- Processor: Experience improved energy efficiency, expanded wireless connectivity, and amazing battery life with the 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 processor featuring Intel Centrino 2 technology. This processor has a 2.4 GHz processor speed, super-sized 1066 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and a extra-large 3 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
Formerly codenamed Montevina, Intel Centrino 2 processor technology improves upon every facet of a laptop's main features, including performance and battery life via new processors and chipsets, faster draft 802.11n wireless, and new business-class manageability capabilities. The new hafnium-infused circuitry--which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors--conserves even more energy, giving you more time away from the wall outlet.
The Intel Core 2 Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and it can run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background.
- Hard Drive: The extra-large 500 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (5400 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.

- Memory: The 6 GB of installed RAM helps boost the amount of available video RAM that's shared with this notebook's video card. This notebook has an amazing 8 GB maximum RAM capacity (4 x 2 GB). To receive the faster data transfer benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.
- DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.
This LightScribe DVD¡ÀRW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 101-key keyboard (with integrated numeric keypad) and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad. It also includes two quick-launch buttons (HP QuickPlay Music and DVD).

Delivering state-of-the-art graphics performance, The GeForce 9600M GT graphics card is sure to give you the power and performance you crave to play the hottest DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 titles. Its 16x full-screen antialiasing technology delivers superior quality along with astounding performance and since it's optimized for Windows Vista.
The Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound, and it also includes SRS Premium Sound. You'll be able to privately share enjoyment of multimedia with a friend via the dual headphone jacks.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
Be ready for the next platform in wireless connectivity with the integrated quad-mode Wi-Fi chip. Based on the draft 802.11n Wi-Fi specification, it offers up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range as existing 802.11g wireless. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and Wi-Fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments). With the integrated Bluetooth connectivity, you can communicate and synchronize with Bluetooth-enabled peripherals such as PDAs and cell phones.

- Acceptable PC
Acceptable. That's the word that comes to mind with my new HP HDX16. I would not call it spectacular or awesome. I just cannot win. Right out of the box the HP Media smart says it has stopped working, well that is because it does not have that upgraded feature on the machine that comes with the TV tuner. I did not order it nor did I really want it but now forever and ever I will get this dialogue when I flip on the computer. Why the heck does it take forever for a Vista computer to boot up? Just give me a freakin reason. My wife can get on her Mac Book Pro and check her email, bank account, and school tasks before I can even get the browser to open up. The HP has a top of the line processor labeled Genius, well I think Britney Spears was once labeled a genius too. So here we go again: constant updates, reboots, upgrades, reboot, buy this antivirus, required update, etc... All I want to do is my power point presentation, all I want is to do is Skype, I just want to listen to my music, etc... But as with every PC you've got to be a database administrator before you can you use a PC as an essential tool to your everyday life. Maybe I rely on these things way too much. I just cannot win. ...more info
- Nice computer with a couple minor issues
I just purchased this January 1st 2009. All in all a great computer. Really nice display. It feels solid. The camera works great. It has a real nice sound. I would purchase it again. I would also recommend it to a friend.
Here's the case I also purchased from Amazon. Miltigiant 20 Largest Multi Design Nb Case. Copy and paste in the search bar.
But let's get to the complaints.
I use Filemaker all day. The arrow down key is already starting to wear to a solid black. I would say that at my rate the silver should be gone by the end of the year and I will have a black key where the arrow down should be. All other keys look fine so far. My Thinkpad is 5 years old with 5 years of Filemaker use and still doesn't have any signs of wear on that key or any others.
I don't know how to describe the feel of the keyboard other than saying it feels worn out, cheap, imprecise. Very noisy compared to my old Thinkpad. Clicky. If the keyboard is your most important criteria I highly recommend you go try one of these out at Best Buy or WalMart before purchasing. That way it won't be a big shock when you get it.
Right above the power button there is a vibration at the speaker that sounds like the speaker is distorting. It is not. All you have to do is press slightly on the mesh and it will go away. I would attempt to fix this, but I have external speakers, so I won't be bothered often.
Right where my hand rests on the front, I get a squeek from the seams in the plastic. Not a big deal for me. It could be bothersome to some. You go to put your hand down and "squeek". You lift it back up and "squeek".
I wish there were some sort of rubber plugs to fill all the open "peripheral" holes to keep them clean over the next few years.
This is a 64 bit edition of Vista. AutoCad 2004 doesn't work on it and AutoCad could care less. AutoCad says I need to upgrade. This is not HPs fault or Microsoft. I just thought somebody might want to know before it's too late.
Some of my Adobe programs have issues with Vista 64 which Adobe has no plans of addressing.
What's funny is that I have a picture viewing program that I purchased in 1996 that runs just fine.
When I get a chance I'll post a picture of the key that is wearing.
That's it. ...more info
- HDX16 HP Pavilion Laptop
This is by far the best computer I have ever owned. My old HP was also great, but it would overheat at times like many of the older laptop models do. This computer is awesome, and comes packed with so much power for a very reasonable price. It also looks very sleek, and has some "extra" features that I really enjoy (including the finger scanner that I originally underestimated as to it's convenience...very useful!). You won't be disappointed if you buy this computer!...more info
- A Nice Computer
In the world of cheap laptops this is not a cheap machine. This is my 4th large screen HP laptop and by far the best. A faster processor, beautiful 1080p screen, increased RAM, larger hard disk, and blu-ray/DVD drive all enhance the user experience. Improved shell design eliminates the visable wear problems associated with the earlier HP laptops. Cooler operation negates the need for a lap pad or lap cooler. Overall, it is a very nice laptop with reasonable battery life and weight. Certainly not a light weight but not too heavy. I would prefer Windows XP over Vista but have found only one program that will not run under the installed Vista Premium (64 bit) operating system. Regardless Vista improved significantly with SP1 and is not nearly as difficult as it was originally.
Initially I was hesitant to purchase from Amazon due to errors in the product specifications information (the screen resolution information was in error). In the end, after looking at numerous internet sites, Amazon had the best price. I opted for the super saver shipping and the computer was delivered within a week of purchase....more info
- Excellent product
Came on time. Easy to set-up (much easier than I had anticipated). Is performing very well. The only problem I've had so far is I can't get the fingerprint reader to recognize my prints (which is frustrating, but not the end of the world). I did tweak the software and settings a bit to increase performance and am very pleased with the results. Love the options and functions....more info

- HP HDX review
HP Pavilion HDX16-1160US 16.0-Inch Laptop (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 Processor, 6 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium)
- best bang for the buck in comparing to other units in specs of size of hard drive, GHz & ram.
-As usual dealing with Amazon was smooth
- Vista sucks compared to XP
- pretty cheap not to include a lock when you close the screen
- Volume of speaker not very loud
- way to glary of a screen
- key board does not give me enough space to place my left hand (trade off having separate number pad)
- The 16 inch screen has less height to look at documents then the 15.4 inch screens
-the metal looking plastic going around the body makes it look cheap and may come loose over time...more info
