17 February 2004 -- PMN -- Wireless Intellect Labs, the
research and development subsidary of Singapore network operator MobileOne, has
announced a home security solution based on its Permodia mobile multimedia
platform. Permodia enables still images and video to be requested from any
webcam and forwarded to a user's mobile device.
The home security system works by detecting motion in front of the webcam during pre-specified times (i.e. when the user is away from the property) and forwarding them by MMS. It supports 3GP and RealVideo streams. Varun Arora, General Manager at WiLabs, said: "Permodia is already being used by end-users to watch over their elderly parents at home, to keep an eye on their kids in child-care centres, and even to tap into existing traffic authority cameras using their WAP/ MMS mobile phones. The simplicity of using Permodia, along with the very clear value proposition to the service provider - increased revenues from MMS, WAP, and video through user-generated content - makes the system very attractive to service providers around the world. The fact that we already have licensees in Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia, and are in discussion with a number of international operators, shows that operators and service providers see this product as a good contributor to revenue." A demonstration of the service is available from http://permodia.wilabs.com. About Wireless Intellect Labs Wireless Intellect Labs is a cellular technology R&D company based in Singapore.
