Customer Reviews:

  • Item works and looks as advertised
Mine came in on time and looked exactly like the picture on Amazon. It also worked as advertised on Amazon and described in the little booklet that came with it. It did not come with a 5v power supply but it works without it. The led lights on it work without any external power source. I am using it to connect my PC to my sony LCD rear proj TV that has only one HDMI port. I use a DVI-HDMI combo cable from the PC to the switch. This way I can connect the cable box, DVD player, and PC. I had to download the latest drivers from NVIDIA for my PC graphics card and fiddle with the dual monitor settings...but now...NICE, everything works and I can watch HD movies directly from my computer at 1080i (TV max limit). I'd give it 5 stars if it were cheaper. I think the small plastic housing and made-in-china feels a little on the cheap side, should be more like $10.00....more info
  • stops working after about 45 minutes
At first I thought it was my cables; after playing for about 45 minutes, the picture started blinking on and off and then it went totally out. So I switched the cables around and it worked for a few minutes and then the same thing happened. I tried different combinations of cables and the same thing happened with all of the players I hooked up to the switcher. I have another switcher, which is not automatic, and the cables worked fine on it. It did switch automatically, and I was really happy for the first few days; now it does not work well at all. ...more info
  • Great item
Great little item. Some of the reviewers below claim the video switching doesn't work, but it works perfectly for me. I have a DVD player and a cable box attached to it, and turning the DVD player on and off changes the input to the TV just fine. I've been using it for a week, and it works well....more info
  • Fantastic - even better than I expected!
    An awesome little gadget!

I got this from Game Infinity and was so impressed when I opened it and found the additional IR receiver which I hadn't even realized was going to be in the package, that I wondered if maybe I had the wrong thing (I hadn't).

I had wondered where to place the switch to allow the remote to "hit" it, without having yet another piece of electronics visible to the room, but the small little IR receiver immediately fixed that concern. Not only that little bonus, but due to the auto-sensing nature of the switch, I don't even need to send remote signals to it right now since the auto-sensing feature is handling everything with no manual intervention.

One of the biggest problems with auto-sensing switches is that a lot of HDMI devices output a low power rate even when turned "off" in standby mode. When that happens, auto-sensing struggles since it cannot tell the difference between a device truly being on or being on standby. In my setup I have an energy saving power strip that is controlled by a master device, so when I power off my AV Receiver (my master device) with the remote, it then fully powers off the switches for other connected devices. This is a common power saving device, but because it fully shuts off the power to the other devices, the auto-sensing HDMI switch then really knows that the other devices are also turned off.

My cable box is plugged into a separate (standard) socket, and that is always on as far as the HDMI switch is concerned. As a result it always defaults to the cable input if nothing else is turned on. Just what I want!

If you have trouble with the auto-switching, I strongly recommend looking at the kind of master-controlled power strips that you can get at any major store that sells electronics. Not only might it fix your problem but it should save you money in electric too!

Setup was as simple as connecting the cables, it looks nice - not cheap and nasty, the unit works exactly as I expect and the IR extended was an unexpected bonus (even though I'm not using it at present, I might need to if I change my device power configuration).

A fantastic buy. I would definitely recommend one and buy another myself if needed inthe future.

  • works perfectly
This switch works perfectly! My Dish box is on port 2 and PS3 is on port 1. As soon as I turn on the PS3, it takes priority and the TV switches from the Dish box to the PS3. When I turn off the PS3, the TV goes back to the Dish box. The priority system works flawlessly. If I still want to switch while both systems are turned on, I can just use the IR remote. I couldn't be happier. It's also smaller than I expected and very shiny so it looks great (although I have it hidden behind the boxes and only have the IR cable showing). ...more info
  • Only works intermittently
I ordered this product based on all the reviews but it does not work as promised. I hooked up the hdmi from my Panasonic Plasma TV to this unit and used 1 for DVD player and port 2 for camera. Even though it switches between the ports correctly, I can't get the picture. It will come on for a little while if I am playing a dvd but then it disappears again and only sound works. No picture! I have to turn off all the devices, turn them back on, fiddle with cables and then it will work again but only for a little while.

    Not recommended!...more info
  • The switch does not work as advertised
    3 Port Smart HDMI Switch
The switch does not respond to the remote and it does not do the priority switching either. It only responds to the button being pushed. It seems there are a number of these that come from different batches and some of them are junk. This is the first time I am putting out a negative review, as this is the first time that an electronic item just doesn't do what is says it does....more info
  • Does not work with a Samsung Blu-Ray
I purchased this product due to the reviews received on it, however, when I received it and hooked it up, I was experiencing a lot of power issues between the connections. Mostly with the cable box. I would be watching the TV and the HDMI switch would power over to the Blu-Ray for a few seconds, then switch back to the cable box. However, this cut the power completely to the cable, which caused interferences with the shows I would be recording.

At first I thought that the unit must be faulty and exchanged it through CE Compass, who was pretty quick to resend another unit. However, after receiving the new unit, the same problems were being experienced. I hooked this up with a Samsung LCD TV and a Samsung BDP3600 Blu-ray. Just wanted to let others know that this may work for some connections but not for all. It is always a best bet to do thorough research when looking to buy certain products, in my case, after needing to return this, I looked into CNet and picked out a new switch from reading the editor and user reviews....more info

  • Generally fine, but autoswitching is flakey
I'm using this to connect several HD (1080p) video sources to a projector and in general it is excellent. The only real issue is that the autoswitching can be flakey so I'm using the IR control as backup and have had no problems with that at all. I was able to program my Harmony remote to control it when I switch sources.

The only other "issue" might be that it is so small and light that the 4 HDMI cables plugged into it make some kind of mounting tape etc. necessary. Otherwise it gets pulled to wherever the cable tension wants it to go....more info
