Customer Reviews:

  • For international buyers..
This game is like the title suggests "Unreal"...

But if you are an international buyer wishing to purchase this game,
I would probably think again, for online gaming anyhow.

After buying this game, being an Australian customer.
Only issue is online play (You will not be able to play on local servers),
as Midway entertainment has informed me that the EUR and US versions of the game are at the moment incompatible (For PS3)...
While trying to connect to local servers you will recieve an error message saying "Package Core Not Downloadable".

So until a patch is released linking the games (IF a patch is even released), I would probably halt on the purchase from an overseas supplier...

Even buying the game from your own region, although it may cost a little more will save you the heartache of not being able to play on a low pinged server...

But besides that...Great game, always have been a fan of the series and would definately recommend purchasing this game...

  • nevermind other reviewers this is 10 star game
Originally a ps3 exclusive in dec 2007, this game looks beautiful in 720p think gears of war but better, this gran turismo, assassin's creed and metal gear solid 4 are the best looking games this generation. And for that guy who says theres mic issues that was fixed in an update, also theres free maps, and you can create your own maps at home and load them into the game a first for any console version game EVER. I have samus and master chief playing together in 3rd person view. The psn is an open platform , xbox live is closed hence why ea sports didnt make online games for them til the end of xbox1s cycle. Anyway this game is fast and addicting if you have friends or join an awesome clan like i have. We just dominate and talk smack while drinking dew. Imagine call of duty but with great vehicles like the tripod from war of the worlds that you can decimate people in. Anyway it drew me away from Call of Duty 4, and i still play both but for that to happen that speaks volumes. ...more info

  • Old school Unreal
If you were a fan of the old school UT from the dreamcast days (like myself) then you should find this game very satisfying. The ps3 version allows user created mods so basically you get alot of cool maps for free. I own both versions of the game (360 and ps3) the ps3 version plays better as I feel the 360 version has controller lag?

Overall its a great throwback to a game with updated graphics and a few of the old maps thrown in, and like I said with the mods available you can d/l alot of the old maps online and painlessly put them right on your ps3. ut3mods.com i think is the address, google it. ...more info
  • i liked this game online and one player
this was an awsome game, i had never played the UT before this on wow it was prwetty good...more info
  • Good old school!
I haven't had played this title family games for a while, actually since the first Unreal Tournament, then, I thought this was the time to experience the advance in technology since then. And I was really impressed how the graphics looked like, and the new weapons that are modernized versions of the original game, as well as the new ones that are very cool. Overall I hate to say that the game play feels quite a bit the same since then but maybe I'm wrong, the improvements are a lot, don't get me wrong. I recommend this game a lot....more info
  • Classic FPS fragging fun!
Just like I remembered from the original PC game classic, only better! Great graphics, no lag that I can detect, and don't forget to download the free map pack through the PS3 console from the online "store." ...more info
  • excellent price, great game
Unreal and Unreal Tournament are two of the most well known and highly respected arena-based first person shooters out there. Fast approaching its tenth anniversary, there's no doubt that Unreal's spin-off, Unreal Tournament, is perhaps the prime contributor to the series' success. I can't begin to count the amount of hours I've poured into Unreal Tournament. ps for the price its a great game soo don't compare unreal to cod 4 or resistance that will cost you 59.99 compare to 120 buck's....more info
  • Solid action-packed fun
As a newcomer to the Unreal Tournament series, I was initially hesitant to buy this game. The UT community is notorious for being very dedicated and hardcore. I was worried I wouldn't be able to compete online, especially on a PS3.

Fortunately, there is no need to be apprehensive. Oh, I'm not saying it isn't intense. You'll need all your reflexes to keep up with the frantic pace. After playing UT3, playing a shooter like Resistance makes you feel like you're trudging through molasses. Nevertheless, it's pretty easy to pick up if you're a newcomer.

    Pros:
-Nice selection of weapons. I found each weapon to be pretty balanced and was able to use them effectively in most situations.

-Offline Instant Action. If you don't want to look like a fool playing online for the first time, you can get plenty of practice fighting the bots. You have a selection of 8 difficulty levels, which makes this mode a very effective way to improve your gameplay. You may also choose to have zero opponents so you can explore and familiarize yourself with the maps.

-Great graphics. This game looks very pretty.

-Controls work well and are very responsive on the PS3.

-Straightforward simple gameplay. No reloading or grenades (unless you count the rocket launcher's alt fire). You simply shoot like crazy until your ammo runs out. This allows you to focus on causing as much mayhem as possible!

-Multiplayer is fun. This is the centerpiece of the game, of course. There are 6 modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Cehicle CTF, Warfare, and Duel. Each mode is fun and offers good maps, vehicles, power-ups, etc.

-You may choose to use mutators in your match, such as Low Gravity, Super Beserk, Slo Mo, Weapon Replacement, and others to keep things interesting.

    Cons:
-Community isn't as thriving as I expected. There isn't always an abundance of available games to join.

-I really wish that 4-player or even just 2-player split screen was available. I'd love to play some of my friends but can't unless they buy the game too.

-The single player campaign is nothing special. It's only a series of matches. You can practically recreate it through the instant action mode. The only layer of depth comes from occasional cut scenes and cards you can play that aid you in some of the matches. It is a good way to introduce yourself to the game, however.

Overall, good game. Worth buying even if you're not a hardcore fps gamer....more info
  • Terrific, fun, and fast online showcase for your PS3's graphical muscle
Now that this game is being discounted for PS3, I feel I must try my best to get others to try it out.

First, let me say that I am not an Unreal fanboy. I haven't played a UT game since the original on PC in 1999. I loved that game, but soon went through a series of residences without broadband internet and many transitional PCs. So I couldn't finance new machines and internet connections to play each successive version. The original UT was generally agreed to be a classic - it ran well on nearly any machine, it played extremely fast, and it was an awesome sci-fi themed shooter with loads of variety which just *felt* right.

Well, a few years, a college education, stable income and broadband connections make all the difference. I picked up UT3 for my PS3 for about $40 used to see if it still had that adrenaline-pumping appeal that it did way back in the day.

To make a long story short: Hell Yeah!

First, the most important aspect of any FPS, *Control*:
I was underwhelmed by Call of Duty and Halo games on consoles. They just felt *wrong.* The controller just couldn't do it, blah blah blah. Well, Epic knows how to make a shooter, and they know how to tune it to the machine it's on and the control that's available. I don't know what Epic did, whether it's a combo of slowing down characters slightly, auto aiming assists, or what, but fragging opponents with a SIXAXIS feels just as easy and fluid as it every did with a mouse and keyboard. Personally, I find it even a tad easier, since all the buttons are within thumbs' reach, as opposed to having to tweak your keyboard layout and then try to avoid punching the wrong key in a darkened room.

The *Graphics* are outstanding. They are blazing fast, handle loads of detail and effects, and almost never slow down. I've played for a good 40 hours now, and out of that there have been probably fifteen seconds total of slowdown. And it's not "Mass Effect" level slideshow slowdown - it's barely noticeable.

*Gameplay* is beefy and should provide many months of entertainment, with all the modes available. A campaign mode with a so-so story helps as a training mode against bots. Of course, you can have a bot match by yourself at any time, as well, customizing the number and difficulty of the bots. Bots provide a healthy challenge at medium-to-higher difficulties. Deathmatch, CTF, vehicle CTF, and Warfare are all finely tuned and fun to play. Weapons feel great, and all have their advantages/drawbacks. Vehicles take practice, but can be extremely useful on large maps. The maps kick serious rear-end, by the way. I love the urban and asian-inspired maps, and of course there are plenty of industrial complexes to tear through.

User-created content is easily available online, too, which adds tremendously to replay value. There are mods ranging from the simple (over the shoulder camera), to the wild (UT in 2D sidescrolling gameplay), to the bizarre (want to play in a level which is one giant bathroom?). Epic is known for copious map packs also, one of them already released for free on the PSN, so this game should have legs for years.

*Online* works well, I have an average cable modem connection, and I could play via wi-fi on the PS3 with no lag or hitches. I was up and running in a minute or less, and there are plenty of people playing. It really was pretty seamless and was extremely fun. Online games can be searched for by type, and are displayed with their ping times for your choice. There are plenty of people with varying skill levels, also. I've gone up against some monsters, and some outright noobs.

Even if you're not into online deathmatches, the nuts and bolts of the game are just so fun and satisfying, even playing botmatches is a lot of fun and is something I'd figure I'd do every once in a while. And I'm not a big shooter fan (like I said, Halo and COD leave me cold.) The speed, the movement, the weaponry, and the endorphin rush when you get a "KILLING SPREE" or "RAMPAGE" message are thrilling and addictive. This game gets your heart rate up and keeps it there until the match ends. It has the thrills of a great arcade game in single player. And if you like shooters? Forget about it. You need to get this game.

I always thought shooters on consoles were a terrible compromise that could never play as well as on the PC. Well, I've got hours spent and pulse-pounding gameplay that tell me otherwise. This game is the equal of any PC shooter I've ever played. Having it in the comfort of a living room, sitting on a couch, with amazing graphics on a 50" widescreen HDTV is a big step up over hunching in front of your monitor, too. If Epic sees fit to release a patch for split-screen local play, this will be the ultimate game - great for having friends over, squeezing off a few rounds to unwind alone, or going online to really get the blood pumping. This game is well worth your $20. It was worth the $40 I paid. It was worth $60 when it came out. So you're getting a steal!

UPDATE: Epic has just patched, improved, and updated this game with the "Titan" pack. This FREE downloadable content includes several new maps, some new gameplay modes, the ability to download FREE mods and user-created levels directly from the game screen, PS3 trophies, and (DRUM ROLL...) SPLIT-SCREEN MULTIPLAYER! This is just fantastic support of a game by a developer - only Burnout Paradise matches UT3 in terms of after-market support.

If I have said it before, let me say it again: This is a great game and deserves a shot from anyone who enjoys shooters, online multiplayer, or just flat-out graphical eye candy....more info

  • Don't buy this - Get Call of Duty 4
I played Unreal Tournament 1 and loved it. Skipped #2 and bought Unreal 3. I figured it would blow me away - given 10 years of increasing computing power, better graphics and the quality of other games for the PS3. All I can say is what a disappointment. In Story Mode, the plots are complex but mindless. You have to go here, do something, go there, do something else, go another place and (I think I zoned out the rest of the instructions). Online play is boring at best. Run, run, shoot, run, shoot. Yawn! The weapons aren't as good as Unreal 1 and they rarely kill even with a direct hit. The only thing unreal about this game is the price. Look for mine at auction for $1 no reserve....more info
  • It's Okay
Ureal 3 is pretty much dull. It falls so short to other shooters,
Plus all the Mic problems that is the main flaw of this game. Worth renting but not buying. ...more info

  • Great game, but where is the online community?
This is a great FPS that deserves a bigger audience. The single player campaign is decent but really isn't much more than practice for the different maps and game modes available for online play. The only problem is that the online community for this game is VERY small and I often have problems finding a game/server to join that has more than one person. I really wish this game would catch on with more people because it is a lot of fun....more info
  • Great Game
I just finished playing this game fully... Great graphics all around, although like most games they can never get the mouth right when they speak, the mouth looks fake.
It's a pritty short game, but it gets you ready to play online, and online is amazing, super fast pased action, and pritty smooth, not glitchie.
It's a good buy, I have had no problems, and it's just fun....more info
