  • Great fantasy gaming
This is one of my all time favourite games. I like it better than Heroes IV because of the number of creatures, items, town types etc., not all of which are in Heroes IV. If you're into turn based fantasy gaming them I really recommend this, even if you have Heroes IV. Even though the graphics are in 2D form I think they're pretty OK (on this point IV does better). Also I could spend endless hours creating maps with it....more info
  • Best Game Ever! A++++
This game is amazing. From the mind blowing graphics to the active combat. In my experience there are only a few other games that rank as high as this one. Such as Star Controll 2, Halo3, GoW2. ...more info
  • It works with Vista
I do not think that there is much need to introduce this awesome classic game. I just want to point out that I do not experience much trouble with running it under Windows Vista (I know people are concerned about this). Just ignore the warnings and enjoy the game....more info
  • HeroesIII complete is a must have
i like this game better than Heroes4- i guess because i started playing it years ago and just like this 'original' like gameplay.
i think this game is one of those 'must haves' that you will always come back to and play over time- i have single player games saved from 3 years ago.any well-rounded game collection should have this title in it.
i'm 32 and still have a friend over for a hot seat game once in awhile....more info
  • New World Does It Again
There are a number of ways to look at "Heroes III: Complete". Are you new to the series? Do you have HoMM II? Do you have HoMM III?

If you've never played an HoMM game: this is a "turn-based" strategy game where your heroes (and their armies) travel the world, securing resources which allow you to buy more heroes and bigger and better armies. (After you take your turn, your opponents take theirs.) As your heroes successfully marshall their forces, they gain experience, which makes your troops more powerful in battle (might) and allows your hero to cast more spells (magic). You capture cities for gold and troops. Each type of city has its own set of monsters that can be generated by building the appropriate structures--but this all costs gold and resources, which your heroes will have to secure for you. Battle takes place on a grid reminiscient of a chess-board, and each of your troops (which appear as single graphical images for each troop type) has particular elements which make certain tactical decisions critical. (A flying troop is not hindered by castle walls, for example. A missile troop doesn't need to get close to an enemy to hit it. Etc.) In this installment, you can follow particular heroes along certain campaigns by playing out scenarios, which will require you to be victorious in securing a certain size army, a certain amount of resources, or just wiping out your enemies.

It's a game that requires considerable thought and strategy, and is the most complex in the series. For a simpler start, I would recommend the 1995 game "Heroes of Might and Magic", which has fewer troops, fewer decisions to make, but which defined the HoMM style of play. (You can find this game on the Ultimate Strategy Archives here at

If you've played earlier versions of HoMM (which goes back to the early '90s game "King's Bounty"), this latest version shouldn't be missed: It has more of everything. More spells, more structures, more artifacts, etc. etc. etc.

If you've played HoMM III and are wondering whether "Complete" is worth it, I'd say, yes, definitely (unless of course you didn't like HoMM III in the first place!). The two add-ons add some very cool new specialties, one (so-so) town, and a number of variations that will keep you entertained through the new campaigns and scenarios.

Unlike most game series, the emergence of each new HoMM game has not made the previous version obsolete. HoMM I has a different feel and flavor than HoMM II which is different from HoMM III. It is said that HoMM IV will actually have fewer troops, emphasizing the differences between them, and a rather different style of play, meaning that HoMM III will probably stay parked on my hard drive alongside both its ancestors =and= its descendents for quite some time....more info

  • BAD
This game is so bad I would have not even given it a star, but 0 STARS is not a choice!!!

    I wear so many karats you'll think I'm a ****ing vegetarian....more info

  • Body strong... mind weak.
It was with much trepidation that I recently re-installed this supreme nugget of gaming goodness. And it was good.

Trepidation, you ask? Yes, for once upon a time Heroes III, or "magic-crack" as it came to be called by me and my roommates, was responsible for almost ruining the collegiate careers of 3 promising young lads.

We played for days, weeks. We had moments of clarity, when Heroes would be uninstalled and we'd vow never to play again.

And we went through the inevitable relapses. Once I returned to the apartment after philosophy class to find my friend John unable to turn his head in greeting. His shoulders and neck were locked in position after 18 hours of play.

For what it's worth, I've played games from many different genres without bias. My favorite games range from Grim Fandango and The Last Express to System Shock, Max Payne, and the Warhammer series.

I suppose that I tend towards games with a strong story-line overall, though I can be swayed by outstanding gameplay.

I should say that I'm not familiar with the Heroes back-story. I and my doomed roommates only joined the game at Heroes III. Yet from a presentation and gameplay standpoint this is simply one of those games that completely works on every level.

The graphics are gorgeous (still) and the characters, units, and peripheral items/rewards/locations are incredibly well developed.

Heroes III is a classic by any measure....more info
  • Heroes III
Good game. Very easy to spend/waste hours of your time. The map editor and campain editor make for the possibility of creating your own worlds/adventures. The only glitch I have noticed with this version of the game is that it will unexpectedly and suddenly crash, so save your game play every turn. Luckily it has a good autosave, so if the game crashes on you, only one or two turns will be lost....more info
  • Great Game, but Not Challenging
Heroes III is an improvement with respect to everything except its artificial intelligence. It seems to me that the AI could not keep up with the other advances. Consequently, the campaigns were much easier than they were in Heroes II Gold. The concept of carrying some of your best heroes from one level to the next in the campaigns makes the game too easy. In particular, I finished the last level of one of the campaigns within a ridiculously short period of time because I had too many powerful spells, such as the "fly" spell. The game is still tons of fun, but Heroes II Gold is much more difficult, so I actually gave my copy of Heroes III to somebody else when I finished it. However, I still play Heroes II Gold....more info
  • I love this game!
I have looked for years for this game. I used to play this game all the time. I love it so much. If you enjoy fantasy creatures and war games, you will love Heroes III. This is an older game, but new computers can still run it. This game is suitable for children. I bought a copy for my 10 year old sister, and she loves it! A great buy! :)...more info
  • I Love It
I first played HMM3 years ago at a friends house. I was instantly hooked. Since then I've purchased it for myself and my brothers and sister are hooked on it too!!! We all get together and play it. We help out eachother when in need- oh we have so much fun.
My bro agrees with my comment "totally"...more info
  • A great game for beginners
It is great for those new playing computer games. It is a turn-based strategy game(meaning you take a turn then your opponent takes their turns). there is more than enough scenarios to keep you playing this games for two years. Another plus to the game is that it is very simple to play, you can do everything with your mouse. If you like a lot of action and movies in your games, then this is not the game for you. Even without all of the fancy stuff the game is still challenging and entertaining. I recommend this to anyone whose never played a computer game before and has lots of time to waste....more info
  • One of the rare games that gets almost everything right
If you like turn based strategy games, or fanasty strategy games you will love this game.
I bought all the pieces to this game one at a time. Having them bundled together represetns a big bargin, because if you bought just one, you'd want the rest.
The graphics are very attractive, but on a large(21") monitor, the 800x600 graphics took just a bit too big.
This game is one of the eaiest to reccommend since I've never met anyone who tried it who did not just love it....more info
