Customer Reviews:

  • As good as IHOP
With a good waffle/pancake mix this makes the perfect waffle. Once you know how much batter is enough and get your cooking time right- you get a waffle as good if not better than the ones at IHOP. Our favorites are chocolate chip with chocolate sauce and vanilla with fruit on top. This is our Sunday treat. Love the

  • There's A Reason This Gets So Many 5 Star Reviews -- It Makes GREAT Waffles
Nice, sturdy unit with a unique flip action. Rather than like most other rotating waffle makers that have the flip action suspended mid-air (sort of like a rotisserie) this unit flips 180 degrees over its base. This is a much simpler design and the unit seems much sturdier due to its simplicity. Why didn't anyone else think of this? Waffles are now foolproof, crispy outside/soft and fluffy inside. It is also easy to clean with a quick wipe out with a damp cloth or paper towel. In use, the unit is a bit bigger than I imagined (you will need to have enough room on either side of the base to 'flip' it); however, storage made easy and compact as it stands upright. I agree with other reviewers that the timer is a joke. I used it the first time and feel it is a waste of a battery. I'm using the timer on my stove (or microwave) instead. I'm giving it 5 stars for the waffles, not the timer.

3/7/09 UPDATE: After 1+ month I'm absolutely LOVING this thing. Other than the first time I used it, I don't even have to apply any nonstick oil/spray. In just 4 minutes waffles are evenly baked, light and fluffy inside and just right crisp on the outside....more info
  • Cheap plastic parts, and some of the finish was worn off when delivered.
It makes a good waffle. But as many others here have mentioned, you have to keep an eye on it as it does not shut off or beep when ready. The battery operated timer is very weird. The black finish was noticeably worn-off at several places on the product. I'm guessing that the battery cover will probably be the first to break off. And when we try to lock it in the vertical position for storage, it doesn't stay closed and looks unsightly. We use a rubberband to keep it closed. I'm thinking about returning it, but not sure if it's worth the trouble. You know, it's always a bit stressful with Amazon, having to wait up to 2 months to see the credit.

It is extremely flimsy and looks like it will break apart any minute, but it does make good waffles, and they slip out so easily with no mess. But again, very, very cheaply made. ...more info
  • Amazing!!!
An amazing waffle maker. Fast, delicious, mess-free, crusty outside, fluffy inside, evenly baked in 3.5 minutes. Cleans with a quick wipe. Stores as a slim and small piece. Will buy one more for summer apartment and recommend to everybody....more info
  • Half of the waffle was golden and half burnt
I was so hopeful about this since there were so many good reviews.
At 2 minutes, half of the waffle (2 of the 4 sections) were burnt. It says most waffles take 4 mins. I set the timer. You have to set the timer for how long to cook, it doesnt just tell you when its ready. My cheap regular waffle makers, the light goes off when its cooked. I tried 2 different batches of waffles, trying to figure it out. But part of the iron must get hotter. Doesnt cook evenly. Some of the lines of the waffle would b burned and others not. It might be defective but I dont like the timer so not worth trying another one. The timer runs off a battery, so when its unplugged the timer is still lit. Its not a clock or something you use everyday and need to waste keeping lit. It also seemed inconsistent on how to reset timer. ...more info
  • like this thing!
This is working smartly since first use! Will see how long it will last :)...more info
  • Completely satisfied
Previously I didn't know why some Belgian waffle machines are flip flop. Now I know. Never buy a machine you cannot flip.

The timer with a battery is weird but it does not bother me. I see some people complain about the timer not cutting the circuit when the time is off. It is ridiculous to discuss this because the machine cannot cool instantly even if you cut the circuit. So you must be there and take the waffle out. Believe me, timer is best when it does not interfere with the cooking....more info
  • Waffle Iron
LOVE this waffle iron. only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the timer is battery operated and the only way to power the timer off is to remove the battery. ...more info
  • I love this lil thing!
This is the perfect waffle maker for the average family that enjoys the occasional waffle. It takes up so little space and is easy to use. I have made everything from plain to macadamia chocolate chip waffles in it and all came out perfectly. It succeeds in the elusive texture that is vital in a good waffle: crisp outside but soft and fluffy inside. Yum! I have found that greasing prior to adding the batter is not even needed, they come out very easily (i usually add a little butter for flavor). My one complaint would be that the timer is basically useless, the time suggested in the manual would have burned my waffles and if it even gets splattered with a little water while cleaning it malfunctions for a while. I just wait until I can smell the waffle and there is a reduction in the steam coming out. Perfect! Can't beat the price either....more info
  • Mystery Timer Design Revealed!
We bought this waffle iron due to the good reviews. It seemed a bit strange that the timer had it's own separate battery, but we figured we could live with that quirk.

After the iron arrived, we eagerly unpacked it and started cooking waffles! What a disappointment! Every waffle of every recipe we tried was either burnt to a crisp or not cooked enough. Cooking for the recommended 4 minutes resulted in charcoal. Cooking for less than 2.5 minutes resulted in overdone on the outside, uncooked on the inside.

After giving up for the night, we regrouped in the morning for another try. After getting the same results with yet more recipes, we were just about to give up, when we had the idea to unplug the iron 1 minute after putting in the batter, and leaving it unplugged for the duration of cooking the waffle (total cook time: 3.5 minutes). The brilliance of the dual power design of the waffle iron immediately became apparent! We could unplug the iron, but the timer would keep on going, telling us when the waffle was done! Reusing the power cord plug as a temperature control device is a simple and elegant solution - I'm surprised it has not been adopted by other manufacturers.

Despite being in awe of this marvel of engineering, we decided to return it.

    UPDATE:

We decided to give this product another chance. When the new one arrived from Amazon, we had the same results. We returned it and purchased instead an UNO belgian waffle maker - work's like a charm.

  • Beautiful Waffles, but timer was a bust...
I absolutely love belgian waffles, but at nearly $10 a pop for IHOP, they had become a bit of a delicasy. So off I go on a quest to find the perfect belgian waffle maker... On a budget of course!!! After much tedious research and hours of internet sleuthing, I came across this baby. Not only were the reviews great, but it was only $35 bucks and shipping was free. Of course I ordered it. It arrived fairly quickly and it was time to put it to the test. While I awaited its arrival, I found a great belgian waffle recipe and waited. I prepared the batter with precision and plugged it in, and popped the battery into the timer (inconvenient to say the least). Fired it up and set the timer for 4 minutes as instructed in the manual. After 2 minutes I flipped it and started the countdown. The waffles were PERFECT. Crisp on the outside thick and fluffy, warm and delicious on the inside. That one was for my daughter, so imagine my eagerness to finish my own. I poured the batter in and went to set the timer, but couldn't read the numbers. WTF??? I thought maybe the iron had gotten to hot or the battery slipped or something, so I resulted to using my oven timer. After 2 minutes I flipped it and looked at the timer and it was not working at all. HOwever, again the waffle was PERFECT. Most delicious one I ever put in my mouth. Cooked to perfection. The following day I replaced the battery with a fresh one to see if that was the problem, but it was dead.

Here comes the dilemma. I am not disappointed enough to return it because it is Friday and guess what my baby has requested for breakfast Saturday morning... U got it Waffles. Just like the ones we had the other night. I will keep it, unless it dies completely and just use a clock or portable timer. Plus the upright storage is great and it is easy to clean. The only reason for the 4 star rating is the timer issue. It the timer had died after maybe 5 uses, I would have given it five stars. Hope this was helpful sorry for the long drawn out story, but it got the point across....more info
  • Perfect waffles everytime!
I recently received the Presto 03510 FlipSide Belgian Waffle Maker as a birthday gift. Excited to make Belgian Waffles I had it cleaned and ready to go the following Saturday morning.

As recommended I wiped it down with some oil, plugged it in and waited for it to heat up until ready as indicated on the display. Once ready I poured in just over 1 cup of batter, closed the maker and flipped it over. (This makes sure it coats both sides of the iron evenly) I then set the timer to 3 1/2 minutes and waited. As soon as the timer went off I opened up and voila! Beautiful golden brown Belgian waffles that didn't stick.

Clean up was easy and I REALLY like that it stores upright, it's a space saver I can appreciate. It does require 1 AAA battery for the timer, but it is included. I had looked at many waffle makers out there in every price range, but this has got to be the best value for your money.

*I would also like to recommend the following waffle mix that I received with this gift. Golden Malted Pancake & Waffle Flour, Original, 33-Ounce Cans (Pack of 3) Although it took a bit more time to make than some basic mixes because you have to add egg, water and melted butter, it was worth the extra effort! (And my family agrees)...more info
  • Waffle Iron
I absolutely LOVE IT! It is a bit tricky to clean. But we use it almost everyday. Great product for the price! Mine did come with a dent in it....more info
  • Great Simple Belgian Waffles
I recieved this wafflemaker as a gift and I think it is a great kitchen appliance. The waffles cook evenly and quickly. The timer is a nice feature, though it would be nice if it ran off of the electrical power rather than a battery. The flipping feature allows the waffles to cook more like a industrial machine, while only taking up the space of a household waffle maker. I would recommend if you are looking for an average priced, simple to use waffle iron....more info
  • Best. Waffles. Ever.
I looked around at a lot of waffle makers before settling on this one. It's effective, efficient, easy to use and makes absolutely perfect waffles every time. Couldn't possibly be happier with it!...more info
  • Good waffle maker for the money
Waffle maker is consistent in making good waffles with even done-ness through-out. The small footprint is a bonus along with the fact that you can flip the waffle batter during the cook cycle to ensure even batter distribution. I would buy this again and am happy with the purchase....more info
  • Wonderful Belgian Waffles
I orginally purchased an expensive waffle iron from Wms Sonoma. We never have been pleased with the waffles. I had heard that the flip waffle irons work much better so I decided to take a chance on the Presto. The price was reasonable and the waffles come out just like the ones you get in restaurants. Would reduce the cook time since it doesn't seem to take as long as directed. Recommend highly if you love waffles!...more info
  • Perfect waffle every time
1/09 Update: Forgot to mention the upright lock feature. This is not great. It does not stay in the lock position. When it dis-engages the machine falls left or right. I depend on it accordingly, and still love my Presto!

I shopped til I dropped and decided on this Presto. It's perfect in every way. Stores in upright position so it's very space efficient.
I PAM [spray] each time I use, and wipe with paper towel to clean.
This puppy makes big waffles! Plan on 2-3 waffles per recipe.

  • A good little waffler.
This is a bare necessities type unit. The griddle temperature is not adustable so doneness is accomplished by guessing the right amount to time to leave the waffle in. At about 4 minutes it puts this iron at about equal to a medium setting on our old irons. The flipping action is ingenious in it's simplicity and results in evenly distributed waffle. The little device that is suppose to hold the two halves together for storage is pretty weak but with the addition of a rubber band around the handles it works fine. The unit heats up quickly and is ready to make waffles before you get the batter done....more info

  • Worked for a while
I initially liked the Presto FlipSide waffle maker. I used it every weekend for the past 4 months or so. This morning it worked fine for the first waffle, then it died. No light, no heating. I let it cool off and tried again, and nothing. I would expect a waffle iron to last at least a couple of years!...more info
  • Best waffle maker for under $100
Fluffy, crispy, scrumptious. How else can you describe a waffle of perfection. All that remains is to run out and purchase whip cream and strawberries!

This waffle maker is worth every penny. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to eat too many waffles. I used Hungry Jack packages of waffle mix and followed the directions on the box. 1 heaping cup of waffle mix results in the perfect waffle anything less and you get a partial waffle.

Beware of the recommended cooking times. With prepackaged waffle mixes 3.5 to 4 minutes seems to be too long. 3 minutes is just about right, but play with the cooking times to see what works for you.

Each waffle comes out crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Brings me back to my childhood Saturday mornings. Don't forget to buy REAL mapple syrup!

Some reviewers have complained that the two plates do not fit together tightly, but I have not run into this problem. Just make sure to brush both sides with oil before the first use and expect a burning smell the first time you turn it on. This smell only lasts a few minutes your first time using the product.

Highly recommended by a waffle connoisseur....more info
