January 11, 2005

Symbos_Vlasco-B is a variant of Symbos_Vlasco.A and affects Series 60 mobile phones. It usually arrives as an installation file named VELASCO.SIS and can be downloaded from a Web page or received via Bluetooth.

It spreads via Bluetooth-enabled Series 60 mobile phones. It arrives as an .SIS file, which is usually utilized for easy installation. When a mobile phone receives this file via Bluetooth, a series of messages warn the user of the possilbe malicious nature of the file.

As a general rule, users are advised to avoid installing files received from unkown or unstrusted sources.

An infected mobile phone continuously searches for other Bluetooth-enabled devices with unlimited Inquiry Access Code (IAC) and attempts to send a message with the file VELASCO.SIS. Affected users may disable Bluetooth connections to prevent this malware from spreading from their mobile phones.
