Product Description

Everything needed to get started is included with the DCS-950G. Simple installation procedures, along with the built-in Web-based interface offer easy integration into your network environment. Powerful surveillance software is included to enhance the monitoring and management of the DCS-950G, allowing you to archive video straight to the hard drive, playback video, monitor up to four cameras on a single screen, and set up motion detection to trigger video/audio recording and send e-mail alerts. The DCS-950G is a cost-effective and versatile security solution for your home or business. You can access and control the DCS-950G Wireless Internet Camera using Internet Explorer version 6. As you watch and listen remotely to video and sound obtained by the DCS-950G, you can take snapshots or record directly from the Web browser to a local hard drive without installing any software, making it convenient to instantly capture any moment no matter where you are.

The D-Link Securicam Network DCS-950G Wireless Internet Camera provides the ultimate in full-surveillance security performance and convenience. Using 802.11g wireless technology, the DCS-950G transfers video and audio directly to your computer, allowing you to take snapshots or record audio directly from the Web browser to a local hard drive without installing any software. Security doesn't get any more straightforward or convenient than this.

Using Internet Explorer 6.0, you can watch and listen to what the DCS-950G captures. For more recording flexibility, you can configure the camera to record to a network-attached storage (NAS), eliminating the need to set up a dedicated computer for storing recorded video.

With 0.5 lux light sensitivity, the DCS-950G is capable of capturing video in rooms with minimal lighting, making it ideal for use at night time. The DCS-950G also features a motion detector that sends e-mail alerts and triggers recording to hard drive once motion is detected. By adhering to the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) standards, computers running Windows XP/Me will recognize the DCS-950G and automatically add it to your network. The DCS-950G can then be seamlessly accessed and viewed from "My Network Places" just like any other device. A "Site Survey" tool allows users to easily find wireless networks within the range of the camera. And by signing up with one of the many free Dynamic DNS services available on the Internet, you can assign an easy-to-remember name and domain to the camera (e.g., www.mycamera.myddns.com). This allows you to remotely access your camera without having to remember the IP address, even if it has been changed by your Internet Service Provider.

Virtually everything you need to get started is included in this package. Simple installation procedures, along with the built-in Web-based interface, offer easy integration into your network environment. Powerful surveillance software is included to enhance the monitoring and management of the DCS-950G, allowing you to archive video straight to the hard drive, play back video, monitor up to four cameras on a single screen, and set up motion detection to trigger video/audio recording and send e-mail alerts. The DCS-950G is a cost-effective and versatile security solution for any home or business.

Customer Reviews:

  • Save your money!! Don't buy this camera
This camera is a piece of junk. I have upgraded to the latest firmware (1.07) and still can't get the audio to work. You'll be better off buying a trendnet or panasonic IP camera....more info
  • D-Link Securicam
These are great cameras for the price, but are never as easy to install as the instructions indicate. Plus, support comes from overseas and the support personnel are not always fluent in English making it even more difficult. This is especially true when they are using scripts to try and help you. Product very good support not so good....more info
  • Installation Software does NOT WORK!
I just received this security camera for my business and went to install the software (installation wizard) and it errors out. The installation CD is MISSING key files required for the installation to complete. I called D-Link tech support twice and was obviously speaking to Indians half way across the world who could only direct me to the support website and "keep dowloading files and installing them until it works". They have no clue! I can't believe D-Link would ship a product where you can't even install the damn software to get past STEP 1....more info
  • Wireless camera
This is a inexpensive wireless camera, I especially liked the email and motion detection features these were very useful. I do not like that the camera would lock up every couple of hours and I would have to reboot it. Other than that it is a simple camera to set up and easy to use....more info
  • Suits my needs
It is not firefox compatible, but I just use IE for webcam monitoring my pet and firefox for browsing. Firefox > explorer... The webcam range hits throughout my home except down 2 floors in the basement level which has a delay or so every 5 minutes, but besides that I get a good 30 frames per second constant which is very decent. Setting encryption compfused me at first so just to get wireless working I disabled that part, but didn't enable SSID broadcast. I eventually realized I needed to increase my router power output and presto wireless worked, then I went to[..]and copied that to my router and also the D-LINK setup and my WPA encryption worked. My webcam IP doesn't change so it is easy to login to it. 1.07 firmware update was easy, but not necessary for me.

I was interested in night security camera for monitoring outside and at .5 lux it was horribly grainy. As far as in door goes, it is excellent. I use a fluorescent bulb and the camera is 12.5 Watts so it isn't expensive to run....more info
  • Lots of headaches with this one...
The first DCS-950G camera that I received would not connect to the wired network for configuration. I had already thrown the packaging away, so the return became a real headache. The Amazon re-seller made me purchase a new camera (at a higher price) and then I sent back the old camera in that packaging (at the lower price), so I got hit with a $40 mark-up.

The replacement camera worked for a couple of weeks, but is now no longer connecting to my wireless network. I have it screwed to a wall and mounted up high, so working on the camera is a real hassle. If I had to do it over again I would not purchase this camera. When it does work, the picture is nice, and the motion detection features are cool, but only when the camera is working!...more info
  • Latest firmware (1.07) solves problems
I've had my DCS-950G camera for more than a year, and it's been a love/hate relationship. The initial camera had a wiring fault, that prevented it from operating wirelessly. The replacement camera worked, has a great picture, but wouldn't stay on-line. D-Link recently released a firmware update (1.07) that seems to have solved all the problems I've experienced. If you're having problems, update to this latest version. If this camera continues to operate as it does now, I'd rate it a "5". Good luck....more info
  • Works Great With 1.07 Firmware
I just purchased this camera and noticed upon install that new firmware is now available. Many others had posted that bugs existed in old firmware. I immediately updated the firmware with no problems - please note only to update firmware when the camera is connected to a hard wired network - do not update firmware over wireless. Since updating the firmware, I've found the camera to be very reliable, sharp image with manual focus lens, and easy to set up with dynamic dns for viewing via a regular web address via the internet. I have seen no other wireless color cameras on the market in this price range that also include audio. This is a great buy for home security, baby monitoring, remote vacation home monitoring, and other uses. Enjoy!...more info
  • Not with Vista!
I am pretty sure that having Vista caused some problems, but I am not really sure. Technical Support was no help and even suggested I return it. Went with a Lynksis instead and it works a lot better and smoother....more info
  • The CD errors out... enough said
I'm not into writing reviews, but this product is bad enough that I felt I had to. I'm an electrical engineer by trade.

So, I bought the item, and tossed the CD in. THE DAMNED CD SYNTAX ERRORS OUT. I know a few other people have mentioned this as well, but come on, D-Link... that is just lame. The software won't install.

I went to their website to download things, and the software they have is out of sync with the manual. I cannot get my computer to see my webcam, so I am stuck at step 1. (Okay, step 2, step one is "power the thing on")

D-link has lost my business. This is just sad. Releasing a product that they didn't even bother to test. They should be ashamed of themselves.

  • Poor performance
Dont waste your time. I brought this and right out the box I had issues with the camera's server. It worked for a short time then when I went to relocate it to where I really wanted it it didnt work anymore. D-Link customer service was OK. They take for ever to get to the phone....more info
  • Good Product for the price
This wireless web cam works well for the price. The only thing that needs improvement is the motion sensor using e-mail notification. It send many false motion detection....more info
  • Seller Was quick
Seller shipped ASAP and even with the "slow boat" super saver shipping I had the item in 2 days. Excellent!...more info
  • Good Camera
I think the DCS-950G wireless internet camera is a pretty good camera for the money and was easy to setup and configure. You need a basic understanding of networking in order to take advantage of all the features. For example, to access the camera remotely you need to be familiar enough with your wireless router to create port mapping between your public address (provided by your ISP) and your internal addresses provided by your wireless router. The feature I would like to see added is the ability to choose to receive an AVI or jpg file when receiving alerts. I find receiving 1MB AVI files to be a bit much when a simple snapshot would do the trick.

All in all, I would recommend this camera to anyone with basic knowledge of home networking. Video quality is very good. Upgrading the firware was easy too.

  • Difficult set up, good camera
I got this camera to watch my new puppy at home while I was at work (see customer images). The manual was short on details, the installation CD lacked workable software (download from the website), and the "24 hour help" was no help at all. But after six or so hours of setup, the camera is self-sufficient and works well wirelessly, despite my router being 100+ feet away from the camera.

Warning, if your remote computer accessing the camera blocks 5000 and 5001 ports (streaming video/audio), you won't be able to use the camera.

The camera drops off occasionally throughout the day, especially in the morning, when it is not accessible at all. The quality is good for still images and fair for moving images - a little choppy but it serves its purpose, to see if my dog is eating my cats!
