Best Part is the Battery This little computer has an outstanding six cell battery (beware of the Best Buy version which has a lower capacity six cell battery). I can use this computer on and off for a few days and the battery will still have 30-40 percent of charge left. Screen resolution can be changed to fit larger pages in. Screen is nice and bright. Speakers aren't that good. You have to turn up volume to max just to hear sound at a low volume. I purchased a set of HP USB powered mini notebook speakers which work great. Trackpad is good with two fingered scrolling instead of the usual side scroll which I always found annoying. Buttons on trackpad take hard pressure to click. Keyboard has nice layout without too much flexing. Computer seems nicely built and solid. It is a bit thick and heavy, but it is worth it since the battery is so good. ...more info
Exactly as I hoped it would be I received my new Asus EEE1000HE last week and so far am very pleased.
It is almost as fast as my larger Lenovo T42 laptop, but has even more hard drive memory. I will be taking this with on long distance motorcycle trips with very little room to pack a bigger laptop, and will now be able to do a little work when I get free time. The battery life is exceptionally good even with the bluetooth and the webcam turned on. The keyboard is a comfortable size and easy to operate, though the trackpad buttons are a little stiff.
If you are looking for a good portable computer, I recommend the Asus EEE 1000HE.
I will be installing a 2 gig ram, soon, but it works well as it came out of the box....more info
The Perfect Gift I bought this for my sister as a birthday present, she had a old dell laptop that was so slow and was a mess.
She has only had praise for the 1000HE netbook. She loves the portability and the speed. She said she is going to take it on all her vacations to back up photos, internet searches..ect.
I had only a little time to look it over, but I was impressed with the size of the keyboard and the style. Boot up times are fast and I had no problems with connecting to wireless. I was happy to see the little case that came in the box as well as a well designed (small) power brick.
I did a lot of research and read many reviews before I decided to purchase the ASUS Eee 1000HE, but the best thing is to see my sister not frustrated and smiling again....more info
Great little machine for a good price I wanted a less expensive alternative to a laptop. I really didn't need a lot of bells and whistles, but something that got me on the net and did some other basic stuff. I'm not a techie so won't give you a techie review like some others.
My first impression was boy is this thing small. Took me just a little while to get used to the smaller keyboard. I like the keyboard and I'm a fast typist. It doesn't slow me down (especially if I keep my nails trimmed). It's quiet and I've gotten used to the smaller shift key. I am pretty impressed with the battery life. It goes for several hours before the battery gets low. I upgraded to the 2gb memory from the 1gb the netbook comes with. I'm not sure there was much of an improvement. I would suggest trying it for a while with the 1gb before upgrading. If you do upgrade, changing the memory out is really simple. If I can do it so can you!
I've only had this machine a little more than a week, but I've been using it a lot. I haven't really noticed any problems with noises. It responds great and is very quiet. I like that you can adjust the screen brightness very easily. The machine does put out heat so you'll want a laptop desk of some sort to protect your legs if you are holding it on your lap. I got a nice brown/aqua one at Best Buy for under $30. About the only complaint I have is one I knew about and that is that the shiny shell attracts fingerprints like crazy. I was using the small cloth that comes with it to wipe it down each night. I ordered a skin for the "lid" at [...] That took care of the fingerprint problem. I also ordered a screen and keyboard protector, but they aren't here yet. I want to keep debris off the keyboard. I am not too crazy about the screen size because I've got to scroll a lot, but it's okay and what do you expect when you order a 10" machine? :)
All in all a great machine and I'd be happy to answer any questions for someone thinking about buying this netbook.
Excellent item Pro:
-Light (only 3.2 lbs)
-Easy to travel around with
-Excellent keyboard for a 10.1 inch netbook (Easy to type on)
-Excellent battery life (standard use with minimum setting on would last up to 7 to 8 hrs, if you're really pushing the limit, then it would be 9.5 hrs)
-Battery is easy removal part.
-Installation is a simple click, no cd or anything. Plug and play.
-Build in camera (not the greatest but it still take O.K. pictures and video.
- The textures is nice and easy to grip so there won't be any slip and the netbook won't be on the ground in pieces.
-Hooked up to my 46 inch lcd tv, perfect quality just PERFECT.
-Wireless internet is a snap to set up, just click click and its connected.
-Comes with a case, but the case would be way better if there was a pocket to store a additional battery (not like you would need it, but in case.), wires and other etc.
-Mousepad is a bit off. In my opinion I rather stick with a mouse than a mousepad. Guess that's up to my view.
- Absolutely no cons. Just perfect and fit my every need.
I would definitely purchase a 8.9 inch netbook similar to this one just smaller to hook up to my 46 inch lcd tv when I bring this netbook with me for school.
Goes everywhere, Does everything I love the Eee 1000HE. It goes everywhere with me, unlike the large 6lb tanks that I have used in the past. Battery life is incredible; to maximize, turn off the bluetooth and wifi, turn down the screen intensity, and set on power save mode Fn(spacebar). I got a real 9 hrs, time after time. Buy the 2GB Crucial memory (cheap, and installed in about 4 min.), a bluetooth mouse, an external USB DVD drive, and a DIFFERENT CARRYING CASE. A case that will hold a few more gadgets like gps puck and your digital camera, and has a carrying strap and handle. You can always crank up the speed by hitting the Fn(spacebar). The included Docs are poor, but there is an Online EeePC community that provides excellent info and how to's and tweeks. I did not know for a few weeks that the Eee 1000HE has an SD card reader. Since the keyboard is small (but still works), I find that turning off the touchPad prevents errors. I have hooked up my wifi camera, the bluetooth printer, bluetooth gps, and I continue to be amazed. I have data stored in the online Asus 10gb cloud (free), but have not really seen the need because of the 160gb onboard. It is no wonder this has become the #1 best selling laptop on Amazon....more info
Perfect Netbook Got mine a couple weeks ago. Very impressed. Won't go into all the pros and cons just read the hundreds of reviews. Read hundreds of reviews about many different kinds of netbooks and found this to be the best in most categories.
Have copied movies onto it after many many hours of reading posts and learning how to do it. Now WMP will play what I have copied. Haven't tried wifi except at home looking forward to trying it soon out in public. One thing I did not think about until it became a problem is that the hard drive is partitioned so if your c drive fills up start adding files to your d drive....more info
9.5 hours on battery is possible with EEE PC, upgrade ram first Great little computer. Upgraded to 2gb ram before installing my software, but for $20 it was an easy choice and super easy job (must update BIOS to see 2gb in system info).
I do recommend "sharing" your optical drive on a networked computer for software installs, but any usb optical drive can plug in easily too.
My packaging through J&R had popped airbags so the inner PC box was slammed around a bit, but I never would have known if someone else opened it for me. Keyboard size is a bit smaller, but easy to adjust to with extended use. Screen size is more of an adjustment if you're used to large/wide screens. My only reason to rate it down is that I would like to see more resolution options from the video card. Buyers should be aware in this PC segment already though.
I have yet to save and run movies. Streaming and wireless are as fast as your network....more info
Little Eee PC 100HE is Amazing What a great web device, I recommend for your first netbook. The ASUS beats the HP in Battery Life, Screen Finish, and Hard Drive Space and also the ASUS comes with a recovery partition for an easy, complete, and fast (only 10 minutes!) reinstall of your operating system....more info
Best Netbook out there! After reading all the good things about the Netbook, I had to get it.
First, it is lightweight and portable. Some sacrafices are made for this size. There is no DVD drive or number pad on this unit. If you need those items, go for a much larger Notebook. That being said, this Netbook is great! Yes, I did install the 2 GB of 667Mhz memory. That was one easy upgrade. Next, I wanted to see how it worked on a newer version of Windows so I installed Windows 7 on the second partition "D" drive. The 160 GB hard drive is already split in two so I figured that was perfect for my test. The best thing is, you don't need an external DVD drive to install the OS. You just download Magic Disc,
( http://www.magiciso.com/index.htm ) and it will make a virtual DVD drive for you. Then mount the iso on the virtual DVD drive and install! Very easy. I haven't tried to mount a DVD movie on there yet but I think it will work. Just need an 8GB Flash drive to transfer it.
Anyway, I love the keyboard and controls. Not worried about fingerprints on the outside. This Netbook is a "Take anywhere you go" unit that is very fast and portable. Well worth every dollar. Runs Windows XP and Windows 7 RC like a charm with no problems. One thing to do is if you run it without an ac adaptor, the backlight will go down and make it hard to see. Just press fn plus F6 and it will lighten up as you wish. I highly recomend this unit.
what's diff in ASUS 1000HE and ASUS 1008HA i need help.

ASUS EeePC I bought the EeePC to use when traveling. I got tired of having to go to the cities' library and wait to use their machines. This PC rocks!!!! It is so easy to use. I especially like how fast it responds. Never having used a netbook before I'm still getting used to the light touch. I would highly recommend ASUS to anyone who wants a light, fast machine that doesn't take a 2 pound manual to learn to use....more info
Is it possible to fall in love with a computer This Asus net book is performing well beyond my expectations. Both my Mom and I received our new toys about a week ago. Based on the research and reviews about this net book, I was under the impression that there would be no multi-tasking. This turned out to be false. We can open multiple browser tabs and several applications at once. Page downloads are very quick and the screen resolution is amazing. In fact there are only two negatives I would like to discuss. First, the touch pad is very sensitive. This can be solved simply by getting used to it though. Second, the shipping from Amazon wasn't that great. We ordered our net books at the same time. When they arrived, there was no protection like bubble wrap. As a result, one net book was DOA. However, the customer service from Asus was quick and Amazon shipped a new one out the same day. In a nutshell, this is a great computer that is quick, fun, multi-tasking, and portable. In fact I am typing this while camping. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a secondary computer....more info
Useful little compy, one major flaw. Don't get me wrong, I love this little guy. I'm a mobile professional whose constantly on the lookout for products to help me be more mobile. I don't mind spending for things that help me to be more productive while increasing my mobility. That being said this little guy has accomplished that task (better than my MacBook Air running XP). In comparison, the 1000he runs XP, and MS Office better than my AirBook. Apple's bootcamp drivers for XP on the MacBook air aren't really sufficient which is why I looked into a netbook and thus purchased the 1000he. The previous reviewers have done an excellent job covering the assets of this little system and I agree with the vast majority. Here's my point of contention with the little guy....the touchpad sensitivity blows! It routinely selects items and text on webpages and documents unintentionally making it particularly difficult to scroll up and down a webpage without accidentally clicking links to other pages. This is not a function of the touchpad's small size, it's just extremely sensitive to the point of making the "tap to click" feature unusable. Really I don't take the 1000he with me without also taking a bluetooth mouse. I'm sure there'll be folks who disagree with me on this but I've never had this sensitivity issue on any other touchpad laptop I've owned including the MacBook Air. All in all this is a great little computer but the touchpad issue for me is huge and thus the 3 stars....more info

Pleased with performance but not shipping USPS seemed to be dragging their feet as the tracker showed "Arrival Scan" followed by at least a five-day wait. We chose the free shipping, so cannot complain about the wait.
I was dissatisfied with the packing method however, where the boxed-up computer was placed in the shipping carton with no packing material surrounding the computer box, allowing it to slide around. Believing that the shipping carton was probably not always handled gently, I imagined how the computer box could have been bouncing around inside the carton. It should have been protected with cushioning material.
I enjoy the little netbook and am happy with its performance. I installed the 2 gigabyte memory card prior to the first use. Boot-up is surprizingly quick, and the processor is fast. After setting it up on my wireless network the first time, it quietly finds the network on each startup. I'm using a USB mouse because it's quicker for me than the touch pad. I'll probably purchase a Bluetooth mouse soon. When using the touch pad however, I find no problems with usability after getting used to it. The keyboard takes a little getting used to due to size and location of keys, but I expected that. You just have to be careful not to inadvertently hit the "Enter" key instead of "Shift" or you might close a transaction prematurely. I plan to use the netbook for paperless Geocaching, so loaded GSAK and it runs faster on the netbook than it does on my desktop machine. I'm looking forward to using it in the car to help navigate and provide Cache details in addition to the bluetooth connectivity allowing transfer of data to the Palm or Garmin GPS. I believe it will be worth the money....more info
More power than my old Gateway AMD 1800 I followed the advice of others and upgraded to 2gb memory before powering up for the first time. What amazed me is how much faster this was than my AMD 1800 Gateway laptop. Bear in mind, I had just re-imaged that unit, so it wasn't like it was laden with spyware. The wireless worked well with my Linksys WRT150N. (channel 11- 2.462GHZ, standard 20MHZ, using this to avoid conflicts with my 2.4ghz phone)
Pros: Sharp display. Long battery life. Best processor on the market. Wireless works everywhere. Router in the basement, netbook on the second floor of a two story house, no problem. The built in wireless on my old Gateway never would work there. Two finger scrolling on the touchpad is nice. Screen hinges look like they will last, very industrial. Adjusting to the smaller keyboard is going well. Looking forward to using a bluetooth mouse. Lightweight. The travel bag it comes with is fine. Easy to fit this in the bag I bring to work.
Cons: Partitioned hard drive. I get the idea that this is for recovery, but would rather do that over a network. I'll probably change this later to one 160GB HD. Yes, it is a fingerprint magnet, but you can live with it. Overly sensitive keypad. Need to adjust this down.
Recommended upgrade: Go for the extra memory.
Other notes: I looked at everything out there, and this seemed to be the best. Would not go Dell as it seems their quality has suffered. Using this for email, ITunes, Movie Magic Screenwriter, Microsoft Office, Firefox. My high schooler keeps borrowing it. Probably will get her one too. ...more info
