The vampire in me was closer to the surface . . .

Evernight Academy: an exclusive boarding school for the most beautiful, dangerous students of all—vampires. Bianca, born to two vampires, has always been told her destiny is to become one of them.

But Bianca fell in love with Lucas—a vampire hunter sworn to destroy her kind. They were torn apart when his true identity was revealed, forcing him to flee the school.

Although they may be separated, Bianca and Lucas will not give each other up. She will risk anything for the chance to see him again, even if it means coming face-to-face with the vampire hunters of Black Cross—or deceiving the powerful vampires of Evernight. Bianca's secrets will force her to live a life of lies.

Yet Bianca isn't the only one keeping secrets. When Evernight is attacked by an evil force that seems to target her, she discovers the truth she thought she knew is only the beginning. . . .

Customer Reviews:

  • When's the next book coming out?
This book flowed, I believe, much better than Evernight. In fact, I believe the book would hold on its own without Evernight, though [Evernight] is an excellent book and should be read regardless.

    Slight spoilerism in the following:
Whereas I was a Balthazar fan in Evernight, I did lose myself from him and onto Lucas, who seemed very much devoted to Bianca, but I wanted to slap in the face on about two occasions. And I like how Bianca seems more age appropriate in this story. In the Twilight series or even the House of Night series, I believe that relationships are weakly based on 'looks are everything', but there does seem to be much more to Bianca and Lucas' relationship along with Balthazar (with a nice Othello and R&J correlation). I like the Vampire/Ghost twist though to be fair, we probably should have seen more wraiths in Evernight.

The only thing lacking was a little more details of Balthazar and Jane. I think it would have been fine adding it in (as it did cause a small rift at one point) even if there is more to come. I'm also not a big fan of Charity and think that there should have been more behind that whole thing (as in what's up between her and Mrs. Bethany).

I do like this book on its own but I will say that it makes me pine for the next book (hourglass) due to what it is lacking (see paragraph above). After all, I did read this book in one night.

  • The Evernight series is one of my favorite series so far!
So I read this book in 4 hours and totally loved it! I've decided that I am totally in love with Baltazar, how can you not be?? And I guess Lucus is ok too...
But the plot fitted in perfectly with the storyline, I was laughing, crying and cringing with fear the whole way through it. A Fantastic book that I highly recommend. The Evernight series is one of my favorite series so far!...more info
  • Suspense, twisty plot, deceptions, and betrayals, oh my!
Bianca, teenager and natural-born vampire is out to solve the mystery as to why Evernight (a private boarding school for vamps) has started accepting human students. Bianca's boyfriend Lucas and his family - Black Cross, a league of vampire hunters - is monitoring the situation closely, and are ready to strike if the school steps out of line and hurts any of these humans.

Throw in a love triangle, a family secret, a loved one's betrayal, and you have Stargazer. I had a hard time setting this one down.

  • Makes the first one worth reading
The first book, "Evernight", was okay in opinion, a book worth renting from the library to read. This sequel, titled "Stargazer", outshone it's predecessor. This book took the events that had been laid down in a somewhat stilted way and ran away with story, plot and twists. I was completely shocked by how much I really enjoyed this book.

Bianca, the heroine, really grew as a three-dimentional person. She is presented with some awful truths and acts like a typical teenager, which I'm very glad to have seen her go through. There was more sexual awakenings (though no sex outright)and more development in her relationships with those around her.

The sub-plot was interesting too, because it presented a unique twist on the vampire genre. I think this book makes reading the first book well worth it, and I hope the next installment, titled "Hourglass", keeps the momentum rolling.

  • Worth Reading, but What Happened to Lucas?!?
I was a total fan of "Evernight". I know these books aren't supposed to be that deep, but I enjoyed the author's twists and creativity. "Stargazer" doesn't disappoint in that it draws the reader into the action and keeps them there from start to finish. The plot was creative, but I just can't see myself coming back to reread this novel any time in the future.
My main disappointment was that Lucas morphed from a super-suave, James Bond, vampire-hunter from the first book to a bumbling, uneducated teen with sex on the brain. What happened???...more info
I thought this book was really good!! A lot happens! and well im a bit sad about Balthazar!! i wish they had a chance! anyways! you wont be disappointed! you get to learn more about the school and Bianca. Cant wait for the next one....more info
  • The Story Siren Reviews:
I really liked Evernight. I mean I really really liked it! Loved it even! And as much as I loved Evernight- Stargazer is even better!

I don't want to go into the plot too much and really go into what happens because a lot happens! And you're really going to want to discover it all for yourself!

In my review of Evernight, I mentioned that I would like to learn more about Balthazar, and I was happy to see happen in this novel. The plot becomes even more complicated if you can believe that. Gray threw some huge twists in there, that I DID NOT see coming.

The character relationships became more complex as well, adding to the overall allure of the novel. It was interesting to see how some things tied together completely. One of the most important things to me as a reader is good characterization and Stargazer has that. As well as impressive writing on Gray's part. I love Bianca and Lucas's story!

The only thing bad about this novel is that ended! I'm dying to know what happens next! I really don't know if I can wait! A must read for vampire fans!

  • Loved it, definitely a great read!
I hardly ever write reviews but I felt with this book I had to write one because I almost didn't buy this book based on one of the reviews I read here... but I am SO glad I bought it anyway because I LOVED IT!! I thought it was great. Love triangle, action, drama, lies, sneaking around, mystery... what is there not to love. Unlike other reviews, I really liked the new twists brought into the story, I didn't feel that it took away from the original storyline at all, it only made it better. If you loved Evernight then you should definitely read this... you won't be disappointed....more info
  • 2nd installment in Evernight series even better than first.
The Evernight series really stands out in the genre for me, particularly when it comes to throwing the audience curves that are completely in character for these people, and feel like everything builds logically, yet still surprises. Ever since the Harry Potter series of novels and Joss Whedon's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", there have been a number of YA supernatural series set in boarding schools and high school, where the structure of each novel follows the academic schedule--from first day of classes, through holiday break, until the students depart for the summer. As entertaining as school novels are, you are lulled into a false sense of security by thinking each installment will be the familiar tale of the characters' advancement through another teen right of passage we can all relate to. And so you think you know where the story is going.

But Stargazer defies expectations, and I am so impressed with how strongly the individual characters are drawn, and how the story goes places you'd never expect. There are no black-and-white stereotypes, or cookie-cutter high school tropes. All of the characters may be recognisable and familiar, but they each have strong personalities which dictate their actions. Bianca is a great lead, with strong opinions, and she learns from her mistakes, but also behaves in a very realistic way. She's brave and clever, but the audience aren't expected to agree with all of her choices, even if we understand them. Her relationships with her parents, Lucas, and especially Balthazar take on new depths in the second novel, and there's some fantastic world-building as the secrets of Evernight's past come to light, and Bianca begins to assemble more pieces of the puzzle. What's so satisfying for me is how the book builds to its climax, both in terms of Bianca and Lucas' relationship, as well as the battle between Evernight and the Black Cross.

Nothing will ever be the same after Stargazer, and now I simply can't wait for Hourglass, the next novel in the series....more info
  • Great sequel!
I finished reading STARGAZER and I loved it. Bianca and Lucas' love story kept going with so many obstacles that you can't stop reading. I really liked how Raquel and Bianca's friendship grow in this book, and how Vic interacts with everyone including Ranulf. I hope that this characters, and, of course, Balthazar, keep appearing in Grays' sequels because the dinamyc between all of them make the novel more interesting. I would like to say more but I don't want to spoil your reading. Highly recommended. Buy the book!...more info
  • Engrossing Sequel
I have never been a fan of anything vampire before, but I absolutely love this series of books. And, I agree that Stargazer is superior to Evernight. I couldn't stop reading it. And, after it was done, I was still engrossed in the story. I do want to know how these seemingly star-crossed lovers can ever be together. I want to unlock the mystery behind humans at Evernight. I want to know which characters live and die. I can't wait for the next one!...more info
  • Better than the first...
Stargazer was a major improvement to Evernight, in fact, it almost forgot about the stupid plot twist in Evernight, no easy feat, because it was a big one. I wish there had been more of Lucas, but was glad to read about Balthazar. Bianca grew up a bit in this book; therefore, she redeemed some of her previous ignorance. The author also explored Raquel and Bianca's relationship a little more for which I was grateful. I think Raquel is a brilliantly heartbreaking character. I was also happy to see that Vic was no longer perceived as unintelligent and was in fact rather philosophical. I'm disappointed that the author didn't sum everything up with this installment. I rather wish she had and felt as though she could have. But I'm looking forward to seeing how Lucas, Bianca and the rest of the gang fare in the future....more info
  • Ten times better than Evernight!
If you read my review of Evernight you know I wasn't a huge fan thinking it was just an ok book. Stargazer was 10 times better! I loved all that was going on in this book and cannot wait for the next one, Afterlife, which unfortunately isn't even in the Amazon catalog yet so not sure when it comes out. I loved the tension between Lucas, Bianca and Balthazar and I really found myself torn over what I wanted to happen. The chemistry between Bianca and Lucas is so hot you know they belong together and yet I love Balthazar and want him to find happiness. For all you Balthazar lovers you definitely get to find out more about his past and that he isn't always the happy go lucky guy. Of course I was happy to see Vic back as well and hope to see more of him in the next book.

The secret Bianca finds out her parents have been keeping from her is quite the whammy and leads to a bucket full of new questions. Bianca's naiveness leads to some problems but it was nice to finally see her take a stand and demand some answers from her parents. The ending of this book was action packed and leaves you clamoring for more. Oh the agony of having to wait for the next book....more info
  • girls will love this!
Stargazer was soooo good! I couldn't wait for it to come out, and when it did, it exceeded all of my expectations! I seriously recommend this book to all girls, like me, who love those supernatural romances! =]...more info
  • Return to Evernight Academy for a pop quiz in AWESOME.
First off, if you haven't read the first book in the Evernight Academy series, this is where I recommend you go and pick up a copy of EVERNIGHT before you read any of the STARGAZER reviews. Buying both at once wouldn't be a bad idea, because you're going to want to go straight from the first book into the second. I sort of envy you the option.

If you've already read EVERNIGHT, this book basically raises the ante on all the threads introduced in book one, while bringing in a bunch more questions begging for answers. It's well-written, solid, enthralling, and I couldn't put it down. I recommend this series without any reservations to anyone who likes good YA suspense, vampires, paranormal romance, believable characterization, and good, well-considered world building. Definitely a keeper....more info
  • Loved it!!
I thought this was an excellent second book in the series. I couldn't put it down and I am now very sad that i finished it in one day because i wanted to stay in the story as long as possible. It was better than Evernight which I also enjoyed. I am making all my friends read it now because i loved it so much. I really fell in love with all the characters and loved the storyline. I would recommend this book to everyone, it is now one of my top 5 books. I would say it's even better then the Twilight series and that's one of my favorites. I can't wait for the next book!!...more info
  • And Another Book Read Reviews
Bianca knows that her second year at Evernight Academy will be much more difficult then her first, and that is saying something. Not only does she have to make it through the year without Lucas, her vampire-slaying boyfriend, but her inner vampire is starting to surface. She finds she is becoming stronger and craves blood more and more frequently and her parents say it is only a matter of time before she makes the full conversion, but Bianca's not sure if that's the life path she wants to take.

She does try and make the best out of being at Evernight by searching around for clues to why Mrs. Bethany, the headmaster, admits only certain humans into the school. This way she can give Lucas this information, in order that he can report it to his supervisor and be able to spend just a little bit more time with Bianca.

As the year goes on, Bianca's life becomes even more complicated. Hordes of information is being kept from her at the same time that she is keeping just as many secrets from the rest of the world. One such secret is her continuing relationship with Lucas. The only way she can really get out into the outside world is if she pretends to be having a relationship with Balthazar, but she feels like this in a way is being disloyal to Lucas. With a major Black Cross mission underway and a mysterious wraith following Bianca, her year doesn't get much better, but could it get any worse?

In general I find there is a rule that sequels are generally not better then their preceder, but then again there are always exceptions to that rule, especially in the case of Stargazer! While I loved Evernight, Stargazer proved to be an even more intriguing read and moved along at a much quicker pace, picking up right where it left off. With that said it is best if you have read Evernight so that you fully understand the context of the story.

Bianca's character was definitely more developed in this book as she started to really question if she truly wanted to be a vampire or there was other possible options for her. This really allowed the reader to get to know her better and for her to become more real and three-dimensional. One thing I didn't like so much though that she was the only character that was fully developed. To me the other characters didn't have as much life to them and the reader could have gotten to know them better.

The plot was also much better in this book. It didn't take anytime for me to become re-interested in Bianca's story and I felt like I hadn't missed out on anything. There was always so much going on that I was constantly on the edge of my seat eager to find out what was going to happen next and how each event fit into the plot puzzle! Some of the developments that occurred in the story were definitely jaw droppers and I was absolutely stunned, and I have to say I loved evey minute of it!

Claudia Gray really outdid herself with Stargazer. Her writing was fantastic and she created a novel full of daring, romantic, and shocking moments, all of which left the reader wanting more. She especially did a great job with the ending, even though it was a little odd, which left off with a major cliffhanger! I cannot wait for more books in the series and just future books from Ms. Gray in the future....more info
