Customer Reviews:

  • Install does not require non-standard holes in the door
The other reviews all sound about right to me, i.e. this product is great! I love it! I just wanted to point out that when I was considering buying it I almost didn't because I rent and I didn't want to put two screw holes in my (landlord's) door. In the photo, there are two screws clearly visible in weird positions. Turns out that they are machine screws that go into a back plate held in place entirely by the normal type of screws that hold door locks together. So no worries about that. Also note that the screws are on the inside as is the battery. You don't want some tweaker to take apart your door lock to steal the 9V battery (included btw) and this lock prevents that.
You can install this lock in 15 minutes pretty easily and put it back to the way it was when you move out. I'm looking forward to taking this lock with me where ever I live!...more info
  • Excellent lock eliminates need for keys and improves access control
I am buying a second lock for the door between my garage and my house. With this lock you no longer have to carry house keys and can't lock yourself out of the house (a frequent problem for one member of our household). You can program in a code anytime you might need to leave a key for someone and then delete it when it is no longer needed. And when you leave a single button allows the knob to engage and lets you lock the door. It couldn't be easier to use, or program, or install. I often find myself a bit irritated by the occasional poor design feature in otherwise good products, but I haven't found even a small irritant with this deadbolt. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to eliminate a key from the lives....more info
  • Go for it...if you need a keyless entry
We did a little bit of research before buying this keyless pad for our new home. I am glad we purchased it. Its very easy to setup. Me and my husband were able to do it in less than 15 mins. Even the locking is very easy now. You need not search for keys. Great!!!...more info
  • Great Product
I recently set out to replace the dead bolt on my front door. I like the idea of having keyless entry. first went with the Kwikset version of this product thinking it would be cool to have a deadbolt that will automatically lock. Unfortunately this mechanism doesnt work well unless the door is perfectly flush with the door frame. This is rare since most doors have some weather lining around the frame, requiring the user to push/pull the door slightly to lock the dead bolt. Additionally the Kwikset was partially made of plastic and didn't have a solid feel. So I purchased the Schlage deadbolt. I was impressed with the solid feel of the set, it is completely metal, no plastic. I did make the mistake of not measuring the hole in my door, so I had to call a lock smith to widen the hole (I'm sure I could have done this but I'm lazy). The dead bolt was easy to install, and works really well. It requires a 9V battery which is included. I like the fact that it is a manual lock, perhaps the battery will last longer this way. All in all, I am happy with this choice and will likely stick with Schlage products. The price on Amazon is hard to beat....more info
  • Should have gotten one long ago.
I selected this version of the keypad lock because it did not use a little electric motor to move the bolt. I felt that that motor might wear out or get effected by weather (it gets COLD in northern Illinois). The Schlage uses the keypad to engage a manual turned hand key, similar to the way you lock a deadbolt inside. This hand turned method is much better than the battery powered motor in my case because the door has a soft weather stripping. The door must be pulled to compress the weatherstrip before the bolt will slide into place.

A little bonus, the keypad lights up.

Installation was fine, but then again I enjoy that type of thing. It came already programmed with two codes and I did not bother to change them or add others. Very sturdy materials, easy to use, simple to operate and looks like it will last. Of the similar options this has all the features I wanted.

  • Mostly good. A few things that make you go Hmmm.
Schlage got it right with the concept of an electronic lock that requires you to physically twist the knob. Our previous electronic door lock would frequently stick when the batteries were low or the batteries would pop out of their holder, if the door was accidentally slammed shut and make the door lock inoperable. This unit uses a 9 V battery that stays securely in place and is only responsible for the electronic signal that allows you to manually unlock the door. This way the battery lasts a lot longer as well.
I do have issue with the layout of the numbers. I think they are awkwardly placed depending on the code you choose. An standard 3x3 numeric type setup would have been better. Also it appears you must punch in your code to lock the door. I would think a single button lock feature would be more convenient. Perhaps I need to read the instructions more carefully....more info
