Description:The SanDisk 1GB Cruzer Mini USB Flash Drive is the fastest and easiest way to move your data. Unlike floppy disks and other removable media, Cruzer Mini offers higher storage capacities, faster data transfer rates, and better file security,.Reviewed by: madjan from CA on May 12, 2004

Experience: 10 Days

Strengths: Simple, convenient, no problem's using it and very fast.

Weaknesses: Takes up space for more than one port. Might want to purchase an extender cable (about $4.00) to go with it. Also uses a software version of locking instead of a simple lock switch like other drives.

Summary: Pertaining to the UTKEngineer review - If you format the drive (I'd recommend FAT32), you get almost 24 MB back for a grand total of 1000 Megs!

The software that came installed on the drive was buggy. Had to go to the website and download an updated version which works just fine. Takes up an extra 3 MB if you use it.

Overall, good impression. Will purchase from this manufacturer again.

Strengths: HUGE storage capacity, fast tranfer rate, and it's very small.

Weaknesses: The ONLY weakness I can find is it will not attach to my keychain as I had hoped.

Summary: This USB key is pretty cool. I've had it about a week and I absolutely love it. The only complaint I have about it is very minor but it is that I cannot attach it to a keychain, as I wanted to. It does come with a string to wear around your neck, but besides carrying it in your pocket there's no way to attach it to your keychain for convenience. But that DEFINITELY outweighs its HUGE 1GB storage capacity and the fast USB 2.0 transfer rate.

Strengths: Easy to copy files

Weaknesses: NA

Summary: Very convenience to transfer files from Mac PC. It is small and light when it hangs around my neck. It is a good price and shipping is really fast.

Strengths: USB 2.0 INCREDIBLY fast!!! Very simple and convenient. Had no problem's hooking it up. Just plugged it in and sent two folders to it, unplugged and left. With the files on the drive in my pocket.

Weaknesses: 1 Gig = 1024 Meg. (Don't believe me? Look it up) However, the sandisk cruzer "1G" holds only 976Mb. Short almost 30 Meg

Summary: (Edited June 15th by UTKEngineer) Originally I tried to use the drive with a freshly reformatted system. When I tried to reboot with the drive attached, my comp froze before loading windows. I visited windows update, installed everything and now my system runs fine with the drive attached, reboot and all.

I'm a little peeved about being shorted nearly 30 Meg, but 976Meg is still a heckuva a lot of storage.

The drive is the essense of simplicity to use. Plug it up, use it just like an on-board drive, wait till the light stops flashing, remove the drive and you're golden!

I HIGHLY recommend this product!!! Especially since the price keeps dropping!

Strengths: Fast, durable and fits into spaces that others won't

Weaknesses: Nothing worth mentioning

Summary: I bought a 256mb over 9 months ago and found so many uses for it I needed something bigger - 1gb does the trick (for now).

Strengths: Size of unit, size of storage... Blazing speeds. Works great with the MP3 player (optional purchase).

Weaknesses: As of yet, no weaknesses

Summary: I purchased 2 of them, one for files (huge files) and the other to load my MP3s on & use in the sandisk cruizer MP3 player (optional purchase).
These were a huge jump from the flash drives I already owned, I jumped on the boat when they first appeared on the market & have a host of smaller devices, now instead of a pocket full of drives I use one that I can hardly fill.

As for the people saying 'hey where is my 1 GB' & 'missing 30 - 50 MB'...
Tell me something, dose your 80GB HD show in your system as being 80GB... NOooooooooooooooooooo.
I suggest you read up on how PC's read drive sizes & why.

Back to review.
Best 'gadget' I have bought over the years that actually has a purpose, bonus is the drastic price drop right now.
Be smart, buy a couple while they are cheap as the prices will skyrocket before Xmas... give them as gifts & people will think you spent 3 - 4 times as much on this very thoughtful gift.

Experience: 2 Weeks

Strengths: Very fast access, lots of space, lightweight

Weaknesses: No hole for keyring

Summary: I love the speed of the Cruzer Mini. For most of what I do, I copy files over the network. But on the occasions when I need to carry something with me, so that I am sure I have it, this is so much better than a floppy disk! There is plenty of space for even the largest files, and it is very quick. In fact, I was able to copy two complete installation CDs onto it at the same time, and the setup ran perfectly. If you have USB 2.0, you will not believe the speed!

Strengths: Works very well and is very fast.

Weaknesses: Short about 50 megs in room for a 1 gig.

Summary: Have only purchased Lexar prior to this. Bought this on the strength of the reviews here and the price here. It was the right thing to do. Very happy!

Experience: 2 Days

Strengths: Very, very, very small. Looks good. Huge size. Locking program is great. Way better than the "switch" because if someone tries to use it, you can lock them out with a password.

Weaknesses: Can't get it to work most of the time, and Sandisk's website isn't all that good.

Summary: I got this little guy about three days ago. When I first got it, I ripped open the package and stuck into a computer with Windows XP Pro. Error message came up that the drivers did not install correctly. Stuck the guy in a second computer with Windows XP Pro, and it worked fine. Got to play with it, play with the included password protected program. Everything was great. Brought it to work and put it into a computer with XP Home and the same error message as before came on.

I've gone to the Sandisk website, and downloaded the driver. However, if you have XP the program shuts down because "XP doesn't need a driver." I'm now contacting Sandisk directly through e-mail. We shall see where this goes. They recommended I format the disk, but I cannot if I do not have a computer that recognizes it.

If I get everything fixed, and working properly, this will be my favorite toy for a long time.

Strengths: Great size and capacity and very good price.

Weaknesses: NA

Summary: I really like this product. The form factor is great and the price is very competitive from a well known and trusted brand name. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a small, compact, high capacity storage and file transfer solution.

Strengths: Slender, compact, and works on keyboard USB ports due to its low power utilization.

Weaknesses: Does not come with a lanyard and neck strap, which makes it inconvienent to carry (i.e. when you bend down, it falls out of your pocket).

Summary: A great product that I use daily to transfer and transport large files between my workstation and the LAB, and between my workstation and home. The additional CruzerLock software that is included additionally helps me keep sensitive data secure in case I happen to misplace my SanDisk and allows sharing and synchronization of files between an online share and my SanDisk. Very convenient.

Weaknesses: none

Summary: One of my favorite toys. I carry several of the mini-cruzers including the titanium for the most important files. Be sure to check out Beyond Compare to compare files and only load the new ones from a folder, etc. BC is one of my favorite programs and a must if you want to keep track of what's on your regular hard drive vs. the flash drives and ensure all files are up to date on all drives. There is nothing more maddening than trying to figure out which file is the most recent, and BC does it in a heartbeat.
