space battles
    There are more senarios
    You have better weapons
    You can play as Jedi/Sith

    The Bad

You can't fly ships in the atmosphere
Guns overheated quicker and stay overheated longer

Over all BF2 is one of the best Star Wars games ever made.

cons:The Bothans cloaking device doesnt work, the campaighn mode only has two armies and stops at the battle of hoth, and it left out the phantom menace and attack of the clones battles....more info

This game is awesome. I can explore all the fun of the movies and some battles not shown in the films. Be a sniper, be a pilot, anything! Instant action is the pinnacle of SWBII because you can play any battle and choose who to fight for. And there's different modes like CTF. My favorite things is 1 flag CTF on hoth. Anyway, this game rocks!...more info
  • Much Better Than The First
The second Battlefront is much better than the first. First off. You get to play as Jedi, which is really fun. You can also play as other characters, such as Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Han Solo, and much more depending on which side your on, Rebels, or Empire. Second. You get to play in space. It's real fun, but I find it much harder than when you play on foot. Third. It has a much better story. Instead of going around, planet, to planet doing the objectives, which is what the first Battlefront did. This time, your part of the 501, the best of the best. But then Order 66 comes in, and the rest of the game is about how the Empire came to rise and fall. Fourth. You get different playable carachters. You can play as the Rebel Smuggler, who has a shotgun, and fusion cutter. The fusion cutter can now repair machines and splice into enemy vehicals. When you get to one hundred, the pilot and co-pilot fall out and can be killed. Fifth. Assasin missions are in the game. Even though there are only two, they're fun. The first is assinating the Queen of Naboo. The second is assinating the three Rebel leaders on planet Yavin. Sixth. The game seemed harder than the first Batllefront. The first one was so easy that I beat everything in the game in three days. This one was much harder. There were some levels that took me a couple of tries to beat, unlike the first one that took only about ten minutes. So all in all I thought this game was much better than the first one....more info
  • Reminds me of Halo Wars!!
Let me start by saying that this game reminds me extremly of Halo Wars! Ok now onto the review. This game pretty much covers the story lines from star wars episodes 3 through 6, from the clones and the rouge squadrons prospective. Whats cool is how you can switch between different clones or rouge's or droids, and if available a Jedi!! Cool huh? Anyways like I said in the title, the gameplay is alot like Halo Wars seek destroy complete an objective yata yata and the level is done. That simple. Now it is impossible and quote my words. to go a whole level without being killed about three times first. Its fiction just undoable. But the huge difficulty is one thing I like about this game it gives me a challenge. So i've said what I had to say, go ahead buy this game and see all the wonders that await you from the star wars universe!!...more info
  • Overall a good game
I would think that this game has a little issues like the areas that you play in are a lot smaller than the origanal star wars universe and there are a few bad gliches like when I was doing a death star flag battle I was Obi-Wan Kenobi and I had the flag and I was going for the droid's base and the control panel got blown up I jumped and I tryed to jump again and he didn't so as a result I started falling and died. But over all its a good game....more info
  • Where to start?
Star Wars Battlefront 1 became one of my all time favorite video games after the first few times I played it. Naturally, I was stoked for Battlefront 2. Unfortunately, it was a HUGE disappointment.

There are so many things LucasArts tried to do with this game that just didn't work out. The HUD on the screen is next to worthless. Everything gets in the way, the mini-map is terribly cluttered, and it only shows the total ammunition you have for each weapon, not the amount of ammo in your current magazine. This is especially frustrating, seeing as half the time I get killed it's because I have to reload in the middle of a firefight with enemy troopers.

The actual gameplay is terrible as well. Everything moves much faster in Battlefront 2, including the mounted guns and gun emplacements, which, unfortunately, are also a lot weaker and don't do much more damage than a blaster rifle. No longer can you issue orders to friendly troopers either. Sometimes I'll see a group of soldiers standing around a short ways from the battle not doing anything, and because there's no "follow me" command or "move out" command my only options are to head into battle on my own and hope my troopers join up with me later, or execute them for dereliction of duty in frustration.

One of the dumbest things in Battlefront 2 is the "goal" for each character class. For example, if you kill 6 enemies with your blaster pistol, you get an upgraded sniping pistol that does more damage than your primary weapon. A cool idea, but the dumb part about it is you have to complete each goal 6-10 times before you even get the upgrade, and after you've gotten the upgrade a certain number of times it becomes your weapon when you spawn. Basically, after you've played the game for a few days and have gotten a lot of the upgrades for good you'll be able to kill 15 or more enemies each time you spawn, no sweat. Where's the challenge?

Another negative about Battlefront 2 is the inability to play as "special classes" such as the wookie warrior, or droideka, until you've killed a certain number of enemies. The "heroes" (jedi, sith, and others) are cool at first, but even they get boring. Where regular troops have an energy meter (so they can sprint short distances!), the special characters have a Force meter. You can only push so many enemies out of the way with The Force before your jedi gets tired and has to wait for it to regenerate. What a stupid concept. Oh, and the heroes' health is measured by how many enemies you kill. In other words, every hero is a vampire. If you run into trouble and get hit by a Stormtrooper, you can get back to full health simply by slaughtering a group of enemies. Another stupid concept.

The only positives in this game are the improved enemy AI, the new maps (these are actually really cool, and would have been AMAZING in Battlefront 1), the "Capture the Flag" and "Hunt" (kill the native population exclusively in the map you choose) options for different maps, and the Magnaguard character class. Overall, a decent game... but only if you haven't had the Star Wars Battlefront 1 experience....more info

Alright here's the deal: been a Star Wars fan for awhile, play a lot of video games, but never really played a Star Wars console game before. I've read the reviews and heard about how cheesy the other Star Wars games before this one have been. A friend suggested I get the game, so I got it and now I play it whenever I can. It's that awesome!! You can be a grunt stormtrooper doing the dirty work and blasting droids, then jump in a tank and blow some more [...] up. Or fly your starfighter around, shoot some bad guys, land in their cruiser, and destroy everything inside it. Then there's the whole "be a legendary Star Wars character" option which I like too. I suggest playing every level where you can use Darth Maul. He's the MAN!!! Can't say enough about this game. Go out and get it get it get it!!! ...more info

  • The whole series now in one game!!
Number 2 is even better than number 1!
Now with more vehicles, characters and places from Ep. 3! Now you have 1#, 2#, 3#, 4#, 5# and 6# in one game!
The new characters (see my review on Battlefront 1 to see the characters you already can have) are--CIS: Engineer Droid, Magnaguard and Droid Marine.
