Once Bitten . . .

One minute Leigh is walking home in the early hours of the morning, and the next a vampire is sinking his teeth into her neck. Turns out it was a rogue vampire marked for termination, but it does Leigh little good because the damage's already been done. She's become one of them.

Lucian Argeneau, hunter of rogue vampires, has been alive for over two thousand years, and there's very little to excite him anymore. Food has become tasteless, sex is ordinary. Then Leigh drops into his life. Suddenly he finds himself craving coffee . . . and imagining the sassy brunette atop the black satin sheets on his nice big bed. It's Lucian's job now to enlighten Leigh on the inner workings of being immortal . . . and tutoring her is igniting a fire in him that hasn't burned in centuries.

But until they stop a renegade bloodsucker from destroying the human race, passion will have to wait!

  • A Bit Disappointing
I've read the entire series, and although Lucian has always been a central and interesting character in other books, his own story was rather weak. Lucian becomes involved with Leigh, a mortal, when a rogue hunting goes awry. The book was definitely more comedic than others in the series, but the romance between Lucian and Leigh was lacking. There was romance, yes, but it took almost the entire book for it to come to fruition. That was a bit disappointing. It was still a very fast and enjoyable read though, and I'd recommend it. There are several more characters that could potentially have their own stories, so I hope the series continues....more info
  • good
i like lynsay sands books very much. she has a great sense of humor. I enjoyed this book as well but I did not laugh out loud, like I have reading her other books. While there where some amusing actions, I felt there was something missing. don't keep this review from trying her books because she is definately a gifted writer. Her books are on my keeper shelf. I guess what I am saying is that some of her other books showcase her talent better....more info
  • Lynsay Sands Rocks!
The whole series is great, if you haven't read one of her books, now is the time to start. They are very funny and you will quickly fall in love with the characters, the women are cool and the men are hot....more info
  • Loved Them All!
Since I loved all the Argeneau Vampire books (1-9) and The Rogue Hunter (unofficially #10 but still within the Argeneau realm) I'm writing this review only once for all. I started with Rogue Hunter then went back to get all the rest (still waiting on book 2 Love Bites from Amazon). I liked the Accidental Vampire best (funny) and then Vampire Interrupted (good plot) and then all the rest lumped together. I liked the new twist that the Vampires/Immortals are descended from Atlantis and evolved from nano-technology instead of the usual vampire story. Even though the format for each book is basically the same (Vampire meets human, they fall in love and exist happily ever after), the settings are modern and language is normal speak, which made reading enjoyable for me. Hope Lynsay Sands continues with more Argeneau family or friends. These and others have me hooked on Paranormal Romance. ...more info
  • fun vampire romance
In Kansas City, Kansas, Coco Restaurant owner Leigh closes her place down at three in the morning before heading home. This night however, Morgan a rogue vampire bites her, which converts her to one of the undead.

Though a vampire Lucian Argeneau hunts down and exterminates rogue vampires with his current task being to end Morgan's reign of terror. However, he has a side assignment to assist Leigh on living in the vampire style. To his chagrin, he thinks Leigh may just be his soulmate after two millennium of existing with ennui as his partner. The teacher ponders how to woo his student when he last courted a female two thousand years ago. Everything tastes better with Leigh at his side, but he must not become too distracted as Morgan remains on the prowl.

The fun in Lynsay Sand's latest vampire romance is observing Lucian as he suddenly needs to understand modern living after centuries of surviving if he is to win the heart of his beloved Leigh at the same time he must keep her safe from Morgan and teach her how to be a vampire. Fans of the Sands saga will enjoy BITE ME IF YOU CAN as love brings an ancient one into the twenty-first century; making readers wonder just who is the teacher.

  • brilliance in comedy and romance!
I think this is my favourite Argeneau since Single White Vampire. I read this some time back, and I thought it really was one of Lynsay Sand's strongest efforts to date.

Leigh Gerard is going home from work late one night, when she is approached by a co-worker Danny. He is acting rather weird, but before she can decide to get far away, she ends up at a house with a rogue Vampire named Morgan. Morgan has started the process to turn Leigh. He has been turning people left and right to create his own vampire clan. Only the enforcer of the Argeneaus, Lucian, is on Morgan's trail and determined to put a stop to his nonsense. He comes in with his crew to wipe out the vampire nest, but discovers Leigh is not really a vampire...quiet yet. Instead of destroying her with the others, he takes her home and protects her. Neither Leigh nor Lucian (even more grumpy than Lucern is!!) are happy with the romance, especially since Leigh is learning she is a vampire in the makings, too.

A little darker than most of Lynsay's books, but I like that she steps outside of the box and delivers a book that is special unto itself. It's charming, witty, and an utter delight. Many series start to lag after the first three, then you see the writer struggling to keep making the series fresh. It's not an easy chore, because you have to remember that a reader new to the series will need explanations, while those already hooked don't want to hear a lot of repetition. It's walking a tight rope between the two that can kill a series. Sands proves she is a master and does each one in STYLE that promises to keep this series going and going....sure makes me happy!...more info
The 6th book on the Argeneau family saga is about the most cantankerous, grumpy and oldest members of the family - Julian Argeneau. He has lived centuries, well 3500 years to be precise - and is one of the original survivors of Atlantis before it fell. He lost his wife then and children and has lived alone - his only purpose in existence is protecting the Argeneau clan and ensuring their safety.

His latest mission revolves around eradicating "rogue" immortals (vampires) that have turned against the human race. That leaves Lucian with a rep of an unfeeling and rude SOB. After being having lived so long - he has seen everything, been though everything and experienced everything. He hasn't gotten lucky in almost 1800 years! And he is not about to - that would only distract him from his goal - terminate rogue vamps and being vigilante for his family!

Leigh Gerard is walking home from her restaurant late in the evening, when she is approached by a fellow co-worker Donald (Donny). He lures her into the clutches of a vicious rogue vampire - Morgan, who has been turning mortals to start his own sect of followers. Morgan bites Leigh, gives her his blood and takes her to his lair until she has turned.

Lucian and two of his men have scoped and staked out Morgan's nest. As they rush in to "clean out the nest", they kill most of the vampires in residence and burn the house, rescuing Leigh in the process. Unfortunately, Morgan and Donny have managed to slip away.

When Leigh is literally "dumped" on Lucien's lap - he has no choice but to take her his sister-in-laws house to Toronto and in turn dump her with Marguerite. Only one problem, Marguerite is on her way to Europe and can't stay to care for a "baby-vamp" while she is turning. Lucian has guarded his rep throughout the centuries. He is known as the most ancient, ruthless and kick butt immortal in the Argeneau clan and he is not going to let his rep slip by caring for a baby vamp!!!

Stuck with Leigh through her turning - he remains in Marguerite's house. After a few hilarious incidents where he is forced to do "menial" labor, he realizes that he can't read Leigh's thoughts and it is an indication that she is his life mate. After being alone for so many centuries - it is at first hard to believe that she has come along.

After Leigh realizes "she's not in Kansas anymore", she finally accepts that she has been turned into an immortal. She is constantly badgering Lucian with questions about their race - which of coursed annoys him to no end.

Leigh is delightful - with a great heart and wonderful sense of humor, she slowly begins to thaw and chip away at Lucian's frozen and insensitive heart and breaks through his defenses - in the most endearing way! Oh, did I mention that she can kick butt just like Lucian - after an abusive husband there's no way in hell she is going to be dominated and mistreated by anyone - EVER!

In the style of Sands previous novels - the content is beautifully developed and you'll find yourself swallowing this book at an expediential rate!! Complete with witty humor, sexy scenes, fantastic plot, great characters and sub-characters and a great family besides - this one is not to be missed! Julian - you can bite my neck any time!!!

I have to agree with a previous reviewer - the reason I had not picked up this series was due to the corny book titles with the silly cartoon-ish images on the covers. I sheepishly agree that I have "done missed out" on a great series which now I have to feverishly catch up on and am now reading out of sequence! HEY - don't judge a book by its cover - for sure!

Since I made the mistake of not reading these in order here is the way you might want to engage them:

    1. A Quick Bite- Lissianna & Greg
    2. Love Bites - Eteinne & Rachel
    3. Single White Vampire - Lucerne & Kate
    4. Tall, Dark & Hungry- Bastien & Terri
    5. A Bite to Remember- Vincent & Jackie
    6. Bite me if you Can - Lucien & Leigh
    7. The Accidental Vampire - Victor & Elvi
    8. Vampires are Forever - Thomas & Inez
    9. Vampire Interrupted - Marguerite & Julius

I have read every single one of Lynsay's vamp series and I personally think Bite Me If You Can is the best one to date. The book arrived last Thursday and I read it in 3 hours. It was so good and funny. I was cracking up. Seeing Lucien so out of control was dynamite. Lynsay Sands has outdone herself with this awesome book!...more info
