If this isn't the phone Navy SEALs use, it should be. Not only is the G'zOne waterproof, it can remain underwater for a full-30 minutes, and still maintain all of its functionality. That means if you haven't drowned after 30 minutes underwater, you can use the phone's built-in GPS feature and flashlight to find out just how lost you really are.
Ruggedized to military standards, this super-tough clamshell is not only waterproof, it's shock resistant, and dust resistant, too. Non-tough guy features include a 2-megapixel camera, EV-DO high-speed data capabilities, a QVGA display, a speakerphone, a built-in mobile Web 2.0 browser, and more.
Super rugged, super powerful. This phone is made for a rough and tumble life that's also fully connected. See the phone in 3-D (requires Flash).
The G'zOne features a ruggedized clamshell design with a large 240 x 320 color display with support for a whopping 65,000 colors--perfect for watching V Cast content. The outside of the clamshell features a supplementary monochrome LCD screen that can display incoming call information, battery life, signal strength, current date and time, stopwatch functions, and more. The protected camera lens and flash reside on the front cover, just above the external display, while up/down volume controls and a camera control button are on the right side of the phone. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad. The G'zOne also features a flashlight, which is housed on the back of the phone, meanwhile, a unique carrying clip is built into the top of the clamshell.
The G'zOne's 31 MB of built in memory is more than enough to support up to 500 entries in the phone's address book. Meanwhile, a voice dialing feature makes calling friends and associates as easy as saying their names, while the built-in speakerphone allows you to talk handsfree. The phone also comes with built-in polyphonic ringtones and a vibrating alert. More ringtones can be downloaded via Verizon's Get It Now service. Ringtones can be assigned to specific callers so you don't have to look at the phone to know who's calling, or you can match pictures with callers to identify them. Lastly, the G'zOne's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911.

Predictive text entry technology, which makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.
Getting on the Internet anywhere is easy with the G'zOne. Use the G'zOne's built in Web browser and Verizon's Mobile Web package to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content. - The best phone ever
This phone is hte best thing that i have ever had, it can not break. There is nothing i would take back abotu this phoen because it is every thing i need. Every summer i go through about 3 phones to the water that i sail in every day. I spilled milk on it and washed it off in my sink and used soap and water. This phone was built for me!!!! i love it so much!!!!...more info
- Tough, Well Featured, and Practical
I have the tendency to break my phones quite easily. I've gone through 5 different phones in the past 2 years just from dropping them and putting them through abuse. So when it was to Renew my contract I decided to skip the fancy stuff and go for the toughest phone on the planet. And THIS one is it. It's huge, I call it the TANK, but it's tough as a tank. Within 30minutes of getting the phone I decided to give it some test runs. So I threw it across the floor, dunked it in the pool, ran through water, let my dog chew on it, and even took it snowboarding with me. Other than a few surface scratches the phone has held up awesomely.
I personally think the phone looks really cool, but I often get a lot of curious looks from people asking me how old my phone is because it's huge, but they are always amazed when I tell them it's a shock resistant and water proof phone. If you want the will put up with whatever you can dish out within reason, then get this one. If you want a lot of features, get an iPhone and then cry when you realized you broke it in the first 3 months. ...more info
- Feels like a real phone...
I really like this phone and I have had it about a week. The only issue I have had so far is that the display screen is freezing up on me today. I can receive calls but none of the buttons on the keypad work and I can't get into any menus or anything.
Anybody else have this?...more info
- greatest rugged phone ever for consumers!!!
i am a contractor. i work in rugged conditions each day, and this phone has been dropped 35' in the air and still works. it's been wet several times. a normal phone would only last me maybe 6-8 months. I have had this one almost 3 years in a row and it's never failed me. even in temps negative 10 or lower it still turns on and takes picture and makes calls. I wish it had bluetooth, but i'm ok without it. I am trying to find a new one for one this one dies. I have heard that the new boulder isn't as tough as this original. I wish verizon didn't feel the need to change phones every few months with new ones. this one is the original and the BEST in my opinion out of the rugged phones out there. HEY VERIZON, bring this phone back and it will outsell all the others for contractors or people who need a very rugged phone....more info
- A phone built like a TRUCK
Yep, it's big, it's ugly, and you can't kill it! Like some others here, I am also a firefighter, and I ride horses. The phone I had before this got turned in 5 times on warranty in six months...apparently you were not supposed to actually USE that one. After sending Verizon a three page letter on why they were missing a huge market share by only having phones built for desk jockeys, this was their answer. GOOD answer!!
I have dropped it running for the truck, sent it skittering 45 feet over concrete, covered it in mud and ashes, forgot it in the pocket of my turnout gear during a structure fire, and once accidentally left it in a snowbank for two hours. Now THAT'S a phone!!
I love the size - I'm of a firm belief that you should not mistake your phone for a chiclet. I love the volume - it's stand next to a running diesel, wake you from a dead sleep, wake the dead in the next county when you need an alarm clock loud!!
Unlike others here I have managed to scar the finish...(what can I say, I'm talented) but nothing that causes the phone to be unusable. I don't really care if it's pretty. The front bezel protected the window beautifully...it's still readable. This phone is designed to be used and abused. Perfect for people who work and play hard, and want a phone - not a pea sized laptop. Verizon service also insures that you have bars in some of the weirdest places!...more info
- Functional Phone
A cellphone for an active blue-collar guy like me must be, first and foremost, functional. It can't be fragile or too small. I was initially excited to hear about the features of the G'zOne and its practicality. However, I'm disappointed in the phone's multi-functional navigational keys and alphanumeric keypad. The buttons should be more pronounced or raised to accomodate the thicker fingertips of a man's hand. It has been a nuisance hitting the wrong button each time. In addition, I prefer a phone that has a 24-hour digital clock as opposed to a AM/PM one.
- buy it
I've owned this phone for 2 months now--it replaced my Moto E815 which recently broke. I'm very pleased with the TypeV. Signal strength is similar if not better than E815 US-wide (I travel weekly for work) which is excellent. If you can find one at your local Verizon store, the cost will likely be a lot less. Mine was zero. Yes, it is really waterproof, drop proof, and dust proof (I just wash it off). If you drive a Jeep, this phone is a perfect match. The only complaint I have is battery life. I do seem to have to charge it nearly daily if it is in frequent use. And the low battery warning is like a cliff--one minute you are talking. Next second the phone has shut off. But I'll take the lower battery life on a phone which excels at being just that--a rugged phone which you can take anywhere and not panic you'll break it. ...more info
- Not a mil spec phone
First let me tell you that I am an engineer that looks at detail and have worked with mil spec requirements for a long time. I got this phone after I read the Consumers Report recommendation. It was also reported to be able to take abuse and there were sites on the web that demonstrated survival from abuse. I have two big complaints. 1) The holster just never seemed to release the phone correctly after it is clipped to my belt. I believe the looped antenna end was to disengage first when coming out of the holster, but this was a difficult operation and resulted in releasing from the other end. Over time this apparently wore the ends of the clamp causing the phone to be less secure in the holster. After about a year the phone is now released at the wrong times. Good thing it is water proof because I expect it to go in the crapper one of these days; it just made two attempts to hit the urinal (yes I am a male). 2) When the phone hits the ground the battery flies out >50% of the time. Didn't see that happen in the video!
The good is the "flashlight" feature where the LED flash can stay on and be used as a flashlight. This really comes in handy at times. Overall I don't recommend the phone because it does not take a drop very well and the holster is poorly designed....more info
- One Hard A** Phone!
I purchased the Gzone back in June. Happened to be talking to two friends the other day, one's a police officer, the other, a firefighter.
Joe, the firefighter, told us a story about the Gzone. On a recent call, he and his Fire Chief entered a burning bldg. to rescue a young boy and fight the fire. After exiting, Joe later noticed that his cell phone, (your average unit), was trashed due to the extreme heat; but his Captain's Gzone, Good-To-Go! Austin, the Officer, can't wait to upgrade! Officers I work with at the prison love the thing and are looking forward to upgrading as well.
This is one tough unit! I've found my cell phone for life!
- No Other Phone Even Compare...
I was in the market for looking for new phones for my boyfriend and I. And, after looking at the description for the Verizon G'zOne, I thought I would give this phone a shot. I dedided on this phone, because my boyfriend has broken every single phone that he is previously owned. I've been using this phone for several months, and I have to say that it is the best phone that I've every owned. One of the reason that I really like the phone is because of how big the screen & buttons are and how comfortable it is to hold. After using this phone, it makes other phones look like toy phones that children play with for fun. I look at other peoples' phones and they seem absolutely tiny compared to mine. My boyfriend was thrilled with this phone and immediately started testing its capabilities by accidently dropping it everywhere. Not a scratch in sight on his phone. If we were talking about cars, it would be the Hummer of all phones. But, seriously, his friends really liked the phone as well. One of his friends goes hiking a lot and commented on how a phone like his would really be useful in the great outdoors. His grandfather liked the phone because of how the buttons are a good size and not tiny like other phones. I know that there is an upgrade to this phone, but I don't know how a phone like this could get any better. I might to stick to this model the next time we need to renew our contract. Well, anyhow, this is really a great phone and would make a great gift for dads....more info
- Good, solid phone
Well, I just got this phone today and have gone through just about everything, made some calls, sent some texts and it seems like a very sturdy phone (which it's supposed to be). I should preface by saying I have verizon service, so where I am the signal strength is great. The call quality is good, I like the displays--Menus are easy to navigate and are the same as on my past phone, the Razor. It is a larger phone, but honestly not too much larger than most clamshell designs. What makes it appear bigger are the antenna sticking out and the protective guard. I don't care so much about size, I just wanted a nice, functional, durable phone and that's what I got. No bluetooth, but I don't need that anyways. Not many ringtones, wallpapers, but really don't care. Camera seems fine, with flash but I don't take many pictures with my phone. Overall, just a meat and potatoes type phone for somebody who wants great functionality and durability....more info
- No lifejacket needed here!!!
OK like other reviewers, I really don't care what the phone looks like or if it has a gazillion features, it just needs to WORK. I am a firefighter (water) and own a swimming pool service company as a side business. (Lots of water) I was missing my customers calls, due to the fact that my last couple of phones went swimming. Of course water and electronics don't mix. Leaving the phone in the truck just was not working. I was still missing calls. Now I can carry the phone on the job and not worry about getting it wet or dropping it on the concrete deck. (Most phones don't bounce well, either) Overall I am pleased with the phone, it is a little heavy, and somewhat bigger than most. The display area is great, even out in the bright sun, I can still see who is calling. I have a Casio divers watch that I bought in 1985. I have replaced the battery twice, if this phone lasts half that long then I will be well pleased. ...more info
- Strongest phone ever, if you want simply and actually working this is it
I've been pushing the limits on mine (I know I shouldn't but its just too tempting). It's survived many swims in the pool (down to 12') kayaking, rock climbing, a game of catch between our third story balcony and the parking lot (we don't always catch) being spiked onto a downtown sidewalk (fun to watch others look over) my dog playing with it, and even an accidental dropping out of my pocket while riding my motorcycle at about 45 mph. I don't really care about bluetooth or music so this is simply fantastic. I wish it did have analog for some country spots but oh well...more info
- Buttons on the side create - what were they thinking?
I like this phone for durability BUT I have yet to take this phone out (or put it back) in the hip pouch without pushing the buttons on the side. Now I'm broadcasting b/c I hit the speaker button. Then putting it away or taking it out I hit the buttons a few more times and I turn the ringer off/down/mute whatever and now I miss calls. I have yet to pick up this phone without screwing up settings - The buttons on the side S#@K - what were they thinking - didn't they test button placement b4 production? The store rep said - oh, why don't you just lock yourself out so you can not make changes - well great now I have to unlock the friggin phone b4 I can answer the call or make one - Now I know why the called it the Geez phone - I scream Geez-ous every time I have to use it!...more info
- Highly recommended
This is an excellent piece of equipment. Among other things, I've lost this phone in the hot tub for several minutes on two different occasions, dropped it, and thrown it in the pool and left it there for an extended amount of time. I've only had it for 2 months but no problems yet, the phone works perfectly no matter what I try to do to it. If you don't mind the aesthetics, this phone is highly recommended. One less thing to worry about....more info
- Great Phone, I love it.
The only drawback to this phone is, it doesnt have an mp3 player. But if I wanted to play mp3's, I wouldve bought an ipod. It has a great camera thats 2MP, and the pics are nice and clear with great picture quality. The phone is sturdy and waterproof. It also has a nice and loud speakerphone. Im going to be sticking with casio and their g'z type phone from now on....more info
- G'Zone is an awesome cellphone
I bought this phone because I have a 11 month old boy who loves to throw things in the tub. I had a Treo 600 and what a piece of junk that was, it was great being a palm, but was not great as a phone. The second I made a call with the G'zOne, it was clear as talking to someone right next to me. I am able to get great signal throughout my house and even at work. The phone has been scratched, but that was my son standing on it as he was walking down the driveway, but the damage was very minimal. I have dropped it many times now and this one has put up with all the abuse me and son have given it. The battery lasts quite a bit and despite the nasty comments from the verizon sales guy calling it a "brick", I love this phone and when it does die or gets lost, I will get this phone again....more info
