- Bio-Brite SunRise Alarm - Awesome
I bought this is a gift since I love my own Bio-Brite SunRise Alarm so much. It makes getting up in the dark of winter a whole lot easier. The alarm is easy to operate and does what it says it will. The light is bright enough to read by. I only wish it contained a radio as well......more info
- Great wake-up alternative, if a overly expensive and slightly flawed device
It is abit overpriced but I cannot deny its quality. Very easily assembled, with a sleek new age techno look. The glass half globe is pretty thick and looks durable but its still glass. It is a breeze to program ( assuming you read the instruction book) but the simplistic menu takes awhile to scroll through, not a big deal considering you really only need to program it all once.
It has a clock which can be switched to military time. A programable alarm time. A sundown feature in addition to sunup and you can program how long the sunup and sundown times are (individually). It has a security feature that has it randomly light up at night so it looks like someone is home while your on vacation. The light can be turned on independently so you can use it as a night light. And this model has a "white noise" feature that sounds like radio static to help you sleep, and it can be turned on and off. And it has a backup beep if the light doesnt wake you.
It isnt perfect. I wish the light got alittle brighter, I would really like to be blinded at maximum illumination, but it is pretty good. Perhaps in the future I can find a stronger bulb that fits. Also the white noise isnt smooth enough to help me relax. That being said it works well for me and I'm happy I bought it. Even in a sunny room ( my apartment shades are crap), the light is enough to wake me up slowly and naturally ( AS LONG AS I"M NOT DEAD TIRED), and if it fails theres always the backup beep. And the sundown feature is really great for helping me to fall asleep. Just make sure to put it as close to your bed as possible.
In closing if you can handle the price tag and your not a very heavy sleeper and your sick of being rudely awakened by a blaring alarm...buy this product now.
- Poor quality!
I was really disappointed with the quality of this clock, especially given how expensive it is. I set the fade-down/sunset to 60 minutes, but it finished in 40 minutes. When I use it along with setting the alarm, the sound comes on once the light goes out -- even though I have the sound set to off! I just about jumped through the roof when this happened.
The white noise is really awful; it sounds just like television static when there's no reception. Insult to injury, the clock doesn't even look like the picture, because the buttons are black instead of white. Plus there's a noticeable bubble in the glass globe that's really obvious when the clock is lit up.
I'm in the process of trying to return this clock. It's a fantastic idea, but the quality is so shoddy that the clock isn't even usable....more info
- Mixed Emotions, but Sweet Resolution!
I love the concept and loved the alarm -when it worked. I bought it about 3 years ago, and just beyond the warranty date I began having trouble with the rate of sunrise/sunset...WAY faster than whatever setting I chose (15, 30min, etc -it would come up in a couple of minutes -not a relaxing awakening at all!!). This was a pain because I would have to unplug and do a hard reset to get it to act right, and in 24hrs...same problem came back. But I loved this alarm and paid alot for it, so I decided to make due. Then the plastic button that allows to you dim the light and make selections completely broke off into the housing. I went another month using the alarm with a large sharpie marker by the bed to stick into the hole and operate the broken button, but I could only stand to do this for so long. Now I'd LOVE to replace the clock with a newer, improved model, but I'm afraid these look exactly the same (just offered in white now)-not sure if there are other changes. That said, I STILL love this clock!
LATER... I must add that the manufacturer offered to make all these repairs for a small fee (this is way beyond warranty date). Will let you know how it goes.
NOT long after... Wow. What a great company: Bio-Brite. They fixed my clock for a very small fee and way past warranty date. AND they were unbelievably fast! I am SO happy to have my sun-rise alarm back -and just in time to start Dental Hygiene School (long days ahead). ;) Thank You, Bio-Brite! If I knew how, I'd add another star to your rating!!...more info
- I heart this clock!
This clock has changed my life! I actually wake up naturally refreshed in the morning instead of being jarred awake by a screaming alarm clock. The clock is expensive yes, but it has been worth every penny for me.
The sunset feature with the white noise is actually a nice feature as well because I have a hard time falling asleep.
If you have a hard time waking up to audio alarms, then get this clock, it will work for you. :)...more info
- I love it!
I honestly had my doubts that this thing would work for me. However, I was having so much trouble waking up in the morning that I was willing to try anything. To my surprise, waking up gently to rising light levels really helps. I love it!...more info
- Triathlete Approved
Before buying this clock, I read all 40 reviews that existed on Amazon because I wanted to see if other people thought it was worth the money. $100+ is an extraordinary amount of cash for a clock, but I needed something to get me out of bed while it was still dark outside in order to get to the gym and to work earlier. I received the clock one week ago and read the instruction manual before attempting to use it. The manual explains the operation procedures clearly and concisely. The is not too difficult to use, and it does the job. I use the 30 min fade up feature and have consistently woken up 15 - 20 mins before the alarm is set to go off b/c of the light, even for a 5:30a wake time. I can't say this product will work for everyone. And yes, it is, as some people have said, a glorified light bulb in a glass cover, but this past week is the first time in well over a year when I have not shut off the alarm and reset it for a later wake up time so that I could catch some more zzzzzzzz. ...more info
- great item
I love these clocks. We are light sleepers in our family. I needed a way to wake up my children who are in school without the alarm waking up my toddlers who I would prefer to sleep in. This is a great clock. I agree with the other reviewer that my only complaint is that it does not have battery back up. I own three and I like them....more info
- Despite the faults, can't live without it
One of the most unnatural (and unnerving) experiences I can think of is being blasted out of a sound sleep by the blaring of an alarm clock, and I felt this way even before owning a sunrise alarm. Waking suddenly to a radio station, no matter how soothing the music they might be playing at the time, is not much better.
The key to a sunrise alarm is it wakes you GRADUALLY, by slowly brightening a room, the way a natural sunrise does. I cannot stress enough what a satisfying, comfortable and refreshing way to wake up this is. Most mornings I sloooowly come out of sleep, crack an eyelid, notice the room is brightening, close my eye and drift off a bit . . . this happens three or four times, each time I'm more and more awake. By the time the light is full on and the *gentle* alarm beeper sounds I'm usually stretching, fully awake. I've come to love this alarm as one of those gadgets I can't imagine doing without.
My friend was skeptical about using a sunrise alarm since he is a VERY deep sleeper. He bought one on my recommendation and found it only wakes him up about half of the time. He has to use a conventional clock radio as a backup. He's happy to put up with this though, because even the times when the sunrise alarm isn't enough to wake him, they seem to bring him up to a much lighter level of sleep, so that the clock radio is not nearly so jolting. He loves it and swears by it even though it's not enough to always wake him up by itself.
Still, there are a few cons:
It's expensive. Seems way overpriced for what is essentially a 60watt lamp, digital clock, timer and dimmer circuit. While the globe is of high quality, the base, display and controls look and feel cheap.
Setting the time and programming the alarm is a bit counter-intuitive, it takes some time to get used to it. You'll get plenty of practice though, for two reasons. The clock keeps lousy time. Mine seems to gain almost a half-minute a day. Also there is no battery back up. You must re-program it every time there is a power interruption, which is unforgivable at this price.
Even with these complaints, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another - I dread the idea of having to go back to a conventional alarm clock....more info
- Less Groggy in the Morning
This alarm clock is absolutely wonderful. I never thought it would work so well, but it has. Every time I use it to wake up, I'm less groggy, more alert, and much quicker to start my day.
My only wish is that the sunrise/sundown times had more dynamic settings.
Currently, you can only choose 15/30/60 minutes....more info
- Great product, poor quality
I have used this clock for several years and I love it--when it works. Mine has broken at least 3 times in the last few years. The manufacturer has repaired it free of cost each time... but I'd love to find one that doesn't break or malfunction so easily....more info
- Morning wake-up call is 100% better with this clock!!!
This sunrise-clock is GREAT! Alas, it loses a star due to its price (pretty expensive for an alarm clock!) But, even though it was expensive, I am very pleased with this product. I can't even begin to say how much better it is to wake up to a light-filled room than the piercing BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP screech of a traditional alarm clock jarring me out of sleep and practically giving me a heart attack every morning! Also, if you have problems getting yourself out of bed early when it is still very dark outside (winter time, northern climates, disrupted sleep patterns due to menopause, etc.) then this sunrise-clock is for you! I wish I would have gotten this sunrise clock for myself a lot sooner!
NOTE: As stated by another reviewer, the best place to get this product is directly from the Bio-Brite site--lower prices and lower shipping & handling costs, too.
(Also, I did not get the one with the white noise option, so I am unable to rate that particular feature.)...more info
- Not what I was hoping for
I got this clock to help me wake up earlier so that I could make it to the gym at 6:00 am. The light is not bright enough to really make a difference and both my boyfriend and I just keep on sleeping right through its brightest "glow". One thing in its defense, we don't have bedside tables, so we have to put the light across the room. I would imagine that if you had the clock right next to your face, the light may be more effective at waking a person up. Also, it is quite big - almost 10 inches wide - so keep that in mind when putting it on a table as it takes up a lot of room. Other people had really great things to say about this clock - I wish I had experienced the same thing....more info
- Good, but not what I personally was looking for
I wanted an item that would begin to light and continue to light until it was shut off. It did not meet my needs because it is specifically an alarm clock, which the manufacturer clearly labels. The product was designed for the early riser that has a hard time waking up. You set a time and slowly, over time, the light gets brighter and brighter util the alarm goes of. I believe that there is decent science behind this idea and would be surprised if it did not work for a great deal of people. The unit is heavy and appears to be stoutly built. The light is bright but not glaring. ...more info
- I love this alarm clock! (How often do you hear that?)
I like everything about this clock - The white noise is perfect for falling (and staying) asleep, and the white noise volume is easily adjusted by moving the clock onto a softer or harder surface. I like that the light for the time dims when you turn the alarm on. Great for keeping the room dark - also better for sleep. And, at the other end, things are good too. In the morning, the gradually brightening light does the trick, helping you adjust to the fact that, yes, you have to get up now. And the beep is perfect too, a nice tone and volume - not too jarring, just enough to get you out of bed. I hesitate to spend this kind of money on something like an alarm clock, but if you can afford it, it's definitely worth it. In fact, I'm buying another one for my teenager. ...more info
- Works for Teens
My 15 and 17 year old sons really like this device. My 17 year old wrote:
I'm a teen who usually used to wake up pretty tired and ever since I've used Biobrite I wake up much faster and much more awake. I only gave it four stars because the beeper for the alarm is kind of an annoying sound. ...more info
- Update to previous review: A shift from 2 stars to 4 stars
I previously wrote that I was not that happy with the product due to a variety of issues. I e-mailed BioBrite with my review and got a very interesting response back within a day. She had a helpful response to all my questions/comments, including that I can use a good quality extension cord to plug in the clock. This way, with some manuevering, I was able to put it directly in my line of vision next to my bed. This morning I woke up to bright light in my eyes and was annoyed, but realized I was awake and it wasn't even 8am yet. At 8am the clock started beeping gently. It was definitely a lot nicer than a blaring alarm clock in a pitch dark room. Plus the CSR explained you can change the display brightness using the manual if you want to be able to see the clock at all times.
I'd say there is still a minor bit of clumsiness associated with some of the product details, but overall, a good product. I'm going to use it as my primary alarm clock and use my old one as backup, just because I'm paranoid.
Enjoy. And if you are discouraged at first glance, the directions are pretty clear, plus BioBrite responds quickly and helpfully with further questions you may have.
PS: The box says white noise on all of them since they only have one box, but only some come with white noise. Read the seller's notes carefully to see which one you are getting. ...more info
- Gentle Rouser
As someone who finds being roused from sleep most unpleasant, AND who has a job which requires rising before the sun, I have found the BioBrite Sunrise Clock to be a welcome addition to my morning routine. The first few mornings I used this clock, I enjoyed waking up gradually over 30 minutes and I felt refreshed upon rising. Some of the novelty has worn off after a month, but it still beats a traditional alarm clock. My complaints are few: first, the programming instructions in the product manual do not correspond to the actual display (i.e. the manual instructs user to press the program button until the display reads "Sunrise 15" when in reality the display will read "Fadeup 15"); second, to use the "snooze" function, you must press the second button from the left, which is difficult to find and/or remember early in the morning (I inadvertently pressed the "off" button one morning instead). Overall, I am extremely pleased with my purchase and would recommend the Sunrise Clock to anyone who needs a gentle but steady rouse in the morning....more info
- Great way to wake compared with traditional alarms
At first I was taken aback by the price....but now weeks later, totally worth every penny. I like to have a very dark sleeping space, and this has been so much nicer than trying to find the snooze button every morning with that panic siren that most alarm clocks give out. The white noise is more annoying than soothing, but the fadedown option is a nice way to know when it's time to turn off the bedside lamp, and read another day.
Hope that it works on the SAD fall and winter ahead, but so far...Great Product!...more info
- Well worth the money
I've been using this clock for about 4 years now and I love it. I use the 30-minute fade-up feature, but it usually has me awake within 15 minutes. I also like that the alarm itself -- the beep-beep noise -- is not raucous and yet still manages to penetrate my sleep-fogged brain if the light hasn't already done the trick. I like that I can use the clock as a nightlight for just a tiny amount of light when I need it in the wee hours. In the 4 years I've been using the clock, I've replaced the chandelier-style light bulb about 6 times.
Be aware that the clock is actually quite large and substantial. ...more info
- Could be better!
Overall, the point of waking up gently works. BUT, I would like more flexibility with the White Noise function. Either it's on, off, or on a timer either for 15 or 30 minutes. I'd like to be able to mannually set a timer for a couple of hours. 30 min is too short, and it wakes me up in the middle of the night if it's switched to "on"....more info
After reading others' reviews of this product I was willing to try it. It is working exactly as advertised. As some have said, the programming is detailed, but I did not find it overcomplicated. This model has many features and is fairly flexible. When it arrived, my bulb burned out immediately. I emailed the company and they responded immediately and quickly replaced the bulb at no charge(btw, the bulbs are easily found locally and are inexpensive to replace). For those who are extremely light sensitive the clock led might be a little bright, but other than that I am very pleased with this product....more info
