New Features -- Where Am I? Where's My Car?
The nĘ╣vi 700 series is the first to answer two common questions: "Where am I?" and "Where's my car?"

At any time, with a single tap of the screen, drivers can display their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. And to help drivers find their car in an unfamiliar spot or vast parking lot, all nĘ╣vi 700s automatically mark the position in which they were last removed from the mount.

New Features -- Multi-Destination Routing
This lets you enter several spots into the device (day care - supermarket-cleaners - office - day care, for example) and it will plot the fastest route. And once you've found the best router, the "Route Planning" feature lets you save up to 10 different routes, Garmin touts the feature for providing, "the most efficient route for errands, deliveries and sales calls." The feature also makes this an instant essential accessory for anyone who shops garage sales (you know what we're talking about).

A trip log provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so you can see where you've been on the map.

See Better, See More
The super-bright, 4.3-inch (diagonal) touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views.

The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.

First Rate Map Data
All nĘ╣vi 700s come preloaded with highly detailed City Navigator NT road maps for the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping.

Important note about map updates: Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store.

Garmin Lock
Garmin's patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location

Easy To Use Interface
Garmin's interface is a key to their success and one of the things that makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip.

Customer Reviews:

  • Nuvi 750 is Fantastic
I've only had it a couple of days but I am extremely pleased. As soon as I connected it to my computer to register the unit it updated the software. I've read all of the reviews, most of them were old and was a little hesitant. I'm glad I bought it! The language pronunciation was dead on, not like other brands I've used and heard. It acquires the satellites usually before the maps are finished loading. I had to go out of town today and it worked perfectly. On the way home I decided to alter the directions it had decided was the best route. As soon as I passed the turn it immediately said "recalculating" and took no more than 2 or 3 seconds to find the new route. I tried to trick it on 4 different occasions with the same results. My "other" brand did not work nearly as fast. Way to go Garmin! I would highly recommend this unit to anyone who doesn't want "all" of the bells and whistles (at a significantly higher cost) though this unit has most of them. I did not want bluetooth since I have a bluetooth headset for my iPhone. You can put photos on it and MP3 files. I really didn't need that either since I connect my iPod through my car's audio auxiliary input. The 750 will be the last GPS I need for a long time.

    Update: 1/20/09
I've now had this unit for a little over 2 months. I could not be more pleased. The battery life is excellent. With my "other" gps I had to charge the battery at least once every 2 weeks or it would go dead. After 3 weeks of non use the Garmin still showed a full charge. The voice is super clear and pronunciation is perfect (so far). The "other" gps mis-pronounces words constantly. Now that the price on Amazon has dropped again, now is the time to buy before they are gone. Also, the price on the Nuvi 760 has dropped and it has just about all of the bells and whistles. The 760 had been my first choice but at the time they were a lot more than I wanted to spend. I love my 750 so I do not regret my purchase. If you are in the market go for the 750 or 760 before they disappear....more info
  • Simple and Very Good
I already had a Garmin GPS but it didn't have text to speech and the screen was 3.5 which at times wasn't really big enough. I researched a lot of models - Garmin and other brands- and chose the 750. It set up easily, connected with the satellite immediately and has been very easy to use. I like being able to type in querty mode which is an option easily chosen. This doesn't have bluetooth but I already have that in my car so it wasn't a big deal. I have downloaded an audio book and listened while I was on vacation. Very pleased with the larger screen and text to speech. Price was right too! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a GPS>...more info
  • GPS Garmin 750
I am learning to use this product. It is easy to see and program, but I had to learn by making mistakes and trying to fix them. The product is fine, but there needs to be a better instruction manual with it. I did use the web support system, and it was helpful, but mistakes could have been avoided with better istructions....more info

This garmin nuvi 750 is like a guide dog for a blind person that is being traine to walk the street with much more advantange that this one could also talk that is how i feil,so i have to say that this product is magnificent.and simply very easy to manage. ...more info

the garmin 750 is easy to use and understand the price was way to high,i found the same 750 nuvi at sams club for 198.00 i paid 268.00 it cost me 70.00 dollars more at amzon!...more info
  • Garmin 750 performance
Maximum volume is not loud enough. Initial map loading takes more than a minute . Directions given are quite good. Sometimes, it gets lost and gives nonsense directions. You got to know at least some general ideas where you are going. I suggest to bring a AAA map to verify your GPS.
The device mount on glass is a joke. Overall it performs well compared to Magellan . It could be more friendly to enter more address into your favorite address book. It is a good companion and gives me confidence when travel at new places.
I have no regret to buy this device ....more info
  • The only thing missing is the blue tooth
Good price, easy to use and configure
No need for big configurations before use, just turn it on type in the address and go (if using the SD Card with maps for other countries, it may need to access the menu to disable the internal USA infos and enable the foreign country infos from the SD Card).

Design is better now using internal antenna (no more retractable tab behind used as antenna on older models of Nuvi)

Easily update the software through the Internet when connected to your home-pc during the registration process.

Comes with a good solution to mount out of the windshield which is a pad adesive in one side and flat on the other so you can glue it anywhere and use the flat side to fix the GPS Support just like done in the windshield.

The new Support kit makes very easy to take the GPS with you with no need to detach cables that stay fixed to the support when you detach only the GPS.

  • How did we ever manage without it?
I remember how often I managed to get lost while driving "BG." (Before Garmin). Now I just enter the address I want to reach - even if I've never been there - and depend on "Betty" (our name for our direction-giver on the Garmin) to get us there safely and on time. It's even reduced greatly my perusals of MapQuest. We are in our 70's and 80's and really appreciate the advance notices of turns, etc., especially whether a freeway exit is to the "right" or "left" here in Florida, as that can be tricky when you find yourself in the "wrong" lane for an approching exit. I can't praise this enough. ...more info

I really do like this GPS - Never had a GPS and I have found that this is easy to use. My only criticism is that there are not enough directions accompanying it. Good thing it's pretty easy to figure out!...more info
  • Great!
I was a bit apprehensive about buying a GPS for the car, especially one as inexpensive as this. However I couldn't be more pleased. The unit is not very distracting, which was my biggest concern. I feel most people don't pay enough attention when they drive anyway so the more distractions the more dangerous any driver becomes. This is pretty unobtrusive until you need it, then it speaks to you and lets you know where you need to turn. The interface is quite simple and the printed instructions, as a consequence, are quite short and concise. It has many features, like driving preferences of highways, traffic, toll roads, language (I love the Australian female voice) and zoom that you can delve into, but you don't have to. Enter a destination (while the car is NOT in motion) and the unit will take you there. It even has the little dirt roads around my rural house! I have not found any inaccuracies to date, but I did go online and update the firmware and database before I starting using it.

The volume is fairly low, even at the highest setting for a loud vehicle like a convertible or any car with the windows down, but you can have it play through your stereo at any volume you need. That "kills" the stereo, so it would be nice to let it play your CD, say, but then interrupt with directions as required, but that's asking a bit much, I realize. On longer trips I don't use it until I get into unfamiliar territory anyway, so no big deal.

The screen can wash out some when there is sunlight directly on the unit, but unless you have a convertible this usually isn't the case.

It doesn't have Bluetooth and doesn't play any media, but I don't need those features, so no harm done. My phone has a Bluetooth headset and the stereo plays what I want.

    I like it!

  • Best thing since the Post-It sticker
This has become my savior, since I moved to a new area recently. I never used to believe in these gadgets, but this is one item that every directionally-challenged individual should get.
It's important to get one like the 750, which specifies the street names, it stops you from having to look at the screen, and taking your eyes off the road.
On the whole, it's fairly accurate. The challenge is usually when it starts up, it's doesn't really clearly indicate where you are, so you take pot luck on the direction, until you hear the slightly annoyed female voice announce 'Recalculating'...! It does do a great job getting you back on track.
The maps are not that clear, and for some reason do not point in the same direction that you're driving. However THE VOICE is assuredly confident with the directions, that it is practically void.
Unless it's just me not knowing how to use the POI or address correctly, sometimes it's difficult to pick up locations for specific shops, and the database is not up to date with all places. (understandably shops spring up (and close) all the time.
In summary, I'm very pleased with the Nuvi 750, though I wish it came with a cover included already....more info
  • Good unit with a few quirks
I received this unit as a gift and was very excited about it. I first tried to download the newest software and maps to it, but for some reason it wouldn't register for me. The customer service at Garmin was very helpful though and registered it for me and sent me a direct link to download the software. While they were nice about it, this took about a week to straighten out.
I then took my unit with the updated maps with me on vacation from my home in Pennsylvania to South Carolina. I also had written directions with our usual path on it just to compare. The Garmin took us into a major city in NC with many stoplights rather than the highway we usually take. Major detour mainly due to the traffic lights, low speed limit, and traffic around us. Also, it didn't recognize a major highway that has been there for over 2 years. It showed us as in the middle of a field and constantly repeated "Recalculating" for a good half hour or so. It got to the point where we just shut it off because it got so annoying.
Also, this was when I noticed static/scratchiness to the voice which made it difficult to understand what the GPS was trying to say. The customer service people said this was not supposed to be this way so I exchanged it quickly and easily. However, the exchange brought along the same issue with registering the unit...
The second unit had the same scratchiness in the voice and that was the last straw for me. I just returned the unit yesterday and I think I might try out a Navigon this time.
Overall, I never tried many of the features but the ones I did use, such as POI's were very nice and easy to use. I was pleased with the unit, but it would be nice to understand what it was saying. It also didn't work well in major cities, but I would expect that from most units due to tall buildings and poor satellite reception. Therefore, I give the unit a 3/5. Not as good as what I expected from a Garmin, which I thought would uphold my expectations of it....more info
  • Nice
Since this is my first GPS I really don't have the experience to give a truly insightful opinion. Initially I would have to give the 750 a four and half instead of 4, but here is my likes and dislikes.

Let me get the dislikes out since there is only one and thats what your looking for. I haven't had it on any real long trips, but locally it has given me directions that would work, but are not routes that you would take if you are familiar with the area. I have to imagine this is the case no matter where you would take it, but I'm about about to take it on our trip to the beach so we will find out.

LIKES. Out of the box this thing was easy to set up, easy to use and easy to understand. It has tons of features that are easy to use and very helpful when needed. All in all I would have to recommend this GPS...more info
  • Outstanding Device
The 750 has performed flawlessly right out of the box. I have been using it about two weeks, giving it all kinds of "challenges" and tests. My conclusion is: It will not steer you wrong. Maybe a little out of the way, or a little different than I might have chosen in an area I am familiar with, but I have no hesitation in saying I will depend on its guidance in any area I am unfamiliar with.

I am especially impressed with the speed of its "recalulating" feature if I deliberately or mistakenly stray from a route. Usually it has a new route within 15 seconds max!

I am used to using a marine type chart plotter in the car so I have a few "wish it had" comments, but I repeat none of these are even slightly near to being a show stopper.

I wish it had... Storage capacity for more than 10 routes.
,,, A way to show future arrival times for enroute "via" points instead of only for the final destination. ... a way to "teach it' corrections for road names or locations when it makes a mistake, or the place is no longer there. ... a way to reverse a route without inputting it again in the opposite direction. ... a way to tell it to avoid a specific road,

As I said I am still testing and learning. For example it is very important to set it for either fastest or shortest distance routes... makes a big difference. Shortest distance seems best in cities, fastest seems best cross country.

    Impresssive device....more info

  • Great for the price and feature point
This unit provided us with reasonably accurate directions and responded quickly to recalculations. I feel that the time it took to acquire the sats where a bit long, but considering that my experience with these units is light I really don't know what to expect. It took about 2 mins to be completely connected to the sats, but was functioning after 1.25 mins. The test that we gave it was on a trip to Colorado Springs, CO. We went its route and was pleased with it. While in CS, we asked the clerks at the hotel just for the name of the restaurants and plugged that in (but chances are its already in it if its been around for more than a year.) We were able to detour off of our original path and the unit recalculated very quickly. And we were never lost. Having a GPS unit in a town you have never been in is a must to save time and see more of what you want!

In regard to its build quality, I think that it is built very well. Very solid piece of construction. It plays MP3's and has BLUETOOTH. It also will transmit through the car radio on an unused freq. but that proved problematic at best sometimes. My other gripe is that the battery life is rather short. But this is truly a small gripe.

Overall I would recommend this to anyone! I gave it only four stars because of the slow sat reception, radio connectivity and battery life....more info
  • Portable Convenience
We're pleased with the Garmin 750 GPS. It's able to get you almost anywhere you want to go - except our house and a friend's house in a small rural community, but that's true of all GPS units. The sticky base no longer adheres to the dash, after just 2 days of high temperatures, but one of the friction bases should solve that problem. The portabilty is a money saver with 2 cars, alternately used for longer trips, and the larger screen is a plus for my husband who has large fingers and can't type on the smaller screens. I'd recommend this product, just don't throw away all your maps....more info

  • Garmin Nuvi 750 Shortcomings....
I bought this GPS for its multi-point route ability - I do garage sales and estate sales and wanted a unit that could accept many addresses and optimize a route to them - the Garmin Nuvi 750 could NOT do the job. On about 1 point out of 3 it would try to return to the point just left - it could not recognize that it had been to a point & kept trying to return to the point. Consumer Reports gave many Garmin models a poor rating for routing ability - I now know why. I'll be selling this unit at a considerable loss on ebay & will buy another unit from another manufacturer... ...more info
  • Garmen Nuvi 750
This is the second Nuvi 750 I am buying. I bought the first one in August 2008 (thru Amazon) ($328). This one will be used in my truck so I do not need to move it from the car and at $180, I could not pass it up. It is an outstanding piece of equipment and has performed flawlessly in cross country as well as local travel. The large speed indicator is especially valuable and usuable on the highway and the digital readout is so much easier to see than the auto speedometer. We were able to visit places in Tennessee, Georgia and Arkansas that we would have never found using maps. The voice instructions and turn warnings are especially good in cities and on heavy trafic freeways. Finding restaurants in a strange city and knowing how far away they are has been a super feature. The suction cup dash mount has been an especially visible and great location compared to the further away windshield mounting position. This is good stuff and probably the best on the market !...more info

I did my research and decided on the Garmin Nuvi 750. I was going to Salem, Mass. and was it ever a lifesaver. The streets are laid out very differently there from what I am used to and the garmin got me everywhere and back to the motel, even when I didn't follow directions. Excellent price/performance. Directions were accurate. Device is easy to work with first time out of the box.
