NHRA Pro Stock Leader Dave Connolly Unveils His New Cobalt With Royal Purple

Porter, TX May 1, 2005 -- Royal Purple? is pleased to highlight Dave Connolly's new 2005 Chevy Cobalt with a "purplicious" paint scheme. Connolly's new car will be unveiled at the upcoming NHRA race in Bristol this weekend. It will not only be tagged with the Royal Purple logo but running their products as well.

"Connolly is currently the points leader in the ProStock divison and is making an impressive mark in the racing industry, just like Royal Purple is working to do, says Director Of Marketing And Corporate Communication, Mark McFann. "I have to admit that I was blown away when he said that he would only accept sponsorship and run product from a company he believed in. Dave is a young racer with incredible potential not only as a racer but, as an ambassador for us.

"We have seen impressive gains since having Royal Purple as a sponsor," says Connolly. Because of our belief in their product and company we have designated quite a prominent position for their decal on the new cobalt. They've helped put the Bullet Motorsports Pro Stock Cavalier in the winners circle three times in 2004 and we are looking forward to enjoying the winners circle again in 2005 with them."

Connolly and the Bullet Motorsports team are already in Bristol, preparing their new Chevrolet Cobalt for its NHRA drag racing introduction at the O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals next week.

One Cobalt was built by Jerry Haas, the other by Jerry Bickle. Crew chief Terry Adams plans to test both cars and use the one with the quickest elapsed times in competition. What that means is that Adams must "retire" the Chevy Cavalier Connolly has driven to all of his five wins.

"I really hate to park this car," says Adams. "This car has been running very, very well."

Fred Simmonds, GM's drag racing boss, believes the Cobalt will be quicker and faster. But Adams can't be faulted for wanting to keep the Cavalier in the line-up. Out on the track, Adams tunes the car to run like an expensive Swiss timepiece.

The Connolly family has three national event victories this year. Dave's dad Ray won the Super Comp title at Houston (April 10). That was his fourth in NHRA's Sportsman competition. Father and son won on the same day at the Chicago 2 last October. Ray, a member of the Bullet Motorsports team, was cheering for his son at Vegas.
