- Great service
I received my gps receiver in a very shot time.
The gps reciever is very accurate and best of all it worked straight out of the box with the added driver software. My Iguidence had no compatability problems with the bu-353. Great product and great seller too. ...more info
- No Problem with Vista
My previous laptop's GPS receiver did not work with my new Vista laptop, and I had some trouble finding adequate documentation on some receivers concerning compatibility with Vista. Happy to report that this unit works perfectly with the Vista driver downloaded from the manufacturer's site. Plus, it gets better reception than my old one -- it works inside the house where the old one did not....more info
- Nice product, but it does NOT work with Vista.
This unit locked on really quick and worked great for a few minutes and then blue screened my laptop. Same problem over and over. Tried everything, it does not work with Vista....more info
- Excellent GPS unit
purchased this GPS unit because of the fast satellite acquire times and great GPS lock. I was not disappointed. This unit replaces my DeLorme Earthmate which was good, but this unit is unreal. I set up a route from inside my house and got the GPS lock in a couple seconds! This is so much faster than the DeLorme and I could never have done it in the house. Usually it always takes 1 to 2 minutes to get the GPS lock with the DeLorme and that's outside in the driveway. Talk about keeping a lock, this unit never dropped the 3D signal once on a very hilly, high foliage and rural area on the 125 mile trip. The DeLorme unit always dropped the 3D signal at least 5 times over the same route. The DeLorme unit is very good, but this one is fantastic! This GPS unit is always locked onto at least 8 to 10 satellites. This unit is also much more accurate, especially estimating the time to the next turn. It seems to have very accurate vechile speed determination. The DeLorme was always way off by 30 or more seconds. This unit computes the time to within a second. I do like the DeLorme software and if you purchase this GPS unit you will be very happy. Now I'll have to try it in the downtown area....more info
- Great little GPS and very rugged
I already have about 6 handheld GPS's, all which would have worked for me (but required more wires & space in my backpack) but I bought this one for convenience to go with my new Eee PC and Microsoft Streets. As other reviewers reported, it is amazingly good at getting a signal. When I first tried it, it actually got a signal INSIDE my hotel room (I am normally standing out in the parking lot with my GPS muttering 'acquire, acquire'.
It is also very well built... solid feeling, etc. Not cheaply made. Worth a little extra, IMHO.
It also works fine with all my marine navigation programs like Maxsea, The Capn, Nobeltec, etc. Very nice backup unit in a very small package....more info
- Excellent GPS Unit
Been using this for a couple of months now in my car. The unit as never had any trouble acquiring a signal and does so in a few seconds. Nothing bad to say about it in terms of performance (though I haven't had the heart to test its WaterProof feature yet!).
The only issue I seem to have is that Microsoft Streets and Trips 2009 sometime has trouble communicating with the device. This usually happens if I put my laptop into sleep mode without shutting off the GPS. A quick log off and log back on seems to fix the issue. For reference I'm using a Lenovo x61 Tablet with Windows Vista....more info
- Great performance
Worked perfectly right out of the box. Picked up multiple satellites whether inside a building or in the car. With Map Point or other mapping software, you're good to go. Sometimes you have to manually select a COM port, but otherwise it's as simple and quick....more info
- no real mac software options available
after reading tons about usb gps for months, i got this little device.
seems to pick up ok with the test software. but is absolutely useless as a gps receiver for the mac. I have windows software to run it, but that sucks because then I'm on windows. do yourself a favor and get a real gps device instead of any of these silly usb gps receivers....more info
- Great for CarPC
Recently replaced GPS received with this unit for my CarPC and this is the first time I have ever seen a 12 satellite lock! It works very well with both iGuidance and Garmin Mobile PC, very fast lock and can even lock 3-4 satellites inside the garage....more info
- Poor Quality
Loose connector. Would disconnect while connected to my laptop while driving. I would hit a bump and it would disconnect. I tried it on my desktop and just barely moving the device would make it disconnect. The seller I bought it from would not replace it. Better to look elsewhere for a gps for your laptop....more info
- Vista and MapPoint 2006
This unit worked flawlessly w/ my Dell 1525 laptop, Vista and MapPoint 2006.
I picked this up for a trip from Atlanta to Wisconsin in a 24ft moving truck. I had the gps unit sitting on the dash w/ the laptop on the seat and it never dropped signal or had any problems even tho I was always facing north and had the tall box of the truck and roof of the cab in the 'line of sight' to the satellites.
The only 'gotcha' was make sure you run the included GPSInfo program as administrator. Initially when I ran gpsinfo to test the gps I was not running as admin and the program would not detect the gps....more info
Product has great reception. Was able to find multiple satellites from indoors while setting up. Small unit, long cable. Overall very impressed. ...more info
- This GPS receiver is awsome!
I use this receiver in my car with a Sammy UMPC. There's lots of nav software to choose from and this piece of hardware works great with the few that I tried. iNav is my current choice. This unit holds up great in the high temperatures that my dashboard reaches. On the way to lake Powell I had 11 satellites locked. Driving east through Glenwood Canyon on I-70, I lost signal only a couple times and it was quickly regained seconds later. If you are reading this review, just commit and buy this unit now. You will not be sorry. Also, this was my first experience with hardware and software of this type [GPS]. I don't think it could have been easier. Let me save you some time though by letting you know that M$ Streets and Trips is absolutely worthless and is a total waste of time, effort and money. I don't hate M$. It's just that their gps software really lacks.
EDIT: This unit is still working EXCELLENT. I now send it's incoming data to iNAV and Google Earth in realtime using a software GPS Gate....more info
- Great simple product
This is to the point a great gps device. I use it with my EeePC running Ubuntu. The unit gets a lock in just a few seconds. The magnet with rubber pad works great on many surfaces. Worth every penny....more info
- Great little receiver
Good quality device. Fast shipping. No hint of the problem one reviewer had with loss of signal and erroneous location reports - this was specifically tested. Very good sensitivity. Works well with MS Streets & Trips 2009 and I suspect will work well with any NMEA compliant software....more info
- The perfect solution
Super easy setup!! I was looking for a GPS receiver to use with Microsoft Streets and Trips. This device is that perfect companion. With a regular GPS device you can't plan custom trips. The combination of a receiver and a laptop running mapping software allows me to plan (and save) custom routes....more info
- GPS for laptop
This Plug in GPS receiver works great. It had satellite lock and map location within 30 seconds....more info
- Works as it should.
I've used this for a little over a month now with no problems. If I had to come up with anything negative to say about it, I guess it would be the plastic USB cord suction cup that is supposed to adhere it to the windshield. The clip for the cord is too wide for the cord which allows the cord to fall out. I've driven rigorously without the suction cup clip and the gps never falls off of the dash. No problems so far....more info
- It works well with marine navigator software!
I have been using this with my marine navigator software and I am a very pleased.
The shipment arrived as was promised and it has been working well from day one and if you are planning to purchase this great little, inexpensive gadget to use it with your navigation software I suggest strongly first check with the software vendor's website just to make sure their software and the antenna are compatible.
- Does what it's supposed to.
I purchased several of these units to track a small fleet and they work quickly and reliably under a variety of circumstances. I am extremely pleased....more info
- Couldn't Get Any Better
With the current technology that is! I like this much better than my previous receiver. Most of the dead spots with my last one, ended up coming up with this one. Not sure if the waterproof part works, although I'm sure it does because the reception is awesome!...more info
- great item
Installs easily, locks on fast and stays that way. Great little reciever! I am using it with Micrsoft Streets and Trips 2009....more info
Absolutely fantastic! It exceeded my expectations. It's solidly built (which was one of my concerns, given the cheap price), extremely easy to install, and very, very fast and accurate.
I almost went with a more expensive model, just because I couldn't believe that such a cheap GPS could possibly work as well as advertised. I honestly expected a cheaply made GPS... but I was very pleasantly surprised!
Just fantastic. If you're looking for a GPS receiver to use with a product such as Microsoft's Streets and Trips, or GRLevel 3 radar, or some other similar GPS compatible software, then look no further!...more info
- Nice simple GPS for development
I purchased this GPS receiver to assist in a GPS driven project. It was very reliable and easy to configure. Like most NMEA compliant receivers it comes with a virtual COM port driver to make communication very easy from any programming language with a serial addressing library (Python and PySerial were great).
I did not use it with commercial software but I foresee no issues. ...more info
- Can't beat the price and quality
Great item! Must have! I got a fix from at least 6 satelites in under a minute. Extemely accurate even with only 4 sats. Works with Streets and Trips 2006, iGuidance, Street Atlas, and after some tweaking Nroute too! :D I stongly recommend this product, even if you don't travel much, this can get you out of a jam in under 2 seconds flat. Time is money, and this gps will save you a lot of both....more info
- Great product & great price.
This product worked just as described in the product specification. It took a second to install and it worked great with Microsoft Mappoint 2006. It only took a couple of second to receive the GPS signal and the rest is easy. I didn't have to put the receiver on the roof of my car, it picked up the signal wherever you are, even inside my home I still got the signal. This product is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who own a laptop. I had no problem installing it on windows XP. You simply plug the device, put the CD driver on and "Voila", it's done. Get yourself one, it is well worth it....more info
Why will you wait for satellites to be found when you can have this antenna?.
I was shoked when i connected it on my Vista Ultimate 64 Bits. I was afraid on the x64 drivers and that thing but it was just perfect (Plug & Sail). I didn't knew anything about GlobalSat but now i'm kind of lovin' it.! I'll use it on my laptop as a gps for Maptech Chart View and it's stunning how this little thing works. Testet inside my home and it showed me where i was. Tested latter inside my boat and the same thing. Works better than garmin's 100's $$ gps antennas.
I recommend this product to everyone.!...more info
