Pacific Controls, Dubai, Creates a World Record by E-enabling 125 Dubai Development Board Buildings in 120 Days

Pacific Controls Systems (LLC)Dubai,UAE, announced the successful completion of their project for the Dubai Development Board (DDB) to install web-enabled remote monitoring systems for 125 government buildings. It is the first time in the world that 125 buildings were e-enabled in just 120 days.

Dubai February 1, 2004 -- Pacific Controls Systems (LLC) announced the successful completion of their project for the Dubai Development Board (DDB) to install web-enabled remote monitoring systems for 125 government buildings. It is the first time in the world that 125 buildings were e-enabled in just 120 days.

Pacific Controls Systems' (PCS) well-established 24-hour control room continuously monitors the DDB buildings. The control room operates all year round using the latest SCADA software technology and has the capability to monitor over 10,000 remote sites and over 500,000 alarms.

At the press conference Mr. Ahmed Thani Al Matrooshi, Director General Dubai Development Board said, "With over 300 buildings and 7000 homes under its management, the Dubai Development Board is one of the largest facilities management organizations in the Middle East. In order to efficiently handle the facilities management issues of these buildings, the DDB embarked on a project, in line with the government of Dubai e-government policy, to establish remote monitoring capability of all their buildings using web browser technology."

"Pacific Controls Systems was awarded the task of installing web-enabled monitoring systems in 125 DDB managed buildings. Using the latest telemetry technology, Pacific Controls monitoring solution will enable key DDB employees to remotely access critical engineering services in all their buildings from anywhere using a normal Internet browser. The project was completed in just 120 days making it the first time in the world that so many buildings were brought online in such a short time frame," he added.

"Every monitored building is equipped with a unique building data server located in the electrical room of the building having the technology to integrate multiple systems and enable the control and monitoring of input/output signals. The building data server is wired to various equipments such as AC unit trip, fire alarm, lift panic alarm, pumps, water tank level and cameras for real time viewing," said Mr. Dilip Rahulan, Chairman and CEO, Pacific Controls.

"The e-enabled building data server (BDS) consists of a cost-effective industrial Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), which serves web pages for remote viewing and controlling from any computer using a standard Internet browser. The BDS is wired to two Etisalat telephone lines, with one line completely dedicated to report alarms and the other used to access the building from remote locations via telephone dial-up," he added.

This gives DDB employees the flexibility to access their building control systems and even monitor TV surveillance at anytime, from anywhere just by making a local call.

"The remote monitoring service has brought many benefits for the DDB. This has increased customer confidence. PCS Control room has already helped to detect and correct numerous faults in the buildings preventing future problems and complaints. The early diagnosis of equipment defects during the warranty period has also helped to ensure that contractors carry out their responsibility of providing quality products and services, thus saving the DDB money and inconvenience due to plant and equipment failure. The camera systems have improved the performance of the security on duty and thus contributed to greater tenant confidence," added Mr. Ahmed Thani Al Matrooshi.

This state-of-the-art technology has been deployed in a very cost effective manner to optimize the operations of the DDB and improve their facilities management services. The project of making the buildings intelligent and accessible through camera for critical services response was first-of-a-kind in the Middle East.

"The DDB have experienced the results of better customer satisfaction, efficient service and productive management to enhance profitability. With specifically tailored solutions for a range of applications, Pacific Control Systems hopes to offer more businesses similar opportunities to reap the benefits of the remote monitoring service," concluded Mr. Rahulan.
