Product Description

Back in the day, when Richard Roundtree, Fred Williamson, Issac Hayes, and Pam Grier were stickin' it to the Man, Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby collaborated on three buddy comedies that offered urban audiences an alternative to private dicks, sex machines, and bad muthas. The Uptown Saturday Nightstars re-team for an "outtasite" scam involving hypnosis, a hopeless beanpole boxer (Jimmie Good Times Walker), and two rival kingpins. Though in fashion and patois Let's Do It Again is a candidate for the '70s time capsule, it does hold up better than most of its more militant blaxploitation brethren. Poitier, the straight man, and Cosby, working his improvisational mojo, are a great comedy team. Worth the price of purchase alone is the sight of these icons decked out in flamboyant Mack Daddy duds to impress their marks, Kansas City Mack (John Amos) and Biggie Smalls (Calvin Lockhart). Curtis Mayfield's score, with vocals by the Staples Singers, is also good for the soul. --Donald Liebenson

Customer Reviews:

  • Classic Comedy
This classic urban comedy features an all-star cast! Bill Cosby, Sidney Poitier, John Amos...

Although it was made before my fiance and I were even born(1975), we were both in tears laughing throughout the whole movie. We were so happy to find it available to buy on Amazon!

"Let's Do It Again" is the BEST and FUNNIEST of the three buddy comedies featuring Cosby and Poitier from the 1970's. "A Piece of the Action" and "Uptown Saturday Night" are funny as well, but "Let's Do It Again" is hilarious and has a great soundtrack!...more info

  • Best Poitier/Cosby comedy
I never get tired of looking at this particular film. It has me gasping for air, from laughing so hard! Especially the part where Billy Foster (Bill Cosby) is dressed in the weirdest outfit when he makes a bet with the big time hoods. This is a must see!...more info
  • Enjoyed the movie
I have seen this movie so many times that I just can't remember. I purchased it so I could view it anytime. It is so funny and it is clean enough that all your family members can enjoy it,too . When Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby team-up, then you know you are in for a funny and enjoyable movie...more info
  • The Best of the Trio
This is the crown jewel in the Poitier-Cosby partnership. It has just the right combination of outright thigh-slappers and more subtle comedic touches. This is my favorite move of all time. I could (and do) watch it over and over, marveling that it can still make me laugh (hard) each and every time.

I cannot give this movie a high enough recommendation. If the grading system went up to 10 stars, that's what it would get from me....more info
  • A pleasant evening on the couch
This is a pleasant light comedy from the 70's.
Sidney Poitier as a milkman-hypnotist plays a relaxed straight role, with his sidekick, the refreshing Bill Cosby...they make a good team, and complement each other's characters perfectly.
Jimmie Walker as the gormless "Bootney Farnsworth" provides a reasonable number of laughs.
This is not a laugh-out-loud comedy, but a gentler, happier format...mild pleasant humour, of a feel-good escapist variety.
A good buy for fans of the irrepressible Bill Cosby....more info
  • Comedy at it's best!!!
I love this movie!!!!! When I first saw this on HBO I was laughing so hard that my stomach was hurting and I was crying. Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier in rare form. Also, the cast was good and Jimmie Walker topped it off. Also, the soundtrack with the Mom & Pop Stables is dynamite!!! You can't beat the 70s!!!...more info
  • Let's Watch The Movie Again!!
I can watch this movie again, again. This is the time when there was something to watch opposed to todays movies. This movie had laughter, UPGRADED (TO THE HIGHEST POWER) GARMENTS worn in a fashion, "CATS" are just not ready for, even today![->(<--You (everyone,in general) don't understand what was worn at that time. Mr. Cosby & Poitiers' fashion started the years of their birth to infiniti.--LOL.)] There is a scene towards the end of the movie, you would think Mister Cosby & Poitier would never do. It is when they are being chased. (Hint: When you are being chased by a few men thats not to mess with, you will do anything to get away from that person.) I LOVE THIS MOVIE. Uptown Saturday Night is a good movie, also. Peace to all. ...more info
  • Two of the Best, in their Best
Of the three that Bill Cosby & Sidney Poitier made (Uptown Saturday Night, Let's Do It Again and A Piece Of The Action) I
loved this one best. An all-star cast along with the plot in
the boxing match, their wives and dealing with the two kingpins
gave me enough laughs to drive my wife up the wall. The Cosby/Poitier team I feel, is a positive comedy duo that rates with Crosby/Hope....more info
  • Simply Funny!!!
The only movie I've ever known Bill Cosby to have done back in the days was "I Spy". I came across "Let's Do It Again" while working ironically in the Navy onboard USS Enterprise. I watch the movie not knowing what to expect, and didn't find a dull moment anywhere. John Amos and Jimmy Walker only made the movie more funnier than what it was. Even people younger than me that I put on to this movie who love Cosby enjoyed it because it's just good, clean fun. The same elements you hardly see in movies today. If you haven't seen this one, buy it, rent it, do what you have to do!!! You will NOT be dissapointed!!!...more info
  • My favorit Movie
Of all the movies I have seen in my entire life, this is my favorite movie, I highly recommend this movie to everyone, I collect DVD's, this should have been one of the first movies on DVD. I hope this will happen very soon. I laugh everytime I watch it....more info
  • My all time favorite
I am Bill Cosby's biggest fan, from his comedy albums in the 60s all the way through his TV sitcoms in the 80s and 90s. The "trilogy" he did with Sidney Poitier (Uptown Saturday Night, Let's Do It Again, and A Piece of the Action) are absolutely hilarious! Let's Do It Again is the funniest of the three and from the plot to the costumes to the dialogue to the singing (Bill's "Ode to the Champ" is my favorite!) you will be in stitches. This movie was thoroughly entertaining, and it leaves you longing for a return to a time when sex, gruesome violence and profanity did NOT rule the film industry. You have GOT to see this movie!...more info
  • Their Best
This was one of the funnyest movies that Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier ever did. Jimmy Walker and John Amos came over from Good Times to give some assistence. The title song was a number 1 hit for the Staple Singers....more info
  • why not on dvd

  • Oh yeah, You have to see this film.
If only Bill Cosby can find more script like this and stay away from stuff like Leonard Part VI. The chemistry between him and Sidney Poiter is pure gold. Great supporting cast of John Amos and Jimmie Walker....more info
  • Some of Cosby and Poitier's best work!
Given that it was a low budget movie, Sydney Poitier's skills of directing were less than amazing. The odd way they go about winning the money is what makes it a unique classic. Who would ever think of hypnotizing two boxers? I found the score to be brilliant; then again Curtis Mayfield is a brilliant songwriter and composer so that's all he knows to produce. The Staples Singers were also the perfect group to score it. For those of you who've never seen this, it is definitely a must see. Much side splitting laughter is in store......more info
  • A funfilled film you can watch with your kids!
Clyde Williams and Billy Foster are a couple of blue-collar workers in Atlanta who have promised to raise funds for their fraternal order, the Brothers and Sisters of Shaka. However, their method for raising the money involves travelling to New Orleans and rigging a boxing match. Using hypnotism, they turn the scrawny underdog into a super-confident fighting machine. They bet heavily on him, he wins easily, and they return to Atlanta with their money. All is fine until the gangsters conned by these two figure out what happened show up in Atlanta with a grudge. Now Williams and Foster have to rig the fight again so the gangsters can get their money back or they'll be killed. Can they do it again...? The execution of the score sucks, but it's still a good movie. Thank you for reading my review. -Bootney Farnsworth, the champ!...more info
