Customer Reviews:

  • Great Customer Service, Good Product
The mic wasn't producing enough volume, as in, people couldn't hear me.
After a series of questions with Plantronics, they asked me to return it to Amazon, since I had purchased it within 30 days. Amazon offered to refund my money or send me a new one within the USA. But since I was no longer in the USA I opted to return it to Plantronics. They were AWSOME. Sent via post and the replacement arrived at my door, without having received the defective unit, the next day.

The new one works well, although I'm still trying to figure out the best fit among the three molded ear pieces and ear hoop. Had some initial pains getting it connected to my Lenovo T-60, but after downloading the latest bluetooth driver the mic worked, but still have to use the computer speaker. Also, still haven't got it to re-connect to my Treo and Lenovo T-60 if I go out of range or turn them off.

It does block out noise and I found it a little weird listening to music in the car with the ear piece all the way in.

  • Great Headset, missing minor details
The headset works every well indoors, in which I would not need to carry my phone around with me, but I've found that outdoors, my music tends to skip, people have a difficult time hearing me and parts just get cut off unless I have my phone within 2 ft of the headset. As well, the ear loops just don't seem to get a snug fit. I also wish there was some way to clip the earpiece to a shirt or something to hold it while not in use. Other than this, its an amazing headset. I love to play music through this and the headset feels very comfortable and sturdy in your ear. I like my headset, and would recommend it to others....more info
  • Great item to have
Good and handy for those who loves music on the move and not sacrificing the sound quality. Very pleased with the product as a whole. Price is a bargain....more info
  • Not comfortable, not great sound
I use my Bluetooth for work every day, and so I did a lot of research when it came time to replace my 2-year-old Jabra after its battery died. I decided on Plantronics Voyager 855 but have not been at all happy with it. It does not feel secure in my ear, and the sound quality for those I am calling is demonstrably worse than on the Jabra. In all, it's very disappointing, especially as I had imagined a jump in quality over a 2-year-old product. ...more info
  • Not Comfortable.
Used this headset with a couple of blackberrys. The headset works alright for what it is. The sound quality is more than adequate for phone calls but is a little lacking for good music (I like my music to be heavy with bass and these small headsets can not be expected to cut it). The bluetooth pairing worked well with the blackberrys as well as windows XP (widcomm stack) and windows vista (native HP-Microsoft stack).

The reason I gave this 2 stars is that it is not comfortable at all. I tried using it with all the ear buds that it shipped with and non of them fit my ear perfectly, resulting in a loose and shaky feel. The over the ear band is too big for me too.

So though I liked the headset by itself it was not at all comfortable for me. I would recommend that anybody thinking about it try it out first and then get it depending on their comfort level....more info
  • Repeat Plantronics Customer
My Voyager 855 replaced an older model. I'm totally satisfied and will probably remain a Plantronics customer in the future. I really like the extending/slide mic piece. Easy "answer" or "hang up" control, and puts the mic where it should be. Very comfortable in and on the ear. Stereo features are just candy since I use my phone as a phone. [go figure] But my kids tried it and said the stereo 'buds' sounded great playing mp3's on their cell's. I also REALLY like that the Voyager uses the same charger plug as my LG Dare. No more need to carry two different car chargers for me. Speaking of charge, the Voyager has a feature that lets you check how much charge you still have on the headset. Mine has never gone dead in normal use, but it is a nice feature for people that can't afford to have a dropped call....more info
  • Not Like Any Other Bluetooth
Plantronics Voyager 855 Bluetooth Headset (Black)
This is probably the best bloutooth headset I've ever used. It is really nice to be able to switch between normal headset and headphones. Works great with all the phones and it really cool for use with skype. Music quality, of course, is not the best, compared to wired headphones, but IS great for this kind of device. Thank a lot for the service. Love it!...more info
  • The headset not for your head
I was not happy about this product. I gave it to my son and he hate it, too....more info

  • Good quality product...
I am quite happy with this product. I use it 5 days a week for about six hours a day. I am a splicer for the phone company, and I spend a lot of time underground and climbing phone poles. The bluetooth device is a great way to listen to music and answer/make calls. My phone has a built in MP3 player and I subscribe to mobile XM Radio. I listen to music all day long. On a full charge I get close to six hours out of the device. Obviously, at higher volumes the battery life is shorter. Expect 5 to 6 hours of constant use. Integration between phone and player is nice.
The fit is great. I use the earloop for security. I don't want the earpiece falling when I am 20-30 feet in the air. But it's not necessary. The ear bud seals in the ear nicely, you actually have to get used to the way it feels. It really reduces outside noise considerably, which could be a dangerous thing.
I wish it had more volume, but that has more to do with listening to music at high volume all my life. But the second (stereo) earbud capability more than makes up for what is missing with just one earbud. I have trouble dialing by voice with this device, unlike my old Motorola. But sound qualtiy is good. Those are the only issues I have with the 855. It is much better than my old Motorola H371 in almost every way. I am satisfied with this product, which I have used for about two months. ...more info

  • Best Plantronic Bluetooth
This is the best Plantronics Bluetooth I have. I also have the Voyager 510 that I purchased because of the reviews, but it is bulky and won't stay on my ear. This will let me listen to my music and is an in ear which infract the loop doesn't even touch my earlobe. I think the sound is great and less obvious than the Voyager 510. If you aren't a specialist in this topic, but would like to listen to music privatly, but be avail by phone, this is it!!...more info
  • Great Product, Great Price
I have tried five or six different blue tooth devices ranging in cost from $65 to $150. None of them were satisfactory. Many were hard to keep connected and/or hard for people to hear me on. This one works great. Also, the stereo works great. I can use it for music while around noisy equipment and hear great. This sells for over $140 at all the retail stores I could find it at. Great product. Great Price....more info
  • Pretty good, but not quite perfect
My favorite thing about these is their versatility. This isn't the best phone headset out there but it's pretty good. It also isn't the best bluetooth stereo headset out there, but again it's pretty good (for bluetooth stereo, anyway). It comes with one earhook that has the other earbud integrated into it as well as a couple of other different sized hooks without the extra earbud for use as a conventional phone headset. It paired just fine with my Blackberry Curve, though the range was a little disappointing at around 15 feet (this is rarely an issue in my ordinary usage). The music does occasionally cut out momentarily even with the phone in my pocket if I'm wearing alot of winter clothing, but not anywhere enough to kill my listening pleasure. If you want a truly hi fidelity experience, Bluetooth A2DP probably isn't the way to go, but for casual listening on my commute, it fits the bill just right. As for the headset capabilities, the volume is plenty loud enough. People on the other end say that the sound is a bit tinny, but perfectly legible (note that extending the boom mic is a must for good quality). ...more info
  • Not worth the price
i've been having the same problems with the headset as most of other people here.
    Con
    1) for an in-ear headphone it has non-existent base.
    2) i have upper model Nokia smart phone but still have the problem of headset cutting in and out when the phone is in my pocket. Only while playing music not calls.
    3) too expensive
    4) call quality ok not worth the price.

    Pro:
    1) really good battery life.
    2) can be usb charged from your computer
    3) stereo bluetooth.
    4) yes the answer call button is located in a bad spot for an in-ear headphone and when you press it the headphone jams deep in your ear. but you can also answer/end calls by simply sliding the mic portion in and out....more info
  • This Bluetooth headset is awesome!
This is the best wireless headset I've found. I run alot & this headset us great because the sound is excellent & there's no wires to get in your way. Excellent product!...more info
  • Sick product for the price!
I bought it and really wasn't able to use it right away as a stereo headset as I have a G1 and the new cupcake(1.5) upgrade wasn't out yet. Well it still isn't but I have since flashed my phone with the Dev mods done to enable A2DP. As far as this headset goes it is unbelievable as far as sound and quality for how much it is. The stereo on it is superb with mp3s and videos.

    Worth the money!...more info
  • Very good w/ cell phone, not PC
I've only had these headphones for a few days but that has been enough time to really put them through their paces.

With my cell phone (HTC/AT&T Tilt) the experience has been flawless. There were no issues pairing and the sound quality was really really good. The difference between a $30 wired headphone plugged in versus the Voyager is quite minimal.

I have worn the headset around the house and my office while my phone was plugged into the PC charging and syncing. That was a very good experience. I also tried the same while I cut the grass. That was a great experience as I usually have wires that get trapped, etc.

The ear buds themselves seem to make this product for me. If you do not like bud earphones you will hate this product. Being a big fan of bud earphones I find that these lock out even more noise than normal. (They passed the spouse/kids test) This was a bonus when I cut the grass. I didn't have to raise the volume very much to hear my music and block the sound of the mower.

My experience connecting to the MSI Starkey on my PC was not even near satisfactory. For some reason I hear the mic even when it should be muted. This didn't happen with my Plantronics 510 headset. That makes these virtually unusable with my PC -- or at least the experience is unpleasant enough that I would leave my headset disconnected most of the time.

Overall I am really pleased with the quality of the Voyager....more info
  • Lame
I got the headset and it functioned perfectly. What it didn't do was deliver ear comfort or sound quality. The main ear piece had reasonable sound... but the stereo part was too weak to really call this an effective stereo headset. Epic FAIL....more info
  • Unusable because won't stay in ear
After extensive researching, I picked out this headset as having all my desired features, especially being in-ear because I wear glasses. However, though I bought it in February of '08, I've never been able to use it because it won't stay in my ear. And the optional over-ear loop is not adjustable and is too far from my ear to loop over it. Due to other reviews, I researched Etymotics & ordered some of their ear gels, trying the extra small because all 4 kinds Plantronics included popped back out of my ear after 2-3 seconds. Finally the Etymotics arrived, but though they would stay in for about 5 seconds, they'd also pop out, making the headset unusable.

Of course, by the time I went through all these efforts, over a month had passed and it was too late to return the headset. So I've had the 855 for over 10 months and have never been able to use it. That makes it impossible for me to review any of the features. But I spent the money I'd saved for this purchase and can't afford to buy another headset. It's very discouraging and disappointing. I'd very much appreciate if anyone can give me suggestions about eargels I might buy that are even-smaller than Etymotics extra-smalls or just ones that conform (like foam) so they won't pop right back out. Thanks for any advice you can offer. And Happy New Year, everyone! ~Bonita...more info
  • Decent sound, too sensitive of a mic, starting to wear out...
I use it everyday to listen to music from my Motorola Q via bluetooth. Sound quality is pretty good, not great, but good enough for me, 7.5-8 out of a possible 10 for the sound. The battery lasts pretty long, but I did buy a charger to keep at work to charge when I get there, because I've had it die on me a few times in the past, which leaves me bored to death on my commute home. I have a pretty long commute (2hrs each way) so your mileage may vary.

For talking, it seems that the mic is super sensitive and seems to pick up a lot of background while I'm not talking directly into the mic. The mic extends, but my head is bigger than most, so i find it easier to just hold the mic to my mouth when talking. I'd say 6.5-7 for talking because it picks up so much background noise (not good when walking through NYC).

I've had this for a while now (under a year) and I'm starting to get static from the connection between the stereo earphone and the main unit. I'm going to try cleaning it with alcohol, but it may just be loose from the daily usage. Overall good product, but I'm a little bummed that it seems to be falling apart on me....more info
  • Stereo headset
The stereo headset is great. I can definitely hear much better when I am driving. And I like the idea you can use bluetooth in a mono or stereo setup. The down side of it is that it keeps on falling of my hear because the earpiece set is design in an angle. I had to take the bluetooth to a sunglasses store to have the ear piece hook adjusted. It was fine after that....more info
  • Music through bluetooth headset, I'm sold!
My Samsung SCH I760 easily links up with this device. This revolutionary headset has attributed to me setting aside my mp3 player. While the sound quality is good, but not great, the functionality to discreetly listen to music while on my break and being able to talk handsfree has easily made this bluetooth stereo headset a winner with me. ...more info
  • poor design
I (also like others here) could not get these to fit correctly on the electronics side since the extension for the ear gel points down at such a severe angle and the speaker tube seems overly large. Hard plastic seems to touch my ear canal even though it does not seem possible. Also the sound of the scratchy cloth covered cord rubbing against your collar is overpowering because of the in-ear gels.

The technology seems to be focused on voice rather than music. Even while holding the boom side against my ear to get a seal, the sound for music is horrible (relative to my Sony Ericsson HBH-DS980 Bluetooth Streaming Headset. It is very hollow and tinny sounding; not full like you expect for music. I was about to return the headset when I read a review mentioning the possibility of using Etymotic ear gels so I am considering keeping this headset as a phone call only set for the car. ...more info
  • Nice
This unit is great. Very clear. Long battery life. Be advised that it requires the source to have A2DP protocol, otherwise you can't use it for stereo. I bought this for my wifes G1, turns out that the G1 does not support the A2DP protocol. It is still great a great bluetooth headset....more info
  • Great headset, with a hefty price tag.
Plantronics is recognized as a leader in the headset market, and rightfully so. The Vogayer 855 is a quality product, with a premium build and features. But this all comes at a premium price, as well.

Here are the positive aspects of the headset:

+ Great voice quality, both incoming and outgoing.
+ Small footprint, classy design. Extremely lightweight. You wouldn't notice this hanging on your ear, if it wasn't for the noise isolating earpiece.
+ Plethora of accessories. Various ear tips, from silicone to foam. Quality carrying pouch.

    And now the cons:

    - The biggest reason I purchased this headset was for the stereo capabilities. Not knowing at the time, more than anything else, this feature is really a gimmick. To begin with, your pairing device must support the A2DP Bluetooth profile. This was no issue for me, since both my Nokia E51 and Anycom USB Bluetooth Adapter do. Now, listening to music through my phone worked flawlessly, yet the biggest issue here is the sound quality. Don't think for a second this stereo headset will replace your regular wired headphones, because the quality is nowhere near even the cheapest headphones you might own. I'm not sure if this is Bluetooth's fault as a technology or Plantronics', but your music will sound tinny, dull and uninspiring. You're better off listening on your phone's speaker--yes, it's really that bad. As for voice calls, sure, you can hear in both ears, but it's not stereo, so what's the point? Now, I also had in mind listening to stereo music on my computer. But I was unable to get this feature functioning at all, since Vista needed new Bluetooth drivers which demanded me to install SP1, and trying to set it up in Ubuntu Linux was an incredibly involved process, that I just haven't taken the time to perform to this day.

    - Price. I still think I wasted US$ 70 on this product, since the feature I was interested the most is faulty. I really believe the price is being pushed up simply because of the Plantronics brand name.

All in all, this is a superb headset with subpar stereo capabilities. I would hesitate purchasing another Plantronics product, and would need a lot of reassurance to what exactly I'm paying for....more info
