The Nintendo DS Lite is a high-powered handheld video game system in a sleek folding design loaded with features for a unique gaming experience. The color screens are now even brighter and the lower touch screen provides a totally new way of playing and controlling games. Use the built-in wireless mode to share games, chat or even play multiplayer games on-line via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Play impressive 3-D rendered Nintendo DS games and play all your favorite Game Boy Advance games in single player mode. Nintendo DS Lite comes with a variety of distinctive changes that set it apart from the original: It¡¯s less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter. Its two bright screens can be adjusted to four levels to adapt to different lighting conditions and to extend battery power. The microphone sits in the center of the unit and the LED lights are clearly visible whether the unit is open or closed. The stylus is 1 centimeter longer and 1 millimeter thicker than the stylus of the original and slides into a side storage slot. The Start and Select buttons were repositioned for easier access. A removable cover keeps the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot clear from dust and debris when it¡¯s not in use. With the Nintendo DS Headset, you can talk and chat over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection or voice command games.

Nintendo DS Lite Limited Edition Pink Ribbon
DS Lite Wi-Fi
System:
With Nintendo DS Lite, dual screens and touch-screen technology allow you to interact with games like never before. Wireless communication allows you to experience real-time multiplayer gameplay, and the free Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service allows you to compete against players from around the globe.

Dual Screens:
Two incredibly bright LCD screens offer one of the most groundbreaking gameplay advances ever developed. Each 3-inch screen can reproduce a true 3D view, with impressive 3D renderings that can surpass images displayed on the Nintendo 64.

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection:
Ready to take on the world? Now, with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, you can connect wirelessly, chat and play with Nintendo DS owners across the globe. All you need to play is a Nintendo DS and a Wi-Fi-ready game. There are no subscription fees -- the service is free!

Touch Screen Technology:
The lower screen offers something never before provided by any dedicated game device: touch-screen capabilities. You no longer have to rely on just buttons to move your character or shift perspectives. Navigate menus or access inventory items simply by touching the screen with a stylus or fingertip. The possibilities are limited only by developers' imaginations. The touch screen features a tougher film cover for durability, and the included stylus is stored in the back of the unit.

Microphone Port:
A built-in microphone port means that with Nintendo DS, you only need to tell your games what to do. The Nintendo DS microphone gives you even more ways to interact with your favorite games.

Wireless Network:
With Nintendo DS Lite, you can connect with a local wireless network of up to 16 players. The wireless range can be an incredible 30 to 100 feet and for some games, multiplayer requires just one Nintendo DS game card.

Note: Nintendo DS Lite wireless communication, including PictoChat, is not private and is not monitored by Nintendo. We recommend that you never reveal any personal information or arrange to meet a stranger.

Rich Stereo Sound:
Nintendo DS Lite sound capabilities allow for greatly expanded use of voices and music, and a richer, more immersive game experience. Stereo speakers allow for virtual surround sound and a plug for headphones transmits stereo sound.

Backward Compatibility:
Nintendo DS Lite features a separate media port for Game Boy Advance cartridges, allowing you to play all your favorite Game Boy Advance games in single-player mode.

Customer Reviews:

  • Excellent system for puzzle fanatics
I chose the DS Lite over the DSI because I don't need any of that gimmicky stuff. All I want to do is be able to play puzzle games while on the go and the DS Lite does that for me. This system has lots of puzzle games. Professor Layton and The Curious Village, Phoenix Wright, and Henry Hatsworth are just a few of the great puzzle games that will give your brain and intense workout. For those looking for great puzzle action, this is the system to get. ...more info
  • keeping the brain sharp
After playing brain age on my son's DS, I decided I needed to keep it up! Takes only minutes, and it does keep one sharp..........guess this is more a review of the brain age games (1 & 2) than of the DS. :o)
I can recommend the silver color over the ones that have black near the screens. Easier on the eyes....more info
  • Very Fun!
From my eight year old: "The nintendo DS is awsome. When you play with it it is so cool. It is a perfect gift for a kid over six. The rose color is pretty like my Grandma's roses.

Awesome- you have to play it!"...more info
  • Fun For The Car And Rainy Days
The Nintendo DS Lite was a "must have" on my daughter's Christmas list. Somehow Santa managed to get her the Metallic Rose one that she had to have. I must admit that I was quite surprised by this little gizmo's abilities. Not only does it feature two very well lit screens, it also has Wi-Fi capabilities allowing my daughter to connect with all of her friends.

Like the old GameBoy, it features traditional buttons used to play games. It also features a stylus which gets a lot of use from my daughter when she is writing notes to friends.

The DS Lite is the perfect toy to bring along on long road trips or even for long lines at school during drop-offs and pick-ups. Whenever it's raining outside, my daughter will settle in somewhere in the house and play her DS Lite games.

The nineteen hour charge claim is true. So far there have been no problems with the system losing its charge too quickly.

Overall, I was quite surprised at how much fun the Nintendo DS Lite actually was. I've always personally felt that portable gaming systems were greatly inferior to their sit-at-home counterparts. However, the DS has made a true believer out of me....more info
  • DS is cool
I bought my son this DS to replace one that he has had for 2+ years. This is one of his favorite toys and even though he is very young it has lasted for him. He has dropped, chewed(!) and generally been a kid while playing the games- he also increased his reading comprehension using it. I recommend this version as it does not have the camera or the extensive internet connection that the DSi will have. ...more info
  • My DS.

  • Great
I purchased this Nintendo DS for my son who is 8 years old. He dropped his previous DS in the lake and I did not want to buy a brand new one. When he got the package he was excited. It was practically brand new. He doesn't put the game down. It works very well. He loves being able to pictochat with his brother and his other friends. He favorite game to play on the system is the Pokeman Diamond and Pokeman Platinum. It keeps him entertained....more info
  • Perfection, miniaturized
Wow the game boy has come a long way from the 4AA battery green-screened monster I remember. I am impressed with the build quality of this DS lite, in fact I was so impressed that initially I wanted to buy another one just to show my appreciation to the company who makes it.

Good job guys, keep it up!...more info

  • Review of the Green Spring Bundle
I am only reviewing the lime green Spring Bundle, not the DS Lite itself or the game. This bundle has a DS Lite just like any other, except it's radiative green. I was afraid that the green would be so bright that it would affect gaming. However, that is not the case. The bright green color does not distract you from viewing the dual screen. The carrying case has a pocket to hold the DS Lite and two flaps, one flap can hold 3 styluses while the other flap can hold 3 game cartridges. Design of the case is very attractive and the material seems to be of good quality. There is no place to store the charger so keep that in mind. It's not that easy to close the case, because you have to get a button through a loop on the leather strap. The action is not hard, but does take more time and effort than say a zipper or velcro. Everyone who has seen the carrying case loves the look. Make sure you can live with the color before buying this bundle. ...more info
  • GOOD FUN

  • Never thought I'd play video games. . .
I've never been one to play many video games though I'm surrounded by three guys (husband and sons) that think all varieties are great. After seeing more and more software come out for the DS that actually looked interesting to me, I broke down and purchased our first DS Lite. Wow, I'm having a blast with this thing! I keep it in my purse and can play a quick game when I'm waiting for the doctor, picking up kids from practice, etc. My kids were originally dismayed that I was only buying "edutainment" type games, but even my youngest is totally hooked on proving his brain is as big as his dad's. Not being a previous gamer, I love using the stylus to interface with the games instead of trying to figure out where/how to use every finger while losing focus on the games themselves. Of course, the traditional controls are still there for the kids to use when they plug in their older Gameboy SP games. The screens are bright and the images sharp. The sound level is fine for personal play. This product has completely revolutionized gaming to include the non-gamers like me. I'm even thinking about getting a DS for my parents to pass time with when they have appointments and such, it's that intuitive and entertaining! But don't misunderstand - from the gamer standpoint, the DS is a winner, too. My husband really didn't expect to like "real video games" on the DS. After playing with mine, he sold his PSP and is going to buy another DS!...more info
  • Great brain exerciser in a cute and handy size package!
I got the DS Lite and Brain Age for myself for Christmas. Amazon as usual got it to me promptly and I was thrilled. I added Flash Focus from a local store and used it mostly daily for a month. It was a lifesaver during Kentucky's recent Winterstorm. I had it charged up and it was great until we got the generator and then since I was housebound for 6 days helped me keep sane by having something fun to do. I was a little afraid to try my computer on the generator - did not want to risk it and we did not have phone/internet anyway.
I am over 55 and I love the DS Lite! ...more info

  • A significant improvement over the original, and still has its place alongside the DSi
I originally bought the DS Lite as a replacement for my old "Original" DS. My problem with the original was that I used to take the bus a lot, and the old DS screen was very glare prone, and not at all bright enough to be usable outside. I used to get frustrated that all I could see was my own reflection on the screen.

Thankfully, the DS Lite offers much better backlighting, allowing three brightness levels, so I can use the darker setting when playing indoors to get less eye strain and better battery life, and kick the brightness setting up when outside to cut through the glare.

There are a few other major improvements, as well. For one, the power switch has been reimplemented as a slider-style button on the side of the casing, and the Start and Select buttons have been moved to the bottom of the right side of the lower screen. This solves one of the original DS's MAJOR design flaws: It was all too easy to accidentally press the power button instead of the start or select buttons, losing all your progress since your last save.

The DS Lite is also much smaller and lighter than its bulkier predecessor, which means that you can fit it into your pants pocket fairly discretely and without the continual slapping against your thigh. On the other hand, the smaller size can take a bit more getting used to for those with larger hands and/or longer fingers. It also means that the "Slot 2" slot for GBA cartridges and optional accessories (like the rumble pack) protrude from the casing. It DOES, however, come with a "dummy plug" cover that fits into the for GBA slot to provide a fairly smooth edge to the casing while keeping dust and foreign objects out.

All in all, the DS Lite is a significant improvement over the first-generation DS.

The decision to purchase a DS Light or a DSi really comes down to tradeoffs based on what you want to do with it: The DSi comes with a music and video player built in (functions that require third-party cartridges and accessories on the DS Lite), as well as downloadable content from the DSi store. The DSi also comes with built-in cameras, which are not available for the DS Lite, but lacks the second slot for GBA games or Slot 2 accessories....more info
  • Brilliant!
Entertaining. There are games my 5-year-old can play by himself, that I can play by myself, and that we can play together.

Durable. It survived a week-long trip overseas in the care of a preschooler.

Long-lasting. It lasts more than a day, even when left on stand-by.

Love it. Can't wait to get my own!...more info

My boyfriend bought me a Nintendo DS Lite for Christmas and it was the Mario game bundle so my Nintendo DS LIte is red with a big ingraved M on it for Mario. My son who is 6 years old and loves video games plays it all the time and I only got to play it when he is at school. My son has
about 20 games and he loves when I sit down and watch him play.

Now I have a NIntendo DS lite of my own and its pink and I get to play it when I want to. I love Nintendo Ds because it fits in my hand and I feel I have lots of control and I love the two screens. I like all of the games that it comes with and you can take it anywhere....more info
  • Nintendo did it again
I'm just adding in my vote(like really even needs it). I love this system, everyone I know loves it. What can I say the people at Nintendo are geniuses and know how to make video game systems that people will love forever. The games are fun and innovative, and will remain entertaining for years. Sure I'll get burnt out but I always come back to find them just as fun as when I first bought them. My only complaint is that sometimes I'll play so much that its tiny d-pad makes my thumb sore....more info
  • This DS Rocks!
I bought this a year ago for my grandson who was 7 at the time. This model outshines the older Ds's. The screen is better and brighter. Very sturdy. He has had it for a year and has droped it a couple of times - but it till looks and works like new. This is a MUST for a gift list. All my grandchilren have them (5) and they love them. I have one and I'm almost 60! The bad part about me having one is that I traded mine with my 12 yr. old grandson because his was older - This one is a lot nicer - you can see details a lot better.
