Product Description

I Spy Treasure Hunt is a great new game that takes kids on a spy adventure through a quaint seaside town.

Pirate's plunder rewards players who discover all of the hidden objects and decipher the riddles in I Spy Treasure Hunt. But there's also a bounty of booty on the path to that treasure as players discover this captivating world where closer inspection invariably reveals a new surprise.

This program is based on the award-winning I Spy books written by Jean Marzollo and photo-illustrated by Walter Wick. From the very beginning, this program immerses players, just as the books do: as a train pulls into the station in the town of Smuggler's Cove, the point-of-view is from inside the passenger car, looking out the window. Once off the train, this quaint seaside town with a secret is yours to explore. Potential riddle spots reveal themselves when a cursor sweep causes an object to respond with movement and sound. A tackle box, a deserted ruin, and a lighthouse are just a few of the 20 spots ripe for discovery. Scenes change swiftly, considering the vast amount of detail each contains. When explorers find a riddle area, a cluttered panorama appears onscreen and a child's voice reads the sentence below that always begins with the phrase "I spy...." Then players must find and click on the objects listed in the sentence. This isn't as easy as it seems; for example, finding three "fours" sounds simple, right? But the task gets complex when one numeral is hidden in the grain of a wooden tabletop, the other is written out in letters on a menu, and the third is a pair of dice showing a three and a one.

Successfully finding all the "I Spy" items in a scene yields a scrap of a treasure map. But building the map doesn't automatically reveal the treasure--that'd be out of keeping with this game's complex character. There are three different treasure-hunting scenarios, and each requires gathering a completely different set of clues around the town of Smuggler's Cove. The attention to detail that the books are famous for is abundantly present here: sound permeates the different "sets," from waves breaking on the shore, to the slow tick of a clock in the general store. Find and click on a skull-and-crossbones--it scowls and growls. Find and click on an oil lamp--it flares up briefly and then goes out with a delicate puff of smoke. And no, you can't cheat by just holding down the mouse button and scanning over a picture hoping to hit a required item. I Spy Treasure Hunt is a wonderfully absorbing program that slyly sneaks in a vast amount of learning. Mapping, reading, rhyming, and problem solving occur incidentally as players are drawn into the mysteries of Smuggler's Cove. And it's the only program we've ever encountered that elegantly illustrates that "four" and "4" and "." + "..." all equal the same thing. (Ages 6 to 10) --Anne Erickson

Embark on an adventure to Smuggler's Cove, a community bursting with pirate history, elusive clues, and hidden treasures, while building essential skills. Solving I Spy riddles reveals pieces of three mysterious treasure maps. Once assembled, the maps lead players on a hunt to discover treasure left behind by legendary pirates.

Explore the town, search out hidden treasures, and solve riddles at unique locations throughout Smuggler's Cove. Visit the ice cream shop, an abandoned fort, a deserted island, and more. Carefully search Shipwreck Shore to solve the riddle and earn another map piece. The words highlight as each object is found. Once all of the map pieces are assembled, kids can play a pirate map game. Use critical thinking skills to follow the clues on a search for the treasures.

  • Challenge your child to pick out the clues in the collages -- each clue helps them get closer to finding hidden treasure
  • Put all the clues together to get the map
  • Explore interesting places like lighthouses, train stations, forts, and more, while using & developing kids' rhyming skill
  • Once you're done, you put together the puzzle to go off in search of the treasure left behind by pirates ages ago!
  • OS Requirements - Microsoft Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP, Vista, Mac System 7.6.1 or later and OS X (Classic mode only)

Customer Reviews:

  • Great game for ALL ages
I've purchased a few I SPY games for my son. These are great games for ALL ages. I even enjoy playing them. Uses memory skills and are fun to play together. ...more info
  • Mac Users Beware!
The product description is wrong, this is NOT OSX software. It's OS9 and can only be run in "Classic" environment. Any Mac purchased in the last two years, at least, does not come with OS9. You would need to have OS9 installed on your computer in addition to OSX. This will definitely affect the performance of the software and your machine in general.

I contacted the company - great_deals_software - and received a very unsatisfactory response. You'd think a company selling computer software would understand the differences between operating systems and be willing to correct the product description.

As far as the game itself, I'm sorry I have to leave 1 star, but I was unable to run it. ...more info
  • Fun for everyone!
My kids (6 and 9 years old) and I spent hours playing this game. We took turns deciding where to go, and we all helped find the hidden images....more info
  • Note: Mac OS 9 only
Love the game, my 5-year old can play by herself, she can read the items to find or have them read to her when she has difficulty.
One drawback, had to get out an old Mac, this game will not work on OS X native, it requires OS 9, will not play well unless the computer boots in OS 9....more info
  • Great product
This was a great product - it is fun and educational and the graphics are great. It was such a fun product - that I purchased it first as a download but I went ahead and purchased the actual product so that I could have a CD of it forever. Buy it - you and your children will enjoy trying to find the items. ...more info
  • game is ok
I must admit that my 6 year old son had a great time playing all the games in this CD. It had one or two drawbacks.
    1. No clues for where you could find an object
    2. Only 3 pirate treasure map games
Each game took is 1 1/2 to 2 hours to complete. My son was very excited and loved this game CD. That is why I wish it had more to it, and more levels. I expected more for a $30 game....more info
  • I SPY Treasure Hunt
A game my 5 year old loves, and my husband and I have just as much fun playing with him. Very interactive. We love that you can find 3 different treasures. My son really loved putting the treasure map together!...more info

  • A Good Game!
Great! Nice scenery, some tough items to find. All in all, my granddaughter (age 5 1/2) and I have had a lot of fun playing this game!...more info
  • Can't finish the map!
My children, ages 7, enjoyed the Spooky Mansion much better. There seemed to be an easier navigation than the Treasure Hunt. They were also raised to like monsters and such so the Spooky Mansion fit right in. I rated this 4 stars because of the harder task of navigating. I do like that it is just like the books which I am a huge fan of. Overall, it's fun and great in teaching kids to read and understand what they are reading....more info
  • I Spy games are phenomenal
We own all the I Spy computer games. Both my 4-y-o son and 6-y-o daughter love to play them. They definitely learn a lot and are really using their thinking skills. Recommend them all!...more info
  • Fantastic * Fantastic * Fantastic software!
Both my 3 year and 6 year old grandsons
just love this software! It challenges them
visually and of course mentally. Well designed,
great images, continually enjoyable. It's great!!!...more info
  • Very Fun.
This is a fun computer game and very similar to the I Spy books. We have I Spy Haunted Mansion CD as well and I think this one is much better. I would strongly suggest you choose this one over the the Haunted Mansion. Instead of one game as on Haunted Mansion, there are three games with this program. It is fun and I have found myself sitting up late playing it. THe graphics are neat and the sounds are clear and easy to hear. Well worth the time and money.

    Enjoy....more info

  • Hours of enjoyment
My son is 5 and thoroughly enjoyed this game. The only problem was the reading of the clues was not consistent. It would drop the last half of the sentence, therefore I had to help him read every clue. He also plays I Spy Spooky Mansion and I Spy Fantasy and we had no sound problems on those games.
He loves finding the clues and then using the clues to find the treasure. He plays for hours!...more info
  • Even a 5 year old
I purchased this for my 5 year old grandson but was concerned that it might be too advanced for him.
Well, not only is he playing and loving it, so are my son and daughter-in-law. It's become a great family game....more info
  • Also had sound problems
Loved the game, but ours also had a sound problem. The sentances would cut off. That's a problem if your child cannot read the clues at the bottom. ...more info
  • Carefull - Will not be delivered by Christmas!
I placed the Christmas order on December 8th, only to discover that it would not be shipped or recv'd until after Christmas thru January 9th...Had tremendous difficulty cancelling the order.I simply thought others might need to know!
As for the product, wouldn't have a clue, we never got that far!

    Merry Christmas!...more info

  • Highly Recommended
My 8 year old grandson loves this game. The only problem is prying him away from the computer when he is playing it. He has numerous other software games (Backyard everthing), but enjoys this the most.

This game will have your child reading, reasoning through clues, and learning new words (for common things like anchor, thimble, etc.). All that and fun too.

Sometimes it takes a second pair of eyes to find an item, so you may be asked to play along. You may find your child is better than you at thinking outside the box.

The game designers were very creative. The game does not wear out as quickly as some computer games, because after all of the clues are gathered and the treasure is found, there are new games with new clues, and new ways to find a new treasure in a new location. The locations for the clues repeat (Inn, Island, Fort, etc.), but each new game is different. My grandson has played for hours on end, locating new clues, and working through the new puzzle to get to the treasure.

We also have I Spy Haunted Mansion, but I recommend this one because of its variety, rich graphics, and creative puzzles.

Note: We are running this on XP with a 2.2 gigahertz processor and 512 meg of RAM with no issues....more info

The game is great until you get to the end and then it just locks. My 7-year old was very disappointed when he worked so hard to get to the end and then the game just locks up!!...more info
  • I Spy's are all winners!
All the I spy collections are favorites with my 6yr old girl. She has loved them since she was 4-5, we wld play/read the I Spy books together with her. The CD's are great because they can click on the words and it will read it out loud to them so they can play alone. This is a collection that the adults will like playing w/the addicting. It keeps her entertained for couple hours..which says a lot!...more info
  • One to be played over and over again!
My almost five year old son is quite experienced with video games--we have an XBOX, a N64, and a Gamecube... and he can beat my 17 year old daughter's friends at Halo, Deadman's Hand, Mario Cart, etc. So, gaming is NOT NEW to him. But, this game has him playing over and over again!! He's already 'won' all three levels TWICE, but just has to try 'one more time.'

My husband, daughter and I all helped find the objects in the beginning... so not only will a little one need some help, it also got the whole family involved in the hunt! And, with this in mind... my son has decided that he will 'conquer' this game without anyone's help if he has to play it over and over!

Wow! This is the first computer or other game that I've found that keeps him enthralled and challenged! Moms? Need a shower? Put this in the CD drive and go for it! It's also the only game I've seen him 'share' with the neighbor kids... four and seven years old. He prides himself in 'helping' them find the items... and instead of becoming a competition, they are actually all working together! How exciting!

I highly recommend this game. We did try the I Spy Schoolhouse version, but with XP, it just wouldn't run without totally messing with the computer.... not user friendly. My son wants to try the Haunted House next, so I sure hope it doesn't fight with XP just to get it to play. But, when you can get these games to play.... wow! The kids really love them.

***Note to Scholastic.... make NEW GAMES that work with Windows XP! Hello... you have an audience out here....!!***...more info
  • It's a shame it was discontinued
This is my hands-down favorite of the I-Spy CD-Roms. The town is idyllic, the pages are beautiful, you can hear the gulls and the water...its a particularly fun escape....more info
I purchased this game for my 8 year old nephew, but we played the game together and both really enjoyed it! The sounds and visual effects are clever and challenging, and reaching the end is VERY rewarding! A good time for children and adults!...more info
  • Hours of Fun
At age 38, I had a great time with this game...until my 12 & 6 year old children edged me out of playing! The younger child is starting to read, but not many words. This catered to her by saying the clues aloud on command. It is excellent for strengthening imagination & thinking skills, especially thinking "outside the box". The older child played for 5 straight hours going through several games consecutively. Ignore the upper age-range on this one. It's for all ages!...more info
  • Excellent game for all ages
I hesitated buying this because I had read several reviews concerning the sound problem. There was a sound fix inluded in the copy I purchased and since we installed it the game has been used each week for several months. This game is one of the few things my 7 and 16 year old will sit and do together. I even get caught up in the process and soon we have a crowd gathered around the computer screen trying to find the 5th boat! This is simply a fun and exciting game for all ages....more info
  • I Spy Treasure is the best!!!!
We have purchased all 3 of the I Spy games that are available. By far I Spy Treasure Hunt is the best!!! It is fun and entertaining. It keeps us all busy for hours. Even though we have been through all 3 of the games many times, it never gets boring. I would recommend this game over Spooky Mansion only because Treasure Hunt has 3 different games and Spooky mansion only has one! I feel it is worth the money. It is not just for kids. The age requirement on the game should say 6 years to 100 years!!! It is great!! Hooray!!!!...more info
  • Sound problem? No problem!
We too had a sound problem. It took all of thirty seconds to find a solution: info
