The Wireless-N Gigabit Router is three devices in one package. There's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's Multiple In, Multiple Out (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G. Unlike other speed-enhanced technologies, Wireless-N can dynamically enable this double-speed mode for Wireless-N devices, while still connecting to other wireless devices at their respective fastest speeds. In congested areas, the Good Neighbor mode ensures that the Router checks for other wireless devices in the area before gobbling up the radio band. To help protect your data and privacy, the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. It can serve as your network's DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility. The incredible speed of Wireless-N makes it ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and Voice over IP telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams through the network at the same time with no degradation in performance. With the Linksys Wireless-N Gigabit Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games.
- Internet-sharing Router and 4-port Gigabit Switch, with a built in speed and range enhanced Wireless Access Point
- MIMO technology uses multiple radios per band to create robust signals for maximum range and speed, with reduced dead spots
- Much faster than Wireless-G, but also works great with Wireless-G and -B devices
- Wireless signals are protected by industrial-strength encryption, and your network is protected from Internet attacks by a powerful SPI firewall

Very easy to install. Had a little difficulty linking the network to my laptop, but one call to tech support did it. They walked me through the process. I was told the company had excellent tech help and it proved right....more info
- Great Item!
This is a super-fast router. It bears out its 111 CNET clocked speed. In fact, the router clearly lives up to its CNET review. Highly recommend buying if you want super-fast wireless!
As for the heat issue, I fail to see the difficulty. It's not that bad as far as I can see. It's warm, but it's not a problem....more info
- EXCELENT TECHNICAL SUPPORT
THE ROUTER IS ALMOST PERFECT. RANGE COVERS ALL MY HOUSE AND HAS OPTIMUM SPEED. A COMPLETE SET OF OPTIONS MAKE IT CONFIGURABLE FOR MOST APPLICATIONS. WHAT I'D LIKE TO POINT OUT IS THE OUTSTANDING TECHNICAL SUPPORT FROM LINKSYS. THESE GUYS REALLY KNOW THEIR STUFF AND HELPED ME TO SOLVE QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY THE CONNECTION PROBLEMS I HAD. THE ONLY THING THAT CONCERNS ME IS THE OPERATING TEMPERATURE OF THIS ROUTER. IT GETS HOT, THAT'S THE REASON i'M JUST GIVING 4 STARS....more info
- consistency of product
linksys wrt310n wireless-n router is not consistently working perfect.
it works sometimes on sometimes off. ...more info
- Made sure to update the Firmware!
When I first bought this router about 6 months ago I too noticed the heat issue, but once I updated the Firmware it cooled right down. I have not had to reset the router since and am very happy with it, but make sure to update the firmware. You first go to the linksys support page and download it, then log into the router (directions for this are in the manual which is also on the linksys support page) and go to the update firmware tab, browse for the file you downloaded and hit the button, if you don't do this the router will run like crap, and maybe it will anyway but once I did it the router has been wonderful!...more info
- Good Product - Hard to set up
Really cool product - range, speed, etc. works really good. The only problem that I had was installation & set up. The instruction was not quite clear and after several attempts to make it work I ended up calling Customer service rep. They have 24 hours support, and the rep walked me through instrallation & set up very late at night, and everything works now. Great product & excellent support...more info
- Works very well
Works very well. No coverage issues in a 3 story older brick house. Connects 4 comupters, 1 Buffalo NAS, 1 wireless work laptop. Range is much better than my old Barricade. ...more info
- After initial setup challenges, product works great
I purchased this product because I upgraded my Comcast internet service (with download speeds up to 50 Mbps), but my existing router was throttling my connection (limiting download speed to ~3 Mbps). I tried configuring the router using the automated setup application provided with the product's CD, but the setup application failed. I called the technical support operation and was connected with an excellent technician who stepped me through the configuration process (took ~20-30 minutes). After configuring, the router works great. I now average download speeds with Comcast of 40-50 Mbps and have seen spikes of over 70 Mbps on some occasions! If you have a need for speed, this is a great product to have. (Note: Had I not encountered the initial setup problems, I would have rated the product 5 out of 5.)...more info
- Beautiful and good looking but not perfect
The product looks nice but i don't make it work steady and still...keeps freezing and rejecting the connections. I have to reboot it requently. I dunno what's going on......more info
- Heat issues addressed
I might be a day late and a dollar short but as long as you stand the product up on it's side, there is no heat issue. If you either wall mount or mimic a wall mount by standing it on the side with the ports facing up you won't have a heat issue at all. If you lay it flat, you will have heat issues. I tried it standing up with the ports face down but it got hot. The vents for the heat to escape are on the side with the ports so if you face that side up then there is no heat issues....more info
- Heat and No Distance Benefit
I purchased this router to replace a Netgear Mimo router, hoping to gain better coverage in my home. This router gave me less coverage then the Netgear. The new Linksys notebook card did help a little on signal with the Netgear Router..
The other problem, that others have mentioned, is the heat. This router runs very hot....more info
- Worse range, worse speed than older Linksys
I had a WRT54GS v4 that worked pretty well but did not give wireless coverage in some of the most used areas on my house. So I bought this "Wireless N Ultra Range Plus" product, thinking that it would probably be better. Silly me..
The setup program worked perfectly, but I can't get reliable reception in the next room (15 feet from the router). The client computers can see the signal and link up to it but the signal strength is impossibly weak and drifts in and out; even when it's good, the speed is one tenth what it was with the old router.
Also, while the setup program worked well, there's another program on the CD (don't remember what it's supposed to do) that wouldn't run on my Vista PC at all. It showered the screen with disconnected buttons, wouldn't do anything, and required a restart to make it go away.
Oddly enough, I haven't had any problem with the router disconnecting itself. Small comfort when the product doesn't do what it's supposed to do.
All in all, I'd say spend your money someplace else....more info
- Not any better than a G router
I bought this router to replace a Linksys G, which had been working fine. I wanted an "N" router to get better speed, but so far the wireless function is no faster than the G and drops often. I kept the old router and have gone back to using it....more info
- Difficult to Install, Sketchy Tech Support
Let me begin by saying I am fairly technically competent. I was trying to get this device working for over an hour. I was unable to run the installation software on either my Vista or XP pro machine (error message: ethernet cable not conected). I called support and was walked through the ipconfig and the wire connection worked fine.
After this support, the rep asked for $10 to set up the wireless conection. She said that the provided software (LELA) was defective and that the router would not run with it (i.e. fixing their mistake for $10). The support person also said that I would not be able to set it up myself, but there was nothing complicated about it. This ticked me off. I said no, got off the phone, and got everything working within a couple minutes.
The machine looks slick and works well now. ...more info
- Very Good
I read a lot of other peoples' reviews for this product before purchasing it. The problem others mention is that it over heats and cuts out and you then lose internet connection. So, as suggested by a few people, I have the unit standing up so the underside vents are not face down and the heat can dissipate.
One other problem people mentioned was it was hard to get it set up. I had to call the tech help. The phone number is in the literature. The tech was very helpful and pleasant and got me up and running in a very short amount of time. I have been using the unit for a few months and have had no problems.
One tip - if you have more than one computer, such as a desktop and a laptop, have them both on so you are ready if you need to call the tech help. The tech will help you set both to the wireless router....more info
- Good wireless but weak on 10/100 wired networks
The wireless network works great.
But my wired computers with 10/100 megabit network cards were suffereing intermittent problems with data loss. Tracert and ping confirmed the problems.
Linksys tech support advised me to try using "10 half mode" on my network adapters on the wired computers. This solved the data loss problems.
This is unhappy situation because I used to have 100 megabit wired network. The net result is that adding the Linksys WRT310N to my network has slowed down my wired network.
This is not very good upgrade for my network.
The tech support person at Linksys confirmed that the WRT310N DOES NOT HAVE SPEED AUTOSENSING on its gigabit wired ports. It also does not have a management interface to configure the ports to run at 100 megabit, which would have been the best way. My wired computers would have continued to run at their normal 100 megabit speed if WRT310N had better wired features.
But like I said, 10 megabit speed is the best my wired network can do with the WRT310N unfortunately.
My advice to shoppers is, don't buy this router if you already have a 100 megabit network, because it will become only a 10 megabit network. But if you have a gigabit network already meaning the switches and cabling are gigabit already, then you will probably get excellent performance unlike me, in which case I say it's a good purchase.
This is a speed downgrade and I am unhappy about it. I dont think I will be able to use wired devices like a Slingbox for television-over-ethernet with such a slow speed as 10 megabit. I have to buy a different router I guess. The packaging on the box should have been more clear about what would happen on a 100 megabit network, then i would have bought a different router....more info
I have an older Linksys b/g router and wanted to replace it with an N router (mostly for the increased range).
I ordered this one and found that b devices could not regularly connect and even n devices were having their connection dropped regularly.
I've returned it to Amazon - one of the few items I have ever returned....more info

- Cool looking and works great!
Just got this router tonite. Now I've had a Linksys WRT 54G for many years and it has been a great router for me but recently it seems as if it has been acting peculiar so I, after I recently got a Macbook Pro, went out bought me an Airport Express on the recommendation of someone but found it utterly frustrating to set up!! To make a long story short I ended up returning it and decided to just stay with my trusty old Linksys as it seemed to be working fine.
But earlier today it really started acting weird and I couldn't seem to get my MBP to pick up a signal and after fiddling around with it for a while I decided the hell with it I'm going to go check out what's new in the stores..
Well I saw this WRT310N and it looked cool and slick but did it work well? And was it going to be easy to set up? The answer to both questions is yes and kind of. Setting it up was not as easy as they would want you to believe but I do have to say Linksys support was top notch. After getting a Rahul on the phone he patiently walked me through some troubleshooting issues that got me up and running fairly quickly and with 1 desktop and 3 laptops in my network I was one happy camper!
Now having the wireless N with my MBP I could notice a significant increase in speed, Now I don't know all the technobabble behind it all but all I know is I was up & running and surfing pretty fast!
I like the look of the router and it was much easier to set up than my experience with the Airport Express.
I think the thing that impressed me the most about my experience with the setup was Linksys support! Rahul was great and even amusing as he dealt with me..a frustrated customer..he knew just how to allay my anxiety about it all and get me up and running! Kudos to Linksys for their customer service!...more info
- Great Upgrade for BEFSR41
I needed to upgrade my old BEFSR41 (wired router) which served me well but did not have WIFI for my new laptop. This guy comes with 1G ports! That was a vast improvement over my old unit, which ran at 100M. Now I not only enjoy the security of my wired PC's (4) but also can link it to WIFI equipment (50!). The WIFI is fast.
Caveat: I had a problem reaching one of my PC's in my network. The problem turned out to be McAfee firewire protection. Some residual setting was blocking inbound traffic. McAfee resolved the problem for me, but because it took me a while to understand why this was happening, I hope I can save some of you time that have the same problem.
I'm very happy with this unit and it has the advanced security encription which I have installed and use. Now I have higher wired speed, increased security and WIFI!
GO FOR IT!...more info
- WRT310N Wireless router - Great Range, easy to install
Love the range and speed I get from this router, and the installation was a cinch. I use it in our condominium Clubhouse and pool area for home owner use and direct internet access to our security system from the Internet....more info
- Great with minor design flaw
I am a Network Administrator so I can tell you I have vast experience with routers, switches...etc. This router is excellent and has fantastic benchmark results in both speed and distance. However I have compared it with its lower end cousins and found that though they do not have the potential of the WRT310N, they also do not have heating issues as this model does. I took apart both routers and found that the root of the issue is the space for ventilation within the device for its electronic components, The shell is the same practically but far more is compressed within the WRT310N.
After experimenting with this router I found that the best solution for the heat issue is to not place it flat on its belly as most people would assume is the best position, but rather attach it to the wall with the available screw holes on its underbelly with the rear of the router facing up. In this position I have ran her with an Xbox360, PS3 and my computer all running together with no heat issues for days. As long as you have her in a upright position like so, she is a marvel of a router for the price. I highly recommend but I do insist that Linksys address the issue in future additions.
- Terrible product - Linksys should be ashamed
Sometimes this works, but no longer at anywhere near the speeds that it should. Let me detail my history with it.
Day 1: It arrives. There's no Mac OS X set-up, but after searching their website I eventually found it. Successful set-up. Great speed!
Days 2-4: Great speed!
Day 5: Very spotty speed. Only "bursts" of connectivity. Reboot - great speed!
Days 6-7: Great speed!
Days 8-10: Very spotty speed, with bursts of connectivity. Reboot - no effect.
I will be returning this and will never buy Linksys again....more info
- great once it was working.
First I tried the self install software for the router. that did not work. then I contacted the online service customer service. That did not help, so I called service tech paid 24.95 and the router was working. As I was working on my laptop I found out I did not have access to my desk top computer, printer, and storage backup. Then I called the Service tech and had to pay another 24.95 to have a service tech to correct my problems. It is now working. The thing that is interesting is I was replacing a Syslink cable only router with a new Syslink wireless N router. But now all is well....more info

The router was very easy to configure and performs very well. The EasyLink Advisor software stopped working after applying an upgrade. This seems to be a common problem without a published fix....more info
- Not worth the headache
After spending hours trying to get my PSP and PS3 to connect to this router, I found some settings that seemed to work. For a little while anyways. Then the connection either drops by itself randomly, or I just can't connect at all and have to reboot the router. I've even tried the standard 20 MHz radio band on channel 1, with wireless-B only selected and it still has issues. My old D-Link router was wireless-B on the same channel and I could connect every time and never get dropped. I think I'll just send this one back and stick to my D-Link. On a positive note though, the gigabit wired connection works pretty well....more info
- Great upgrade from Wireless-G
Before upgrading to the Linksys Wireless-N router I was using a Linksys Wireless-G. The reason for the upgrade was that I was having frequent wireless connection problems that were only fixed by re-setting the modem and router. The last straw was when I added an Apple Airport Express to my wireless network with the intention of streaming music from my Mac to a home entertainment center in the other room. It didn't work. The Wireless-N solved all of the problems. I had some problems configuration however tech support did an excellent job of getting me up and running! My only complaint was with the install CD that came with the router which my Mac didn't recognize and was useless on the PC - it actually caused problems with the set up that tech support eventually identified and helped me remedy. Overall a great product!...more info

- Heat issues -- don't buy
I bought this product 2 months ago and I constantly fight with the well-known heat issues. Device dies under load and disconnects. Reception becomes flaky at distance and constantly need to reconnect. We run 3 wireless devices and 3 wired machines on the router. Gigabit Ethernet doesn't deliver either, I achieved some 200MBit/s. I would stay away from this device. Spend $30 more and spare the grieve....more info
- Good router
After reading all the bad reviews, I figured out that people who complain about this product just don't know what they're doing. I bought this to replace my aging wrt54g, and it was totally worth it. I can see the "over" heating problem, but complaints listed here are greatly exaggerated. Just put thing on something like a small box to provide ventilation on the bottom. Otherwise, just turn the thing off when you're not using it. This is a great product and configures just as easily through the web browser as all the other Linksys products. I didn't use the CD....more info
