Strengths: Multi Functions, Ease of Use, Value, Compact size, and Cost to operate

Weaknesses: Dim LCD display; No sheet feeder

Summary: I purchased this All-in-One (AIO) for its Functionality (Print, Copy, Fax, Scan, and Photo Print); Value (quality at price point); and Total Cost of Ownership (ink operating costs).

For functionality, this little AIO does much and it does it suprisingly well for being a low to mid-end AIO. At $65 after rebates and coupon at Staples, print quality and color copy quality both exceeded my expectations. I have not yet Scanned, Faxed or printed photos, but it comes with a decent suite of software for performing all these functions. It also had drivers for Win 98 bundled on the CD, so I didn't have to download them. Also loaded software on Win XP without a hitch. It also supports Win 2000/ME/XP not to mention MAC. The size is very convenient and setup and use have been a breeze.

In researching for an AIO, I wanted not only to not spend too much, but I didn't want to spend a lot when it came to replacing the ink. With this AIO, it has 4 cartridges (1 Black and 3 independant color ink). This makes it more efficient on color ink replacement. Also, there are some good sources of Generic cartridges available like where you can get a 10 cartridge bundle (4 black and 2ea of color) for only $28.07 with free shipping! You cannot even buy one Lexmark or HP cartridge for that price. If you have kids like I do who like to print every neat picture they see, you will want to consider that.

The only two minuses I find are the dimmly lit LCD display and the absence of a sheet feeder. The sheet feeder I can live without, but if you do a lot of multi page faxing and scanning, then you might think twice. I would have to say that the LCD is the only thing I can knock it for. However, I have discovered with better lighting, it helps. Don't plan on putting this is a dark corner of the room and expect to read the display.

Overall, the value of this AIO is very good. You will need to get a USB 2.0 cable and has them too for only $8 for a 10' cable.

Very pleased with purchase.

Hope that helps.

Summary: This model uses multiple ink cartridges - when one empties, you only need to replace the color that's out.

I've enjoyed using it like a copying machine without the computer needing to be on.

It's easy to send a fax from the console.

I have not tried to use the memory card reader yet.

Experience: 1 Weeks

Strengths: Compact design, lots of features, separate color ink tanks, standalone faxing, top-loading copier/scanner

Weaknesses: A little slow, noisy, not ideal for printing pictures

Summary: My wife really needed a copier at home since with 2 kids it was too hard to constantly be going out to make copies. So, I did a little research and was going to actually buy the Canon MP390 since a lot of people wrote good reviews on it, but then I saw a great deal for this printer at BJ's during Thanksgiving. I read the reviews here and at other places and basically decided to give it a try (I paid $60 for it after $60 in rebates).

I've had it for a week now and it definitely more than meets our needs. As I said the immediate need was for a copier and it does that...and MORE.

Copy functions - It's great that this is a top-loader so you can place books on top to make copies instead of it just being sheet-fed. You can reduce/enlarge, make color copies, etc.

Fax - I personally wanted a standalone fax and this is great for that as well. There is no automatic document feeder so that is a little bit of a pain, but everything gets stored in memory and Brother has basically worked out a workaround for the automatic feeder here. You can also send PC faxes but I haven't tried that yet.

Photo printing - I have to say that I am somewhat disappointed by this. I didn't buy this printer for the main intention of printing photos (I use Winkflash for that, by the way), but I did think it would be nice to print one-off photos. I did some tests, and maybe it's because I haven't worked out the kinks or learned all the features, but the color of the photos is very washed out and pale looking...not very vibrant. Also, you could see a little streaking which I wasn't too psyched about.

Scanning - I haven't tried this feature, nor do I really intend to, but it's a nice addition.

A couple of other great things about this printer:

- separate black, blue, yellow, red ink tanks so you can replace each individually as needed
- my wife really loved the design - it's very sleek and small not big and bulky like others I saw.

Overall - for the price, I think it is a great deal and does everything that I needed it to do.

Strengths: Easy to use, ink is inexpensive, multi-functioning

Weaknesses: Photos doing come out too well and scanned photos come out even worse.

Summary: I got this all-in-one as an early Christmas present. I am very pleased with everything about it except for the quality of the pictures I print. I expected them to come out better. Pictures from my digital camera came out a 7 on a scale from 1 to 10, but a picture I scanned in the computer myself only came out about a 3 on a 1-10 scale. I was quite disappointed with that.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with this all-in-one because of the ease of use and the multi-functions. I copy frequently. It's so easy now when someone says, "Hey, could you get me a copy of that recipe?". I just go right over to my new copier and copy it. That is the feature I like most about it.

Summary: I bought this machine for my husband. I wasn't convinced that we really needed this all-in-one "toy". Now after only a month of ownership I don't know what we ever did without it. When you need a quick photocopy, no more inconvenient trips to search for a copy machine that works or a shop that is open. Here you have a copier right at your finger tips. Within the first week we used the fax, copier, printer, and the scanner. Who would have thought that these options were necessary for home computing. We love how the machine saves space (1 machine instead of many). I am finally convinced that we "needed" it. Buy now so that you get a $30 rebate. This offer seems to end by Jan 1st.
