Customer Reviews:

  • Works great...for Windows XP
I bought this card for my Dell Vostro 1700 running Windows Vista Ultimate. The ad read that it was Vista certified. I'm not sure what version of Vista it was certified on but I can not get the card to work. Vista reports that the driver will not start (error code 10). Linksys rep had no clue about this particular product.

The card works great on Windows XP Pro. It appears Vista still has it's problems and XP is still the operating system of choice for this card....more info

  • Not as Powerful and Anticipated
Thought that the power of the N Ultra router and expresscard would be great but ratings are just OK....more info
  • so far so good, but not after some blind luck...
okay, i bought this back on 4/7/08 and initially out of the box...i was very excited being that it is an expresscard and a highend wireless adapter offered by linksys. well, as soon as i installed the device and rebooted. vista gave me the error concerning driver will not start (error code 10). after a couple of days past tinkering around to troubleshoot, chatting with linksys live support, and searching the web for solutions...i gave up and waited on linksys to provide the solution to their device...but low and behold...on no particular night i tried out the card again...and had success! i believe it was due to vista's update of the service pack 1...its not confirmed, but i knew that was the last thing i did:) as far as the device working now...i tried several configurations to get the best and here is what i have to connect at 270 mbps most of the time. i use device wrt600n wireless router (which is awesome!!! but not after tinkering around with it to suit your needs). wireless connection is set to 'n' only, 40 mhz channel at 5.2 ghz as the standard channel, security set to wpa2-personal with aes encryption. my wireless adapter connected consistently after configuring through vista...so far so good....more info
  • There's a reason some of us don't like this card
The reason I'm complaining is simple; in 3 different computers the WEC600N connects at best at 802.11(b) speeds.

In my old XP laptop, my son's Vista Home Premium 32 bit laptop and my new Vista Home premium 64 bit OS laptop, the WEC600N did not connect at draft N speeds. In fact, before I wrote this I installed it again in our newest laptop with the same poor results.

Using our Linksys Draft N router and a USB Draft N adapter I had a faster link speed on my XP laptop. Our other laptops have Draft N adapters as standard equipment. The sensitivity is also lower than the internal cards of three different aforementioned computers.

On the plus side the installation is easy. The size is conveniently compact. Here endeth the good news.

Linksys replaced my first unit under warranty, and the replacement card was no better.

  • Poison Pill
This item was first installed into one of my Dell laptops. Within one week, the first laptop failed due to the extra heat generated my this unit. Sent the laptop out to have the video ram replaced and inserted the unit into the second machine without realizing it was the problem.
Within a few days, the second laptop failed in the same way as the first.
I now have two laptops being repaired due to overheating after this unit was installed....more info
  • Best Wireless Investment
This card works better than my original wireless in my laptop. I have actually noticed a visible speed improvement in both using this with my dual band router and other routers at my job. The power drain on the battery is not even noticeable (about 15 minutes off the battery life) ...more info
