4/4: Symbos-Mabir-A Affects Symbian Cells Symbos_Mabir.A is malware that affects mobile phones that use the Symbian operating system with the Series 60 Platform user interface. It usually arrives as an installation file named CARIBE.SIS. (Note: The Series 60 Platform is licensed by various mobile phone manufacturers including LG Electronics, Lenovo, Nokia, Panasonic, Samsung, Sendo, and Siemens.)
It spreads via Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones. It arrives as an .SIS file, which is usually utilized for easy installation. When a mobile phone receives this file via Bluetooth, a series of messages warn the user of the possilbe malicious nature of the file.
As a general rule, users are advised to avoid installing files received from unkown or unstrusted sources.
Once installed, this malware is capable of monitoring incoming SMS or MMS messages. Once the affected phone receives a new message, it automatically sends an MMS reply, with a copy of itself named INFO.SIS attached.
