Customer Reviews:

  • A little behind the times
We received one of these from my employer (Earth day giveaway, I believe) back in 2000 or 2001. It is supposed to act as a night light while the rechargeable battery inside ensures that, when the power goes off, the night light stays on. When unplugged, it can be used as an emergency flashlight. Additional convenience is provided by its pass through front power outlet.

Many years later, the rechargeable battery is completely dead but I do remember having used it as a flashlight a couple of times in the past. It's still acting as a night light in one of our bathrooms but the light it produces is no longer bright enough to be used on a staircase.

At this time (2009) this item represents old technology. Current LED-based lights that usually turn themselves off during the day are a lot more power efficient. As for emergency flashlights, a wide variety of inexpensive, usually LED-based crank devices are available - we have a few....more info
  • Great for our seemingly 3rd world power grid from PSE&G
These are great. This is my 2nd set in 10 years. Our grid goes out many times a year, and these just instantly turn on so we and especially, our dog, doesn't go nuts. Then just grab it for use as a low power flashlight, and you're good to go. I also like the night light feature. I have 3 of 'em in the house, ready to turn on next time PSE&G's grid fails and the next block over stays on! Argh!...more info
  • Great Product in a Power Outage
We've had ours for over 7 years and need a new one. A great night light but super when the power goes out in the night! Lots of power outages in our area and this product has never failed. Switches to a brighter light when the power fails so you can see around the house. We have several in different areas....more info
  • Perfect Emergency Nightlight
We have a B&B and this is perfect for in our rooms in case of a power failure, the flashlight part comes on automatically. Works great!...more info
  • love this, its very handy!
I can't believe this item is no longer available to buy. Please see if you can't get it re-added. I bought another brand that does not have the extra plug in it! This item has all ready worked for us when we returned home during a power outage at night. This product is great!...more info
Bought this item because I was looking for an inexpensive night light/emergency light.
This product does fill this requirement, however:
As noted by other reviewers, the night light is very dim.
Also,I have tried to remove the lens cover to see how easy it would be to remove the bulb.Could not do that on any of these units.
Sent an email to the manufacturer, and they said push on the lens and twist.
I applied quite a bit of force on all three.Nothing.
Also,it would have been a bit better had they included a light sensor in this unit, but I knew it was not included....more info
  • Close but no emergency beacon
I ordered and am using 4 of these, but having used Intermatic products for 20 years, I am not impressed. The emergency light given off is not as bright as I would have expected, however, they can fuction similar to the aisle lighting in a movie theatre to at least get one through the hall or garage in an emergency....more info
  • An Elegant & Simple Solution
Unobtrusive, simple to use, and works well. I've already had the "opportunity" to need it while in the midst of a construction project. It allowed me to find my way out of my office cave....more info
  • They're dead when you need them..
The flashlight stopped working after 3 months, probably due to low quality rechargeable batteries that wont recharge any more. Who knows.
Bottom line - chances are that when you'll need it, it wont be working.
Unless you swap them with new ones every couple of months of course..

These lights are dangerous as far as I'm concerned, because they are giving the illusion of safety when it comes to an emergency situation.

I recommend spending a bit more on something more reliable than these....more info
  • Not enough emergency light
The light came on when the power went off at 3 AM but the emergency light did not last long enough even though the battery had four or five days to fully charge. This will do for now but I would not purchase any additional....more info
  • A good buy.
I bought four and all worked fine right out of the box. I'd give 5 stars except the night light is a waste - very dim, useless to the point of wasting electricity (can't imagine it uses much, though). My cost for four of these was less than the cost of just two similar items at Target....more info
  • Excellent
Powerful light. Extremely important to have in power failures. Even my husband was impressed with it!...more info
  • Emergency power failure light a good buy!
This emergency power failure light was a good buy. It was one of the more inexpensive types but it works well. The only problem is that it doesn't work for long ... maybe 75-minutes or so. I solved that by buying more (I think I have 7 of them now). In a power failure, you can turn some of them off and then use them when the other ones go out. I have small children and they were too fascinated with the candles. This is a MUCH SAFER option!!...more info
  • Good light for when the power goes out
These lights provide enough light to see by when the power goes out. They don't light up the house so you can read, but they aren't meant to. We have several around the house and when the power goes off we can navigate the stairs and see what we are doing just fine. I like the switch on/off and the plug through features also. An absolute must if you have small children who get scared when the power goes out!...more info
  • Less than I expected
I bought this because of price and reviews, but don't think I read the accurate reviews.

Price is good. Product functions as claimed, BUT the light is very dim at its brightest and while it would be better than nothing during a power outage, you might have to light a match to see if it's on!

I haven't tested the battery life on this, but that would be an important factor in an emergency. If I still lived in FL where power outages were frequent, I would be very unhappy with this product....more info
  • Very satisfied with this light
I shopped many different lights and, based on the reviews that I read, I chose three of these lights for our house and two for my 95+ year old mother's house where she lives alone. This is a great safety feature that far exceeds the usefulness of battery-operated lights. Good product at a reasonable price....more info
