Customer Reviews:

  • The only detector that doesn't annoy me with false alarm warnings.
The accuracy and being able to eliminate false bands that come buildings closer to the roads. The Escort Passport 9500ix doesn't look all that different than it's many predecessors. Don't let that fool you. This is one VASTLY improved device. I've owned several prior Escort Radar detectors. I've also owned the Cobra and Valentine One detector. I wouldn't trade my 9500ix for them.
Another thing I like is the built in mute button located in the power cord. Instead of having to reach (dangerous while driving) across my dashboard - I can push a button on the power adapter and mute the detector.

    What I like:
    - barely any false alarms
    - pleasant alerts
    - shows current speed when alerting
    - integrated GPS remembers where I've locked out a false alarm
    - mute button on power cord

    What I don't like
    - nothing i can think about.....more info
  • Escort Passport 9500ix Satisfaction
This is the best radar detector that I have used so far. It has been extremely accurate. It has simple features that can be adjusted easily. GPS feature has pin pointed all of the Redlight Camera's. The voice feature also pin points the exact signal that this being monitored. Buy this radar if you are looking for state of the art performance.

  • Best detector I've ever owned
The 9500ix is the perfect radar detector. It's quiet, has great sensitivity, and alerts to Red Light Cameras.

I have used, in order, the Passport 8500, Passport 8500 X50, Valentine One, Passport 8500 X50 Rev. 5, and now the 9500ix. The 9500ix beats them hands down.

Why? It has great range, seems to have a sixth sense for cop radar, alerts to Red Light Cameras (which are a major hassle in my area ... the fine is over $400 each including fees), and it's quiet!

If you use a chatterbox V1 that makes you think your head is about to explode, give the 9500ix a try. You will be amazed how well a detector can work while still being super quiet....more info
  • Escort Passport 9500ix
This unit is even better than I expected. It performs well and the blocking of false alerts really works. The unit can also be updated on a regular basis, though for a fee. Highly recommended....more info
  • The right stuff.
You've come a long way baby. This 9500ix is pretty incredible. I remember when these things were four times larger in size and had a bad habit of squawking all the time. How do they cram so much smart technology into such a small package - radar and laser detection, GPS location, database memory, voice feedback?

Real world: I find it impressive when I back the car out of the garage and the sexy voice comes on saying "GPS signal acquired" while I'm still in the driveway. I know it's redundant but I like the speedometer function because on those interstate runs it's more accurate than the optimistic analog dash speedo dial. Detection/performance of course is the big deal you're paying for and it just flat out works - from experience I know when I hear a beep, I find it wise not to think I'm smarter than this device. In the high level operation mode it's really slick and simple - when you drive by a shopping mall you want it to ignore, or when you drive by a radar trap location, you just hit a button and they're logged into the memory. Great packaging inside and out - outstanding piece of road gear!...more info
  • Escort passport 9500ix
    KICKS butt

I love how it automatically finds the false alarms and stores them as well as the red light camera feature is nice as well.

    CONS

I always unplug it when I leave the car and when I hook it back in, It sometimes takes a bit to turn on. This is the second one I have tried, might be the model, or I'm thinking the cord.

  • The Escort 9500ix is amazing!
The Escort 9500ix is amazing! Quietest detector I've ever driven! I've had other top detectors over the years and my biggest complaint has been annoying false alerts all the time.

But the 9500ix (using GPS) remembers all the false alerts on my route to work and automatically blocks them out. I can also lock out the local bank or 7-eleven that made my old detector beep. When the unit goes off, it's ACTUALLY a patrol car shooting radar.

The 9500ix comes with an awesome power cord that puts the mute and volume controls right on the plug in my console. And I love the bright blue display! You'll have to logon to the Escort web site to register and download GPS updates for red light cameras, but no big deal. Again, extremely quiet and high quality construction. Looks great, too!

  • Totally worth the expense!
Lets just say I was a bit skeptical when my dad, a lifelong Passport driver, told me to ditch my Cobra detector and buy the Passport 9500ix. Thinking he was just partial to what he knew, I asked him why I should spend so much more on this detector. After going through a laundry list of why (better radar detection, GPS technology, it saved him from a ticket on a recent drive to Columbus...) I relented. SO glad I did! As soon as the detector came in the mail, I opened the box and my immediate reaction was: SEXY! The 9500ix is way sleeker than my old clunky Cobra. As we all know, looks arent everything, and the 9500ix doesn't stop there. Mounting the detector to my windshield was easy, and I was off and on my way to see how well my new investment worked.
The street I live on has a 90 degree curve where cops love to wait to pick off unsuspecting drivers. My old Cobra never picked up the signal going around the curve, but I was at least 750 feet away from the curve, and my new 9500ix has already alerted me to the cop--from around the curve! Not only did the 9500ix alert me with sound, the bright LED screen told me my exact speed I was going when it sensed the cop's radar, which instantly tells me if I need to slow down. Wow!
It gets better from there: after only 2 days of driving around my neighborhood, no longer do I hear the chirps of X band as I go by Walgreens or Krogers, as the detector has locked out the signals. After driving for years with my old Cobra going off for every door opener around town, the silence on my detector is amazing--now when I hear the 9500ix go off, I immediately slow down and sure enough, yards away is a cop waiting to ticket an unsuspecting driver. From now on, the "unsuspecting driver" wont be me. If you dont want it to be you--get one now. You wont regret it....more info
  • Worthless if the database is not updated
As the 9500ix is a fairly significant investment (at least for me, still a young working man). I updated the firmware and put the latest November data on it and drove around with it. It did not alert me to the speed cam at Pima just north of the 101 in Scottsdale (which has been there for as long as I have been in AZ). It alerted me to cams on 101 southbound on Scottsdale that were not there and another on jackrabbit road near Chapperel (sp?)... it also alerted me to the one on Frank Lloyd near Trader Joe's (is that one active?). I'm concerned it is way out of date and will not be useful, especially considering the new cameras on the 51 and elsewhere in the valley. Without alerts to the speedcams, what's the point? That's the sole reason I bought it. :(...more info
  • Weary
I've had this radar for a few weeks now but I'm still cautious because when the alarm is given, I'm less than a quarter a mile away from the police. No tickets yet but I still drive very close to the speed limit until I gain more confidence in it....more info
  • Incredible Product!!!
I recently purchased a Passport 9500ix and can honestly say it is by far the best detector I've ever owned. As a previous owner of several other brands including Cobra, Whistler and a V1, this one is light years ahead.

From the moment I mounted it in my car, (which was super easy with their mount) I knew this one was different. I proceeded to mount it on the glass and started driving it without even looking at the owner's manual. As I began to drive, I was alerted to several door openers that my other detectors didn't even see, which to me indicated that it was far more sensitive. On my way back home, along the same route, I was alerted once again to these same door openers. At this point I began to remember why I quit driving with a detector many years ago....false alarms! Now that I had a more sensitive detector, I was wondering if I could stand to hear all of this noise everyday.

The next day I went to work, (close to the same route as picking up my kids) and I was pleasantly surprised when I passed these same spots again. The 9500ix beeped once and displayed the word "stored". Not reading the owner's manual, I had no idea what this meant. When I arrived at work I grabbed the owner's manual and read it at lunch. To my surprise it meant that the 9500ix had locked out these locations, knowing they were false alarms. How cool is that? Now that they were locked out, I couldn't wait to drive by again and see what it would do. On my way home, sure enough no alerts. Only a small indicator in the upper right side of the display rotated, indicating it saw these false alarms but no audio alert was given.

The following day I was in route home from work enjoying my new detector when it began to register a Ka band radar alert. I'm not completely sure what the difference is between all of the radar bands, but I began to take notice and checked my speed. I drove almost a mile wondering if this was a false alarm. Sure enough, as I turned the corner, there was one of our local police officers sitting along the side of the road. I had sniffed out my first alert, and in plenty of time to check my speed.

As someone who has used several other brands and grew accustomed to false alarms, let me assure you this one is different. Better sensitivity without the constant beeping. I'm not sure why it took me so long to try a Passport, but I will say that I will not be driving without one ever again.

  • WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!
Wow! This is one sweet detector! I've had decent detectors in the past, but the Escort 9500ix is in a class by itself. Great range and awesome styling. The GPS feature inside locates those infuriating red-light and speed trap cameras and I've started locking out the false alerts that drive you crazy. It even shows my speed on alert. This and the GPS feature alone makes it worth a $100 over the competition. The 9500ix comes with a nice case, cool power cord, and bright blue display. It also has a USB port for downloading updates. Who knows what they have planned in the future! You won't be sorry, this is the best! ...more info
