Christchurch police have found a security camera image of murdered prostitute Susan Sutherland taken shortly before she died.

Ms Sutherland's naked body was discovered at an empty section on Peterborough Street around nine o'clock on Saturday morning.

She was photographed in an inner city shop at 3.30 am the same day.

In the photo Ms Sutherland is wearing a dark coloured skirt with a split down the back, a brown, cross-over crop top, and black leather boots.

Police say they are still building up a picture of Ms Sutherland's movements that night, and would like to speak to anyone who had dealings with her.

Meanwhile, the family of the murdered woman have appealed to the public for any information on her death.

A letter from the family has revealed she developed a drug addiction from a young age.

They say Ms Sutherland was a gentle and petite woman who would have been unable to protect herself.
