  • update issues
Purchased Trend Micro Pro recently after I broke my Kaspersky disk. Works fine for awhile, then will update itself, but get stuck on the installing updates part. It will run all night and never install the update. It has happened twice. Last time I had to re-install the whole program. This time I had to use a special uninstall tool provided by Trend Micro because the normal Windows uninstall wouldn't work. Trend Micro stated a "Serious Error has Occurred," and suggested using the tool. I am now going have a different Security program standing by for when Trend Micro fails again....more info

  • Looks like a good product
How do you review an Internet Security package? Well I had to think about that and this is what I came up with.

    1) What I want more than anything is to be protected from viruses, phishing attacks, and intruders of all kinds. Does it protect me while I'm doing some online purchasing or banking? Some of this is hard to test without deliberately accepting a virus or phishing attack which I wasn't about to do. Some of the professional reviews did thorough jobs of checking these features with mixed results - hence my 4 stars instead of five. This is the most important feature and I'll leave it up to the experts to sort it out.
    2) How easy is the software to load and operate?
    3) Does it in any way hinder the normal operation of my computer?
    4) Does it have the set of features I expect?

Trend Micro Internet Security Pro (TMISP)did a good job in all aspects as far as I could tell.

I loaded this software on a fresh build on my laptop, a brand new Windows XP Professional system with all new drivers. It loaded without incident in only a matter of minutes, then asked if I wanted it to check for online updates which I did and there were none. I was able to set up the features I wanted quickly and easily using the rather easy to understand Graphical User Interface.

I checked the boot up time for windows before loading TMISP and then checked after loading it. The first time I did this it took some extra time, apparently to set it self up. The subsequent start up times were not noticeably slower than without TMISP.

I tested the TMISP firewall by turning it on and attempting to connect to the computer from two other computers on my home network. The firewall completely blocked my attempts. I then turned off the firewall and the program warned me that I had turned it off but allowed me to disable the warning; nice.

This product is feature rich including everything I was looking for and a couple of things I wasn't expecting. It protects email, internet transactions, keyloggers, and some web browsing. One of my favorite features is I can load it on up to three computers for the price of one.

A nice built in graphic display of my home network is a bonus. Also in the Pro version there are some additional tools such as a dashboard showing how many threats were encountered and protected.

I was able to turn on automatic updates so my virus protection will always be up to date.

So far so good. I'll update this review if I find anything to complain about but for now I'm happy with this product. I do intend to install it on my three home computers and replace the software I had been using. Norton was a heavy load on my computer and I'm glad to uninstall it (if I can!). So far TMISP isn't impacting my computer the way Norton did.

The Amazon site does a pretty good job of exposing more features but there are more than listed. To me this is a keeper....more info
  • Great buy Great product
When shopping for some protection I did a lot of snooping around the internet including Amazon for reviews and opinions. At the time I had Norton 360 that came with my new laptop and it was time to renew. When I saw the price for a two year renewal I thought it's time to see what else is available. As far as Im concerned Norton has priced themselves out of the market.(especially for how bulky Norton is and how it slows down my computer)
Of all the different protection programs I have used over the years I believe Trend Micro Security Pro is the best. Easy to load and very user friendly. (make sure you totally remove your previous protection)
I loaded it in about 10 min's, ran a scan and Trend Pro got 16 spy ware hits that Norton missed. Also I did not realize how slow my laptop had become with Norton until it was gone. Works great with both Vista and XP.
If your looking for protection I highly recommend Trend Micro Pro!
Thank you Amazon for both a great price and very fast service!...more info
  • Not the best.......
I currently use Norton Internet Security (NIS), upon reviewing Internet Security Pro (ISP) I can say that it is not as good as NIS, and also falls behind Bitdefender Total Security. It's not so much that this is a bad program, just that the others are better. Slow down is worse than NIS. The offer to use on 3 PC's is nice, but it seems they all offer that option. Things I like include: you can remotely lock files (incase your pc gets stolen); you can extend protection to your smartphone; and you can limit your children's access and time on the internet (a very nice feature, but also available on the regular version of this software). I had no trouble installing this (on an older PC). I can not say anything about virus detection/repairing as all of my systems are clean (thanks to NIS....which found and cleaned infostealer after my father-in-law came to visit). I have used this software for over 2 weeks and still do not like it is as much as NIS. I would recommend either of the other two suites over this one....the interface is not as nice as NIS either....in short, try one of the other two suites I mentioned. Both will make you happier....more info
  • Good Protection, Fast Scans, slow initial load time
I have been a big fan for Trend Micro for the last four years; however, I made the switch away from Trend Micro when the 2007 version came out. Many security vendors continued to make improvements on the resource usages every year. Trend Micro was getting worse with the initial load time. The load time for the security suite 2007 was too slow for my taste.

I figured I would give the 2009 version another chance. Once again I am not impressed with install and load times. The install too long because the update process, The load time after reboot continue to be a drag. Once loaded Trend Micro does NOT take a large amount of system resources and the scan time are fairly quick. However; I have decide to uninstall it and use other product because of the initial load time / update process.

The pro version is packed with many features, including my favorite the keystoke encryprtion. This will prevent any software application from stealing information as you type.

I would recommend the product for the protection value, scan speed, and the small load on the system resources and if you do not mind the initial load time then you will be completely satisfied. I just hate slower boot times. There are better products out there when it comes to preventing spyware/malware, so I recommend just using an additional anti-spyware program to overcome that. (Adware 2008, Spybot, Spyware Doctor Starter Edition)

  • Four and a half stars
This internet security system is quite impressive. It installed easily and has proven to be most comprehensive. I especially like the network security--it not only protects your computer but also checks for any problems in your wi-fi system.

I originally had Norton and, literally, it crashed my computer. It had to be replaced (the computer, not Norton). When I purchased my new one, the store recommended Trend Anti-Virus which was installed. It was much more limited in its coverage than this version. I'm very pleased and highly recommend this more comprehensive security system....more info
  • Good core product, some extras that are not needed.
I have the non Pro version and picked up the Pro version. Overall the core areas of the product are good. The virus protection and parental control are very good for most users. The Pro version tries to add some extra features for more money but I'm not convinced they are worth the extra cost. They are not bad to have but not worth the extra cost and most people probably won't use them or know how to use them.

For the core piece of the product which is virus protection, you can't go wrong with Trend Micro. They are a very good virus company and are used in the corporate world as well. So if you are looking for a good virus software with parental controls then stick to the non Pro version. If you feel you need some of the extra features of the Pro then its not a bad price but in the end you may be spending money for things you don't need or won't use. ...more info
  • Not Bad
When comparing Trend Micro's Internet Security Pro with McAfee's VirusScan Plus, I found that both do their jobs well. I am especially impressed with their site advisory systems which enable the user to surf the web without fear. I did find that the Trend Micro system was a bit more of a resource hog, so it loses a star over that. Easy installation. Internet Security Pro also warns you about suspicious emails and IMs. It's not a bad system at all. 4 stars!...more info
  • Solid security solution, a little buggy, but very good
I've used my different anti-virus and security applications on many different computers over the years, and I'm reasonably impressed with Trend Micro Internet Security Pro. The application is easy to install, it's easy to adjust the settings to fit your needs, it automatically updates regularly, and it identifies threats that some other applications miss.

I've been running two other security and anti-virus applications on my computer over the last year and neither of those programs identified a Trojan Horse that had been installed on my computer. After I installed Trend Micro Internet Security, it immediately identified the Trojan Horse and quarantined the file to protect my computer. I did a Google search to find out more about the quarantined file (to make sure it was a Trojan Horse and not a safe file that was misidentified) and sure enough it is a known malware/Trojan Horse file that compromised my computer's security.

Thankfully, this application identified it and got rid of it.

Now, here are the minor problems I have with Trend Micro Internet Security: First, even if I set the application to only update at a specific time it will sometimes update immediately after reboot even if it has already updated the security software that day. This is good if you want to make sure your security files/virus definitions are up to date, but it stinks if you don't want the program downloading updates all the time.

Second, depending on the number of start-up applications I have running on my system, Trend Micro Internet Security Pro sometimes generates a strange error message telling me to stay off the internet until my parents have changed the parental controls. I'm a 31-year-old adult who is married and has a kid of his own. I disabled the parental controls (because my 2-year-old isn't using the computer yet) but I still get this strange error message about 50% of the time when I start up my computer. If the parental controls have been disabled (turned off) I should NOT be getting error messages telling me to stay off the internet until my mommy and daddy fix the computer.

Hopefully these two problems are corrected in a future update.

Overall, I still highly recommend this software for people who want to keep their computer's safe. I just hope the update schedule controls and parental control issues are resolved with a future update from Trend Micro....more info
  • Trend Pro is the Way to Go!
This is a product that I have had the pleasure of using before the Vine Program. The Internet Security Pro was introduced last year in 2008 and I used it then. The difference between the regular and Pro versions of the Trend Micro Security Suite are the additions of some very handy computer management features. These include a System Tuner module that includes a Registry cleanup scanner, Startup Manager, Privacy Manager, a Remote File Lock service that protects important documents remotes by password protected backup, A Trend Micro Toolbar that includes a WiFi detector, keyboard encryption protector to thwart keylogging attempts has also been added. New for 2009 TM also includes a phishing page rating button, A Dashboard to track security threats encountered by the software and a Security Suite protector for your mobile smartphone! The software works smoothly, installation of the 09 version was faster than last year and it self configures. While you can review several options, the important ones are already configured. Use of the extended Pro Features is optional. Trend Micro makes a very solid product that does not bug you with too many pop ups and runs smoothly. The few times last year I needed to contact Customer Service, they were quick and problems were taken care of ASAP. I was pleased to see this in the Vine program. Some things I love about TM Pro include the Startup Manager to stop excess unneeded programs from launching on startup, the scans are deeper and show both time elapsed and percentage of the computer left to be scanned. I had tried Norton 2008 and it did not find as many items and when it did, you still had to manually remove them yourself. TM finds and removes items automatically. Norton also excessively updated itself in same sessions. TM keeps you safe and protected without nagging you. I had purchased their Smartphone security before the new 2009 version came out and am pleased with that as well. It is a nice addition to the Suite. I highly recommend Trend Micro Pro they have made an already good product even better, backed by support that actually listens to your concerns....more info
  • Good Product--Liberal Licensing May Be Attractive Feature
As a somewhat lay user of computer and internet security programs, I have found myself comparing several security suites. As a long time McAfee user, I am appreciating the quality and sometimes the "sameness" of the products. The questions I have decided to focus on are: (1) How easily and how efficiently is the loading process and related to that, (2) How much impact does the software have on the smooth and efficient running of the computer compared with its past performance? (3) Does it do what it says it will do and in an efficient and efficacious manner, and (4) Are there any new risks or problems to concern the user. It seems to me that beyond any significant discrepancies in those 4 questions, the major determiner for the user is brand familiarity or price point.

After one aborted effort, I was able to easily install the software by following the instructions. Fortunately, I had no problems like some of the other reviewers on here. I have not noticed a significant slowing of my desktop computer arising from this product but there was drag on my laptop but I am not surprised because of the limitations of the laptop.

The Micro Trend Suite does offer a fairly comprehensive package of resources to protect your computer and your identity. Included in this product are identity theft protection, anti-phishing/anti- pharming protections, anti -virus, anti-spyware protection, anti spam protection, and enhanced firewall protection. Whew! Additionally, there are parental controls, WiFi hotspot verification, encryption tools, and an "optimizer" to help clean your registry, disk, and program fragments.

So far, all these resources work and seem to work as presented by Micro Trend. Again, my question is why is this product superior to any other protection suite on the market. Certainly they all seem to offer the same resources and protection tools to varying degrees of efficacy and, indeed, many of these tools and protections are available through freeware. I feel this is a good efficacious product that does what it purports to do and contains a plethora of protective tools in one suite...and the bonus may be that fact that it can be used on three different computers under licensing. As I stated earlier, since all the products I have been reviewing seem to be basically comparable in the tools and resources, the user's familiarity with a brand or a desired price point may be the determiner of choice.

  • Easy install easy to use
After removing my old software, Trendmicro Internet Security Pro was easy to setup. Disk loaded, installed, and activated with registration within 10 minutes. Found 6 threats in quick scan, I checked for updates and then scanned my computer and found 9 more in full scan that took a little longer to run. Has features I never used before like system tune up. I like the setup of the screens, picking what you want to do in tabs. Has auto updates and email control, keeps track of your home network. I am loving this product.

  • Intuitive but slow
Well, I was looking for a product to replace my McAfee. While McAfee does catch a lot of the problems, it is a huge resource hog and it slows my computer down when it is scanning and updating. So much so that the computer is virtually useless during those times, particularly online.

The Trend Micro Internet Security Pro has a couple of extra features so I don't have to use as many solutions, and it's intuitive. Saves a lot of time in that regard, but I still have problems with slowdowns when the program is running an ap-a scan or an update.

On the other hand, the Trend Micro Internet Security Pro gives you a license for 3 computers and the price for this product is very competitive.

So I'd use it over McAfee, but if you're using the computer for professional reasons (which the title implies you will), the slowdowns can be frustrating. You're trying to process an order or answer a customer's questions and...wait wait wait...a bit of a problem. Yet I find I'm not as frustrated as I was with McAfee. This software seems to get the job done more quickly. I'll stick with this until I find something faster. Otherwise, I'm quite pleased....more info

  • A great, innovative option from Trend Micro
    The Good:

    * Set it and forget it
    * Traditional firewall and scanners you expect from a suite and then some
    * Innovative features like anti-theft protection, keystroke encryption and wi-fi detector on your browser(tested on IE and Mozilla)
    * Provides Mobile security for many PDAs as well

    The Bad:

    * Anti-Theft protection could've been extended to do much more

    The Bottom Line:

A great product from Trend Micro. Once you install it, you forget that its even there. It doesn't bug you for every little thing like other suites tend to do. It provides a powerful protection silently in the background. Of course you may choose to do scans manually. It has firewall, virus scan and a tune-up scan. This is also a great suite for laptops as its easy on the resources and provides Wi-Fi security on the browser's toolbar. It will let you know if the Wi-Fi you are using secure or not, in addition to whether or not the website you are on safe or not. The anti-theft lock feature is a mixed bag but is still a good addition to the suite. In a nutshell, you set up a master password(which if you ever forget, they will email it to you.) You have the option to lock a folder where supposedly you keep all the private data in. If your PC/Laptop gets stolen, nobody will be able to access that folder. All you need to do is go to Trend's website and report your computer stolen. Once your lost computer goes online, that folder will always remain locked, even if they know the password to the vault file. My only gripe is: If its possible to lock one file, why not have the ability to lock the entire computer while you're at it? However, that minor ding will not stop me from recommending this product to others as I hope I never get to use the benefits of anti-theft features. ...more info
  • Worst Antivirus EVER
I've had PC-Cillin for years. When it came time to renew I bought this product. I can't open multiple internet windows without it freezing up. Trend Micro's customer support are RAGING idiots. This program has turned what was a useful working computer into a pile of useless plastic and metal. I have to turn off the antivirus protection to use the internet. And then sometimes it freezes. I thought it was just me but since I installed it on 4 computers and they ALL have the same problem, it isn't that hard to figure out. I am DONE with Trend Micro. Money completely wasted. I've tried everything to fix it to no avail. Great job Trend Micro!...more info
  • Trend Micro Pro
Great product. I have used Trend Micro for several years and have been very happy with the basic product. I bought the PRO this time to try it out since it was about the same price. It has some extra features which really slow down web surfing. I have disabled most of them. I think they would be ok if someone was really new to the web or not sure of the web sites they visit.

I did not find that I needed the extra security at the expense of the much slower time it took to open sites. It is nice that you can turn the extra options on and off easily, since it adds the new options to the toolbar. It has wifi advisor which I will use more on my laptop. It also has a keystroke encription and a page rating for websites.

I have always had great service from Trend Micro and the program is very good at running in the background and not taking over your computer like other security programs. It has protected my computers well over the past 4 years that I have used it. I highly recommend Trend Micro. The four stars were because of how slow PRO works when everything is turned on. • Solid but intrusive antivirus with the usual flaws
I've used TM Internet Security for a number of years now (not the Pro version, as it only adds a few extra features which I have no need for). Overall it does a nice job of keeping out the viral crap that plagues the net and for me at least has prevented (I assume) any serious infections and intrusions on machinees running Windows ME, XP, and Vista.

The most serious difficulty I've had with TMIS was during installation (it is essential that you uninstall prior versions when upgrading) and that was pretty frustrating.

In day to day operation the package has an auto update feature which can be extremely annoying unless you have a very fast net connection, therefore I wouldn't use this product on a netbook or laptop which connects from various locations. Of course you could run it sans auto update, but - thats a risky proposition. Also, the system scan process should be done only during off-hours as it imposes aerious drain on system resources. In layman's terms it's kind of a pig. Doing anything substantial simultaneously just isn't worth the pain.

One last note: I've tried most of the well known security products and frankly they all have problems of one sort or another. It's all pretty annoying. Since I've retired from 30 years in the IT field, and I no longer need to bend over to the Microsloth trolls, I'm in the process of moving my main netbook and laptop to Linux and my next desktop build will definetly be Linux... its just a better experience in so many ways.

If you need IS then this product will do it (and so will a number of freeware titles like AVG and Avast).
